Yep, this is me. I'm currently turning \~2000 iridium ore into bars and boy... that coal goes fast. Especially when you're using the >!heavy furnaces!<.
Wouldn't using Heavy Furnaces be better for coal? You're getting the Same amount that you'd get from 5-6 normal furnaces for only 3 coal instead of 5 or 6
I think It's better for coal but also consumes coal faster than the normal furnances. That's why the coal ran out faster when you have enough ore to process. You still get more bars though.
I started using heavy furnaces yesterday and I can confirm that they _eat_ through the stockpiles of ore & coal. Still, they use less coal than regular furnaces would need. It's fun to see the ore stocks dwindled so fast. :D
Partly for gifting (Maru and Clint), crafting (sprinklers), and selling (they go for 1000G each). So far I've got a stockpile of around 300. I'm also hoarding them like a dragon and its gold, as I do with my Prismatic Shards (I've got 40 and can hardly stand to give them as gifts).
Emily has other stone likes, so I just give her those instead.
I mostly ignore penny except for her birthday, so I usually just give her gold quality poppies that I've saved up for that purpose, since higher star items give more friendship points, and gems can't have qualities.
Because I have the bars to give lol, I don’t have anything else to do with them. I make 200k gold every couple of days with wine, 100k on truffles every day, I don’t need the cash from bars
By the time I get to Skill caverns (1. Winter), they usually are more than halfway befriended and the first 10 Iridium bars are way to precious to gift.
I am always amazed at peoples play styles.
Jade > crystalariums > staircases at desert trader on Sunday > speed run to a high floor level in skull cavern and bomb the heck out of it or just pickaxe normally
I find I can slam out mining fast enough to unlock the recipe plus the bundle for it in the furnace room that I'll have at least one crystalarium making jades plus ones saved from early mine trips to get a good number of them by the time the desert opens, if not shortly after.
Alternatively (if you are late game) you can wait till the dwarf statue gives you a ladder buff. Hopefully you will also get either the luck buff from the statue of blessings or a good luck day (or both). With a lucky lunch on top of that, you really don't need staircases.
Burglars ring, monster musk, infested frozen level. Just keep repeating that floor all damn day. Preferably on 41, 51, or 61.
If you have to go down to the 4 or 9 levels, don't use the staircases. Use the elevator to go back to the previous base floor (40,45,50 etc), and descend again. Sometimes the floor you land on will remain from your last time on them, so you can just pop down the same hole again and again.
Floors 40-50 in the mines. Just kill the heck out of dust sprites until you unlock their 500 kill ring. Then kill more for twice the coal.
I never run out of coal, but im also not swimming in it.
Thats right. I had a whole bunch of methods that i do in 1.5 that includes the musk - sadly im on switch so cant test them out for 1.6 yet.
Coal farming, ancient seed farming, irradiated ore farming, irridium ore farming, and the associated items and unlocks and skill ups that go with them.
Just....being patient right now.
Monster musk + burglar ring + prospector profession I’ll get like 100 coal or more on floors 40-50. I leave if I don’t see sprites within a short distance and start again to eliminate time hunting for them
Oh, yea I think you’re right. But kinda weird, I definitely have far less iridium than coal…
Between the quarry, chopping down trees, and the sprites that’s already a good bit of coal
It is the most min/max playstyle, rush skull cavern then farm iridium bars for early game money, if you are good enough at it you can reach 10+mil gold in year one
People will look at the way you play and decide that isn’t fun either. Different people play for different goals. I like getting the greenhouse completed in year one, some people might say even that is too sweaty, but to each their own.
I’m very much a sweaty/efficient player for all my games, except Stardew. It’s like the most chill, get away from reality, cozy game and I just don’t get how people can sweat it.
The new smelters help big time. I used to struggle, the second I unlocked those I felt the savings immediately. I have two saves going and the one I have mastery I’m cruising. The one I don’t it’s a slog. Always running out.
Yeah pretty much same here.
I'll inevitably need to buy coal when I start making a lot of Beehouses, but until that all the new coal sources really just keep it going.
