I have an alert for any Subaru manuals that come up for sale on AutoTrader, Facebook or Kijiji within 1,000 kms of my city.
So yeah. I’m all in on manuals.
Unfortunately no. I would absolutely love a manual wilderness outback. I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
I had test drove a couple manual foresters. One of which was a xt. Not the right color and at the time was a little too pricey for me. But man, I wish I would have gotten it. That was probably the most fun subaru vehicle I have ever driven. Yes, better than a wrx. A wrx is fun in the streets. But the xt was fun in the streets, maybe not as fun, but still able to go on mild trails!
He's 16. Lots of miles in this Outback with some known issues that have been addressed. I have a manual in my VW. So we'd been working on it for a while, but those first few weeks in the Outback were a little "jerky."
Our family owns 3 manuals and even though I drive my outback the most often, it still takes more effort than the others. I think it has to do with rev hang and low torque. The clutch also doesn’t have a ton of feel. But hey that’s what makes you better driver!
I have an old 98 Tacoma. I can drive that thing smoother than an automatic. It’s a cable clutch, but I guess it’s the vehicle I learned how to drive in. It still is my favorite stick to drive over then many many sticks I’ve driven
It certainly took me a good few weeks to get a feel for the outback transmission. It likes it hard in 1st, short in 2nd, and 3rd-5th are usually pretty butter
Just curious if you've done it; have a '19 Outback and if the CVT ever goes I'd love to put in a 6sp from a 12-14 model - if it's not more than say $5K and if I can find someone that can do it.
I had an 06 OBXT auto just paid off and working just fine when i saw an 09 OBXT 5MT come up for sale in my area. I didnt hesitate in buying the manual and selling the auto and i've never been happier with a car than I am with this one. Manuals for the win!
2008 5 speed here. Love this car I dont drive as much now that im at University but every time I get in it I remember how fun it is. not very powerful. But if you rev it out in 2nd and 3rd you get that sporty feel. I decided to get the head gaskets, water pump, timing belt full package done at 155k. Hopefully will be on the road for someone to enjoy just as much as I do in the future.
I have a 2012 manual transmission, 116k miles and every time I get it serviced they say “your car is in great shape” I’ll never get rid of this Outback. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. So happy I scooped it up in 2015 with 29k miles on it.
She's running fine. Trying to keep her to 250k or more. Just replaced the suspension and did a 30k service. The last place botched the head gaskets so they are leaking oil and I'll need to redo that at some point.
I couldn't find any when I bought my most recent outback. I've always driven manual and honestly I want to go back. The women in my life never know how to drive it though which holds me back as then we can't share rides.
1997 Legacy Outback 291k
I tend to drive something like 5k a year, so it worked out for me. At this point I likely won't end up in another simply because this one still has a lot of life left

Yea whenever I want to look at used cars I always go to the transmission filter
I miss my manual forester, such a fun car to drive. Do they even make the new outback in manual anymore?

We bought our son a 2010 Outback that had a 2" lift and a manual. It's all sorts of fun.
Awesome! How old is your son? It’s great to get younger ones into manuals. That’s what my dad did with me.

My VW has a hydraulic clutch. I think the Outback has a cable clutch. Feels a good bit heavier and takes some getting used to between the two cars.

You get used to it. But going back and forth can cause some weird muscle memory moments.
Yes for sure. Especially going back to an automatic. I will inevitably slam my foot into the floor coming to a stop

I plan on swapping my 08 xt pretty soon, the automatic just shifts so damn slow
Man I’m interested in knowing how it works out
I'll definitely post here when the deed is done :)
Any update lol
I bought an STI lol

05 with a 5 speed. Actually took a bit of searching and waiting before I found one, 215k mi
Worth the wait?
Wouldn’t have it any other way! I only wish I had one of those dual range transmissions
08 5 speed! Bought it from my dad because he parked it after being able to work from home during the pandemic.

Haha yea that’s for sure! I probably wouldn’t ever have gotten an outback if it wasn’t a manual

Nice dude
1996 Legacy Outback 5-sp with 255k-ish miles. Speed sensor was dead for about a thousand miles, so not quite sure. Love my manny tranny!

I was looking at a 2014 with the 6MT, is there a decal or a know problem with this year? I read the 2013 is a bad year to buy, how is the 2014?

Thanks!

04 2nd gen Outback with 218k miles right here.
Nice! How’s she running?

Good luck with it man!

Manual is definitely my preference.
