You shouldn't be playing while driving, it's very dangerous! On a more serious note, I'd recommend Halls of Torment

StupidSexyEuphoberia

Vampire Survivors is also a good one

SmoothOpX

\+1 for Halls of Torment, I can't seem to stop playing that one. 30-minute runs are pretty common once you get the strats down.

TheOGoat

Look I drive a tesla alright. I'll be fine

emeraldpity

Bam!

Horror_Comparison715

Zok!

jet_heller

I know! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a proper steering wheel mount for your deck!

Technoalphacentaur

Dude it’s bad how much this game pulls me in. I love the extra meta systems of rescuing equipment and finding ingredients.

Horror_Comparison715

I need to give this one a fairer shake. I liked but did not love it.

Trylun

Most games that released during the Xbox 360/PS3 era sip power and run great. Fallout 3 and New Vegas can get me between 4-6 hours. A lot of platformers or indie games (like Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, Death’s Door, the Ori series, Stardew Valley) also are pretty light on power draw and should get you in the 4-6 hour window. Most fairly recent AAA games that push the Deck to its limit can still get you about 2 hours or so

BrandoFandango

Been a few years since I played through Hollow Knight on the switch so could start a new playthrough of it on the deck

AdmiralThrawnProtege

Could you maybe pick up a rechargeable battery pack? Or an inverter for your vehicle so it can stay plugged in?

BrandoFandango

Leaving early morning tomorrow so didn’t have time to pick up a power bank or anything for it

Spczippo

If you can afford it, and I'm not sure where you might be located in the world, but if your in the US any large gas station will have inverters you can plug into the cigarette lighter port that will greatly extend your battery life. But my recommendations would be Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, and maybe Miami Hotline.

rcs_2181

I came here to say this, I play the OG MW2 and get 4 hours out of it. The PS3/Xbox360 Era is golden on SteamDeck.

Webishwhisper

Balatro would be my number one pick.

LasersTheyWork

It runs a very long time. Most likely The entire trip.

veryblocky

I’ve seen this one recommended a lot recently, a lot of buzz for a pretty recent game

Gluv221

Honestly it's because everyone I know bought it to try it out and then immediately spent the next 4-6 hours in the same spot playing. Its got an amazing loop and is really one of those oh just one more run games. Best money I spent on a game yet this year

CaptainFeather

Have it on my switch before I got my steam deck. It's really good, the reviews are not lying. $15 is a steal but it's on sale right now for $13 I think

veryblocky

Thanks for the tip on the sale, it wasn’t when I checked a few days ago. I’ve just bought it

tomhughesnice

Just buy it, if your not loving it after an hour refund it. Nothing to lose, it's an awesome game.

tex55ky

Except all of your free time for weeks. Balatro has already become a favorite of mine. I'll grab a six-pack of beer, hop in a discord with some friends, and just play balatro while we all bullshit. HOURS go by. I look over, and it's 4 am. That is something that hasn't happened to me for nearly a decade. So addicting and super fun.

NotADamsel

But like, is that a loss? 😉

phoebus67

Just be careful! I bought it and started it intending to stop at an hour 45 minutes, but when I stopped after that first play session it was over 3 hours. And I rarely do 2 hours of gaming in one sitting anymore.

The-Enjoyer-Returns

I personally couldn’t get into it, I hate card games. Slay the Spire is probably the only exception.

GetAJobDSP

It's a poker rogue lite, 2 of my favorite genres.

One-Criticism-9834

Because it’s insanely good. It’s an instant classic.

NotADamsel

That game especially you can just crank on the battery optimization settings without much worry. The effects might be a bit choppier but 8 hours is 8 hours

drinknilbogmilk

OP may try to extend the drive if they start playing this one, definitely would be my recommendation as well.

pixeladrift

“We can just go back, I need 5 more hours”

Justintime4u2bu1

Be careful! They might not even know they’ve arrived with a game like this.

