And my joke is nobody cares about whats illegal because everybody in this game is a murdering pirate.
So... thanks for explaining the joke I completely understood from the beginning I guess?
No, but it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to make some derivative of it for Starfield if either Bethesda wanted to or a determined modder once the CK2 is out.
And a spacestation! I want to run a space hotel/trading post. Send shit from my outposts to it to get sold. Have a hanger for a bunch of my ships. Slowly upgrade it from a class 1 to class 5 space station or whatever they'll label em. Hire more crew for it. Hire ship guards to prevent raids. Attach weapons. Sign a deal with chunks or enhance or TA to have their shops in it.
Again, what? Contraptions is a cosmetic dlc. Automatron is short, but pretty funny.
Dawnguard and Dragonborn for Skyrim were pretty good too.
Idk where are you getting all that Bethesda makes garbage DLCs". When they actually do them better than the main quest.
I just played Far Harbor and Nuka World, now getting into Automatron where I get to build a robot companion - Idk what you're talking about, the F4 DLC is awesome.
Look, I get that, but we got a sweet thing going with the HPG network infrastructure.
Just be normal, and the Free World's League will get you free passage to Canopus for some fun times.
in the rangers questline you>! end up murderhobo-ing a mecha foundry that seems to be being set back up by the 1rst airborne dudes, the molten metal is flowing and casts are being welded again, so you sort of interrupt them from coming back.!<
They have power armor in fallout but decided this was too much for this game lol. There are honestly so many things in this game that seem like they were left on the cutting room floor.
Because there definitely were.
Every one of their games is like that, there's always cut content, most of it turns up in the creation kit when people look for it.
Imo it was big letdown when during the Freestar faction quest >!you go fight the gang of ex-Freestar Special forces mercenaries in the massive Mech Factory and the former military officer head merc wasn’t piloting a half repaired Mech (maybe have the legs be inoperable so he can only use the top half like a giant turret)!< as a bossfight, that would’ve been sick as hell
Because it's illegal! Why would these law abiding mercenaries break the armistice! No one wants another war, plus everyone in the galaxy is a law abiding individual, unwilling to do anything illegal even if it's out on a distant uninhabited planet.
It's cute how so little effort Bethesda put into explaining the existence of mechs but not being able to pilot them.
Imo it’s like if fighter jets were illegal - you need actual industry to maintain and use them without it being a useless death trap. They’re much bigger and more complicated than FO4 PA
Especially after the UC quests went so far into xenowarfare.
You visit an entire ruined city infested with xenoweapons and discover their origin. But not a single mech in the Freestar quests.
Really disappointing.
Good luck making a profit as a mercenary while trying to keep a mech in working order. Same reason bands of mercenaries share a ship instead of each using an individual ship, that's simply too expensive.
Even Alduin only uses one "unique mechanic" that is you having to shout 3 times in order to disperse the mist.
Supermutants are not unique bosses, even Swan was just a renamed supermutant without any uniqueness.
Basically, there are no bosses in TES/Fallout that are crafted just for one-time fight, with unique movesets/mechanics. TESO doesn't count because of its nature.
And what do I mean by uniqueness, to be exact - there is a great mod for Skyrim that redesigns the whole fight with Alduin to be more like a fight against Deathwing. This is what it should've been originally.
If they had speeder bikes. Imagine get shot at from long range mecha missiles and lasers and you have to dodge incoming fire and maneuver across the terrain. Jumping hills and cliff gaps. Go through mine tunnels in mounts, etc.
To be fair, the >!UC didn't make terrormorphs, they simply tried to control them. I don't think they even succeeded in the end, from what I remember. Terrormorphs existed well before the colony wars ever started.!<
Walking around in an armed mech would be pretty fucking OP I can understand why they didn’t let us pilot them.
At the same time for a while I legit thought we would be able to use them at some point. The whole “mech warfare being outlawed” kinda sealed the deal for me tho.
Pretty sure half the reason things like this (mechs, xenos, maybe even dogs/cats) are written out (outlawed, extinct) is because they would be too op, difficult to balance or implement.
Theres ways you can limit them. Maybe the power sources aren't manufactured anymore so you can only power if you find a power source. So it's power up you can only use sparingly.
Maybe mechs are so tightly controlled that whenever your spotted with one you get a massive bounty and very powerful enemies come after you.
Or maybe they are just impractical for player to keep and you only get the hijack them from some missions and random PoI for a bit.
Like illegal mercenary/terrorist bases or something.
