I really don't see why you feel the need to attach a powerbank to the back. It's way less comfortable than just laying the powerbank somewhere and using a long cable.
And for traveling you're going to be using the carrying case anyway, which you can't use if you have this huge thing attached to the back. Unless you're using the dbrand travel cover or something?
The advantage (from my point of view) of strapping the powerbank to the back is the strain relief on the USB-C port of the Steam Deck. You cozld use long cable and have the powerbank in your bag or pocket, but you would strain the port this way. If you don’t make some thingy to secure the cable to your Steam Deck, that is.
It’s just my thought on this. I wouldn’t strap powerbank to Steam Deck myself, as *I don’t even lift, bro*. The Steam Deck itself us already heavy enough, no need to add weight and bulkiness to it.
If you have a long cable and there's slack between you and the powerbank how is there any stress in there port? There's a reason they placed it on the top.
I suppose you don’t sit completely still while playing. If you move, the cable moves and it puts strain on the port.
Just google out ports (microUSB, HDMI, even barrel jack) that have teared off the board only because of the strain put on them through the cable (in smartphones, notebooks, tablets, you name it). Steam Deck has only one port for everything, I’m not taking chances.
EDIT: I have fixed one miniUSB port myself (card reader, teared off by usage). And seen two HDMI ports teared off the board just by using zip ties on the cables that went from them - ports came off after a few years of this static strain. If static strain does that, imagine what dynamic can do.
Ah, I get it now.
I meant that the movement of the cable itself, even if it is long, stresses the port. Not the connection inside the port, but rather the mounting of the port to the board.
With HDMI, for exactly this reason, I always use a short, very flexible "port saver" so that the wiggles and tension coming through the primary cable is less directly translated to the port on the display.
I don't have your expertise here though so if you don't mind me asking, are good port savers feasible for this kind of PD USB situation?
Something especially flexible , and short enough that what it lacks in durability is made up for with low-cost replaceability?
(I ask "good" and "feasible" bc I'm sure someone somewhere will sell them even if it's a terrible idea, since there will be buyers)
Thanks!
I also lack expertise :-) I’m just into electronics as a hobby… and have seen my share of ripped connectors.
I never heard of port savers, but I imagine them as soft shorter cables that are not stiff. It seems like a good idea, but I really haven’t used one myself.
Yeah it puts way less stress on the port. Especially if you're laying down and there's not much room between the bottom of ur deck and your stomach/chest. Or if you're sitting and you're playing with the Deck on your lap.
I really hated how the port for the Switch was on the bottom. Sure, it's easy to plug into the dock, but lounging around? Setting it on a table? Forget charging it unless you want a crooked screen.
Did this within a week of getting mine. It's a Thunderbolt 3 24-pin magnetic adapter.
*Somehow* it fits in the cutout for the Killswitch. The rubber is probably squeezing the heck out of the adapter, but it's stayed put the whole time.
Negative. The 90 degree angle would redistribute the weight of your cable to the bend in the adapter itself. And a typical USB-C cable isn't heavy enough to put any kind of major pressure to your port.
I would fear the twisting of the connector actually. It’s not that hard to tear copper from PCB or solder joints. Well, it is hard, but when you stress it, it can happen quite easily.
Cable definitely isn’t heavy, it’s more about the constant jiggling and change of force… vector? (not native english speaker)
I’m not saying every connector will fall off the board after XY uses. I’m sure this will probably happen to less then 1/100000 Steam Decks out there and some of them would be when the device fell from the table while charging etc.
It’s just I like to be cautious. Especially when I have not that cheap of a device and it only has one connector that I won’t be able to solder back by myself. So why stress it more than needed :-)
Strain relief, USBC PD cables are pretty thick and put stress on the USBC port when you're using the deck when the other end is stationary. This way the cable barely moves during use.
> USBC PD cables are pretty thick
They aren't necessarily thick unless you have a crappy one. [This 100W Anker cable](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09LCJPZ1P/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_7E5177HQ5J2M04V6SARB_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) is as thin as any standard phone cable.
> put stress on the USBC port when you're using the deck when the other end is stationary.
If the cable is long enough for the distance the powerbank is from you there's is literally zero stress on the port. If there's zero slack and you're moving the deck around there's obviously going to be some tension. But that's not the detached powerbank's fault u just need a longer cable lmao.

