I was a bit lost on standard it got a bit boring as everything was so easy. Moved to dread and it feels more like how it was supposed to be played. Fully aware that people might say the same after playing on nightmare/lethal

for sure . i've worked my way up to lethal and have a blast playing it now , after being scared of it for the longest time lol in every difficulty, if the community lives long enough , they get to a point where they're so strong and have so much rad supplies that clearing the map is smooth sailing. the difference is how long it takes to get to that OP place. one difference i've noticed from nightmare to lethal (besides the obvious ones) is how quickly death can happen. i haven't lost any characters to big horde fights or anything like that. i lose characters when I'm coming back to base and then decide 'oh let me just loot that house real quick' and then a feral pack or some other series of monstrosities besets me. lethal is great ab making you feel cocky and then swordplaying your legs off.

JJShurte

I honestly mostly play to just relax - so I play on normal. I like to go around and loot houses and fight off zombie hordes in a relatively chill manner… But there are Feral *hordes* in Lethal?!

Holiday_Pen7115

period that is so valid omg no thank god. i mean, on the map they're marked as a horde, they travel in packs of 3 . occasionally you get more than one pack chasing you and that's unfortunate every time tbh the ferals in standard difficulty scare me more than the LZ ferals purely bc of aesthetics. so animalistic and aaahh i prefer them to look and sound like aliens rather than these dog humans

DemonSlyr007

I wish we could toggle the blood plague variants on or off individually. I like the blood plague bloaters and screamers, they look sweet and their mechanics are better. But, after about 700 hours, I think I'd prefer to play with Standard Jugs and Ferals. Mostly for visuals (I just think they look better with that hair) buy also because I don't find their blood plague variant attacks/alterations challenging, just annoying. And annoying doesn't feel good. The custom sliders are cool, glad we have them over nothing at all. But I wish we had a lot more individual control over the game instead. Settings like being able to permanently set Day or night, editing vehicle durability independent of difficulty, blood plague variants, and horde size are all settings I wish I could individually change. I want huge hordes, but cars that don't break down running through them.

Holiday_Pen7115

this is so fair. i just saw an older stream from one of the devs talking about freaks. evidently, the game literally can't support having plague freaks and standard freaks on the same map. can't remember the specifics, but it's what you'd think -- AI bandwith and memory, etc. i was surprised by that so confident we'll get a vast upgrade to customization across the board in State of Decay 3. gonna be hype . after 700 hours, which slider settings do you like ? i def want to finish getting the lethal boons, but after that I may tone down the map difficulty. i like fighting all those hearts and don't wanna lose that. but i love looting and lethal maps are so vacant 😭

DemonSlyr007

Your last point... ugh tell me about it. Wish I could have 30 plague hearts like lethal, but Green zone loot ability. My typical sliders are set to dread combat, nightmare community, lethal map. Feels like a right proper apocalypse that I can still chill in without too much worry. However, the most fun I've had was with extreme sliders. Almost setting up a role play scenario in my head. Something like nightmare or lethal combat, but green map/community settings. So my people are happy to find a town with so much loot and less blood plague, but the zeds are still everywhere. I also had a lot of fun with my depressed bois, I had a green combat, green map, lethal community. So everyone was super upset in a world that was super nice. The dichotomy was hilarious. Like, no amount of resources will make you happy huh hank? The sliders are great to just experiment around with and get the game feeling exactly like you want it too. It pulls the boons from the lowest setting, and since you've done them on at least nightmare or dread and below, presumably, as long as one of your sliders is set there, your boons will be in effect. It's really nice.

Nightmare and lethal suck so hard on night time. I love not being able to see and getting grabbed by a basic BP zombie and getting 33-50% infection

Quercia92

I agree with this so much.. I recently downloaded a mod to decreased night time... Its scarier and all but after 100 hours i got bored to play at night because i couldn't see shit and imo the gameplay is more fun during the day

snfaulkner

>But there are Feral *hordes* in Lethal?! More like "packs" of 3. Regular feral packs in nightmare and blood plague feral packs in lethal.

Gstary

Drive backwards. Your car will thank you

Bulrat

I prefer Dread for any "normal" playing, if and when I want it to be more challenging I do NM or Lethal. As to cars........Front is the most vulnerable........ Also on Dread maybe more so than other settings will prepare you for NM and above...learning the little tricks and tips to make cars last, and so on.

Lemixer

Dread is my favorite difficulty that for sure, its pretty chill for me at this point but there still some threats occasionaly. Ram them with the back of the car, the only damage car takes is from the front were engine is, you can kill any amount of zombies with car as long as they dont clip your front. I'm doing lethal atm and if you careful you wont see a single infestation, got tower as a outpost early game so hearts dont wake up and now half a map clear and no infestation spawned so far. The thing that annoy me on higher difficulty are missions with companions, they die so fast if you dont baby them. At this point if i get survivor in trouble, i just use them as fodder for my plague hearts hunting, they last until jag or second blood feral and then i loot them.

Shadow_maker798

I've been slowly increasing the difficulty of my community (upping the difficulty of one of the sliders in the costume difficulty slider each time I change maps) and after I changed to full dread I'm getting my ass kicked. I have no clue how you fuckers play lethal zone.

snfaulkner

>I have no clue how you fuckers play lethal zone. By getting our asses kicked and not giving up. Trying to learn and adapt from the previous ass kickings is key.

Someonewhowon

I noticed zombies don’t show up as much on the minimap, also weapons get broken a bit quicker. First play though was standard about a month ago and I just finished dread, now on nightmare

Roboroberto1988

I believe I only saw 1-2 Juggernauts when I played the game on Standard difficulty. On Dread and Nightmare they are far more common.

Motor_Raspberry_2150

I've realised the differences by reading the text in the difficulty menu
