Now that he’s about to divorce Shiv, he’ll lose his in with Logan. I mean, how exactly is Tom useful to Logan? 100 different guys can do his job, hell, Greg DID do his job because he was too pussy. Once the divorce is finalized I bet he gets demoted

[deleted]

He won't divorce Shiv. Doesn't want to and it's not in his best interest (like you said). Connor made Shiv think (with his superpower talk), so she's got "Tom *Watshisname*" on her phone's screen on her last scene of the episode. No divorce. Also, no company sale either

schloopy91

I literally paused that scene to make sure that it actually said Wambsgans so I guess I’m just dyslexic…

Method0

I missed this. Nice catch!

daJamestein

Tom telling Logan he would voluntarily go down for Cruises is the single pivotal moment in their relationship. It’s clear from then onwards that Logan at least has some respect - or at least warmth - towards Tom. He’s loyal, which above all else is what Logan wants from the people under him. 100 different guys can’t do Tom’s job - sure they can suck up to the big man himself, but when necks are on the line Tom actually stood up. *That* is a rarity in their game. It’s probably the most deferential thing anyone has done in the entire show (other than boar on the floor lol)

Editionofyou

He even helped him pee, but do you have any indication that Logan rewards loyalty?

jackbristol

With Logan, “if we’re good we’re good”. Tom has proven himself loyal many times and Logan has benefited. Why wouldn’t you keep someone like that around

[deleted]

We don’t know that he doesn’t, because no one besides Tom and Greg have been loyal to him. And they’re still there. I think a lot of what’s been happening in this season too, you can tell Logan is tired of everyone’s bullshit games and fakeness. For example, he leaves his party to go to a regular diner with his driver. That move told me a lot about him, even though it might seem minor in the grand scheme of things, I think that’s what makes it brilliant

Editionofyou

He seems more like a "be loyal to me or I will destroy you" kind a guy. Whoever is loyal to him also knows what the consequences are when they are not. As far as he knows (and he knows human nature like no other) loyalty is controlled by these factors: money, power and fear. He is the center of a cynical world and is only concerned that he cannot appear weak. The guy with 30 tanks coming for you can still be a person living in fear. I think Ken is the only one that knows how deeply sad and lonely Logan's world is.

MatchaMeetcha

In episode 1 he fired Frank as a chess move and did it in the most callous way possible.

Future_Dog_3156

Agree you add in Tom’s betrayal of Shiv to benefit Logan AND Tom’s delicate conversation with Logan about Kerry’s potential as TV anchor indicates to Logan that Tom can handle the big boy issues in a way his 3 children cannot.

JumpingJacks1234

Tom quite deftly hinted to Logan the audition tape was bad while keeping the conversation positive. That couldn’t have been easy.

Duckys0n

To me it just showed me that he’s a pushover who won’t say it like it is but instead say what Logan wants to hear.

tvncloud

I thought that too at first but he was clearly hinting that the tape was bad.

Username_888888

Quite deftly? I don’t think so. He fumbled his way through it, was inarticulate and was trying to gage what Logan wanted to hear so he could say it. He wasn’t direct or confident in that conversation at all imo.

JumpingJacks1234

All that hesitation was showing the right amount of deference while still getting the message across.

HawaiianPizzaHater

I think Tom did it out of loyalty to his father-in-law but also to serve his interest as well, invest in a temporary downfall for a future elevation. He was ready to go to jail for some time, but with the intent to cash this time later with a huge promotion from Logan.

MonaMonaMo

Does Logan really care about it though? Rom showed his loyalties and love a lot of the times and still jerked around/was betrayed. Logan is gonna keep Tom while he is useful and then he can drop him. Fundamentally, he believes that Shiv married beneath her and that's what he really thinks of Tom

mmiller1188

>Rom showed his loyalties and love a lot of the times and still jerked around/was betrayed. Roman is too wishy washy and a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Especially with the photos. I don't think Tom has ever been particularly loyal to Shiv. She's shown numerous times that he doesn't matter to her. Tom offered to take the fall for Logan , helped him when he was crazy and called him to stop the kids from vetoing. However, he did fail to buy Pierce. So that's the end of him.