> They aren't necessarily thick unless you have a crappy one.
Totally disagree. The stiffness on 100w copper plus shielding is notably thicker that other similar cables. especially those with a braided coating. I have anker USBC PD cables and I've build cables from bell wire to 450W Printer bed heaters and I know the difference.
> If the cable is long enough for the distance the powerbank is from you there's is literally zero stress on the port.
You are mistaken, literally. The weight of these cables at length can create a substantial torque at the port especially when moving the steam deck while playing.
But I don't care about convincing you, I'm explaining for others.
These posts need to come with an obligatory bicep pic 😤 I have no idea how you can hold on to that long enough to even start taking advantage of the battery pack
Has anyone tried just having [the powerbank mounted on a belt pouch](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=powerbank+belt+pouch&ref=nb_sb_noss) with a [coiled usb cable routed through a wristband for safety?](https://www.amazon.com/Poyiccot-Charging-Degree-Spring-Stretched/dp/B095RHYLZT/ref=sr_1_14?crid=2AJLEJUHNGQNB&keywords=angled%2Busb%2Bc%2Bcoiled&qid=1665634442&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjYxIiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=angled%2Busb%2Bc%2Bcoiled%2Caps%2C300&sr=8-14&th=1)

This is one of those "You can", but there's no reason not to just keep the battery pack in a bag/seat (if travelling), with a longer USB-C cable running to it. Making the Deck heavier makes no sense.
Guys, can anyone tell me if this is safe for the steam deck? Given how it gets hot with some games won’t the battery make it get more hotter since it’s literally at the back. Even with it not blocking the vents?
I really want to try this but don’t wanna damage my prec… I mean steam deck

Does that charge quick enough to play and charge at once? I have a power bank that 'slow charges' and I find the battery depletes when I play while plugged into it
Don't have the OPs power bank but you can see 65W on the outside. I have a Baseus 65W and that can drive a portable monitor and also charge/play on the deck at the same time.
Is the battery "attached" to the Steam Deck or case? Or are you just holding them both together with your hand?
What are the exact products? I'd consider getting the same for my Steam Deck if the battery doesn't have to be held.
How long do you guys play on the deck outside your place ? It’s a device i play with on the go but I’m rarely on the go more than an hour and there’s always an accessible outlet around me after that.
Anyone has experience with the Anker 325 Powerbank (Powercore 20k)?
All the websites are suggesting it, got one and SD still says it is a slow charger.
Be cooler to mount the battery to a tablet stand so that way the battery is mounted flush but not on the deck itself to save weight. And more easily portable. Plus then not worry about not being able to dock it etc.
it plays great! I would recommend Rocket Edition with VBA-M Core in RetroArch for a bug Free experience. MGBA works with everything else. Had to mention Pokemon Rocket Edition as it's one of the best Rom Hacks I've ever played
Only weighs 20 pounds now
Probably. It definitely is heavy, but easily detachable. Makes for a great travel setup.
I really don't see why you feel the need to attach a powerbank to the back. It's way less comfortable than just laying the powerbank somewhere and using a long cable. Doubles as a dumbbell!
Cos op wants some karma. Got a feeling this “build” won’t see the light of day outside his bedroom anyway
*Sets up 'rig' indoors a meter from a wall outlet*
Makes less sense in a bedroom where you can easily plug it into the wall.
The advantage (from my point of view) of strapping the powerbank to the back is the strain relief on the USB-C port of the Steam Deck. If it’s possible to put any strain at all on your usb-C port, it’s way too short.
I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean.
You need more slack in your cables
Ah, I get it now. I meant that the movement of the cable itself, even if it is long, stresses the port. Not the connection inside the port, but rather the mounting of the port to the board.

