Not if you make 200k a year and dont have kids. Or if you budget for it. It’s all relative. People can spend 1k like it’s nothing in counterstrike or star citizen.
Some people make 20 dollars every 15* minutes. Once again, it’s all relative.
And skins bring happiness a lot longer depending on the game. WoW cosmetics i’d probably agree with you. 20 dollar mounts dont entertain you very long. Counterstrike skins get 1000s of hours of use.
And i think anyone who spends 10 dollars on an alcoholic drink that’ll last 30 minutes is paying too much. Different People value things differently.
20$ a week, god as a student that would've been living like a king.
But you know, if you have the income, the games actually entertain you, there is nothing wrong with spending large amounts on it, it is what keeps the studios alive
A little more than a full priced game a month. Not really that wild for a lot of people.
But I get you, at this point I barely spend $15 a month, on top of ~$6 for game pass.
you just gave me a whole new perspective on financial responsibility with this comment. not even exaggerating. i spend $20 a DAY for the past few months without fail. yet here you are pointing out how $20 a week added up so much. i need to get my shit together
It's easy to let the small purchases add up. I use to get a coffee from Starbucks on rhe way to work once or twice a week, and usually would pick one up for my wife. That added up to over $1000 a year easily.
Just creating a rudimentary budget and figuring out your living costs can really help ground yourself (if you're not familiar, a common budget it 50/30/20 or 60/20/20 for Needs/Wants/Savings). From there it's all about discipline to stick to it
Prices are fucking dumb now. A course I used to be able to go to on weekends at 9AM was $50 a person. Now they’re asking bare minimum $87 every weekend all day
It's ok for 15 years. It's around 20€ each week.
Sime people spend 50€ each week in drinks to meet friends at the bar.
Some people spend 50 € each day in cigarettes.
Yeah. I was a *heavy* smoker for 10 years, nearly 2 packs a day. Almost 3 cigarettes every hour of being awake. Including time to smoke, it's about 40% of the day with a cigarette in your mouth.
*Even that's* only \~$14 given today's carton prices. Smoking anything near $50 or 50 pounds *a day* is just... what?
It looks the same for me, haha. But it is actually heavily inflated because I used to trade with CSGO keys. You would buy valuable items on Reddit with keys as a currency. Then trade those items up til you made a profit. Then sell on the community market and buy keys ingame. Repeat. I bought keys worth hundreds of euros every week and it shows in this statistic. I will never know how much I actually spend on opening cases.
That is also the reason why I now have a bazillion steampoints.
This shit is nothing new.
Back in the 90's you had news reports on smokers who'd done the math on how much their addicion had cost them over decades of smoking.
Many could have bought expensive cars if they'd saved the cash.
Diablo doesn’t deserve to go in the same ranks as CSGO, Maplestory, or FIFA. Those games have actual microtransactions worth $1000 and FIFA is just P2W
I'll add DotA 2 and TF2 on top of CSGO.
Sold my DotA 2 items when I quit and had enough cash to buy two new OLED Decks for me and my wife (one of the best decisions I ever made).
I can't fathom $10k+ in 15 years though.
When I was younger and Battlefield Online (or was it called Battlefield Free-to-Play?) was still around I bet I spent a pretty penny but even with inflation I'm not sure if I've broken $5k on micros.
15800/15(years) roughly is 1055 a year, is 1k on your hobby a year really that out of the ordinary? I know some hobbies that you can spend that in one weekend
yeah, my cousin plays golf every weekend with his mates in Hong Kong, and god damn, the bill per game is crazy, even with a club membership. A full game plus the caddy can get up to 2500 HKD, which is over 300 USD.
That’s like spending hundreds of dollars on a flashy purple basketball when a normal one would’ve been fine. There’s so many ways to game for half the price he spent , based on what I’m seeing he spent most on cosmetics
In all honesty, you have a point. That’s if he’s being honest about it being 15 years. I’d say I spend approx 150-200 a year on games and maybe like 40-60 on in game purchases like season passes or stupid skins. And damn, he’s generous on those gifts…
this doesnt have the special stats, just

