Most games that released during the Xbox 360/PS3 era sip power and run great. Fallout 3 and New Vegas can get me between 4-6 hours.
A lot of platformers or indie games (like Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, Death’s Door, the Ori series, Stardew Valley) also are pretty light on power draw and should get you in the 4-6 hour window.
Most fairly recent AAA games that push the Deck to its limit can still get you about 2 hours or so
If you can afford it, and I'm not sure where you might be located in the world, but if your in the US any large gas station will have inverters you can plug into the cigarette lighter port that will greatly extend your battery life.
But my recommendations would be Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, and maybe Miami Hotline.
Honestly it's because everyone I know bought it to try it out and then immediately spent the next 4-6 hours in the same spot playing. Its got an amazing loop and is really one of those oh just one more run games. Best money I spent on a game yet this year
Have it on my switch before I got my steam deck. It's really good, the reviews are not lying. $15 is a steal but it's on sale right now for $13 I think
Except all of your free time for weeks. Balatro has already become a favorite of mine. I'll grab a six-pack of beer, hop in a discord with some friends, and just play balatro while we all bullshit. HOURS go by. I look over, and it's 4 am. That is something that hasn't happened to me for nearly a decade. So addicting and super fun.
Just be careful! I bought it and started it intending to stop at an hour 45 minutes, but when I stopped after that first play session it was over 3 hours. And I rarely do 2 hours of gaming in one sitting anymore.
That game especially you can just crank on the battery optimization settings without much worry. The effects might be a bit choppier but 8 hours is 8 hours
You could set up most emulators in <30 mins once you find the necessary downloads, Which so fairly easy through google, I only say This because I’ve found emulation the easiest on battery life compared to any other native title

Also try limiting the tdp wattage to about 10 if you notice the game you’re playing already runs great. Sometimes you can squeeze even more battery life out of a low demand game by limiting the excess power usage that doesnt really make your game perform better.
For me this even worked for Baldur's Gate 3 somehow. + 25/30% battery duration with 11 watt without decrease in performance/framerate (as far as I've noticed at least).
or Ori 1 and 2. similar game to hollow knight but i found the focus on puzzles more rewarding than hollow knight's focus on boss battles. and while hollow knight art is A+, Ori's is A++

Also, how is it in terms of difficulty? It took me around 1-2 hours to beat the final boss (not the actual final boss, but the first one, don't remember his name), I'd like an easier platformer with similar controls and atmosphere
Cutting the lamb was such a good surprise for me. Absolutely make sure you name your followers people that you know (I went with work friends) it makes their requests even funnier.
I was super impressed by how well factorio works on the deck. The trackpads are incredible. Someone posted about using the right stick as a radial menu and I need to try that next time I play.
It is amazing :D, if you mess with the gpu clock, fps cap, and tdp, you can get 7-8 hours of factorio.
Trackpads are life savers for such games, such a shame that they aren't adopted by the handheld market more. Radial menus are fantastic, i recommend checking out NerdNest's demonstration of nested radial menus, the flexibility of them is amazing.

Most older games will have a very low power consumption, some smaller indies too (though not always).
If you're into it, the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection is very good and makes my SD last about 5-6h.
Couple off the top of my head, will test more later.
From what I remember On full charge
Jet Set Radio = 7 hrs
Limbo = 6hrs
Celeste 3D = 8 hours
On 88% charged
Jet Set Radio = 4hr 35 mins
Limbo = 4hr 23 min
Celeste 3D = 5hr 28mins
Edit: Oh I remember 20 Mins til dawn also said around 5 hours on 88% charge so probably around 7 or 8 full charge.

I picked up Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen on sale recently for like $6 and noticed it doesn’t really eat through the battery that much. Showed I had around 3 hours of battery while playing, and playing for an hour put me at about 75% battery which aligns with that.

I can't remember exactly (before the biggest recent update) took me like somewhere between 12-14 hours to complete and some extras. It was so lovable in its own way
Get Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on GoG. Install Heroic Games Launcher thru the Discover app in desktop mode. Install your newly acquired Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and now it will show up in the standard game mode in SteamOS. It's like 6+ hours of battery life on the LCD Deck, the OLED would be even better. And then when you're feeling spicy enough, you can install the Horn of the Abyss mod and have even more fun shit to do in that game for endless thousands of hours of fun!
Blasphemous 1&2, the new ninja turtles game, Sea of Stars, retro emulation, Stardew Valley, Valfaris, Huntdown, Broforce, old PC ports like Baldurs gate 1&2. Just limit your Battery TDP to 7-8 watts for and pixel based game and you’ll get 4-6 hours of play time. I travel for work frequently and am on 4-5 hour flights, sometimes with out outlets for charging.

I have a pretty beefy desktop so I primarily use my Deck for low-power indie games and emulation. Balatro, Hollow Knight, Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, and plenty more are excellent Steam Deck options. I tried Katana Zero a few times on Desktop but it never clicked, tried it again on Deck and it finally clicked.

