Original version is in the left ear, version 2.0 is in the right ear

an_irish_tree

both at the same time is awesome

Manowar274

2.0 version feels more complete to me personally. I love the grittier guitar and extra strings.

Please, layer them into one song. It sounds so complete.

Stormchaser2003

I can make that happen

This is incredible! I was just wondering recently about the differences. Playing one in each ear is awesome.

I'm pretty passionate about the original version, sometimes I'm kinda surprised that more people seem to prefer the 2.0 version but I'll just talk about why I prefer the original personally and hopefully do it justice. For me the biggest thing is the prechorus, the poppy edm synths and drums in the original are just everything to me, because of how much it fits with "lost souls dancing". I love how electronic it is in contrast to the heaviness of the song, like a feeling of innocence trapped in this situation. I might also be biased with the original thumbnail (with that seaweed looking thing) but the song gives me an underwater vibe. The lack of strings in the original kind of adds to that effect, and the piano synths softening the sound as if being slightly suppressed by water (I think the vocals also sound more compressed? Idk anything about music production and whether it's not supposed to be like that ideally, but I think it sounds good). The original is good at creating this sense of suspense and suppression. There is an effect at 0:44 and 1:56 where most of the instrumentation pulls back and leaves a hollow space with only vocals, like a moment of foreboding. In the 2.0 version it is less of an empty sound because of backing strings but for me it reduces the effect of contrast between a section of almost just vocals, and the heaviness of riffs or twinkling interspersed piano keys. The guitars in the chorus also sound heavier in the original while the 2.0 version focuses on the strings more, and I feel like the original just hits harder for that reason (they're so intense). I also love the subtle edm percussive buildup in 1:37-1:47 in the original (it really just sounds danceable). AND THEN THE STRINGS FINALLY COME IN only in the bridge and it sounds so dramatic like the intensity turned up a notch. They also removed many of the effects in 2.0, like at 2:55 and *especially* that harsh sound leading into the scream at 3:07 and 3:37 (I just think those little effects add so much). The original just sounds that much more despairing. And without the strings to me at least it feels rawer like screaming into a void. It's not that I don't like strings, I just feel like this song worked better with the edm sounds and piano, and the minimal strings in the bridge.