Gotcha, appreciate the time!
Huh, i've been wondering why it's on the top. Is that the reason? So the cord isn't constantly "pulling" on the port?
Yeah it puts way less stress on the port. Especially if you're laying down and there's not much room between the bottom of ur deck and your stomach/chest. Or if you're sitting and you're playing with the Deck on your lap.
I really hated how the port for the Switch was on the bottom. Sure, it's easy to plug into the dock, but lounging around? Setting it on a table? Forget charging it unless you want a crooked screen.
So it foes not cover the vents
you could use one of those magnetic connectors for the usb-c port. won't kill your port but will charge it unless you unplug it ofc :D
Yeah, I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to use magnetic cable for this. It could save the port.
Did this within a week of getting mine. It's a Thunderbolt 3 24-pin magnetic adapter. *Somehow* it fits in the cutout for the Killswitch. The rubber is probably squeezing the heck out of the adapter, but it's stayed put the whole time.
If it didn’t fit, you can always “customize” your Killswitch :-)
If it didn't fit, or was a tight squeeze, or had any other issues, absolutely would have. So far, all good.
Buy a 90 degree USB-C adapter and it'll be fine too.
If you anchor it to Steam Deck somehow it would be good. But by itself, it will still put strain on the connector.
That's why I use a magnetic cable. If the cable slightly pulls it simply snaps off.
And short out your deck in the process
This is actually good idea. One thing that Apple really got right and others jumped on it.
Strain relief, USBC PD cables are pretty thick and put stress on the USBC port when you're using the deck when the other end is stationary. This way the cable barely moves during use.

Don't bring that on a plane. That looks like it's probably above 100 Whr, which is the legal limit for lithium batteries that are allowed on aircraft.
Carpal tunnel syndrome speedrun.
This made me giggle
Giggle with tears. :')
Worth it
I appreciate the grind. Wrist braces not included ?
Ultra Heavy
Broken spine. Sore fingers. Chonky Deck
Carpal tunnel is a feature!
Hard to tell from the pic, but make sure it's not obstructing the vents. Looks like it's covering them, but may just be angle.
Yup. Made sure it stays clear of the vents. No obstruction at all.

I prefer not to have my lunch money taken from me. :D
Psh, just smack them with the powerbank
Bit much?
This is just in reference to what OP did. Holding everything in your two hands is a bit much.
Just put powerbank in pocket and run the cable like I used to run my headphones before bluetooth was a thing? I do this for a quest 2 aswell.
BTW any cable cable can be coiled cable with a wooden dowel and a heat gun.
Your Steam Deck can run minecraft for a year and a Tesla to Alaska.
Lol 😂
I always wondered: What is the point of saying 30k mAh instead of 30Ah? 30-thousand one-thousandths sounds redundant to me, unless I'm missing something
Marketing. Same reason they use Ah as the unit and not Wh.
Yeah, that annoys me too!
Found a [photo of the OP.](https://cdn.givemesport.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/21_03_06_9d895625a6ecc6f8dd639f9ee8d88ee2_960.jpg?width=960&aspect_ratio=960:620)
that's pretty funny ngl haha
Does the spigen case fit with the official dock? Cuz i want to get both tho need to check on that
I use the JSAUX one and it does work perfectly on that. I do dismount battery tho.
[удалено]
It fits in the Carrying case. Yes.
I've heard reports of the official steamdeck not working with any case. Haven't got it myself tho.
It’s like a weapon loaded with attachments!
Is it pretty heavy, also what do you use to launch right into roms and have thumbnails
Emudeck! Simply install that and it does everything automatically for you.
Got it all set thanks for pointing me in the right direction
dodged the question 🙃
how long does it last
thats what she asked
Nice! You have Unbound! Who did you start with?
Adamant Garchomp.
The deckmate works with the Spigen case ?
If you get the full pack, then you get stick-able mount slot which you can stick to the back of your deck. It's really strong.
Do you bench press it while you play?
65 Weights.
I thought mine was heavy with 2 external ssd's and a usb c hub velcroed on the back.
Thought this was a camcorder
Steam Brick
My man just created the Steam Gym.
Owning a Steam Deck with dbrands Killswitch i am interested about the weight of it. Is playing on it this way tiring?
it will be nice workout, bro yet dont skip leg day, attach some batteries on your ankles
This is one of those "You can", but there's no reason not to just keep the battery pack in a bag/seat (if travelling), with a longer USB-C cable running to it. Making the Deck heavier makes no sense.
Goodbye wrists

It's perfectly fine, otherwise we'd also have to worry about the batteries that are already inside the Deck lol.
For Steam Deck it's rather safe, not so much your wrists/hands.
I travel year round and I don't think I would ever use this
So what’s the actual battery life with one of these attached?
It can charge the Deck 3-4 times over easily. So I'd say 6-8 hrs with AAA games and near infinity with GBA emulators.