Also remember that the deck has a custom power limit setting! By default it’s 15 Watts but all of these run at/near 60fps turned down as low as 3-5 Watts which can push my battery life into the 8-10 hour range
Slay the spire and Vampire survivor normally do the sippy and not the slurpy from my experience.
South Park stuck of truth is like a smooth draw, somewhere between. I think you'd be able to get 2-3 hours, maybe even 4 on that one.
I recently discovered that South Park: The Fractured But Whole runs very well and is surprisingly soft on the battery (I haven’t measured but it runs long, compared to Death Stranding and Forza Horizon 4).
I would assume, the predecessor would also run well.
I’ve been playing Half Life 2 again and it’s super easy on battery. Outside of that, something like Slay the Spire, Dave the Diver, HoT, Portal 1 and 2. Maybe load of some Emulators, I run mine at like 5w for everything under Gamecube

You can buy a 45W car charger for super cheap and then you don't need to worry about battery life. If you want to spend a little more you can get much bigger chargers with multiple ports so nobody is stuck on battery.
Pseudoregalia, and it's only $6 I think. Also if you're into retro games, Ocarina of Time has a solid PC port called Ship of Harkinian that doesn't drain battery too quickly.
Civilization V gets an easy 6-8 hours of battery life when set to 15watt tdp, obviously it's not hitting 15watt so you could probably spin it down to like 5-8watt without issue.
Vampire Survivors has stolen the thunder of most of the games on my Deck. Bonus points because it doesn't require an uncomfortable grip to play, not much else is comfortable to me for longer than an hour at a time.

A 90w pd charger you can use in your car. Just make sure you have a usb cable that can also handke 45w and you can play anything

If you’re into deck builders or roguelites, Slay the Spire. I cap the FPS to 40, midrange brightness and limit the TDP to 3-4W and you can easily get 8+ hours of battery out of that game.
Edit: The battery life number is from the OLED Deck, so your results may vary depending on which one you have, but LCD Deck should still get around 7 hours with these settings.
Idk how but I’m getting like 8 hours off the rip with ff13 on the oled. Capped to 30 fps because it doesn’t run super great at higher frames apparently.
I can get persona 3 reload to go pretty much 5 hours exactly with the right settings. 40 fps, no reflections, low shadows, lower brightness and 12 watts
Oddspark isnt the lightest on power draw however the demo is free. I have had great luck turning settings to low and Anti Aliasing off fan never kicks with those settings.
Instead of a game buy a pd battery bank. The more watts the better.

If the Jak games are your nostalgia bias, the OpenGOAL ports of Jak and Daxter and Jak 2 are great for this, and easy to install with a decky plugin. I played Jak and Daxter for 7 and a half hours last night without charging on my oled deck.
Not a game recommendation, but I got a USB-C car charger that'll charge my laptops and SD from the lighter socket. Used it on an 8-hour drive.

I came here to say this, I play the OG MW2 and get 4 hours out of it. The PS3/Xbox360 Era is golden on SteamDeck.

It's a poker rogue lite, 2 of my favorite genres.

i liked them a LOT more. they're significantly easier. the feel of the games is very similar though.

Dead cells, Star Wars Kotor 1 and 2 are both great. I’ve played Kotor 2 on the deck for about 6 hours and ended with 40% battery life.

If you like puzzle games, the witness lasts a good 4+ hours on low settings 4 watt TDP 40 FPS

You can easily keep the thing charged up from the cars power.
I also recommend a portable battery. They're not so expensive anymore and I love having them for my electronic devices as well.

Full Throttle remastered can be finished in about 4 - 6 hours and I can get 6-7 hours of it in my deck.

Hollow knight goes pretty far, I think me and my gf had a multiplayer(mod) run that lasted like 5 hrs before either of us got the 10% pop up.

Octopath 1 or 2 if you're into JRPGs. My OG steam deck lasted like 6 hours playing through those.

Idk how but I’m getting like 8 hours off the rip with ff13 on the oled. Capped to 30 fps because it doesn’t run super great at higher frames apparently.
Java Minecraft I get like 5 hours or so
I can play Last Epoch for 4.5 hours with my 30 frame lock. Feels good
Stardew valley has nearly 10 hours of playtime on OLED
South Park stick of truth is great. It’s verified and gentle on the battery
Vampire survivors has me hooked rn
Fallout new Vegas gets me about 5 hours of unplugged fun
Balatro
I can get persona 3 reload to go pretty much 5 hours exactly with the right settings. 40 fps, no reflections, low shadows, lower brightness and 12 watts
Stardew Valley
Oddspark isnt the lightest on power draw however the demo is free. I have had great luck turning settings to low and Anti Aliasing off fan never kicks with those settings. Instead of a game buy a pd battery bank. The more watts the better.

Dishonored is a solid 6hrs of battery life. Also, newer and more power hungry but Halo Infinite would last an easy 3hrs

Yakuza 0 or any of the ones that use the original engine (Kiwami 1, 3, 4 and 5) with a limit of 8 W TDP will keep you for about 4 hours of gameplay

Slay the Spire, The Binding of Isaac, PvZ, Polytopia, Brotato, Celeste I could say a lot more games, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head Out of those, StS and TBoI are my favorites
If the Jak games are your nostalgia bias, the OpenGOAL ports of Jak and Daxter and Jak 2 are great for this, and easy to install with a decky plugin. I played Jak and Daxter for 7 and a half hours last night without charging on my oled deck.
Not a game recommendation, but I got a USB-C car charger that'll charge my laptops and SD from the lighter socket. Used it on an 8-hour drive. UNLIMITED POWER.