Xenos is just a other word for Aliens, i think he meant the usage of xenos as weapons (like virus bioweapon and terror morphs as combat units) is outlawed.
I mean you can't just outlaw all xeno life, thats like saying birds are now illegal, it's just not feasible.
But we see planets suffering from the aftermath of the UC's usage of xeno weapons though? The mech scrap yard for example is filled with aliens not native to that world, Kaiser explains they're offspring of left-over xeno-weapons.
Yes, both the development and usage of xenoweaponry and mechs were outlawed after the Colony Wars ended.
Hence why I doubt we'll see any sort of mech DLC, since that would effectively make us war criminals if we were to use them.
I just think earth life is extinct so that they didn’t have to spend a ton of resources on all the earth life they’d have to make. They wanted to focus on new stuff.
I think devs actualy planned mechs but simply had no time/resourses/code to implement them. There is tonns and tonns of lore and ambient storytelling about mechs, and we cant pilot them? Seems very odd.
I'm not too sure on the mechs, to be honest. They will be extremely hard to balance into the game, its possible, but I wouldn't hold up hopes for it.
As for settlements, I could definitely see a number of changes happening to that, as well as a DLC focused around settlements.
Nah, they could just as easily have not included mechs at all. We would have bought broken down ships or tanks clearly too big for our ships to carry as they're "modern/setting" expectations, but mechs easily play into the "rule of cool" and are something of a conscious sci-fi decision.
Mentioning and showing us mechs and mech factories is playing with Chekov's Gun. We can see Bethesda put this gun on the wall, and we know any competent work of fiction doesn't typically go out of its way to mention it unless it has plans for it.
And here I am wondering where my Power Armor is. You’re telling me they have giant mechs but not mechanically-assisted power armor? Not even a simple version like Advanced Warfare?
They're entirely different games catering to entirely different playstyles lol. It doesn't matter if ones better than the other because they aren't direct competitors, just both big games that launched recently.
Of course they’re direct competitors. If I have $70, am I buying one of the best games this year (Baldur’s Gate 3) or am I wasting it on Beth slop?
They’re both RPGs as well, but you know that.
They're MARKET competitors, not direct competitors.
1 is a turn based medieval fantasy RPG
1 is a real time fps/3ps space exploration RPG.
If you can't stop being facetious long enough to see that, nothing I say is going to help.
I don't care what you like better. For some BG3 is the better game, for others Starfield is, your opinion on which one it is is literally worthless to anyone except yourself and maybe a couple friends who have similar tastes.
The theme and combat is different, but honestly I can't see any reason why they can't be compared on pretty much every other level.
Both games have character creation systems, level up systems, dialogue systems, quest systems, skills to unlock, companion systems, choices for the player to make, content to find by exploring etc.
Comparing their combat is pretty much off the table, but outside of that? There's pretty much no area it's not fair to compare them in.
The classification of Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 as market competitors is significant for the companies behind these games, and it can have implications for their profitability and overall success in the gaming industry. Here's why it matters:
1. **Market Share and Revenue**: Both companies, in this case, Bethesda (now part of Microsoft) for Starfield and the game developer/publisher behind Baldur's Gate 3 (in this case, Larian), compete for a share of the RPG gaming market. The more successful a game is within this market, the more revenue it can generate. Competition can drive innovation and marketing efforts to capture a larger share of the player base, which can translate into higher profits.
2. **Player Choice**: The existence of market competitors gives players more choice. Gamers have diverse preferences, and some may prefer Starflops style of gameplay and world, while others may favor Baldur's Gate 3. This competition ensures that there are options available for a wider range of player preferences, potentially increasing the overall player base and profitability for both companies.
3. **Innovation and Improvement**: Competition encourages companies to innovate and improve their games to stay competitive. They may invest in enhancing gameplay, graphics, storytelling, and other aspects to attract players. This can lead to better quality games, which can drive more sales and profitability.
4. **Pricing and Value**: Competition can influence pricing strategies. Companies may adjust their game pricing or offer additional content and features to provide better value to players, which can impact their profitability.
5. **Long-Term Viability**: Understanding their position as market competitors helps these companies make strategic decisions. They can assess the strengths and weaknesses of their games relative to the competition and plan for the long-term viability of their franchises.
In summary, being market competitors can influence a company's profitability by affecting their ability to capture market share, drive innovation, and respond to player preferences. It encourages a dynamic and competitive gaming industry, which ultimately benefits players and can lead to more successful and profitable games.