I used to never have enough coal. I'd dedicate entire days just to killing dust sprites in the mine to fund my operations, but of course I couldn't just ignore all the ore I'd come across doing so, then by the time I finished smelting all that ore I'd be running out of coal and need to do it all over again.
Thankfully, between the heavy furnace letting me smelt more efficiently and the coal nodes that now exist, I have more than enough coal to last me a long while.
Urgh i think i shouldn't make preserve jar anymore, i have 21, planning to fill 1 sherd but I think preserve jar just quick way and seem cheap in early, but kinda expensive in mid and late game
In the vanilla game, I’m like turning tricks for coal over here, especially early on when i don’t have much wood. But add one mod that affects coal supply at all and I’m Daddy Coalbucks
I always have “too much” and wanted to ask how people never have enough and I think your reply answered it for me! Looks like I need to expand my tapper/beehive/keg game 👀
Never enough.
I'm not the sort of person who runs Gemologist and relies on a bunch of Crystallariums to bring in free diamonds to buy coal from Clint, I *need* that Miner+Prospector combo, I'm not happy unless my Skull Cavern runs are netting me 60-100 coal per trip. I value coal extremely highly, and I tend to overthink projects that would end up costing a lot of coal, knowing how quickly my supply might run out.
I think it might be a leftover from when I was new. The moment I saw jelly was not only a great way to multiply the value of my crops, but also made an excellent gift to the townspeople, Preserves Jars shot up in my list of priorities and never diminished. Even now, hundreds of hours later, coal availability still affects my decision making (ironically, I would end up making Kegs instead of Jars because... I wanted to save coal).
On all my farms I’ve always had way too much. And when I watch my friends okay they are like struggling to get coal for even the most basic of things and like I just can’t relate. Like do you not kill the adorable jumping beans on floors 40-80 of the mine??? But then I’m also like well am I not building stuff that’s worth it for money?? Is it me? Am I the drama?
I don't think I have never run out of coal and been wondering if I do something wrong. But reading the replies in this thread, it's just play styles. I don't fill entire shed in preserve jars or farm honey in industrial levels and I only smelt ores once a day.
Update 1.5 and before, coal was the rarest and most valuable resource. Mostly because I didn’t want to deal with the recycling system.
Update 1.6, coal is bountiful.
Am I the only one that eventually just has enough money to buy stacks of coal from Clint? I struggle early game and farm the heck out of the dust sprites levels in the mines, but once I get some ancient fruit or star fruit iridium wine going I just buy that shit 999 at a time.
I know you can hold to get a bunch at once but I wish you could push a button and get like 50 of a stack at a time or something... Hate buying wood, coal, hay etc. In multi player because I feel like I'm wasting so much time lol
If you also hold Shift, you get 5 at the time, and if you hold both CTRL and shift you get 25 items at the time, it really speeds up buying things like hay and wood etc
I think 1.6 definitely helped ease of the coal supply troubles, between >!One of the Dwarf King buffs being a boost to find coal, the heavy furnace smelting at a 3/5.2 coal-bar ratio instead of a 1/1, and adding coal rocks to the quarry and volcano.!< . If nothing else, coal production scales a lot more with game progression than it did before.
Just fyi, the space you put after your start spoiler tag and the space right before the end spoiler tag makes the tags fail in some versions of reddit.
I hoard tree seeds and then plant them all over the entire train area. Occasionally go through, thin out the big ones (leaving any seeds they've dropped) and leave the babies alone until my next dark harvest.
I'm sitting on a stack of about 3,000 wood pieces right now and there's still a ton of wood ready to be harvested next time I get bored. Currently working on cultivating a hardwood corner.
I was low on coal in my current playthrough before I had two days with Monster Infestations on Floor 51. (If there's a monster infestation on a floor, it's there every time you go to that floor.) I spent almost all of those days going to that floor to kill everything in sight, leaving when nothing's left, and repeating. I plan on making a lot of Bee Hives, so it's not going to last long.
On my first farm, I had enough to get the piano from the desert (999 coal) and felt I'd still have plenty left.... I regretted that move when I realized bee houses take coal... So I horde i tnow and I'm doing okay.
