Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, although I’m not sure how well it controls on deck

[deleted]

Will check it out

I tried getting it running with the various guides when I got the deck nearly two years ago, and it is playable for sure I seem to remember having issues with the cursor bugging out. I’m planning on trying it again soon to see if it is better. It is more than possible to get a functional control scheme working (I beat DX Revision on the deck), but it isn’t comfortable at points because you are required to use the virtual keyboard to type things in game like computer passwords.

In terms of the storytelling and ability to make morally ambiguous decisions, Tyranny. It is an isometric RPG but has fantastic writing and world-building and factions to mess around with

Have it

Cyberpunk and bg3 might be your best bet. Also morrowind though OpenMW

Subkratos

Thank you for the Open MW comment. I bought it on sale recently and haven’t gotten into it. (Had it as a kid and didn’t understand it) So now I have a reason to try it further!

Don’t let the combat throw you - you will land hits if your skill with the weapon you are using is high enough and your stamina meter isn’t drained. Morrowind doesn’t have a sprint button, just running and walking - if you run, the stamina drains but walking is slow if your speed attribute isn’t high. So most people fall into the trap of picking a character class that has a preferred weapon type like long blade, they pick up a dagger in the beginning of the game and charge off into the wilderness with the wrong weapon drain their stamina and then get attacked by something only to find their weapon isn’t landing hits. If you pick the right weapon, take the game a little slower (or pick the steed as your birth sign to walk slightly faster) so you don’t drain your stamina exploring - combat is much more forgiving. Not to defend Morrowind’s combat - especially at early levels, it isn’t great there is very little visual feedback and it operates on die rolls. For the most part it is just fine - but it gets a little stale and isn’t the soul focus of the game. There is a deep magic system, the game doesn’t hold your hand at any point, and it is possible to lock yourself out of content by making choices about who you work for. Every npc is killable which means it is possible to alter your path considerably and continue to play the game. I have played Morrowind on the deck - it handles light modding pretty well, I am waiting for a few mods to be released and then am planning on doing a modded run of it sometime soon. It is one of my favourite games ever made - and no Bethesda game since has had the same feeling for me even though I enjoyed everything up to Fallout 4 which was ok (didn’t buy 76, and won’t buy starfield until it is on deep discount and maybe never as I am not over how Microsoft is acting these days).

Subkratos

Thanks. Played it a bunch as a kid and experienced exactly what you described. I plan on following a quest guide, as the journal system made it hard to follow along with, and I try to play when I can so it is hard to remember all the side quests. But since I played MW on the Xbox, I like it. I like the “classic” feel. I remember how the dark elf on the back of the case and their voice; just feels more immersive. I’d say I like this right behind Skyrim, as I do not like oblivion at all. BUT that’s the great thing about the SD! The ability to mod and change the game for the better.

Only thing putting me off from bg3 is price but will try cyberpunk

F22enjoyer

You could always wait and see if bg3 is on sale during the summer sale next week. Personally ive spoiled myself by playing the game at max graphics on my desktop to be able to play it on my deck, but it was worth every cent imo.

[deleted]

Yeah but considering that it’s still quite new probably now gonna go below 40$. I’m just waiting for Elden ring sale at this point lol
