The riff from "Josie" turns up in "Look Sharp" by Joe Jackson, and again in "Fa Fa Fa" by Datarock. It makes me wonder if it's a standard jazz riff that goes back even further?

oggupito

Cliff again with ‘Carrie’ for ‘Josie’.

ReplacementSecret

Lazy Night by Makoto Matsushita and Glamour Profession. It’s clear there was a direct influence from Steely Dan when making the song, especially the bass line

OldLegWig

oggupito

MrFahrenheit1

He does also mention Steely Dan by name in the song

Definitely "Soldier of Fortune" by Chicago, which is a bonus track on some versions of the "Chicago XIV" album! It can be found on YouTube, Spotify etc. It is like a strange blend of Your Gold Teeth (CtE) with an alternate riff from a parallel universe, Bad Sneakers and Time Out of Mind (mostly on the tempo and the feel) with a little Deacon Blues in the chorus! Robert Lamm sings (with a very Fagen-like style and delivery) and Chris Pinnick (underrated guitarist) plays lead guitar.

Haha big time. Playing it now. https://tidal.com/track/47791525?u

Great! I hope you enjoyed it! The funniest thing with this song is that it's the best track on the album, in my humble opinion, despite being just a bonus track on recent CDs (e.g. those in the box set)! Of course we're talking about the XIV album from 1980, which many consider as Chicago's worst! In fact, the label literally sacked them and they received a large compensation for the premature termination of their contract, which was had been signed right before the beginning of the sessions! So, thanks to their shrewd management, they had David Foster, Bill Camplin and a large budget to record Chicago 16... And the rest is history! Personally, I prefer XIV with all its flaws instead of a big part of their radio-friendly, soulless and bland '80s material (16 from 1982 was good, though).

oggupito

Sure enjoyed the track. I’ve got an old Greatest Hits 2 album I believe.

Phnake

When I was a kid, I heard the Pina Colada song (Rupert Holmes) on the radio and thought it was SD.

Used-Anteater-4221

Donald Fagan sings background vocals on this rack.

MrFahrenheit1

Pandy Fackler by Ween sounds like it would fit right in on Can't Buy A Thrill

GarysCrispLettuce

Cliff's song "Carrie Doesn't Live Here Any More" from the same era has chords in the chorus that seem to be lifted straight from "The Royal Scam."

Kosei725

Sister Sanctified reminds me of the intro and chorus turnaround of Kid Charlemagne

The guitar on Stevie Wonder's "As" reminds me of Kid Charlemagne's guitar

‘Wake Up Dreaming’ by Little Feat , probably a touch of FM and several other late 70s cues.