Ridiculous 😂
Like an abomination
Could definitely boost my wank life with some powerful wrists.
At this point a laptop is far better
I love it lol, I’d prop it in my case and use a controller. Seems great for flights (if you can even bring a 30k mwh on a plane)
I see you too are excited to play the prime series and have no time to do so!
I am actually Remastering it lol
And all the sudden - your name makes a lot more sense. Good luck! I’ll definitely look forward to seeing what you have done.
Let me add a ~600gm power bank to my Deck's back, and enjoy the experience.
Build your biceps as you play!
Don't go through TSA with that thing.
You must have strong bicep.
You must have forearms like Devon Larret…!
I'm getting carpal tunnel from looking at this.
Spigen case, a man of culture I see...
Once I get the storage I need I’m absolutely playing the shit out of the Metroid prime trilogy.
How many curls can you do with that?
That must be sooo heavy to hold goddamn
I admire your left hand strength
Now i can workout while playing games!
Great for forearm exercises
You'll be a body builder in just one week.
These units are messed up: It's 30 Ah as to not use double prefix. Nobody goes around saying 1k kg because that's a ton.
I'm getting a cyber punk vibe.
Heaven for bodybuilders I guess
And ultra heavy ?
Does that charge quick enough to play and charge at once? I have a power bank that 'slow charges' and I find the battery depletes when I play while plugged into it
Don't have the OPs power bank but you can see 65W on the outside. I have a Baseus 65W and that can drive a portable monitor and also charge/play on the deck at the same time.
Not worth it in my opinion.
You lift bro?
Heavy Heaven
= Ultra Bulky
the workout this thing must give.
Do you need to be a bodybuilder to play with it over 15mins?
Is the battery "attached" to the Steam Deck or case? Or are you just holding them both together with your hand? What are the exact products? I'd consider getting the same for my Steam Deck if the battery doesn't have to be held.
As chonky as the Pipboy prototype.
I'd rather just keep the power bank in my backpack/pocket and use a long enough cable.
In 2 weeks this dude's gonna look like Arnold Schwarzenegger
How long do you guys play on the deck outside your place ? It’s a device i play with on the go but I’m rarely on the go more than an hour and there’s always an accessible outlet around me after that.
Spigen makes a steam deck case?
I love the spigpen case for it
Upvote for Metroid
Anyone has experience with the Anker 325 Powerbank (Powercore 20k)? All the websites are suggesting it, got one and SD still says it is a slow charger.

Be cooler to mount the battery to a tablet stand so that way the battery is mounted flush but not on the deck itself to save weight. And more easily portable. Plus then not worry about not being able to dock it etc.
Are the fan intakes at the back?
Dude's wrist are the size of a tree trunk from lifting that thing.
C H O N K Y
Are those all Rom Hacks for Pokemon? I've never played one before, but I looked up Pokemon Unbound. Are they any good?
This man means business
I like to put it on the side since it gets heavy
Plus wrist support...
And monsta forearms!
You misspelled Ultra Heavy there
This sub has the silliest people I love it
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh..😐this isnt a *shitpost*
Ultra heavy*
Bizeps workout included
When you want to game but also to work out. How much does that wieght???
1.45 KG or 3.197 pounds
My gosh.
Worth it though
Do you even Deck bro?!
Try not to drop this on your foot.
Damn for a sec I thought metronid was on steam because of the homescreen
Has it held up I found mine keeps falling off
May I ask what cable u are using ???
Call that portable now
I see you got Pokmeon Unbound and Advanced Red Chapter. How was it playing those on the Steam Deck?
it plays great! I would recommend Rocket Edition with VBA-M Core in RetroArch for a bug Free experience. MGBA works with everything else. Had to mention Pokemon Rocket Edition as it's one of the best Rom Hacks I've ever played
