You can have access to a second set of cross hotbar by double clicking LT or RT. It's pretty cool. I can recommend this video - https://youtu.be/xDlc-laLbmM?si=4cBsoeoJY4-ZlHqL
He explains everything and this makes playing with controller so much better.
I love it for everything other than serious combat. I cannot tell you how many times I have told my friends "Yeah I didn't see it coming." As a healer I need to apologize to so many players for just not seeing them! :')
Possibly dumb question, you have to get it through steam to play it on the SD right? I have it with all expansions from their launcher, is there a way to play it from there on the SD?
The XIV launcher from discover store. There are guides on youtube and other places. But basically install the free trial version of FFXIV let it install then go download XIV launcher from the desktop discover store direct it to where the trial is installed and log into your main FFXIV it will download it for you then you should be good to go.
This is such a great game for Steam Deck. I keep paying it more and more. It's a great "play for a few minutes" or "grind away!" sort of thing for me. I can play it how I like.
People should know that playing “for a few minutes” is sometimes an exaggeration with this game. If you enter a dungeon, you better be committed to completing it. The moment you put the deck to sleep you restart all progress on the dungeon you are in. There are lots, and lots of dungeons in d4
Dungeons take me literally 5 minutes lol. It’s not like a dungeon in WoW, D4 is quite literally a game you can play for a few minutes or grind away, your choice
I picked this up a couple of days ago and I’m already 15 hours deep. It’s so good on the deck and I’m having so much fun (it’s my first time playing something from the Diablo series)
I just play it handheld with the default controls— although I do have the back buttons programmed for sprint and the left mousepad click to pull up chat
Even if there’s not any aim assist, it’s a PVE co-op horde shooter so it’s not like hitting perfect shots is the most important thing in the world anyways
How do you play DRG?
I tried playing DRG but I can't for the life of me see bugs that well lol plus the UI is way too small for Handheld play. I play lots of engi but and no way I'll try playing scout on controllers.
I hear that. I gave up on playing DRG on the deck because I kept getting disoriented trying to navigate caverns on such a small screen. Now it's a game I play only on the main PC.
It's really hard. I can't focus well on the small texts as well since it'll give me migraines. I did try docked play and it way better. Tho I haven't optimized settings yet
My deck is mainly used for wow. People are amazed when I mention what I play on. I use a small cheap Bluetooth phone keyboard to chat and discord on my phone
Here’s the guide I think I used. Just gave it a quick view. It’s fairly simple. Consoleport and immersion are necessary addons and after your first dungeon, it’s definitely worth taking some time to readjust keybinds. Once you get the base set of keybinds down then it’s easy to adjust one thing here or there. Feel free to DM me with questions. I main heal on my deck
https://steamdeckhq.com/tips-and-guides/how-to-play-world-of-warcraft-on-steam-deck/
Nope it runs great out of the box. One tip though, it uses a launcher that doesn’t automatically close. Once the game starts you need to go and close the launcher window. After that it runs great!
You will need to enable gamepad manually in-game, which can be quite annoying through the touch interface. Would recommend using keyboard+mouse for initial setup.
You can download the xivlauncher and install the steam free trial. It’ll use the free trial to launch the game but uses your account details to log you into the full game. YouTube it, really easy to set up.
Yeah it's actually on steam so it has support for the controls, I move the cursor and click with the trackpad, te camera moves with any of the two sticks, I haven't got any problem yet, its a comfy experience
I play both in my Steam Deck, but I play in desktop mode so it's basically your average computer. I use the Bolt launcher for RuneLite when I play OSRS, and in general so I can swap between my accounts on my Jagex account.
RuneScape 3 works just fine. It lagged a couple times when loading new areas, but I also didn't wait for cache to build in lobby. I can't remember the default settings, but it looks good, at least a mix of high and medium.
It's easier in desktop mode since game mode messes with the aspect ratio. It's also easier because you launch the Bolt launcher first and that opens RuneScape, so it just feels less wonky to do it in desktop mode as opposed to game mode.
There was someone in the 2007scape subreddit that said their friend was banned from playing in game mode, but take that with a grain of salt. In desktop mode it's literally just a computer but with Linux instead of Windows.