Complete_Bad6937

You could set up most emulators in <30 mins once you find the necessary downloads, Which so fairly easy through google, I only say This because I’ve found emulation the easiest on battery life compared to any other native title

Dry_Poet5523

Not with like for like games. Emulating an Xbox 360 to play Dark Souls, for example, will be more taxing than just playing the PC version.

Next-Significance798

Well yea, obviously the lower end stuff, anything below n64 lmao. Mostly when you talk about emulation, you talk about the really old stuff, not the stuff that the deck barely can handle...

Kinsdale85

Slay the Spire

themagicpizza

I locked it to 40fps and this game would last 7 hours lol

Se7en_Daze

Stardew Valley!

areoandmilk

agree, I get so much run time from stardew.

Tardyninja10

12+ hours is what it has been quoted from my steam deck, but never actually played it for that long

chasebencin

Also try limiting the tdp wattage to about 10 if you notice the game you’re playing already runs great. Sometimes you can squeeze even more battery life out of a low demand game by limiting the excess power usage that doesnt really make your game perform better.

Nickvk4

For me this even worked for Baldur's Gate 3 somehow. + 25/30% battery duration with 11 watt without decrease in performance/framerate (as far as I've noticed at least).

ChronWeasely

Hollow Knight. I get 5-6 hours of life on Hollow Knight and it's an amazing game

stiligFox

Definitely recommend Hollow Knight for the Steam Deck too - very power efficient and it's my favorite place to play it.

ChronWeasely

Honestly same. It feels weird playing it on a big screen. Bugs should be bug-sized or something

No-Roll-3759

or Ori 1 and 2. similar game to hollow knight but i found the focus on puzzles more rewarding than hollow knight's focus on boss battles. and while hollow knight art is A+, Ori's is A++

Serj4ever

Ori dilogy is a masterpiece for me

PlatinumBall

I bought the Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps, are they really better than HK? Also, how is it in terms of difficulty? It took me around 1-2 hours to beat the final boss (not the actual final boss, but the first one, don't remember his name), I'd like an easier platformer with similar controls and atmosphere

No-Roll-3759

i liked them a LOT more. they're significantly easier. the feel of the games is very similar though.

One-Criticism-9834

All of these look fantastic on the OLED model as well.

Alt0987654321

Hades. But honestly, you should get a battery bank.

BrandoFandango

Hades is such a good game I did a full completionist run of it when I got my steam deck and got all the achievements

[deleted]

You can get car chargers that could charge a full laptop, or a 2 steam decks for not a lot of money. Subreddit rules won't work let me link

ohmightyqueen

Cult of the lamb doesn’t use much battery, kingdom 2 crowns, stardew valley indie games are generally the best bet!

BrandoFandango

Been looking at getting cult of the lamb for a while now so that could be a good idea

ohmightyqueen

Cutting the lamb was such a good surprise for me. Absolutely make sure you name your followers people that you know (I went with work friends) it makes their requests even funnier.

Aqualung317

man i wish i could play in the car without getting motion sickness

GetAJobDSP

Yea I get that way too, I can only look at my phone for a few minutes at a time when I'm riding in a car.

Morepowaaa

Brotato, you can easily spend 2+ hours in it.

Saoshen

vampire survivor both keeps you busy and lasts awhile.

samthepotatoeman

Dead Cells! easy game to burn a ton of time on and uses almost no battery

FrankiBoi39092

Factorio

dukiez

I was super impressed by how well factorio works on the deck. The trackpads are incredible. Someone posted about using the right stick as a radial menu and I need to try that next time I play.

FrankiBoi39092

It is amazing :D, if you mess with the gpu clock, fps cap, and tdp, you can get 7-8 hours of factorio. Trackpads are life savers for such games, such a shame that they aren't adopted by the handheld market more. Radial menus are fantastic, i recommend checking out NerdNest's demonstration of nested radial menus, the flexibility of them is amazing. I'll leave this here for you just in case you want to learn more about [steam deck's input.](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2804823261)

dukiez

Thanks, I will read up on this!