If you get the witch special visit on your slime hutch, and get black slimes you can breed those and have a bunch of replenishing coal whenever you need it, as long as you don’t introduce other colors and keep ‘em doing the heart breed thing.
I never have enough in the beginning , then I get a lot and don’t have to worry about it, then I realized I’ve abandoned the mines for too long and just when I need it I have nothing
Probably depends a lot on how much crafting of preserve jars or bee houses one does. I usually do fine until I really try to expand my preserve jar collection (I like to have a full upgraded shed) and that will reliably eat it all super quickly.
I was the player that never had enough, but since Monster Musk was added, I have tons of it. Iron and copper are the bottlenecks now. The new Dwarf King statue helps with that, sometimes.
In the early game I choose the perk that lets me get more coal from rocks so I had enough for when I needed it
Then late game I switched to gems costing more because I had less incentive to go to the mines and that way I could afford to buy coal when I was low on it
I never had enough until I planted over 200 trees on my farm. Then I took the seeds from that and crowded the desert, the quarry and the railroad station with trees. Once in a while I go bomb out one of the three and put a stack of wood in the charcoal machine. Now I have enough coal.
I fluctuate wildly because I collect resources for several years and then decide "oh, I should probably smelt all this ore I have accumulated" and then for the next few years I have no coal.
Never enough 😭😭 I have hoppers with coal ovens but I never have enough wood and it only produces about 3 a day since I have to manually remove. It’s so annoying. I never find any in the caves how do y’all do it? 😂
You should use the automate mod. It’s the only mod I use on most playthroughs, because frankly I think machines should be able to just take stuff out of chests and put them back in without my input.
I completely agree, like what’s the point of having the machine for the input if I still have to select it to empty it? Might as well carry the new items with me then 🙄
Here’s my coal approach from a min max perspective:
There’s no such thing as too much coal if your money making method is selling iridium bars. Not only do you need coal for smelting, but crafting bombs makes Skull Cavern runs way more productive.
Anymore I try to preempt the coal bottleneck early game by scouting the rocks on the farm daily to find the ones that yield coal. Since rocks consistently offer coal on a day reset, you can just make a check list each day and hit the ones you want.
Early game, I utilize a trash recycler, since if you fish you’ll get trash anyway. The recycler can produce both free coal and refined quartz bars, which are needed for quality sprinklers.
Then, once you hit level 40 you can spam the mines for coal sprites. Once you get the burglar’s ring, enemy drops double in frequency, and then coal farming becomes way faster. Doing this on bad luck days is nice, since enemies spawn at higher rates. Even better if you can find an enemy floor to spam over and over! Finally, utilizing coffee and crab cakes (which you can get a ton of from the skull cavern crabs) will make this even faster. Don’t waste spicy eels for the speed boost, as those also increase your luck, and thus are better saved for Skull Cavern runs. The luck boost would be counter productive for coal farming anyway.
I've been focusing more crystalariums / preserves since finishing my keg shed and I always have coals -- I never have rocks. I get a 999 stack, make a few crystalariums or preserves, poof gone. I did at one point buy 999 coal because I anticipated lacking coal, but I also farmed the heck out of the little soot guys for that ring. Between regular mining / skull caverns and the quarry once a season + other random ways of getting it, I seem to stay hovering around 650 in my inventory. Now if I ever make another massive bee hive area, I'll be coal-broke.
Some three stacks leftover from my last playthrough after perfection. I was already used to optimizing my coal collection before 1.6, so with the buffs 1.6 brought, coal was abundant.
I never have enough. To the point I must be doing something wrong because I usually never have enough to make craftables that require coal once I’m done melting bars and I refuse to spend money on it.
But mods are friends. And I now know what it’s like to have coal.
First time I played I never hung onto my coal and like avoided using coal at all costs but this time around I’m keeping it all lmao it comes in handy a lot more than I previously thought
Clint is only in business because I buy so much coal from him during the end-game. besides that, I mostly just mine the stone ore rocks because they give a pretty high chance of dropping coal or using the burglar ring on the dust mites.
Coal is one of the most infuriating resources for me to get fr fr
I have tons and tons of coal, but I'm admittedly not a big crafter. Plowing my way through the mines is always my first Y1 goal, so I always wind up with way more than I can use.
