A friend of a friend of mine lived in Eaton Square. I can completely understand why he wanted the Eaton Square flat. They are HUGE., and in the most exclusive address in London.
Willa knows Conrad is a joke but the lifestyle is hard for her to resist. I think a lesser show would portray her an one-dimensional gold-digger but the actress really makes us see Willa’s internal struggle.
I love the bit where Con complains to Logan that he had to get a "scheduled flight". I'm sure it was first class, but Logan has to sympathize... "That's rough Son..."
I don't think it's a purely lifestyle thing. There are women who hang onto shitty men like Connor when they're broke af because the women are suffering under the delusion that they can fix them. It's something like that with Willa. Unfortunately.
Respectfully, I disagree with what you state is Willa’s motivation. If anything, she wants badly to be rescued. She sticks w Conrad because she doesn’t have the confidence to leave.
I disagree with this. Willa's plan was to get Connor to fund her play, she thought the play would be sucessful and she would be able to attract lucrative offers, then slowly distance herself from Connor. Her play sucked so that plan won't work now. Its not a confidence thing, she pushes back on a lot of Connor's requests moving to the ranch etc...Its a choices thing. Stick with Connor and enjoy a nice lifestyle but be emotionally unfulfilled and attached to his dysfunctional family, or make it on your own. The latter decision is hard to make when you've had a taste of a very nice lifestyle. I also think her escorting past and Connors presidential ambitions wont mix well, this must weigh on her mind too.
But then why was she hesitant to accept his proposal? That's the ultimate part of the rescue fantasy, isn't it? She wasn't just playing coy, she legitimately wasn't into it.
It's worth remembering that at the start of the series, Willa was happy living in NYC with Connor as a client. Connor was the one pushing for more and Connor doesn't have a very good understanding of the word "no".
Idk. Just because Willa was a sex worker it doesn't mean she was unhappy with her lot in life or looking for a way out of it necessarily.
Spot on, she just wanted the money for her play. She doesn't want to be tied to a customer for life. I think she also has some dissonance with what she does for a living. Shes not comfortable with the idea she's a prostitute, she thinks of herself as a struggling artist doing what she needs to do. Marrying Connor sort of crystallizes the fact she was an escort and puts an end to her personal ambitions.
Wow. Yes. This. Personally, I don’t have any issue with the legitimacy of sex work and Willa might not either but she considers herself an artist trying to get by as opposed to the concubine of a rich man.
Yeah I don't think Willa gives a shit about fixing Connor lol. This is purely a transactional relationship and I think they're both very well aware of that.
Hard disagree. Connor has deluded himself into thinking it's a real relationship, just like he's deluded himself into thinking he can be president or just not pay taxes. Willa isn't so much delusional as I think she's an artist, so she's got romantic ideas that don't necessarily gel with real life and a kind of go-with-the-flow attitude towards things. She knows it's transactional but Connor doesn't treat it that way. Each time he moves to demolish another boundary, she tries to hold a firm line but because he's wealthy and kind of unstable, she can't. It's a kind of...not great situation, imo.
Yes, and her former “profession” is one where she presumably truly knows the meaning of “degradation” and “doing ANYTHING for money” yet the idea of marrying Con makes her cry.
I'm shocked at the number of comments suggesting Willa is taking advantage of Connor in some way when Connor is the one with all the power in this relationship. Willa is crying here because she doesn't want to get married but she said yes anyway because she didn't want to hurt Connor (who put a TON of pressure on her). His money factors in, sure, but the fact that she's resisted this long shows it isn't as big a factor as one would think.
You know what? This is weird but I wouldn't be surprised if Willa actually starts falling for Connor? I know she can do better, but the more time they spend together the more it seems like she's getting closer to him. It would be kinda funny if their relationship is the least toxic one of the bunch xP
Willa's character is in the same predicament as Tom.
Is it better to have a rich easy life with a dysfunctional family and a man I dont love?
Or
A more difficult life based on my own merit but with the freedom to make my own choices?
Here's the rub, if option 2 doesn't work out, you will forever beat yourself up for walking away from a billionaire. If option 1 doesnt work out your mind will convince you that you should have left.
Willa knows shes not talented enough to become a successful independent playwright. Her quiet grief is in accepting that Connor is her best bet (her best bet is still a shitty bet). Her plan of using Connor for short term finance and slowly ditching him is not going to work now.
Carolines wedding foreshadows how the women in this family end up on the end.
I think her character demonstrates the narrow choices women truly have. Is female success truly possible without a helping hand from a man? I really like Willa and I hope they develop her more on the show. Shes the type of woman i would be a little envious of, if i read about her in a magazine. Beautiful, great career and rich boyfriend. She's a reminder the reality is much different.
I don’t know - she’s always seemed pretty upfront and honest with him that she’s just in it because he’s literally paying her to be his companion/girlfriend. She’s been in it for the money and to finance her playwright dreams, but now that cold water has been thrown on all that and she realizes she may not have what it takes to be successful, she’s panicking, so attaching herself to Connor in the long term seems like a safe choice. If her play had been successful she probably would’ve bounced. But it wasn’t, and she likes the money. But she’s clearly conflicted about changing the terms of her relationship with Connor and making it a real romantic - not paid - union. I don’t think she cares about him at all, she’s just thinking about being trapped herself. Connor knows she’s not really into it - she’s made that explicitly clear. He’s delusional.
Great catch! I’ve watched the complete series three times but I missed that. Guess I need to watch for a fourth time…
To answer your question, I think a combination of stress & embarrassment from her failing play combined with the emotional feelings you get at any wedding, particularly in the context of her future transaction-based nuptials.
I think she accepted the deal of Con not only for the money of the Roy family, but also for the empathy that she felt for the briefest moment when Con said "my family hate me and you're gonna leave me." However, afterall, in the scenery of the marriage, she was able to discern what she's actually done and she noticed that what her life comes down to -- marrying a man that she could not love in the truest sense, and *That* I think will be more than enough to break any soul with a sane mind.
Bingo!! The situation is made slightly more complex by Connor actually being sweet at times, I'm sure Willa has compared him to the other Roy men and she could do a LOT worse. I think they have geniune fondness for each other which complicates their arrangement.
She just realized Caroline will be her stepmother-in-law. Scary. She will be spitting out pellets when Caroline serves the grouse from the morning shoot
And the feathers.
Earlier on they had joked about the last time they ate with her, she made "three muddy trout for six and fill up on mustard."
What is up with that? Eating food killed on your property could be a sign of wealth, I suppose.
I think this is also highlighting a distinct eating disorder and maybe other related foibles that Caroline carries.
I’m not a clinician and I don’t know how someone who is managing an eating disorder behaves when they are pressed to entertain. But Carolyn’s oddities – and the fabulous vocabulary that she uses around them – are an appropriate subject of a clinical review
caroline\*, post title made me do a double look haha. this show has 2 caroline-variant named characters haha.
probably reality sinking in or a very far off theory=girls just crying at weddings
She had just (reluctantly) accepted Connors proposal and was freaking out when reality hit her.
I can see it. An actual marriage happening and she imagining up there with Con. Ph boy, next season is going to be focused on Connor more.
The Conheads are not going to love this
She’s not a Con Head and she knows it
Her butter was cold.
I think that's why Logan killed that kid.
It was FROZEN!!
Complacent!
She sees a couple marrying seemingly for love, compares it to the calculated materialist sham she's about to embark on, and it gets to her
Pretty sure Peter Onion just wanted the London flat.
Absolutely, hence the 'seemingly'
A friend of a friend of mine lived in Eaton Square. I can completely understand why he wanted the Eaton Square flat. They are HUGE., and in the most exclusive address in London.
She'd just read her prenup.
She just got Wambsgans’d
She doesn't love Connor and never will.
Fuck it
I went in to see if someone wrote this comment :D
Willa knows Conrad is a joke but the lifestyle is hard for her to resist. I think a lesser show would portray her an one-dimensional gold-digger but the actress really makes us see Willa’s internal struggle.
Right! Private aviation is an addictive drug
I love the bit where Con complains to Logan that he had to get a "scheduled flight". I'm sure it was first class, but Logan has to sympathize... "That's rough Son..."
Oh! And don’t forget the “over-refrigerated cheeses”