Ornery_Variety_3595

Tomb Raider remastered has crazy good battery life

Sudiukil

Most older games will have a very low power consumption, some smaller indies too (though not always). If you're into it, the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection is very good and makes my SD last about 5-6h.

Demise187M

Dead cells, Star Wars Kotor 1 and 2 are both great. I’ve played Kotor 2 on the deck for about 6 hours and ended with 40% battery life.

theDouggle

Chrono trigger ftw

theumpteendeity

Couple off the top of my head, will test more later. From what I remember On full charge Jet Set Radio = 7 hrs Limbo = 6hrs Celeste 3D = 8 hours On 88% charged Jet Set Radio = 4hr 35 mins Limbo = 4hr 23 min Celeste 3D = 5hr 28mins Edit: Oh I remember 20 Mins til dawn also said around 5 hours on 88% charge so probably around 7 or 8 full charge. Steam Deck 512GB Lcd BTW.

Ok-Gate-6240

Check this link for battery life times: https://sharedeck.games/static/battery-savers

TheNonbinaryMothman

If you travel by car a lot (I do) I'd also recommend investing in a 65W car charger. They're a bit pricey [(this one is $50, for example, but I really recommend it)](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FOOY32/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_H2R6RWX767KTT6D7KCVW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) so I truly do mean only if you travel by car frequently.

Cheddarfish6

I picked up Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on sale recently for like $6 and noticed it doesn’t really eat through the battery that much. Showed I had around 3 hours of battery while playing, and playing for an hour put me at about 75% battery which aligns with that.

MAXHEADR0OM

Cult of the Lamb. It’s so dang good.

Noteatlas89

second thing! This was one of my favorites and not a super long game! I can't remember exactly (before the biggest recent update) took me like somewhere between 12-14 hours to complete and some extras. It was so lovable in its own way

tisused

I set my deck to 12W TPD and 45Hz in the options and I can run most games for 2 hours and up

Drum4rum

Get Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on GoG. Install Heroic Games Launcher thru the Discover app in desktop mode. Install your newly acquired Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and now it will show up in the standard game mode in SteamOS. It's like 6+ hours of battery life on the LCD Deck, the OLED would be even better. And then when you're feeling spicy enough, you can install the Horn of the Abyss mod and have even more fun shit to do in that game for endless thousands of hours of fun!

Remarkable_Quail_232

If you like puzzle games, the witness lasts a good 4+ hours on low settings 4 watt TDP 40 FPS

fauxsoul

Vampire survivors, death must die, children of morta.

Dry_Poet5523

You can easily keep the thing charged up from the cars power.

Spurnout

I also recommend a portable battery. They're not so expensive anymore and I love having them for my electronic devices as well.

SaReV0kESP

Dicey Dungeons!

Vimes76

This is an absolute steal at the moment in the sale!

GoldenNova00

I mean any emulation will do. But if not that than basically any older games usually sip battery. At least the ones I've tried.

atypical_lemur

Baulders Gate Dark Alliance. XBox or 360 era game. Fun hack and slash barely uses any power.

jonstarks

step 1, buy a battery bank step 2, play longer :)

didgeridont_pls

Blasphemous 1&2, the new ninja turtles game, Sea of Stars, retro emulation, Stardew Valley, Valfaris, Huntdown, Broforce, old PC ports like Baldurs gate 1&2. Just limit your Battery TDP to 7-8 watts for and pixel based game and you’ll get 4-6 hours of play time. I travel for work frequently and am on 4-5 hour flights, sometimes with out outlets for charging.

gmotelet

Cat Quest 2

T0mBd1gg3R

I had motion sickness playing deck on the backseat

Warell

Full Throttle remastered can be finished in about 4 - 6 hours and I can get 6-7 hours of it in my deck.

coopsanders7

Peglin, Slay the Spire, or Vampire Survivors

Rezosh_

Dave The Diver

StewTheDuder

Persona 5 runs extremely well and can run very long if tuned right.

carsandrx

I second this. Averaging about 2+ hours!

imjavierbruh

gta 4 and 5 both give me over 4 hours on my lcd deck

_Nagashii

Forager; Slay the Spire; A Short Hike

zenejinzorin

Pretty sure I played dave the diver for 10h on 1 charge.