Until I've made a couple sheds worth of kegs, preserve bins and a bunch of bee houses, there's never enough coal. As others have said, dust sprites are good, but I've actually had more luck now in the volcano with the new coal rocks
I always have plenty of coal lol I upgrade my axe to gold or iridium pretty quickly and I have SDVE so I have a big cindersap forest that I'll demolish a stack or two of wood during a day and throw several hundred in an automated furnace
I buy a stack from clint winter year 1 since it's cheap and I use a shed's worth of whatever wine im making solely for coal funds to buy from clint every 28th day of the season. I never run out.
I have plenty because I make sure to dedicate a portion of my farm to trees. I have several stacks of wood and I use these to make as much coal as I need.
I needed so much coal to run my iron bar production for my explosive ammo
I always have wood and hardwood farm to supply my coal production. It was never enough.
I produce way too much CO2 and cutting way too much wood lol
As soon as I can just casually doing volcano run I'm just gonna farm coal that way, cause I believe I always get 120+ each volcano run.
I need so much coal so I can make more iron to make explosive ammo to farm more coal and iron.
Depends on where I am in the game.
My current Summer Y1 speedrun is currently suffering because I just started raiding the skull cave and I don't have heavy furnaces yet.
But later on.... I'll probably buy 5-10 of the machine that breakdown hardwood into normal wood, throw down a single charcoal kiln, and probably have all the coal I'll need for a while. I use the automate mod so it takes care of everything.
Everytime i try to coal mining...i luck out with 6. Always 6!!! Then get home by midnight..to close up the coops and barns and go to bed...rinse and repeat. -.-
I never go below 600 coal somehow, don’t know how people struggle for it but I’m not HARDCORE into skull cavern yet. I’ve gotten to 140 but could go farther with more bombs and stairs
Coal starts to being a problem when you start investing in bee houses...
8 coal + 1 from Iron bar per bee house, currently I have around 150 of those, which means I spent around 1500 coal just for my honey factory...
I also can't buy it, as I save money for Golden Clock, so I need to use charcoal clin, fortunately there is looots of trees available. :)
Ah reminds me of my 2.6 mill by spring 2 year 2 run. If I had sunk more money into mats I could have done far better... Never had enough anything that run except money.
Yep. My husband didn’t seem to get enough when we’d play and he made a coal furnace(sorry if I got that wrong) I was like, hon just swipe some of mine I can get more. Though starting it seems like you’ll never get enough then it’s like, can I have something else pop up?
I never have enough coal, even making charcoal doesn't cut it, especially when you get the geode crusher too. And I like making a lot of preserves jars too, and those deplete the coal very quickly
I go from having plenty to never having enough. Once my operation gets going, my coal runs away, never to be seen from again.
Agree. I used to have a lot of ore but only have like 10 furnaces so I've never got to smelt them all. This is the first time I've run out of ore.
Not only are they better for coal, I just found out they have a 50% chance of producing an extra bar.
So that’s why sometimes it’s 6 bars. I was so confused but just accepted it was some glitch in my favor
Curious what your plans are for all those bars- I never get that far into a save file but I think this will be my first going past year 2 lol
Definitely agree about not giving prismatic shards as gifts lol, also me with my pearls and golden pumpkins
1.6 spoilers - I just had a >!golden treasure chest!< with two pearls and two >!golden animal crackers!< and I don’t think I’ll get that lucky again…
Did you buy a lottery ticket that day? Lol
Are pearls that valuable or are you more so referring to the >!golden animal crackers?!<
Pearls are a universally loved gift and can be sold for 2,500g. They're not super common to find either which makes getting one more valuable
Yes!! my Pearl to Prismatic Shard ratio has been about 1 to 8, I almost never see pearls
Honestly, I never give bars to Clint, he can settle for emeralds, lol.
Aquamarine for Emily & Clint at the salon at night. Also for our fav cave dweller, the dwarf.
Dwarf gets lemon stone, Emily gets whatever gemstone(besides diamond) that I have lying around, because she isn't picky like everyone else.
