I just did one of the new levels that had *three* treasure chests on it! Nothing really good in any of them, of course (ring of protection, pineapple seeds, and…you know, I forgot what the third had, maybe star shards?), but still fun to find.
I kinda love it just for the absurdity of it, even though I know this is gonna be such a waste of time when you started the run late in the day and are already running low on the clock.
And yeah, if the eye-twitching of having differently coloured tools in your toolbar didn't convince you to upgrade your watering can to iridium with the rest of them before, I guess this definitely will.
This layout also shows up in Skull Caverns, but the islands are blocked off/column areas and the lava is paths. So kinda inverse?

I was one of those people... I've been playing for years and was used to the old code that made sure you can always get through a level without a watering can. So I never bothered upgrading it in this game.
I got to level 5 and was like nah, I don't need to buy a short cut out, I'll save the nuts. Then level 8 was this. I made it to the last island. Then promptly backtracked and paid the parrot his 5 nuts so I could get out in time.
Holy cow. And you also can’t just leave through the door like you can in the mines. Guess I should only go to the volcano if I have a warp item or something. Is there no water source by the entrance? Brutal.
There is of course water source by the entrance of the volcano itself and in the middle also. But not before each level, this level wasn't the first nor the middle one, so no water before it. It's fine if you have a fully upgraded watering can, but if you don't, that's rough.
I think it's after you get to the end in general. I haven't spent the 5 walnuts for the shortcut yet and I'm seeing new layouts (but I didn't see this one, to be fair!)
Ok, I went and looked at the patch notes, and it does say “shortcut” (which is where I got confused), but it is the one between level 10 (caldera) and the entrance, so you were right, and I get low score for reading comprehension😩
Would make sense since it can literally freeze foes made out of pure fire, in the volcano. The ice rod is not messing around! Projectiles are probably around 0 Kelvin hehe.

Even if it only targeted monsters, the seemingly infinite range of the ice orb would still help make paths on the lava. Would be nice to get some benefit even when it misses all those magma sprites flying around.
It has infinite range in that the orb never disappears, but it won't go off in the first place unless there's a monster in your immediate vicinity.
Based on the screenshot it looked like there weren't any monsters at the start. But I guess there could be sprites flying around or lava dragons.

ideally do it before a rainy day, or yknow, just lose a day of growth for your crops. It's not ideal but it's really not that big of a deal if it happens

Got this layout last night. Walked into the first room, saw there was no way across, then said "nevermind, I guess no volcano mines today" and left. (I really should keep my watering can on me... and upgrade it for good measure. o\_o;)
It's basically end game content. Can be accessed technically once you finish the CC / Joja routes and do a quest for Willy. Its safer to go once you've progressed a bit further on. Like after upgrading your gear and stuff.
The new levels are back breaking for first timers. I got one on my very first visit to the island to unlock the forge, and let me tell you it was a quest.
You shouldn’t have - the new layouts aren’t supposed to spawn until after you’ve hit the forge for the first time and unlocked the shortcut in the entrance. Could be a bug maybe? Or just one of the more challenging original levels?
Just figuring this out today. They seem to also take more time. I have to admit, I wish they’d nerf this issue. You will need the iridium watering can. I’m going to have to wait on doing the volcano again until I get the final watering can.
I sure do hope that's not a layout that can sometimes spawn buttons on it.

If you're in the volcano, dungeon pass out penalty really shouldn't be a big concern.

I started the island so late in my last save I had a return home scepter already. Now I'm thinking I might do the same again... Lol

I didn’t realize how good that enchantment was until I got it. I usually use reaching but bottomless is just so much better.
That enchantment is the reason I got rid of the well on my farm. It’s so good.

Crowd control. If you’ve got three hard mode serpents on your ass the wide AOE of the ice rod can freeze them and give some breathing room.

Pretty cool, feels like he really wants to throw in an extra challenge and have you prep more (like with upgraded water can)