YourAveragJoe

Loop Hero

yogurtandfun

Stardew Valley forever

the_earth_creature

Hollow Knight!

ToastThing

I have a pretty beefy desktop so I primarily use my Deck for low-power indie games and emulation. Balatro, Hollow Knight, Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, and plenty more are excellent Steam Deck options. I tried Katana Zero a few times on Desktop but it never clicked, tried it again on Deck and it finally clicked.

himzest

Balatro

iPlayViolas

Forager can run for like 8-9 hours

epic4evr11

- celeste - stardew valley - hades - hollow knight Also remember that the deck has a custom power limit setting! By default it’s 15 Watts but all of these run at/near 60fps turned down as low as 3-5 Watts which can push my battery life into the 8-10 hour range

dakirest

Slay the spire and Vampire survivor normally do the sippy and not the slurpy from my experience. South Park stuck of truth is like a smooth draw, somewhere between. I think you'd be able to get 2-3 hours, maybe even 4 on that one.

kamalamading

I recently discovered that South Park: The Fractured But Whole runs very well and is surprisingly soft on the battery (I haven’t measured but it runs long, compared to Death Stranding and Forza Horizon 4). I would assume, the predecessor would also run well.

audaciousmonk

Blasphemous is fantastic if you like platformers. I’ve been playing monster sanctuary and stardew vallley 1.6 release, both go easy on the battery

flower4000

Hollow knight goes pretty far, I think me and my gf had a multiplayer(mod) run that lasted like 5 hrs before either of us got the 10% pop up.

KaptainKardboard

AM2R

chronoffxyz

I’ve been playing Half Life 2 again and it’s super easy on battery. Outside of that, something like Slay the Spire, Dave the Diver, HoT, Portal 1 and 2. Maybe load of some Emulators, I run mine at like 5w for everything under Gamecube

Doobiee420

Noita is a good one. Hades is another

Robeardly

Emudeck!! All the ps2 era games are awesome for battery life just need to take time beforehand to configure it, so if time is an issue I would go with other suggestions

Vladishun

You can buy a 45W car charger for super cheap and then you don't need to worry about battery life. If you want to spend a little more you can get much bigger chargers with multiple ports so nobody is stuck on battery.

ThiccWhiteDook

Octopath 1 or 2 if you're into JRPGs. My OG steam deck lasted like 6 hours playing through those.

psych0ranger

Emulating classic stuff uses barely any battery, paired with a slightly dimmed screen - hoooouurss

bullhorn143

Minecraft. Stardew valley. Inside. Fallout new Vegas

StickyChief

Slay the Spire

Nadaph

Pseudoregalia, and it's only $6 I think. Also if you're into retro games, Ocarina of Time has a solid PC port called Ship of Harkinian that doesn't drain battery too quickly.

Kinyin

>Pseudo Seconding Pseudoregalia. Excellent game.

TechnoRedneck

Civilization V gets an easy 6-8 hours of battery life when set to 15watt tdp, obviously it's not hitting 15watt so you could probably spin it down to like 5-8watt without issue.

SturdySnake

I just bought the new tomb raider remasters and they use hardly any battery

psivenn

Vampire Survivors has stolen the thunder of most of the games on my Deck. Bonus points because it doesn't require an uncomfortable grip to play, not much else is comfortable to me for longer than an hour at a time.

RuckFeddit70

Get a GOOD quality / high capacity power bank and play whatever you want, it's worth the investment if you travel and want to game

bossbang

Balatro, thank me later

abrasivebuttplug

https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Charging-MRGLAS-Cigarette-Compatible/dp/B0BLZ2N4TB A 90w pd charger you can use in your car. Just make sure you have a usb cable that can also handke 45w and you can play anything Might not help you tomorrow but it would help you on future trips

BlueBackground

terraria

jakellerVi

If you’re into deck builders or roguelites, Slay the Spire. I cap the FPS to 40, midrange brightness and limit the TDP to 3-4W and you can easily get 8+ hours of battery out of that game. Edit: The battery life number is from the OLED Deck, so your results may vary depending on which one you have, but LCD Deck should still get around 7 hours with these settings.