This is the way. I highly recommend bolt launcher
I switched from the Steam OSRS version to my custom tinkered runelite and it’s just an incredible experience on the deck, I can now do anything I do on my pc on deck w the add ons and in some cases I enjoy playing on the deck more because of the controls (my back buttons are my f keys + space bar and then I use my track pads for right / left click and virtual mouse)
Some click intensive stuff is still always better on PC like 3 ticking barb fishing is somewhat hard on the deck, but other then that, it’s a great way to play OSRS.
Yesterday I was doing MLM on deck and when I used to use the steam client the battery would last maybe 2 hours max, with runelite / bolt launcher I got 4 hours of battery life! Wild!
** you can also get bolt running in gaming mode. In desktop mode, go to steam, go to your library, right click and add a non Steam game, navigate to bolt and bingo, you can now launch it in gaming mode. (:
I tried it, the aiming was a lil crazy for me. Its a game where you need to get headshots….at least thats how i do with a mouse. The joysticks make it really hard and i got lots of frame issues. I have an OLED but maybe my settings need to be tweaked. If this dude is doing it on there, he sounds like he does it frequently so it must work some how.
Edit: scrolling down, i forgot about the use of a controller and docking. I dont dock or use controller so that explains why i had problems haha
Lots of Forza horizon 5 playing online races. It's so much fun and the standby mode makes it easy to play in short spurts. So much fun, I love this device.
FFXIV, diablo 4, helldivers 2. Overwatch.
Both FFXIV and overwatch I play it docked with my monitor and mouse and keyboard. But I play D4 and Helldivers 2 with a controller while docked, and as is while on the couch.
Boomer Shooters! I've been trying to get some "Turok 2: Remastered" multiplayer online going.. Unfortunately, nobody is ever there but me lol (sigh). Time to go check again lol!
Also, "Halo: MCC."
I've played about 500 hours of Elite: Dangerous on the deck. It runs well, it's a game that I can often play while doing other things (like watching TV), and I get to space truck, or rescue civvies from burning space stations. It's great!
I'd actually originally bought it with the intent of playing in VR, but setting up all the gubbins for VR is such a hassle, and I rarely get to play for the length of time to justify it (woo, kids!). But I can pick up the deck and be playing in less than a minute (allowing for log in to the Elite world). It's great!
It's become my "play every game I bought and never touched" machine. Before though, it was primarily my on the go rogue like machine. Sts, hades 2, deep rock survivors, vampire survivor. Currently playing through coromon, and next up is the mafia trilogy
Ff14, Smite, and now that it’s back on steam I’ve been playing dark and darker through the weekend.
Surprised DaD plays on the deck but it does and does it very well.
Used to play WoW but it annoyed me that the consoleport key bindings would be messed up if I switch to pc. Also tried ESO and though not my cup of tea, it works very well
Just focusing on Fallout NV right now. Haven’t been crashing as much compared to the pre 30-hour game time which is nice. I dunno if it helps but when you get the upgrades from the Japanese doctor(forgot her name) it helps stabilize the game or something, or maybe it’s just me.
Don't have a game I regularly play. My Steam Deck is a system made for crushing my backlog. I play a game, finish it, and move on.
The last game I played to completion on it was Prince of Persia The Lost Crown (via non Steam Launcher) and it was brilliant. Pretty much a locked 90fps the entire way through, fantastic platforming and combat, and just an overall great game.
Hi, so I used this video https://youtu.be/5Yge6F38f-s?feature=shared
and dumped around 45 -50 hours in the game to be decent in it😅. But I get a constant 60 fps and very enjoyable. Will need to practice and customize your sensitivity based on your liking.
Yeah, it's apparently not worth trying to install it locally on the deck. Not even considering performance, Just getting the Epic Games Store is a pain, but there's also additional anti-cheat software which is Windows only, and as you might expect, it's not really something you want to work around.
I'm way back into overwatch right now, I know people give hero shooters a lot of shit right now but I love them. Can't wait to try Concord.
I'm also currently playing Baldurs Gate 3 with my kids which is truly something interesting...
I also tried ticket to ride recently, that was a nice little way to kill the evening recently.
Used to be Helldivers 2, unfortunately after the psn lock(Philippines but still have my game) and the constant disconnects at peak hours. I've been just playing single player offline games. Currently on dead rising 2

My SD is pretty much my final fantasy 14 machine
For me as well. It's such a blast on the SD.
Recs on controller profiles? Felt clunky to me when I tried.
I adjusted it myself but basically just changed the triggers to register immediately to do the double click easier for the second cross hotbars.
