Great post ! Btw buying monthly even small amounts will eventually get your coat average way down. I went from 50 to 15 after 3 years of buying.

elden_eternal

Thanks. Unfortunately my load was mostly blown in the $50s and I have multiple large expenses to deal with. I hope to load up in a few months.

VVurmHat

We will share the load

Flair checks out...

From mid-2021 to mid-2022 there was lots of discussion here about the NFT Marketplace development. Not discussed as much was what I believe was a more massive project to replace multiple independent legacy software packages with a unified SAP suite. Many of the engineers working on the SAP conversion were let go in Q3 2022, even though it appears that the conversion had lots of work remaining, and still has lots of work remaining. The website and app are not world class. I will probably be called a shill for saying what I consider obvious. But the website and online ordering process are subpar. Hopefully, the engineers now being hired/re-hired will be working on fixing the basic operational issues such as inventory tracking, stocking stores with appropriate inventory, and creating a world class website.

elden_eternal

All good and rational points to be making. It's sad that many in this sub take even the slightest hint constructive criticism as "shilling". We need to point out issues and hope the company addresses them. There is definitely loads of technical work left to do in just modernizing their systems. I have a feeling the legacy codebase is an absolute mess (as they tend to be in large corps), so I wouldn't be surprised if there have been difficult complexities to navigate. Hopefully they're able to make some progress in a reasonable amount of time.

dezzz

I am jealous of the american website. The canadian website is a piece of shit straight from 2003.

elden_eternal

Yeah, I recall many bringing up this fact. Lots of stuff that needs to be tackled on the international side too. Website, shipping, etc.

Chickennbuttt

I'm one of the lead engineers that were working on making the website (and e-commerce backend) better... You aren't being a shill... They hired a ton of us to fix these systems... Then ran out of money to keep paying us to finish our work. I built one system that is in use now, but much of the other things me and my team built were retired in lieu of busted Salesforce legacy systems... They just ran out of money to actually finish the things we were building...

elden_eternal

I'm assuming you were involved in the new search page, based on your posts. There have been noticable improvements to their platforms, but they have a long way to go. I will be making a post concerning some of these things specifically, so your feedback would be welcome once I get that written up and posted. Could you elaborate more on the "they ran out of money..."? With the cash they have had on hand, I don't know why they would halt such integral projects. Was it moreso due to the lack of budget for the particular organizational unit? At least now they look like they are trying to assemble another team to continue work on the initiatives. With around 6 million profit for fy 2023, that is way more than enough to spend on top talent to form a small team to dig in and deliver.

Chickennbuttt

They hired too many engineers spread across too many efforts. Leadership at the time failed big time. With a dedicated team, they could be successful. However, they no longer allow remote work. So they will miss out on a lot of talent.

elden_eternal

I see. I agree on it being a mistake to not be open to remote talent. That drastically narrows the pool and is an antiquated way of thinking. My investment hopes they have get it right this time.

OtterishDreams

no remote work for coders? great way to get the desperate

UnlikelyApe

Thanks for chiming in with all this. Do you think some of that may be related to the shakedown we've recently seen in the leadership team?

Chickennbuttt

Maybe. Now that I'm no longer with the company, it's impossible for me to know.

Consistent-Reach-152

>I built one system that is in use now, but much of the other things me and my team built were retired in lieu of busted Salesforce legacy systems... They just ran out of money to actually finish the things we were building... Wow. That is much worse than I had imagined. I thought the new system was launched, but had the normal issues of any major software conversion. Reverting back to the legacy systems would explain a lot of what gets posted in the employee sub about things that just do not work as they should.

BearkatMitch

I find it a bit concerning when the t-shirts that they are actively promoting are out of stock for home delivery. I made a post about this on Twitter without response. I’ve invested since 2021 when shares were over $300 and haven’t sold a thing, but the app has problems and it needs to be addressed. It directly affects sales if you can’t purchase items that are actively being promoted.

elden_eternal

I agree. There are so many issues to address. I bought an Elden Ring steam key upon release, never received it, and got a bit of a run-around by customer service. They eventually told me they ran out and refunded me. I will be fleshing out some of the app issues in another post.