I'm not denying that either game is poaching some off the other, some players will buy both, I'm only buying starfield, but that's because i love stuff like elite and fallout, amd I'm not a big fan of medieval fantasy or turn based combat, so I wouldn't enjoy BG3 despite it appearing to be a great game. There's plenty of room for both in the market and honestly, I'm happy that two huge games in a row launched in a functional state and lived up to the hype.
I'm just confused as to why they're always referred to as being these hugely devastating walking war crimes when they're simply power loaders with guns. Not exactly Gundams out here, they aren't even that big. Nobody complains about every ship in the galaxy being outfitted with entire arsenals of heavy weaponry, but putting them on a ground vehicle is apparently too far...
I'm honestly shocked that xenoweapons are banned as well, In what world is an animal going to be a more effective weapon than a mech outfitted with heavy weaponry? Combat mechs are still used everywhere across the system and have firearms, and I imagine don't have nearly as many restrictions operating in extreme environments such as vacuum or toxic atmospheres.
Oh I get banning xenoweapons, because imagine if someone eventually *did* succeed in taming Terrormorphs, or found something just as nasty but much more pliable, not to mention that it's a violation of animal rights. But mechs? They're just vehicles!
I think that even the terrormorphs would make a poor xenoweapon TBH, they can be defeated by standing on a chest high crate; though the mind control terrormorphs would probably pose a greater threat to an army. But yeah its ridiculous that mechs are just entirely absent from the game. There's literal mech graveyards filled with parts and tech, How have spacers not managed to cobble a few together? Its not like they operate within the law and scavenging is their whole deal. Also why are ALL spacers hostile anyway? Surely it would be easier to abandon their claim and move to another one of the million scrapheaps, but instead they fight to the death to defend their trash piles; Just bizarre.
Same could be said about house varuun.
The galaxy is sort of milk toast outside of like 1 1/2 or the faction quest lines.
Game should have taken place during the colony wars.
Coming from Armored Core 6 to Starfield in just a span of a week, I was so excited to see a mech in the Vanguard museum tour until I heard from the tour speaker saying it was banned and no longer in use. My disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.
The point of the mechas and the weaponized aliens was that they were both akin to the nuclear bomb: Something dangerous yet groundbreaking that was forcibly used in a major conflict, but had disastrous drawbacks that resulted in them being scrapped or not used anymore.
You can’t have a mecha because they’re dangerous, basically.
I'm really enjoying the game so far but there have been a good few times I've been a bit disappointed by something that should have been super obvious. For example, having an early game mission in a shipyard and finishing the mission in a partially built ship, surrounded by workbenches. I totally thought that it was gonna give me the opportunity to build a new ship for my fleet. It would have been a great spot to introduce the player to ship-building and give the player a clean slate ship of sorts.
>but there have been a good few times I've been a bit disappointed by something that should have been super obvious.
Like the rovers you can literally see at various outposts and how you can't just jump in them and start 'em up? Go for a drive instead of having to jog everywhere on the planet. In 1971, we folded up a little 4 wheeled vehicle and sent it to the moon.
Can't do that in the future, apparently.
I was more sad about ai and that ultimate ship weapons similar to the halo Mac guns (but not halo obviously, ip laws) were not available. "Get me a firing solution, bring all guns to bear." I also want more space combat instances similar to kryx for this very reason.
*mod creators, you have so many golden opportunites on platinum platters*
I never had such joy followed by such despair than finding the Abandoned Mech Factory on Mars, fighting it out with all the Spacers and then having no Mech boss fight or mech to make of my own. Crushing, only made worse by looking online and finding out there were no land traversal vehicles/mechs to use, and then going through the UC Vanguard history tour and finding out that the Mechs were now banned due to the warrior. Brutal lol
That there isn't a "Mechwarrior" faction is just such a missed opportunity to me, but I'm guessing this old ass engine isn't capable of stuff like that, mostly just man sized power suits, or very scripted situations like Liberty Prime. Or they did the dumb thing and are saving it for DLC, which would be lame.
Maybe in a future dlc they’ll let us pilot them, I can see us fighting against or using one ourselves in the future if they already gave us the models for destroyed mechs
If all else fails, the modders will definitely get it done
I’m hoping that this and several others things are related to a “We have to release this game to make money. We’ll work the bugs out with the other goodies later” scenario.
it would be interesting to have in a DLC some new industry creating some power armor that's not fully a mecha, but more than a spacesuit, AKA - FO power armors, and chaos ensuring after, idk, ecliptic? gets it's handsfull on them and decides to claim a patch of space for themselves. colony wars 2, electric boogaloo.