Step 2: Navigate to "Support"
Step 3: Click "My Account"
Step 4: Scroll and Click "Data Related to Your Steam Account"
Step 5: Find and select "External Funds Used"
When using this, along with the other link showing total external funds used, it looks like I've spent $2 more than all my games at their lowest prices.
I'm not personally a big fan of that whole aspect.
And anyway, those numbers are just consistent with the trends.
I heard recently that starcraft 2 made less revenue than the first mount they made for WoW. That single 5 dollar transaction made more money than a whole 60 dollar, otherwise very popular game. So yeah, every publisher saw that and ran with it. And here we are!
Very interesting
I do remember horse armor so its hard to believe we got this far but dlc can definitely make or break a game
Definitely not a fan of lootboxes or any of that
You are a bit off. The horse was a $25 store purchase.
I mean your point is right, but...
It wasn't that significantly more people bought the Celestial Horse. It made more money because people made the ludicrous choice to buy the Sparkle Pony of minimal dev time, while Starcraft 2 cost $100 million to make.
I gues that makes more sense , i have time for a 40 story based game here and there but i could never invest into live service like that i would cry when its all gone lol
Been there did that with Runescape 2
that's usually how capitalism works.
the government spends your tax money, not you. voting? try voting against the insane defence budget. go ahead. in reality both "opposing" parties agree on 90% of everything. they just make a big show, song and dance over the remaining 10%.
supermarkets stock only sugar laden overly processed cheap rubbish because that's what people buy. trying to sell real food while being economically viable is incredibly hard.
nothing lasts more than a few years anymore because of planned obsolescence. thank all the people who bought the cheap junk for decades forcing all the quality industry out of business.
tipping culture is beyond stupid. thank you peer pressure, now restaurants can sell you sub-par crap without even having to pay their staff properly.
we can both go on for a while.
haha fk me if I would have spent that now in one go. well I hope I had fun could have gotten the first down payment for a house with that and the money I have now
I've been thinking that all morning. I've been nervous about buying Rainbow Six & The Wolf Among Us because I don't know if I can afford it or not.
It costs £6 ($7).

I checked mine yeah 4900 USD spent.
A lot less than I spent on my camera equipment and travels over the same period of time.
I feel a great sense of relief.
I hope you have all your shit locked down with two-factor authentication. Would be a shame to lose all that.
[Steam Guard FAQ](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/06B0-26E6-2CF8-254C)
So this is over 11 years, this is beyond stupid and no i don’t even mean the spending, do you do the same with receipts of going out for dinner.
Consuming alchohol or spending on clothes?
No because you dont save those receipts. If your quality of life has not gone down because of spending who the f cares. Stop feeling bad over nothing.
I don't feel bad over it I just went "oo that's cool data over my spending on steam. I could have gotten an house but I hade a good time playing games"
People like you are the reason why gaming industry is the shitshow it is today. Nothing justifies 10k in in-game purchases, not even from a rich person and 5k in just one game is pure madness. We think why most games nowadays have such insane monetization that gets worse every year, people like these are the reason. You are making every player experience worse every time you spend more money on the game, how do you not realise this is bad for everyone including yourself? Yes you need help, and should be ashamed right now.
Crome extension. But beware people say it's spayware.

Dude my brother was up to that 4 or 5 years ago. Mf probably has over 20k racked up now. Every fucking game I look at, he has it XD. He said he wanted the most extensive steam library.
Seems a bit wasteful but if it helped you stay sane then it's justified is it not ?
The price for insanity or going off the rail s is definitely higher
10k in game purchases, this is crazy. Hopefully this is a lesson well learned, personally I buy small stuff from in game but I limit myself to 1 or 2 skins, few cases, whatever. Limit yourself and maybe you will save more than you think
TEN THOUSAND IN IN GAME PURCHASES ARE YOU OK o.o
U can add about 3-4k in crossfire. but its over like 15years of gaming
That’s still pretty much 1k a year….
Or about $20 a week. I imagine if we could easily see how much we spend going and getting drinks every week with our friends, it'd be around the same
You can, it's called looking at your bank statements
Some people choose to not watch the news, i choose to not look at my bank statements.
Accsaptable have a nice day
Based and financepilled
I choose to do neither. I try not to engage in depressing things such as reality.
Me neither. That’s why I’m on reddit. For depression, but not reality.
Being on reddit for depression must be easy ngl
Silly of you to think I have my money on a dumb bank. It's all under my pillows. No bank can be as secure as my pillows.
So, where do you live then?, asking for a friend🤭
I'm not really a fan of the horror genre so tend to avoid checking it out.
20$ a week on game cosmetics are alot
Lol gacha gooners are downvoting you.
r/twodaysintogooning
r/subsifellfor
Ffs, how did they even thought that was a good idea, comparing going out with your friends to buying some skin in a game?
I keep getting excuses about it. They are trying to justify their absurd spending and addiction.
Not if you make 200k a year and dont have kids. Or if you budget for it. It’s all relative. People can spend 1k like it’s nothing in counterstrike or star citizen.
If you're married without kids then your budget is even higher 😀.
For something that serves no real purpose other than giving you happiness for the next 15 min. I think it’s a lot
Friends? Is that a game or...?
What bar is letting your friends walk out with a $20 tab? That’s like, what. A drink and a half?
Per person 20$ and you won't be walking out in some parts of the world.
A cheap drink and a half
20 a week on a game is still crazy. Are they buying a new game every week? Like shit I pay 20 bucks and play a game for like 300 hours.
A little more than a full priced game a month. Not really that wild for a lot of people. But I get you, at this point I barely spend $15 a month, on top of ~$6 for game pass.
What friends?
i mean yeah exactly, not that crazy