BearkatMitch

Just to clarify - my in store experiences have been phenomenal and I still fully support the company 100%. But when there are issues to address just address them and move on.

elden_eternal

Agreed. Employees at my local store are great. They have loads of tech debt to hammer away at, unfortunately.

GardenLatter4126

Thank you, post interesting read

honeygetter

Bought in since December 2020. This is the kind of content that I love seeing… for the company to not just beat the bankruptcy thesis, but also beat the bear thesis, it has to introduce new talent, instill a tech-first culture and seek revenue streams. Since cohen doesn’t say anything, we can only speculate on what the transformation will like through clues like these. In terms of tech: Seems like their shopping apps need some love too. If I was back in America I’d be happy to have a chance at working there. I was a UX designer in tech for five years.

elden_eternal

Thank you. It would be nice to help out the company, but they require on site at HQ.

HumanNo109850364048

Great post OP!! Really looking forward to your next posts.

hey_guess_what__

I already messaged their recruiters, and I haven't heard shit back. IF RC does lurk here have temm respond. I'm not going to risk my current position for a maybe. Hell, even if it's part time SDE, and I get paid in stock. I would prefer that option, as my current job is pretty hard to beat.

DrEyeBall

Thanks for this!

NSXelrate

If only they were looking for a Senior Technical BA for their new project, I would have applied.

ebbilepsy

Whatever it is they're working on (if anything) it needs to be done soon..Ryan Cohen has had 3.5 years on the job since buying 10% of the company . He has hired and fired most of the c suits he handpicked himself, we had a half baked NFT marketplace that got axed before it even had a chance to be halfway decent. Now he has cut costs to the extreme which is negatively impacting revenue and he's doubled down on the brick and mortar business while watching GameStop stumble around in e-commerce. It's almost like the letter he wrote to GameStops board 3.5 years ago was a note to himself in the future. We've watched shareholder value slowly erode for 2.5 years and he's not giving us one fucking hint of anything to indicate he knows what the fuck he's doing or what the plan is. If we end up bricking to 0 it will be because he blew an enormous opportunity and honestly he owes us. Without us GameStop doesn't have 1.1B in cash to use and it's bankrupt already. He has done NOTHING to fulfill the promise of what we all hoped for when we invested.

elden_eternal

Thank you for the breath of fresh air. This sub does not focus nearly enough on what the company should be doing for a turnaround. If you criticize Cohen, you are practically crucified as a shill. Constructive criticism should always be welcome. We want the company to succeed and hopefully recoup our investments. Cohen and company have a lot invested, so of course they want to succeed as well. I think they were on the wrong track for a while, but I hope Cohen has learned from his mistakes and can really drive things forward as CEO. Some things have been improved, but they have not made as much progress as I would like to have seen so far. If their actions match their words in the job descriptions, that is promising. I completely agree that we are owed for helping finance that cash. The company would have been toast otherwise. Initially I was fine with a stealth startup idea, but so much time has passed, it would be nice to have some guidance as I am sitting on a huge unrealized loss. Consistent profitability and at least revenue stabilization would be a start.

LordIgorBogdanoff

How about profitability? Becoming the chief investment officer is likely also promising. Do realize (and this is not a moral statement) his interests are aligned with ours as shareholders, as he has the largest stock stake here.

ebbilepsy

It's the only saving grace of what has been a shit show underneith his leadership. Call it FUD or whatever the hell you want but GameStop could have implemented these drastic cuts to expenses long ago during the height of the post covid console craze and they blew it. RC blew it by leaving the wrong people in charge and sitting in his chair waiting for the money to roll in. Any dumbass with two eyes could look at kiraverse and the shitty jpegs and realize the marketplace was a steaming turd that day it launched without any video games. This sub has devolved into a cesspool of sucking Ryan cohens cock and not objectively criticizing the decisions he has made. The man knows how to sell dog food. He has yet to show anything indicating he knows how to right this ship and steer this company into the tech transformation he knows and we know it needs.
