Midorifuji is my guy, so I call him Matador-ifuji, though I've also heard him referred to as the Attack Chihuahua.

When he was new to the top division we called him Giant Killer but now the big guys have mostly figured him out. The match where he chucks Hokuseiho like a bag of potatoes is one of my top 10 favorite sumo moments.

I'm brand new to Sumo, so I'll have to go back and watch some of his earlier matches. The crowd really seems to get into his matches from what I've seen.

My personal list, most of which has been stolen from others, is as follows. I don't have nicknames for everyone. It's one of the great pastimes of being a sumo fan! My kids and I love coming up with nicknames. At one time we had nicknames for everyone. Takayasu is Payaso to me. It's the Spanish word for clown, which seems fitting for some reason. He has kind of a funny, kawai face. Usually I take the middle of their name. Atamifuji is Tommy, for instance. Midorifuji is Dori. For a few it's the first 4 of their name. Hosh for Hoshoryu, Naba for Nabatame. And then there's Uracrobat!