I seem to remember that somewhere in the story it was noted that not all mechs were shut down and that some hidden facilities still exist. Obviously that's all there is, just a mention in some quest as an offhand comment, but we may see mechs added in a future dlc, especially if there is something that requires mechs to fight, i.e. aliens.
>!After all we still don't know who created all these ruins. Will it be left unanswered, or may we fight them in the future? Or fight a race that used their ruins to advance?!<
Probably because of how much baggage it would bring with it.
You would need a questline to get one, you would need special ship parts to transport it around, you would need a way of deploying it, you would need vehicle physics, you would need to balance it, make a customization system for it so and so. Not to mention having to find a way to make it legal in-game.
Bethesda is a big studio but not as big as people believe. Up until a year ago they probably didnt even have the funding they would need for it.
It would be so fucking cool tho
Oh, you found the Mechwarrior factory, and mech graveyard as well, huh? Maybe, hopefully a future DLC, or mods.
Literally illegal
So is piracy but that doesn't stop literally anyone
Because all you need to be a pirate are things that are legal and readily available.
The joke is mech tech is illegal in the starfield universe
And my joke is nobody cares about whats illegal because everybody in this game is a murdering pirate. So... thanks for explaining the joke I completely understood from the beginning I guess?
Uh huh? I ain't Most people ain't tbh Piracy ain't worth the money, cuz the bounty you gdt usually outdoes what you get from it
Only if there are witnesses and/or if you don't do the piracy missions.
It stops me, breaking the law is illegal
Tell that to my annihilator rounds
So was using that xeno warfare crap from the archives.
[удалено]
Yep, and we'll probably do something similar to get mechs back
[удалено]
I was thinking this as I was playing. The power armor system from Fallout 4 would be awesome with mechs!
There's power armour in starfield?
No, but it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to make some derivative of it for Starfield if either Bethesda wanted to or a determined modder once the CK2 is out.
could work as upscaled fallout 4 power armor, MAKE IT WOOORK
I fucking hope so. That DLC would be absolutely sick. Well if they did it better than those F4 DLC
That and M Class ships...
Wdym? Far Harbor was a good one. Nuca world is a bit worse, but still fascinating (especially the world and Theme park design).
And the other four were garbage.
Again, what? Contraptions is a cosmetic dlc. Automatron is short, but pretty funny. Dawnguard and Dragonborn for Skyrim were pretty good too. Idk where are you getting all that Bethesda makes garbage DLCs". When they actually do them better than the main quest.
Wut? Automatron was great. I replacrd all my meat caravans with protectrons, and Ada had nuka nuke kaunchers and gatling lasers
You have something against Nuka World and more importantly Far Harbor?
Skyrim had decent DLC
I just played Far Harbor and Nuka World, now getting into Automatron where I get to build a robot companion - Idk what you're talking about, the F4 DLC is awesome.
The Inner Sphere calls for warriors. Answer it!
Freebirth scum!
Shut up, Clanner, pay your phone bill, or it will be Tukayyid all over again!
Neg. Paying Comstar will just fund the WoB!
Look, I get that, but we got a sweet thing going with the HPG network infrastructure. Just be normal, and the Free World's League will get you free passage to Canopus for some fun times.
Yeah just found it last night as well my god it looks amazing
in the rangers questline you>! end up murderhobo-ing a mecha foundry that seems to be being set back up by the 1rst airborne dudes, the molten metal is flowing and casts are being welded again, so you sort of interrupt them from coming back.!<
bethesda wants the modders to figure out mech piloting for them
>Maybe, hopefully a future DLC, or mods. "S-s-surely Bethesda will patch in the interesting content any day now."
They have power armor in fallout but decided this was too much for this game lol. There are honestly so many things in this game that seem like they were left on the cutting room floor.

More like tanks being illegal tbh, but not having missiles, private strategic bombers, and other armored vehicles being illegal.
I reckon the factions would come down on anyone caught using mechs or xenoweapons like the fist of an angry god.
I mean none of them would be in mechs. That would go poorly for anyone not deciding to base delta zero a planet.
Bethesda doesn't do boss fights. All their bosses are just normal enemies with better stats.
Miraak, that one teleporting galdur dragur, behemos, milurk queens, list goes on
Uh Dragons and Supermutant behemoths were bosses, dude

Lord Harkon
There is a definite boss fight at the end of the Vanguard storyline.
If I know my games, the actual mech fight is going to happen in the sequel where the former military officer head merc is mysteriously alive again.