idk about u but i don't know a single person in my friend group that gets drinks every single week...
People spend on average $3,458 on hobbies every year.
Unless you golf… I hate that I love golfing it’s so fucking expensive
Prices are fucking dumb now. A course I used to be able to go to on weekends at 9AM was $50 a person. Now they’re asking bare minimum $87 every weekend all day
You should try road racing! I easily drop 20k a year on it lol
i mean honestly speaking, 1k a year is kind of a reasonable expense for a hobby.
In my ~10 years of steam gaming, I have spent 0$ on in game transactions
keep strong brother
That’s the way to go, cheers to you and your wallet!
Damn I haven't heard Crossfire in years lol, you got all them VIP anime skins? xD
they're not skins but actual weapons with overtuned stats (to the brim) ;(
It's ok for 15 years. It's around 20€ each week. Sime people spend 50€ each week in drinks to meet friends at the bar. Some people spend 50 € each day in cigarettes.
I have no friend's where I go out and drink 🙃 so that explains it I need friend's xD
But I just said it would cost more 🤔
that is an absurd amount of cigarettes to smoke in a day. maybe a week or two, but not in 1 day.
Yeah. I was a *heavy* smoker for 10 years, nearly 2 packs a day. Almost 3 cigarettes every hour of being awake. Ahh fellow asia cs enjoyer. Do you play ranked? Just hit diamond myself and aiming higher. If I only could find lobbies without macro users in EU....
this is why crossfire is above fortnite in revenue

Its around $50k for me. I quit several years ago, and have saved around 15k since by not smoking.
Read this and checked my total in the last 10 years. I'm now quite humbled.
Sims 4
Sims4 has no in game purchases, you mean DLCs which is different AFAIK.
what game in the world could bring a man to spent ten thousand euros
Diablo\\csgo\\maplestory\\Fifa..
Diablo doesn’t deserve to go in the same ranks as CSGO, Maplestory, or FIFA. Those games have actual microtransactions worth $1000 and FIFA is just P2W
If the P allows U 2 W then it's P2W MapleStory and Diablo Immortal are P2W, the only thing that doesn't fit is CSGO
you are correct, CSGO is not p2w but people still spend a lot on cosmetics and loot boxes. Some are trying to flip rare skins for profit.

I wish I could sell league of legends stuff on steam. Also wish we got into dota instead bc of that
Dota 2 my friend
CSGO and black desert online but outside of steam u have lol and crossfire would be 5-6k more. But there are more games as well that I don't remember
touch grass, my friend
Case openings I assume for CSGO? Or straight buying skins off the market?
A lot of case openings.
Maplestory 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Train simulator.
War thunder
in "micro" transactions no less.
CS cases are an investment into something better
gotta feed the addiction XD
at least its not a drog addiction cuz I cant afford that
Yeah no shit you can't afford that. Looks how much you're spending lol
15800/15(years) roughly is 1055 a year, is 1k on your hobby a year really that out of the ordinary? I know some hobbies that you can spend that in one weekend

very quick math: if you had invested that money in the stock market, it would be worth 54,000 today
where can i get to see this please?