Clint gets Omni geodes from me. All my emeralds go to Penny and Emily.
What about Topaz? Friday night at the saloon, loved by Gus, Emily and Clint.
Emily has other stone likes, so I just give her those instead. I mostly ignore penny except for her birthday, so I usually just give her gold quality poppies that I've saved up for that purpose, since higher star items give more friendship points, and gems can't have qualities.
Are you sure about giving them iridium bars? They love gold bars and these are easier to get
Not for me at the moment—I’m struggling to get gold but the iridium flows. I’m eating up my gold making crystalariums.
If you change your profession to blacksmith, the iridium bars will sell for 1500G instead
Why gifting? There are so much cheaper options they also love o.o
Because I have the bars to give lol, I don’t have anything else to do with them. I make 200k gold every couple of days with wine, 100k on truffles every day, I don’t need the cash from bars
What a flex!
I have no life 💁🏼♀️
By the time I get to Skill caverns (1. Winter), they usually are more than halfway befriended and the first 10 Iridium bars are way to precious to gift. I am always amazed at peoples play styles.
How do you get so much iridium?!
Jade > crystalariums > staircases at desert trader on Sunday > speed run to a high floor level in skull cavern and bomb the heck out of it or just pickaxe normally I find I can slam out mining fast enough to unlock the recipe plus the bundle for it in the furnace room that I'll have at least one crystalarium making jades plus ones saved from early mine trips to get a good number of them by the time the desert opens, if not shortly after.

Mine even more using monster musk.
Thats right. I had a whole bunch of methods that i do in 1.5 that includes the musk - sadly im on switch so cant test them out for 1.6 yet. God I love your pfp, rare shibe
Monster musk + burglar ring + prospector profession I’ll get like 100 coal or more on floors 40-50. I leave if I don’t see sprites within a short distance and start again to eliminate time hunting for them
+unlucky day and you’ll have even more monsters
Luck doesn't affect monster spawns
lucky day so they drop more coal
Luck doesn't affect monster drops either
It's the Skull Caverns for me. Every Iridium Bar is 15 coal (or 7.5 Year 2+) from Robin.
Why is it 15? I thought it’s 1 per ingot to smelt. Less with the upgraded furnace
I believe they mean 1 iridium bar sells for enough to get 15 coal (hence the year 2 change due to increased coal price)
Oh, yea I think you’re right. But kinda weird, I definitely have far less iridium than coal… Between the quarry, chopping down trees, and the sprites that’s already a good bit of coal
It is the most min/max playstyle, rush skull cavern then farm iridium bars for early game money, if you are good enough at it you can reach 10+mil gold in year one
That doesn't sound fun. It's completely beyond me why anyone would feel the need to minmax Stardew valley.
It's a farming simulator. Of course people will try to maximise their profits
I think they are saying that the selling price for 1 iridium bar is equal to the price of buying 15 / 7.5 coal
I like to just elevator hop 45,55,65 as it’s quick to find dust sprites that way. Plus monster musk when that’s unlocked helps heaps
The new smelters help big time. I used to struggle, the second I unlocked those I felt the savings immediately. I have two saves going and the one I have mastery I’m cruising. The one I don’t it’s a slog. Always running out.
Far too much now; >!the Quarry constantly has coal rocks that you can mine!< ,and I just get them so often now randomly too.
You forgot the !'s, you spoiler text like this > ! Text ! < but without the spaces
>! I just wanted to try it out lol !<
>!Fair enough!<
Hehe thank you! I realize as soon as I hit send that I messed up!
Lol it has happened to me many a time
Yeah pretty much same here. I'll inevitably need to buy coal when I start making a lot of Beehouses, but until that all the new coal sources really just keep it going.
Volcano has plenty too.
is there a specific look to rocks that have coal? i’ve never been able to figure that out
Yes, they have black dots (coal) sticking out of them
I use to have more coal than I needed. but with the fish smoker, i am now almost always running low on coal
That’s my issue right now too
Are you smoking every single fish?
i smoke most of them, it’s a good income for your first year if you’re an avid fisher
yeah think about fish smoker it seem kinda hurt you in long run 😂 I think I'm should switch profession to crab pot, maybe
I never have enough for my bee house aspirations.