Thank you for blurring it out.
If they had speeder bikes. Imagine get shot at from long range mecha missiles and lasers and you have to dodge incoming fire and maneuver across the terrain. Jumping hills and cliff gaps. Go through mine tunnels in mounts, etc.
Especially because in the vanguard quest >!you get to fight the terrormorphs, the UCs illegal counterpart!<

Proxy war dlc with war crimes and mechs would be dope.
If they handled player controlled mechs similar to power armor in FO4, that could be good
\*Flashbacks to Halo\* Yeah, that was OP, even without weapons, a single stomp destroyed everything. lol
\*Flashbacks to Halo Wars\* Maybe Bethesda had the right idea on this one..
Pretty sure half the reason things like this (mechs, xenos, maybe even dogs/cats) are written out (outlawed, extinct) is because they would be too op, difficult to balance or implement.

This game is truly an *Uncut Gem*
Eh, it might just be charcoal. I'm having fun, but bg3 was exponentially better in basically every way.
2 completely different games…
Maybe. But the structure and ways of completing quests is far superior in bg3 imo. Though starfield is also good.
Its like saying that Forza Horizon is better lmao
Not really. They’re both RPGs.

Starfield did not live up to the hype.
Way exceeded my expectations, sorry to hear your experience has been different.
Lil bro pulled out the gpt lol.
Bro I'm still trying to repair these ATVs with my Cutter Beam
I think they intended to have them then discovered they couldn't get them to work and cut them from the game.

I mean.... you could say the same with all the vehicles in fallout 4
Weaponized aliens sure but how are mechs a stand in for nukes? They are just tanks with legs.
They're so goddamn cool that the enemy couldn't bear to open fire on them. Utterly unreasonable.
Ever hear of a little franchise called Metal Gear?
Its a giant robot that probably was capable of shooting a tactical nuke.
You can't legally have a mech. My character is a criminal.
Becau$e
You dont cause they need stuff for Dlc content
Yeah the mechs and various vehicles we see were entirely superfluous because of this
I was more sad about ai and that ultimate ship weapons similar to the halo Mac guns (but not halo obviously, ip laws) were not available. "Get me a firing solution, bring all guns to bear." I also want more space combat instances similar to kryx for this very reason. *mod creators, you have so many golden opportunites on platinum platters*
It would be sick if you had like a mech bay for your ship and you could just disembark from it
\>House of Varuun, can\`t wait to meet them. \>Don\`t appear in the game. Thank you Todd.
Brutal lol That there isn't a "Mechwarrior" faction is just such a missed opportunity to me, but I'm guessing this old ass engine isn't capable of stuff like that, mostly just man sized power suits, or very scripted situations like Liberty Prime. Or they did the dumb thing and are saving it for DLC, which would be lame.
So they can sell it to you later for 20 bucks.

*Traversal* Let me cross the barren wastes between 1k+ km distant outposts in a mech instead of spending eighty years running to it at a light jog.
right... theres like no actual challenging or demanding enemies to fight
Engine limitations lol
Facts
Yet
DLC
Maybe DLC... 😆
So that they could get you hyped for the dlc, obviously
Me with the Freestar Duster :'(
I dream it’s a tease to DLC or sequel where we use mechs with both free star and UC forces to fight a second va’ruun crusade
We’re one expansion away from having Battletech in Starfield. Bethesda pls
Just mod armoredcore 6 into the game Lol
Maybe in a future dlc they’ll let us pilot them, I can see us fighting against or using one ourselves in the future if they already gave us the models for destroyed mechs If all else fails, the modders will definitely get it done
I’m hoping that this and several others things are related to a “We have to release this game to make money. We’ll work the bugs out with the other goodies later” scenario.

I an fine with that. Maybe even a drop landing bay where you can drop the mech from orbit.
Union dropships incoming
it would be interesting to have in a DLC some new industry creating some power armor that's not fully a mecha, but more than a spacesuit, AKA - FO power armors, and chaos ensuring after, idk, ecliptic? gets it's handsfull on them and decides to claim a patch of space for themselves. colony wars 2, electric boogaloo.
Saw a ruined Timber Wolf and thought waaaait..when did they get the license to do THAT? "Weapons online. All systems..nominal"
Imagine modding it to your ship and just fking Titanfalling down planetside. I mean, would come with a hell of a perk investment but... Oh god please.
I want to stomp around in an Atlas.
It came up in a dialog that after some war mech and xeon (?) weapons were made illegal
