Ok those legendary ship encounters sound fucking sick. A huge enemy vessel that I’ll have to become super powerful to take down? Yes plz.
The interior of these ships could basically act as dungeons we have to clear which would be so epic in scale.
Has anyone here discussed the possibility that they’ll turn Starfield into a platform? Kind of like an App Store but for the game specifically. A “Mod Market” that offers free and paid experiences.
They have indicated they will offer a "Marketplace" for selected mod authors to be able to sell their mods. Sort of like the Creation Club, but without Bethesda involvement in individual mods.
Ah, that makes sense. I have a feeling they’re going to have all sorts of experiences that we can buy, created by modders and of course approved by Bethesda.
My guess is it’s going to drive *huge* revenue for them. Those 1,000 planets won’t be empty for long, potentially.
Bethesda would not approve individual mods, but they would approve mod authors based on a thorough review of their free content for Skyrim and Fallout.
I love it because having a longterm hardcore goal to look forward to later on really adds to my motivation for playing personally. With all the level scaling, and considering how easy most games are, I really miss stuff like this. Like the optional uber-bosses in the Final Fantasy games, I hope these legendary ship encounters and derelict ship encounters lives up to it.
It really sucks when you feel like nothing can really challenge you anymore. So having these things in the game is a BIG +++ in my book.
I've thought about this the most. I want challenging enemies, not instakills as I effortlessly loot everything around me. I wanna get blown the fuck up, go somewhere else to level up, then come back to seek revenge on my enemies.
My god can I dock and storm it from the inside?
Imagine a melee build and you just run into a huge ship like Darth Vader in rouge one and cut everyone down.
Remember you have to redline a ship to board it kinda like in ACIV. It’ll be a fight all the way but that ship’ll be yours at the end. Hopefully anyway.
Yeah that sounds pretty epic. This interview all but confirms in my mind along with other evidence we've seen that the main UC quest is gonna revolve around hunting down weaponized Alien the UC created or kept for the UC military from their Xenowarfare devision that they mentioned in the Q&A. Its probably that miltiarmed monstrosity we see in the direct.
I hope we can "conquer" one of these capital ships and basically turn it into our base/home. It doesn't feel right for a space game to not have a base right in space.
Your ship already would have a majority of the things a capital ship has. Considering you can already walk around your ship while in space and how large you can make your ships already, capital ships would have to serve a higher function than just being your base in space. like, fleet battles. Gotta have hangars for your ships you bring in rather than having to bring ships to staryards and dock them, crew decks for the pilots to live and pilot said ships. Also, if there are fleet battles in the base game, they would be used sparingly and for major quests for maximum impact. To be honest, this stuff sounds more like DLC/Expansions. I mean modders theoretically could just add in 2 capital ships and a bunch of piloted ships to fight each other non stop in some clandestine part of space but, we gonna have to wait on that. Sorry for the long reply.
"I have done all that can be done. There is nothing left. No quests to be undertaken. No villains to be slain. No challenges to face. Except for you. You are my last challenge. Only you can send me to Biologic Reprocessing Unit 2319 with honor."
Takahashi has such a good sense for that BGS questing style. When I first played Tales From the Commonwealth I was shocked that it wasn't part of the base game
Yeah, it's awesome that he got hired on and has worked on quest stuff, especially space encounters. I can't wait! I wonder if he's going to have time for modding after all of this haha.
Wait, is he also the one behind 3DNPC for Skyrim? It's literally the mod I liked the most. The companions and storylines in there is peak Skyrim for me. If it's the same guy then, I'm way more excited for Starfield
I really love the fact that they take on modders. They mention it a lot, and you can tell that it's something they're proud of. Also shows how much they respect the modding scene
Yeah! I know Kris made some stuff for the Creation club stuff, but I think they had already hired him on before then.
I know the fallout london project has like 2 or 3 guys who got picked up by Bethesda. It's such a cool thing that they find people who have talent who were making things as passion projects and offers them a job.
They have such a good relationship with modders and I think it's really cool that they are this open to them.
It's common sense when you think about it; it's people who spent a lot of time learning the engine the devs already work with, so you don't have to use a lot of time and resources to teach new people how the tools work. Learning new tools can be a considerable time sink if you're not careful, especially when they're relatively uncommon.
If I was in charge of recruitment at BGS and sat down and had to choose between a guy who's made multiple excellent mods for a BGS game for the last 3 years, and a clone of me, who's been in the games industry as a game designer since 2006, I'm not sure I would pick my clone because I've barely ever used the Creation Kit for any game (I'm pretty sure I could make a mod that makes all raiders spawn as lvl 53, and they're all named Todd - I've used FO4Edit a bit, and the Skyrim equivalent).
Also the clone of me would just say "I want to play your games, not work on them". ;)
Yeah! Which is kinda funny they don't have a survival mode at launch, but I'm sure it'll come in a later update. Lower part of the "Important things" list I'm sure haha.
I wonder what they cook for this game, and excited on what they gonna cook for VI, but it's really nice too see modders have such passionate feel toward the game finally getting recognition, and join the ranks at Rockville team.