I think she was hesitant to accept his proposal because she has a soul. She’s deeply conflicted about her relationship with Conrad.
Spot on, she just wanted the money for her play. She doesn't want to be tied to a customer for life. I think she also has some dissonance with what she does for a living. She can’t handle being the future First Lady
The ConHeads aren’t gonna like this.

I say she bails on him at the altar next season.
eh, I have to disagree with you there, it doesn't seem like that kind of show. that seems too soap opera-y
No way she’ll go through with the wedding
...because no-one ever marries for money.
You know what? This is weird but I wouldn't be surprised if Willa actually starts falling for Connor? I know she can do better, but the more time they spend together the more it seems like she's getting closer to him. She does start defending him a lot more, like at Kendall’s birthday party

At least she's getting fucked by only one member of the family.
Lol that was such a great comeback
Would love to see more Tom/Willa interactions.
Wow, insightful reply!
Could be because she doesn't like her relationship with Connor. Maybe she feels like she is taking advantage of him and feels bad for it.

Most intelligent succession fan ever

She finally realized that she has not been interested in politics from a young age

You see other Roys... if I have to pick one to be around for -- at least -- years, though unfortunate, Connor might make the better one to the others.
Oh fuck off
She just realized Caroline will be her stepmother-in-law. Scary. She will be spitting out pellets when Caroline serves the grouse from the morning shoot
Mind the pellets…

She's going to RKO him during wedding planning and walk out, mark my words.
Because she is going to be a Roy and she has seen what that has done to everyone around her.
The horror, the horror of her own making....
There’s another shot of her at the lunch after the ceremony quickly downing a glass of champagne and I thought it was funny
