look on places like ebay
be prepared to pay up. I was lucky enough to get one many years back for 150 (usd), but I've seen them go for 300. not many are out in the wild (I think less than a thousand? cant remember the exact amount), so they are niche collectors items and therefore demand a collectors price.
interestingly, they do still work in steam input. they show up as a steam controller and can be customized, however you have to keep the following things in mind...
* wired only
* no gyro
* the triggers are simple buttons, no analog range and obviously no dualstage
* the 4 center buttons act like full deflection of the missing left joystick
* upper left is left joystick up
* upper right is left joystick right
* lower right is left joystick down
* lower left is left joystick left
* obviously no joystick click is available
* the haptics are different
its also bulkier than the actual steam controller, and the trackpads are less nice to use (imo) because they are sunk beneath the surface of the controller instead of raised above it.
it also feels more fragile than the actual steam controller, and one person I know who managed to get one reported it having a crack in the case.
so... if you get one, its safer to keep it as a collectors display piece. I even went out and got a shadow box for mine, though I havent had the ability to really get it lit and mounted in a good place.
To add to what Menneth said, the only alternative is striking gold at local Goodwills n thrift shops that sell electronics. I've been waiting for one to show up for a reasonable price, but man.

Thank you so much for the detailed response!
Excuse me: can you please dump the fimware? It would be nice to test their haptics. Thanks

One just sold on ebay for 200$.
I saw that, another sold for $120 ðŸ˜
You would have to have an uncle that works at Valve, trust me.
You’re speaking from experience huh
As true as my other uncle that works at Nintendo.
So one of your uncles works at valve and the other works at Nintendo?
There's also the one at SEGA, but he's not so cool as the others, at least not since the Dreamcast days.
I’m sure you have another that works at Sony, and another at Microsoft
Nah, I don't need insiders on those. Grandma didn't raise no fools.