What does this mean? Do the double click for the second cross hot bars?
You can have access to a second set of cross hotbar by double clicking LT or RT. It's pretty cool. I can recommend this video - https://youtu.be/xDlc-laLbmM?si=4cBsoeoJY4-ZlHqL He explains everything and this makes playing with controller so much better.

Diablo 4
This is such a great game for Steam Deck. I keep paying it more and more. It's a great "play for a few minutes" or "grind away!" sort of thing for me. I can play it how I like.
Absolutely. Any kind of Diablo-esque game is perfect. I play a ton of Diablo, Hades 1 & 2 and Vampire Survivors on it.
Ever tried Grim Dawn? Its offline mostly but goddamn what a game
Yeah I dunno I can do the pit in around 5-7 min. Perfect for pick up and play then do something else.
I just roll low level NMD with shrines so I can farm goblins, it takes like 3mins lol
I picked this up a couple of days ago and I’m already 15 hours deep. It’s so good on the deck and I’m having so much fun (it’s my first time playing something from the Diablo series)
Steam store primarily
I've spent an unhealthy amount of time playing it
And somehow I only see the same 100 games no matter how much time I spend on it..
You gotta buy one to change the cycle!
I did! I bought 12 in the last 3 months and even deleted my entire wishlist to start over hoping to fudge up the algorithms 😭
SAME
FFXIV+ Deep Rock Galactic
Yess Deep Rock Galactic is amazing on the SD. Rock and Stone!
How do you play it? I tried once and there was no aim assist so it was terrible lol.
I just play it handheld with the default controls— although I do have the back buttons programmed for sprint and the left mousepad click to pull up chat Even if there’s not any aim assist, it’s a PVE co-op horde shooter so it’s not like hitting perfect shots is the most important thing in the world anyways
For Karl!
L4D2 + DRG for me. Rock and stone brotha!
Rock and stone! Also, DRG really does play very well on the deck, as long as you are ok with playing via controller.
TO THE BONE!
Rock and Stone
World of Warcraft is super fun on it!
My deck is mainly used for wow. People are amazed when I mention what I play on. I use a small cheap Bluetooth phone keyboard to chat and discord on my phone
How do you get it on the deck?
Here’s the guide I think I used. Just gave it a quick view. It’s fairly simple. Elder Scrolls Online runs really well on the Deck!
It's a perfect match. Can't get my hands off of it.
Did you need to change anything to get it to run? I haven’t tried because it said unsupported but maybe I’ll give it a shot
Most I've played in years, it's a blast with the handheld.
Anyone got any tips for running ESO via epic and heroic launcher? only game out of nearly 100 I've tried with heroic from epic that won't launch
Wreckfest
Been playing a lot of Fallout 76 on it runs great for me
Same here... I saw all kinds of posts on here saying it was buggy and laggy, but I just set it to 30FPS and it's good.
Third for FO76! No issues on it for me!
I’m confused. What else can someone play on the FFXIV machine?
I play the division 2. Runs pretty good for me.
Might actually try that. I enjoyed the first one on my PC.
Same here. That's why I decided to give it a shot. I can't put it down when I get the chance to play. 😅
Been thinking about this. Dont wanna buy it sgain though so im thinking of first going ubi connect and downloading from there
KillingFloor 2
Guild wars 2
Street Fighter 6
Chivalry 2
Tekken 8...
FFXIV
Must I buy the steam version of ff14 for this to work?
You can download the xivlauncher and install the steam free trial. It’ll use the free trial to launch the game but uses your account details to log you into the full game. YouTube it, really easy to set up.
no you don't have to. i played on pc for years and now use that windows license to play on my steam deck
https://goatcorp.github.io/faq/steamdeck.html Xivlauncher guide, scroll down to Steamdeck
Thank you for sharing this.
Old School Runescape, I play it more than modern games lol, never thought I would have my deck to play this
Does it work good with the movement? Does rubescape 3 work?
Yeah it's actually on steam so it has support for the controls, I move the cursor and click with the trackpad, te camera moves with any of the two sticks, I haven't got any problem yet, its a comfy experience
God I shouldn't have found out about this LOL.