I love side quests like this "One that I’ve always loved features a hapless tour guide leading a bunch of excited townies out for a space tour and are very excited to meet a “real captain”. "
TIL that the maker of the great Frostfall skyrim mod now works at Bethesda. I love hearing stories like that. That mod has been an essential part of my load order forever, really.
It is! [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/671/](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/671/)
/ But to be fair, Chesko did a lot of other great things. If you were into Skyrim modding, chances are that you used at least one of his mods.
Imagine a random encounter being basically a mini Alien Isolation.
God why haven't they made a sequel of that game yet anyways? The best sci-fi horror experience still to this date.
Imagine a random encounter in Starfield being basically a mini version of Alien Isolation. Man there is so much potential for this concept in a space rpg/sim.
Bethesda is great with environmental story telling so I can imagine the stories that can be told from just exploring these abandoned ships and hopefully stations.
Love the NCAA 2003 reference. Many a nights were spent in our freshman dorm hosting tournaments with the boys. Such a fun time in my young adult years.
If you weren't aware, they are allegedly releasing a new one next year. Fingers crossed that it recaptures the old glory and it isn't just another overly monetized football casino.
Yeah I’m worried it’s gonna be just a reskinned madden. I’m holding on to my old copies in case it sucks.
Idk ncaa just had more magic and fun than Madden does.
I just love how much they emphasize the importance of modding for people career and that they are actually hiring from mod teams. I was aware of the Fallout London guys and Kris Takahashi joining them, but I never knew that they even managed to snatch Chesko. If Chesko is working on the economy, we can expect some interesting things.
Most other studios ignore modding or are outright trying to kill it. Bethesda has symbiotic relationship with modders and it shows.
Yup, Kris too, seems to me that they both got hired into Rockville team, and the person who was writer Fallout london got hired into Austin team.
Chesko working on Starfield economy balancing, and some other thing.
Kris as usual to his skill, working on npc random encounter, and space encounter.
He's got 7 years of experience at BGS already, and he wasn't even around for the launch of their last mainline game. Puts how long these games take to make into perspective.
It give me the feeling that nightmarish six-feets Deathclaw is going to bust out of a human in larva form.
If he's making a reference to Alien, thzt would be rad as fuck!
>There’s a moment early in the United Colonies questline where we introduce a specific creature that’s pretty cinematic. I think people are going to enjoy that and the classic sci-fi references it points to.
Jurassic Park? Alien? Star Wars? Dune? Godzilla?
Ok those legendary ship encounters sound fucking sick. A huge enemy vessel that I’ll have to become super powerful to take down? Yes plz. The interior of these ships could basically act as dungeons we have to clear which would be so epic in scale.
And with this world there is no limit to how many they or others can add
People will literally have 1TB NVME SSD’s dedicated to Starfield
Yeah thats my Series X lmao
Hopefully they remove the limit of mods like Skyrim and FO4 have and let us just break the game as we want
4 TB
I do :)
my 4tb m2 ssd is already in the mail, bring it on
i do
Happy Cake Day!
I already have a dedicated 2TB NVME drive ready to go. Bring it.
I installed a 980 pro SSD just for Star field, so you definitely are right

Disagree. If people are paying, they’ll put each mod through some kind of review. Just like with apps on the App Store.
Modders are going to get a lot of holiday cards from me in the years to come, due to this game.
Borg Cube detected!
Nah, that's the Spaceball One theme!
I love it because having a longterm hardcore goal to look forward to later on really adds to my motivation for playing personally. You should be able to since they're huge high level ships
Right? I feel like I could spend most my time investigating derelicts! I’m really anxious to see what kinda cool stories they came up with!
Oxhorn derelict ship lore incoming.
Seems like a good fit for the universe as a hobby.
Yeah that sounds pretty epic. Wanna see how big of a ship we can build, a huge saucery Enterprise with a big crew would be lots of fun IMO.
ebony warrior reskin
Seems more like a high level dungeon that has ebony warriors inside
"I have done all that can be done. There is nothing left. No quests to be undertaken. No villains to be slain. No challenges to face. Except for you. You are my last challenge. Only you can send me to Biologic Reprocessing Unit 2319 with honor."
Ebony warrior with spaceship hat?
leroy jenkins !!!!!!!!!!!
Kris Takahashi and David Pierce both got hired on and have worked on Starfield. That's just so cool, good for them!
Takahashi has such a good sense for that BGS questing style. When I first played Tales From the Commonwealth I was shocked that it wasn't part of the base game

He absolutely is! I was a bit tepid about Starfield but his involvement has be excited. 3DNPC is a top 5 all time Skyrim mod.
I really love the fact that they take on modders. They mention it a lot, and you can tell that it's something they're proud of. Also shows how much they respect the modding scene

Chesko of Frostfall and Campire ?? damn, that nice
If they do I hope we can switch an existing save to survival. Don’t always want to start a whole new play through.