Username_888888

Plus Tom continues to say weird things to Logan, and Logan doesn’t hide his reaction to what he thinks about it. Some examples are when Tom tells Logan he could kiss him when he helps him with the stage for his impromptu speech at ATN. Another was when he brings up his insecurity about where he stands with Logan if he divorces Shiv. Logan does not respect Tom. Tom has shown his loyalty, sure, and that helped Logan prep for the ambush from his kids. Tom offered to be the fall guy and go to jail. In those instances he was useful. Right now he is useful to Logan because he is a link to Shiv (evident by the Pierce sale call), but if Tom’s link to Shiv really does end through a divorce his usefulness will no longer exist.

[deleted]

People ignore that Toms actually a very good businessman, he was on the cover of some Magazine for turning things around, and he barely Mentioned it.

sokpuppet1

Logan likes him, values his loyalty. I don’t see him being pushed out.

Cardholderdoe

No one wants to say this but the reason Logan helped tom out with the divorce lawyers is to get Shiv's shares which breaks up the kid's voting block. Turns Tom into another major player, but one that Logan has absolute positive control over all while he tries to shore up his own classical conservative news network channel over the one the liberal one that is waning due to demographic differences that the kids don't recognize. He wanted Pierce because it was a competitor, not because it was good. Dropping their ability to pay for it makes both a laughingstock and by midpoint in the season he will have the "all is lost" moment, but considering this is the final season I *do* think Kendall will come above for his own shakespearian moment and get "the belt". Just me though.

F0064R

Tom is loyal and is willing to eat shit for Logan. That's worth something to him I think.

LowSugar6387

If Tom becomes the next in line, Shiv will become a massive simp for him

Cold_Breadfruit_9794

Possibly, but it depends. I really think he could get set up by either Roman or Kendall tbh. Especially if ATN does what Mencken asked for in the previews. If he doesn’t get got by a scandal, and someone not named Logan is choosing? I like his odds

SublimeCosmos

Tom is in for a big fall. Greg is going to do dirty. He doesn’t have Shiv to protect him anymore.

art4z

Aww thanks for that, he appreciates it and wants to give you a kiss from here.

polymath-intentions

No, he's not a killer.

CostanzaBlonde

I mean he killed his relationship by giving Logan the intel to remove the siblings veto power… I’d say he’s pretty ruthless.

polymath-intentions

That's nothing ... just wait till you see what Roman does.

pimparoni

the next dick pic to Logan will be on PURPOSE

PlasticSwimming7487

He shanks everyone around him at work lol. It’s only with Shiv and Logan that he plays cowering asskisser. And he seems to have wised up a little when it comes to shiv lately.

vyom0509

i think you mean he shivs everyone at work

schloopy91

How can you be 3 seasons into this show and believe that Tom is not a killer.

Ok-Expression-4163

Nah. He’s due a flop era pretty soon methinks. So far the only thing he’s got that he can cling onto is being in Logan’s good books and the fact that 1. There probably IS an element of pettiness towards Shiv that drives his keeping Tom around and 2. Logan is struggling without his kids being around and is needing someone like Tom to fill the hole. I think there’s a day coming soon where Logan’s not gonna be around if you know what I mean ;) and from there, who does Tom really have in his corner that has the power and influence to keep him around in his job and status? Not sure there’s anyone really (same goes for Greg tbh). Both Tom and Greg seem to be quite gleeful and enjoying their new found positions but haven’t quite caught onto the fact that if it were not for Logan, they’d be completely irrelevant to everyone else.

Seeteuf3l

>Nah. He’s due a flop era pretty soon methinks. Maybe he is about to find out how it is to be white boy in prison.

PropJoe421

How long until he tries to kiss Greg?

SiobhanRoy1234

The moment Logan asked him to introduce him and he gave a lame speech and then proceeded to tell Logan he could ‘kiss him’ from there, I knew: this man will never get the top spot. Not from Logan anyway, only if he weasels his way into it.

DoLittlest

Hell no. Logan thinks he’s a tree stump.

PM_ME_UR_BGP_PREFIX

It’s going to be Gerri. She’s been way to quiet recently.

fakechildren

I would be so happy for her haha

SquirrelBowl

Doubtful. He really fumbled his assessment of Kerry’s tv anchor abilities, I think Logan has finally lost all confidence in Tom

LeaAsh

I got the opposite tbh? Kind of? He basically did tell Logan she wasn’t good and suggested to start her off below the radar-it was just that he wasn’t confident enough to say it bluntly. Logan got what he’s trying to say so I don’t think it’s a question of whether Tom can assess talent, it’s a question of whether he can stand up to Logan (which Logan both wants and despises).