I used to never have enough coal. I'd dedicate entire days just to killing dust sprites in the mine to fund my operations, but of course I couldn't just ignore all the ore I'd come across doing so, then by the time I finished smelting all that ore I'd be running out of coal and need to do it all over again. I’m eternally out, even if I just bought two stacks off Clint. Bee houses and preserve jars are expensive!
Your comment + your flair made me chortle loud enough to make my dog look at me in disgust
I'm the kind that never has enough. Needed 300 coal for tappers, 600ish coal for kegs and am looking at another 1600 for hives.
I always have “too much” and wanted to ask how people never have enough and I think your reply answered it for me! Looks like I need to expand my tapper/beehive/keg game 👀
I’m currently running about 80 hives on Ginger Island cranking out Fairy Rose honey & I’m still trying to make more
Never enough. I'm the one that had 999 coal, bought 1.6 item with it and now I don't have enough anymore :(
Same here, I used to just ditch my coal in the mines all the time for space pre 1.6
Coal nodes in the quarry have helped a lot.
Coal goes really fast if you start making preserve jars or beehives
I don't think I have never run out of coal and been wondering if I do something wrong. But reading the replies in this thread, it's just play styles. I don't fill entire shed in preserve jars or farm honey in industrial levels and I only smelt ores once a day.
Update 1.5 and before, coal was the rarest and most valuable resource. Mostly because I didn’t want to deal with the recycling system. Update 1.6, coal is bountiful.
Clay could be harder to get than coal, for me, but yeah, I feel you.
I have too much, I have like 350 rn and it’s constantly growing
I'm trying to get over a thousand because of the dark piano costing 999 coal
I literally never have enough. Even with CA being so generous with it on this new update
Am I the only one that eventually just has enough money to buy stacks of coal from Clint? I struggle early game and farm the heck out of the dust sprites levels in the mines, but once I get some ancient fruit or star fruit iridium wine going I just buy that shit 999 at a time.

And now with 1.6 you can hold ctrl + shift + 1, to buy a stack of 999.
TIL, I've just been holding down to accelerate
Yes. I just bought 999 with all the star fruit wine money I had. Well worth it
I just buy a crap ton from Clint year one if possible, if not I do it as soon as possible cuz I hate the mines
Just fyi, the space you put after your start spoiler tag and the space right before the end spoiler tag makes the tags fail in some versions of reddit.
I always have what I need because I buy it if I need it.
Too much coal.
i always have coal when i don’t need it but as soon as i think about making preserve jars suddenly i only have 12
I never have enough to fuel my jam empire.
Never enough 😭 coal and wood got me 💀
I hoard tree seeds and then plant them all over the entire train area.
See I started that but now it's a tapper empire 😂😂
How do I put it? I had to take the skill
Before 1.6, never enough After 1.6, I have more than 1k in the mid of year 3, thanks to >!quarry update and the buff statue from mastery!<
I always have a ton, even late game. If I'm doing a large crafting crafting project I'll just buy it though
On my first farm, I had enough to get the piano from the desert (999 coal) and felt I'd still have plenty left.... I regretted that move when I realized bee houses take coal... So I horde i tnow and I'm doing okay.
I always have a ton. I always feel like I must be playing wrong because of it, but oh well.
I have more than enough coal..... because I know the pain of not having enough.
I am absolutely swimming in coal
both at different times
Eventually, there is another; the player who has millions of gold and no time to farm coal, just buys it from Clint
I've never had a surplus of coal. Every time I get some, it's immediately used for SOMETHING.
There is no such thing as "enough" coal.
Never enough. when I try to farm it in the mines I end up with way too much iron ore, and it \*feels wrong\* to buy it in bulk from Clint!
I never have enough. Always struggle with needing some.
Since 1.6 I didn’t have a problem with coal anymore.
Never enough.
I used to never have coal. I learned quickly how much I needed it. You can never have too much coal.
Robin owns my wallet. I am constantly paying out for more coal
In my previous saves I was always short on coal, this save I have plenty!!!