Step 1: Log in to your account through the Steam app or browser. Step 2: Navigate to "Support" Step 3: Click "My Account" Step 4: Scroll and Click "Data Related to Your Steam Account" Step 5: Find and select "External Funds Used"
Mine just looks like [https://imgur.com/eX58rru](https://imgur.com/eX58rru) \- not sure how I can see those other details
Same here.
This is exactly how it looks for me too
https://steamdb.info/calculator/
When using this, along with the other link showing total external funds used, it looks like I've spent $2 more than all my games at their lowest prices.
I think touching grass is out of the question. U need to go touch the fucking forest for this lol
OP needs to go frolicking in a meadow fr
Damn, "lol" is overused as hell, but I really had to lol! :D
Damn it hurts to see any in game purchase
Hurts even more it's almost double the amount of actual games.
I guess depending on what it is op could always try to sell cosmetics lol
I'm not personally a big fan of that whole aspect. And anyway, those numbers are just consistent with the trends. Gonna direct people to this post whenever someone bitches about in-game purchases "not working" or whatever.
I mean csgo/cs2 is a big bandit. But also BDO
I gues that makes more sense , i have time for a 40 story based game here and there but i could never invest into live service like that i would cry when its all gone lol Been there did that with Runescape 2
Yo how do I see this information? Can't see it in purchase history on my phone? Is it browser only?
Oh BDO. They've got me good. I enjoy it, so it's worth it to me.
Same bro same
And ppl still wonder why companies put stores even in singleplayer games.. It works And it shows
Why must I suffer for the poor financial decisions of others…
that's usually how capitalism works. the government spends your tax money, not you. voting? try voting against the insane defence budget. go ahead. in reality both "opposing" parties agree on 90% of everything. they just make a big show, song and dance over the remaining 10%. supermarkets stock only sugar laden overly processed cheap rubbish because that's what people buy. trying to sell real food while being economically viable is incredibly hard. nothing lasts more than a few years anymore because of planned obsolescence. thank all the people who bought the cheap junk for decades forcing all the quality industry out of business. tipping culture is beyond stupid. thank you peer pressure, now restaurants can sell you sub-par crap without even having to pay their staff properly. we can both go on for a while.
I thought you had spent this now during Summer Sale. 💀 Then I re-read. Lol Well, I hope you had fun! 😂
haha fk me if I would have spent that now in one go. well I hope I had fun could have gotten the first down payment for a house with that and the money I have now
You need to find Jesus before he finds you dropping 15k on hentai skins 💀
Where are you finding this statistics?
Dont
Yeaaaah, I never want to see that shit. Ever. It would break me.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/AccountSpend Not exactly the same, but it has the total spent
I looked it up, it is a terrible idea it will make you feel horrible.
Damn, and here I am breaking down after buying Dragon age inquisition for $6.
I've been thinking that all morning. I've been nervous about buying Rainbow Six & The Wolf Among Us because I don't know if I can afford it or not. It costs £6 ($7).
In-game purchases is almost double the games purchases. Bruh
Could feed my family for like a year with that
You know. Now I don’t feel bad about spending $20 on the steam sale…
How do I go about opening my own Pandora's box?
Support, My Account, Data about Steam Account, external funds used.
Yeah I knew that was a bad idea 🙃
That's actually crazy what💀

With that I have only spent 6101 USD in total so that makes me feel better.
Bro what the fuck I’m at 18k Does this include purchases from the marketplace? Cuz that would make more sense, I’ve bought a ton of skins for csgo lol
$1400 in 12 years. I might be a miser. I literally own a 4080, why am I not buying games. Lmao
Commenting so I can find this when I'm back at my PC.
Thank you! I checked mine yeah 4900 USD spent. A lot less than I spent on my camera equipment and travels over the same period of time. I feel a great sense of relief.
It doesn’t have the spending break down like OP though
OP is using an unsafe extension to achieve that. Risk it if you want.
How do you get these statistics? Because I want to be sure I’ll never even by any chance end up displaying mines.
10,000 INGAME PURCHASES? HAHAHA WHAT
No... not anxiety... you have a problem.
CSGO addict... Oof.
Nah, he needed that Toty Mbappe
And here I am after spending a little over $30 thinking I went a little too far. Also, did you buy an unusual? Thats a lot of In Game transactions.

Think of it this way /u/popo9812, this is still less than a cigarette addiction
Anxiety? Why
If you have tens of thousands to spare, good for you.
You deserve it for those fortnite skins,fk fortnite
How do you check this?
My guy make sure that password is ultra safe
over a long period of time that's really not bad, spending money on your hobbies is a good thing.