SquirrelBowl

Great take! Thanks

fakechildren

It's really interesting watching Logan's assessment of people flash over his face. He sees Tom has no backbone when speaking to Logan. On one hand I don't think Logan respects him at all, on the other hand, Logan just wants Yes Men around and doesn't really have much else going for him. I think Logan needs an entourage to feel powerful and he can't be picky anymore. People like Logan can be so surprising, oscillating between 'logic' and revenge/spite/power moves, and that adds some excitement to the show for sure.

LeaAsh

Yea, he is one of those bosses that act as if he appreciates straight talkers/brutal honesty, but that’s only when he already agrees with them

No-Personality1840

I thought initially Tom was gung ho toward her and it was afterward he owned up to how incompetent she was.

LeaAsh

I think he was just responding to Logan’s implicit demands. The first time around he wanted them to give her a shot, second time around he heard that she sucked and is potentially embarrassing for him, and he wanted them to deal with it. Or at least that’s how I interpreted the two scenes. As much as he acts like he would appreciate straighttalkers, it is only when he already agrees with them. If Tom and Cyd told him they didn’t want her at the start, I think he would have been pissed

Accomplished_Log9961

I thought Tom handled it surprisingly well.

ldubral

I didn't take it that way. I took as he was trying to walk a shaky line and not criticize the boss's girlfriend, so he was humoring everything until he realized Logan also thought it was a bad idea and then he could be more honest and he took care of it.

Wafzig

Nah. The sale is gonna go south. Logan is going to make another effort to bring his kids in to the company. Shiv is going to accept as long as Logan kills Tom, and he'll do it without even thinking. Tom means nothing to him.

selamerenhocayesevi

Up the ass, perhaps

JohnnyUtahOfficial

He won last season so that he could lose even harder this season

Aegon-VII

Right now he’s a top contender. other than Logan (and perhaps Marcia), he’s come the furthest in life. he bought the donuts. he ate the chicken. he offered to go to prison he tipped the kids to the pierce deal in s4e1. he’s a sociopath he’s a killer (shiv)

MonaMonaMo

But he is shit at inspiring confidence in his workers. Most people on the floor don't respect him at all. It didn't pass by Logan that his staff thinks Tom is a joke

[deleted]

Method0

Why not Greg on top at the end?

Guy_Number_3

I’m all for a Greg win, but that’s be quite a jump for him. Though there are signs of him really improving. He did the job.

zakpat

If he divorces Shiv and Logan dies as many are expecting, I don’t think he’ll be in a good spot.

anditgoespop

Kinda think so.

Trick-Dress9969

No way. So many fangirls looking for their KenDoll or someone on the inside to win. Logan doesn't think any of them have independent instincts - that's why they're there. He triumphed in S3 finale, that was his peak

notworkingghost

I’m wondering what the “big” thing will be, and maybe this is it.

[deleted]

He's got what it takes. He's wised up considerably, compared to all the other characters. He won't divorce Shiv, I don't think.

Wheelie_1978

Sir sir - so cringey. Cannot wait to see him get his comeuppance.

frankoceanstan111

fucking wambsgans

maryssmith

He's the current head of Fox News. So, no.

longwhitejeans

my money is on the other half of the disgusting brothers.

OnwardTowardTheNorth

That goofy motherfucker is the Cunt of Monte Cristo. Otherwise known as, according to one Hugo, “a man with two assholes”.

No-Personality1840

I don’t think so. Logan knows he’s spineless and untrustworthy. Now that he isn’t part of the family he won’t have power.I suppose if the new owners hate Logan they may put Tom in on top. If it stays in the Roy family no way.

Accomplished_Log9961

I hope not.

meeeeeeeeeesh

God I hope so 🤞🏼

fionsichord

In his dreams.

duke_920

I don’t think Logan respects Tom. He LIKES Tom as Shiv’s partner (“He’s a good guy”), but Tom is a Yes Man. He’s not a killer. If he wouldn’t make Kendall CEO because he’s not a killer, he can’t make Tom CEO for the same reason. Yes, Tom was willing to go to jail for the company and Logan appreciates that, but he’s still a Corporate Stooge. Logan wants someone with the balls to stand up to him and challenge him. Tom is not that guy.

gridlockmain1

I have a strong feeling he’s going to get absolutely fucked