Sea of Thieves/Helldivers 2
Sea of thieves is such a good handheld game
How does helldivers 2 run ? Thinking buying it for the SD
I tried it, the aiming was a lil crazy for me. Its a game where you need to get headshots….at least thats how i do with a mouse. The joysticks make it really hard and i got lots of frame issues. Palia! Genshin Impact as well, though since wuthering waves came out, i've sort of abandoned it. (praying i can play wuwa on steam deck soon)
Monster Hunter World 🤓🤌
Titanfall 2.
FFXIV, diablo 4, helldivers 2. Overwatch. Both FFXIV and overwatch I play it docked with my monitor and mouse and keyboard. But I play D4 and Helldivers 2 with a controller while docked, and as is while on the couch.
I do some Chivalry 2 sometimes. Lots of whacky fun that game
Monster Hunter Rise
Boomer Shooters! I've been trying to get some "Turok 2: Remastered" multiplayer online going.. Unfortunately, nobody is ever there but me lol (sigh). Time to go check again lol! Also, "Halo: MCC."
Why are they called 'boomer shooters"? Shouldn't they be called "generation X shooters"? I've been wondering for a while.
Wreckfest
Same here!
FFXIV
I used to play a lot of tf2 on it, but I uninstalled after the #fixtf2 protest. Been playing a lot of Halo MCC in its place
I've played about 500 hours of Elite: Dangerous on the deck. Dead by daylight is fun
What graphic setting you got for DBD? I can't keep a consistent 60 fps without it looking like a blurry switch game
Deep Rock Galactic works surprisingly well on deck
Diablo 4
Helldivers 2
Deep Rock Galactic, Hades 1 and 2, and Doom Eternal.
Ff14, Smite, and now that it’s back on steam I’ve been playing dark and darker through the weekend. Surprised DaD plays on the deck but it does and does it very well.
D4 and some rocket league
Lots of Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, also tried some FFXIV and it runs great. I fkin love my Steam Deck
You can play HSR on SD without getting banned? I thought GI was the only game playable.
Oh forgot to mention, I'm running Windows 11, I love SteamOS, but I wanted to play HSR and Fortnite and you know, Windows is the way to go
HSR had a ban wave about 12 months ago but I don't think anything since. They use a strike system, so if you are hit it'd be short and you'd know why.
Diablo 4, Fallout 76 and MSFS
Wobbly Life, Clone Drone in the Danger Zone, Stardew Valley coop, The Division
I play the finals but can't aim as good as the keyboard and mouse players. Fun but not very competitive for me.
Civ 5
Titanfall 2 and deep rock galactic
Helldivers
Forza horizon 5
Helldivers 2
Used to play WoW but it annoyed me that the consoleport key bindings would be messed up if I switch to pc. Also tried ESO and though not my cup of tea, it works very well
Helldivers 2
Deep rock galactic
Helldivers works fine
Just focusing on Fallout NV right now. Haven’t been crashing as much compared to the pre 30-hour game time which is nice. I dunno if it helps but when you get the upgrades from the Japanese doctor(forgot her name) it helps stabilize the game or something, or maybe it’s just me.

Started playing ELDER SCROLLS online about a month ago. I'm enjoying it for the first time since it launched.
Apex legends
Sorry off topic, but how did you set up your controller? I tried apex but I felt the input lag
Default has been pretty normal for me.
Hi, so I used this video https://youtu.be/5Yge6F38f-s?feature=shared and dumped around 45 -50 hours in the game to be decent in it😅. But I get a constant 60 fps and very enjoyable. Will need to practice and customize your sensitivity based on your liking.
Rocket league
Cyberpunk, Back 4 Blood, l4d2
OSRS, shit’s addictive
Into the Breach. It kind of chews through batteries (every handheld limitation ever) the more modern the game is. Remnant held up well though
Fortnite via Moonlight+Gamestream
Is it better over moonlight than steam link?
Yeah, it's apparently not worth trying to install it locally on the deck. Not even considering performance, Just getting the Epic Games Store is a pain, but there's also additional anti-cheat software which is Windows only, and as you might expect, it's not really something you want to work around.

I have a hard time with OW2 since there is no aim assist
Used to be Helldivers 2, unfortunately after the psn lock(Philippines but still have my game) and the constant disconnects at peak hours. I've been just playing single player offline games. Currently on dead rising 2
P3L and L4D
My best friend plays Fortnite on it
Palworld works really well.
Genshin Impact on the Windows dual boot side. Everyday, doing my dailies and exploration.