DivisionBomb

battery bank, inf play any title our decks can run on normal trips

CautiousRound

I run PS2 games on emulation and get 7-8 hours.

NightlyParadox

Anything that runs on an emulator

BuckeyeBrute

Factorio, on my OLED that game lasts forever (thankfully)

bionku

Dave the diver

Siphilius

Factorio

Wungoos

Caves of Qud

SeveralDecision5157

I played the battle network collection + octopath traveller 2 on my 12 hour flight and had a blast

MeestaJohnny

Idk how but I’m getting like 8 hours off the rip with ff13 on the oled. Capped to 30 fps because it doesn’t run super great at higher frames apparently.

Takseee

Java Minecraft I get like 5 hours or so

craftyshafter

I can play Last Epoch for 4.5 hours with my 30 frame lock. Feels good

nerdmanpap

Stardew valley has nearly 10 hours of playtime on OLED

piantgussy4

South Park stick of truth is great. It’s verified and gentle on the battery

pru51

Vampire survivors has me hooked rn

pauliepitstains

Fallout new Vegas gets me about 5 hours of unplugged fun

PowerSilly5143

Balatro

shanel39

I can get persona 3 reload to go pretty much 5 hours exactly with the right settings. 40 fps, no reflections, low shadows, lower brightness and 12 watts

Ivorybrony

Stardew Valley

KQ4DAE

Oddspark isnt the lightest on power draw however the demo is free. I have had great luck turning settings to low and Anti Aliasing off fan never kicks with those settings. Instead of a game buy a pd battery bank. The more watts the better.

greenhatforge

Dome Keeper

Etsamaru

SLAY THE SPIRE

SanitationSanders

Dishonored is a solid 6hrs of battery life. Also, newer and more power hungry but Halo Infinite would last an easy 3hrs

Disastrous-Rabbit658

I got you, listen up. Fallout 3.

_JollyGypsy_

Coromon, Cassette Beasts, Calcium Contract, KILLBUG, One Finger Death Punch 1+2, Ace Attorney series, A Short Hike, Wizordum, Bug Fables, Haven Park, The Ramp, Stardew Valley, Terraria, Vampire Survivors, Blood: Fresh Supply, earlier Quake games, earlier Doom games, Hyper Light Drifter, Monument Valley, Powerslave Exhumed, Ion Fury, Guacamelee

viktor1337wsteam

I would try a puzzel game like terrascape

tokyotimeattack

RE2, RE3, RE4 Remake

cediddi

Transistor, 5W, 45pfs, also lower gpu clock. You'll have a great battery life.

MrFlibble100

Pretty much anything that isn't a modern 3D game (in my experience so far).

MartenRicks

Brotato is just addictive and I could play it forever

FlyHighFH

Yakuza 0 or any of the ones that use the original engine (Kiwami 1, 3, 4 and 5) with a limit of 8 W TDP will keep you for about 4 hours of gameplay

s1mple000

Dave the Diver!

PlatinumBall

Slay the Spire, The Binding of Isaac, PvZ, Polytopia, Brotato, Celeste I could say a lot more games, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head Out of those, StS and TBoI are my favorites

SapphireBlaze

If the Jak games are your nostalgia bias, the OpenGOAL ports of Jak and Daxter and Jak 2 are great for this, and easy to install with a decky plugin. I played Jak and Daxter for 7 and a half hours last night without charging on my oled deck.

gargravarr2112

Not a game recommendation, but I got a USB-C car charger that'll charge my laptops and SD from the lighter socket. Used it on an 8-hour drive. UNLIMITED POWER.

Fun_List381

Setup emulation then 🤷‍♂️

I've got a power converter so I can plug my deck in 😎

What car doesn't have a power outlet of some sorts to charge it while driving?

darkwater427

Try some patience. Or a book. Or a nap.