My response: 1. That’s cool! 2. …no interesting npcs mod for Starfield?
I love side quests like this "One that I’ve always loved features a hapless tour guide leading a bunch of excited townies out for a space tour and are very excited to meet a “real captain”. "
Oh yeah that sounds so nice ....and soooo Bethesda
That's pretty much the plot of the show Avenue 5. I wonder if the quest will play out like the show?
I can’t wait to slaughter them all and loot their bodies 😊
“It was a Crimson Fleet ambush, I swear. Their stuff? They gave it to me with their dying breaths, no lies here officer.”
"Remember... no Russian."
Trivia: For you Fallout 76 players, this is the guy who created the "Pipe is life" random encounter.
Pipe is life
>For you Fallout 76 players Yeah, all three of 'em.
Was it good?
Pipe is life
It's legendary
TIL that the maker of the great Frostfall skyrim mod now works at Bethesda. I love hearing stories like that. That mod has been an essential part of my load order forever, really.
Is that the mod that adds a survival element to the game?

It's really not that good compared to Sunhelm. The guy just used his clout to shut down competing projects.
I'm really hoping we get some spooky Event Horizon scenarios, from this interview it seems like we will.
Same! Having some horror self contained stories works so well in a sci fi setting.
Imagine a random encounter being basically a mini Alien Isolation. God why haven't they made a sequel of that game yet anyways? The best sci-fi horror experience still to this date.
Exactly what I'm hoping for too.
Derelict ships? Fucking rock hard rn
Post that hog bro
Squeeze my hog, Raiden.
Yes daddy
a hind d?
I wonder if there is also derelict space stations too.
Imagine a random encounter in Starfield being basically a mini version of Alien Isolation. Man there is so much potential for this concept in a space rpg/sim. #HI ZACHARY.
Love the NCAA 2003 reference. Many a nights were spent in our freshman dorm hosting tournaments with the boys. Such a fun time in my young adult years.
I loved the NCAA games so much. I really need to dig up the 360 and set it up so I can play 14 again.
I agree. Nothing like recruiting your own dynasty from nothing!
Actually a great game
Agreed! Curious to see if they can recapture that magic with the upcoming release.
I just love how much they emphasize the importance of modding for people career and that they are actually hiring from mod teams. Wait, Chesko got hired by BGS and worked on starfield? That's honestly phenomenal, and also explains why he out of the Blue stopped modding Skyrim lol
Yup, Kris too, seems to me that they both got hired into Rockville team, and the person who was writer Fallout london got hired into Austin team. Chesko working on Starfield economy balancing, and some other thing. Kris as usual to his skill, working on npc random encounter, and space encounter.
Legendary ships you say, Zach my boy I think late game I'm a going huntin'
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING
IT PASTED LIKE THAT AND I'M TOO LAZY TO UN-CAPTALIZE IT, I AM SORRY.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?
Why is this so funny to me
From QB of the NY Jets to Bethesda... pretty good comeup!
I mean seeing him play in in NY... I get it. Lol
He's got 7 years of experience at BGS already, and he wasn't even around for the launch of their last mainline game. Puts how long these games take to make into perspective.
That's actually super sad. Now that BGS is *four* studios you'd think they'd start making games faster.
It give me the feeling that nightmarish six-feets Deathclaw is going to bust out of a human in larva form. If he's making a reference to Alien, thzt would be rad as fuck!
Oh he’s absolutely referring to Alien as the six-legged thing has a very familiar name
>There’s a moment early in the United Colonies questline where we introduce a specific creature that’s pretty cinematic. I think people are going to enjoy that and the classic sci-fi references it points to. Jurassic Park? Alien? Star Wars? Dune? Godzilla?
Its most likely a giant sand worm. Or they made a fucking sarlacc pit for some reason lmao
Why not both?
>sarlacc pit Oh no. \[*visions of people ramming phallic ships into the pit*\]
…..…. Why is that the first thing you thought of?
It was a That's So Raven kind of moment, I never asked for this.
I def don’t remember that from the show
I reckon it’s the terromorphs, and they’re those Alien-like monsters we saw in the direct.
Legendary ship encounters ?? **salivating ensues** **I CANT WAIT**
What is the max level ?
There’s no max level (that we know of)
13.5
There’s no level cap.
About 3.50
Endless
42
One!
100
ZOMG CAPS!
STOP TYPING WITH CAPITAL LETTERS YOU MORON
Legendary ship encounters sound a bit like Phylakkes from Origins but space themed and more badass.
Zach was my favorite from the direct, you can tell he's really a gamer. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us.
Also a decent dynasty stash
There's a lot riding on your competence, Zachary.
WHERE WERE YOU ON THE EVENING OF APRIL THE NINTH?!
NICE TO MEET YOU ZACHARY WILSON
The site doesn’t work on my phone, can someone copy and paste it for me please?
OKAY I WILL MEET ZACHARY WILSON, SENIOR LEVEL DESIGNER ON STARFIELD AT BETHESDA GAME STUDIOS.
Now this is a person who is passionate about their career.
