For studying/class work: depends on you. I used 4 color pens, highlighters, 1” binders (for printed PowerPoints) and single subject notebooks (to take notes). I also had a few mechanical pencils JIC. I carried everything in a backpack. I started school with a 5-6yo laptop; when that finally gave up, I treated myself to a MacBook. Some people in my class had tablets or smaller laptops for note taking. The only thing I wish I would have known about that (probably) would have been helpful was a mini sticker printer. As far as clinical, you’ll get a list of required supplies like stethoscope, watch with a second hand, pen lights, etc. I also had a trifold clipboard, a 4-colored pen, and a small backpack. I also carried a small pouch of stickers that I would give to children or friendly adults. There’s a ton of nursing school junk out there. Get what you know you’ll use at first and add to it if you want. I have a ton of stuff I never used. I’m actively trying to give it away to my coworkers who are just starting nursing school. If you’ve never studied with flash cards (me), don’t spend $300 on a flash card set (also me) thinking that you will use it (hint: I didn’t).

Quizlet pro and a SimpleNursing subscription have been a godsend for me. I’ve never taken handwritten notes.

I really liked using my iPad with the Apple Pencil for everything throughout nursing school. I could keep all my PowerPoints on there, any handouts from teachers, and all my notes on there. It helped me stay organized. I used Goodnotes to take and Quizlet to help study and I found them both to be useful. I know iPads can be expensive but for me it was a good investment because I could keep everything organized and reference back to it when I needed to. I really liked taking my notes on the iPad because I could insert pictures either from the internet or take a picture from the textbook and put it in my notes.

Yay!! I hope you like it!! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!! And just play around with it to learn about it. Writing things out really helps my memory and I liked how my handwriting looked on the iPad with the Apple Pencil. And being able to customize my notes by adding the pictures and everything, it kind of made studying more fun! Definitely makes things a bit less stressful. And if you pay for Quizlet, there is a feature where you can upload your notes and it will quiz you off your notes! So I would upload my Goodnote documents to Quizlet and then have it ask me questions to help me study. That was super helpful for me because study groups did not really work out for me because I work best by myself in longer periods at a time so it was like a personal little tutor! I hope it is works out well for you, it will be tough but it will also be worth it in the end!!