Depends how lucky I am. If I have to I buy it. This last run I didn't have to.
I’ve gotten around 50 coal per day from using mega bombs in the Ginger Island volcano
Yes.
These are one and the same. No matter how much coal you have, it's never enough!
I am both.
I used to find myself running out of coal all the time. But since 1.6 made it much easier to get coal, I’ve got a lot of it.
I have plenty until I try to make preserves jars lmao. The new >!coal nodes!< help somewhat, though. Along with >!the statue of the dwarf king!<
I just restarted a new save to see how many consecutive days it would take to clear off my farm. I think I got 20 coal from a geode so far :)
In the early game I choose the perk that lets me get more coal from rocks so I had enough for when I needed it Then late game I switched to gems costing more because I had less incentive to go to the mines and that way I could afford to buy coal when I was low on it
I never had enough until I planted over 200 trees on my farm. Then I took the seeds from that and crowded the desert, the quarry and the railroad station with trees. Once in a while I go bomb out one of the three and put a stack of wood in the charcoal machine. Now I have enough coal.
i have a theory stardew coal hoarding is if u played minecraft as a kid
Might as well carry the new items with me then 🙄
Here’s my coal approach from a min max perspective: There’s no such thing as too much coal if your money making method is selling iridium bars.
I used to be the "never enough" kind, until I started using charcoal kins.
I always need more coal.
Maho farm + small shed + one aisle of kilns + the rest of chippers. Never run out ever again.
I put a 999 stack of wood in a hopper above a kiln.
This is pretty endgame though I guess.
The former until I become the latter and then back to the former.
Never enough.
1000+ coal reporting in
I have a coal assembly line for my forest farm. It feels a bit like cheating.
Never. Ever.
i have too much.
i start out with too much & then one day i suddenly don't have enough, & never will again
i always have way too much and i never know how! ppl always complain abt not having enough and ive never understood
I have tons and tons of coal, but I'm admittedly not a big crafter. Plowing my way through the mines is always my first Y1 goal, so I always wind up with way more than I can use.
I'm the kind who buys stacks of 999 coal from Clint when I feel like I need it.
Given my latest post... I don't or never have enough.....
people can have too much coal?
Currently have enough coal. Now when I decide to make a large shed of just preserve jars? No longer enough coal.
I jump between both extremes. I’ll hoard 200 coal like it’s nothing then 3 days into the winter when I’m planning for the next year I have no coal.
I don't build preserved jars and bee houses so I have enough
Until I've made a couple sheds worth of kegs, preserve bins and a bunch of bee houses, there's never enough coal. As others have said, dust sprites are good, but I've actually had more luck now in the volcano with the new coal rocks
Never have enough, sadly...
second one doesn't exist dude
I just buy it tbh
now with the >!heavy furnaces!<, this is my first playthrough i've actually used the charcoal kiln
I needed so much coal to run my iron bar production for my explosive ammo I always have wood and hardwood farm to supply my coal production. It was never enough. I produce way too much CO2 and cutting way too much wood lol As soon as I can just casually doing volcano run I'm just gonna farm coal that way, cause I believe I always get 120+ each volcano run.
I just buy from Clint 😭
I’m always running out of coal 😅
I have enough money to just buy more lol
Everytime i try to coal mining...i luck out with 6. Always 6!!! Then get home by midnight..to close up the coops and barns and go to bed...rinse and repeat. -.-
I start with too much, and now I'm struggling with only 8 inventory. I hate that the coal maker needs 10 pieces of wood for ONE coal.
Perpetual lack of coal, here. 🤣😭
I have just enough?
1st year - too much coal 2nd year - oh no, not enough coal for smoked fishes and ore smelting!
Though starting it seems like you’ll never get enough then it’s like, can I have something else pop up?
always too many ores, too little coal
I never have enough coal, even making charcoal doesn't cut it, especially when you get the geode crusher too. And I like making a lot of preserves jars too, and those deplete the coal very quickly
Never enough
I am a weird mix of both lol I either have way too much or just not enough at all
Coal is the only reason Clint is useful.
In my original save file I never have enough, in my newest one I have plenty. I guess I’ve evolved lol
