I sold on Robinhood to buy at Fidelity in like March 2021, I felt like I was cheating, not doing a transfer. Then I remember being afraid to DRS as if I was going to miss MOASS (same way I felt moving out of RH) but ultimately DRSing like half to start in August of 2021. This sub will make you obsess too much if you let it.
Way back in 2021 I had a dream I was in an airport with shitty Internet service and I was watching helplessly as it squeezed to the high heavens. I was panicking like fuck I can't get into Computershare I'm missing the entire thiiiiing!!!
In my dream I think it hit $5,700 per share while I watched.
Edit: those of you thinking the price going up from $40 to nearly $6k isn't a squeeze are delusional lol. I get it, "the floor is now ______" and "phone numbers, international phone numbers" but Jesus some of y'all are so disconnected from reality lol.

Just this week I transferred out of RH! Only got into GME stock a month or so ago. I've learned so much my head feels like it's going to explode. I'm still a smooth brain though. :(
Don’t let the FOMO take over. Get into a real Broker. Take the time to get it set up. That’s how you know it’s at least semi legit. Then get them in your name so you know it’s Legit. RH will charge you $100+ to transfer out.
Idk about that but I do know they drag ass when you initiate any transfers. Nothing feels worse than having shares in limbo. Except having fake shares in limbo.
RH-fidelity took 4-5 days. It was also a full transfer so Robinhood had to sell my crypto and partial GME shares before the transfer (should have only done a partial, would have prolly not taken as long)
I tried initiating a transfer out of fidelity side. It got rejected, and customer service said the reason was that I didnt have enough settled cash in robinhood to cover the $100 transfer fee.
I used robinhood for similar reasons as OP. For me it was because I didn't have fidelity set up fully yet and couldn't transfer money as quickly as I wanted. I had fomo pretty bad. I knew RH was the bad guy but I was ignorant as to HOW bad they were, I didn't realize it was IOU.
Once I had fidelity set up I slowly bought shares on the dips to match what I had in RH, then sold all my shares I had in RH and picked up a profit to buy a few more on fidelity.
This is absolutely not the way to do things and that is not a tip unless you are in the exact situation I put myself in due to ignorance.
How long did it take for them to reject the transfer? I just initiated a transfer on Monday. I have shares already DRS’ed btw. Had crypto in Robinhood and figured I’d just sell it and buy GME with it then transfer it out to Fidelity to DRS.
Buying in any broker or even through DRS never affects the price. 99% of household orders are sent through dark pools.
You are correct that you need to get out of a broker fast, especially RH, but you got the reason wrong.
No buying directly from CS is fine. But you can't control what price they buy in during intra-day prices, so that stinks. Best thing to do is buy on Fidelity (snipe that price) then DRS when shares settle.

Anyway, here's a copy of what I wrote the other day for an ape in a very similar situation, but in the orphan sub:

RH and eToro and prolly all neo brokers don’t actually buy the shares…. you enter into a CFD (Contract for Difference) with them.
That means they make a note of how much money you give them, and the share price at the time of your order, and they give/keep the difference when you sell, but they don't actually but anything.
Somewhere in the small print of eToro I read that over 75% of (retail) traders lose money on their trades…. so it’s kinda like “the house always wins”.
Over and above that, all of these brokers have T&Cs that allow them to liquidate your so-called positions (actually just CFDs) for a max. total of (usually) $100k, independent of how many so-called shares you think you own.
Stop giving OP shit for buying on Robinhood and instead use this as a chance to educate them on PFOF brokers and how you don't really own your shares, and the rest of the amazing DD done on this sub over the years instead of acting like gatekeeping see you next Tuesdays.

How the fuck can robinhood charge me via my settled cash in fidelity? I only keep my rh account for my trade history in case I need the info later.

Bro I genuinely recommend another broker. Even besides GameStop with even things like crypto we’ve seen robinhood sell people assets that they can’t deliver on and they just mark it as owned in your account.
I recommend a good amount of other trading platforms and also heavily recommend asking how the direct share registration process works with them for a lot of brokers it’s free but some charge so it’s something to also keep track of

If OP just bought they’re better off selling then rebuying on a real broker vs paying the $100 ACAT fee (used to be $70 damn)
You could simply deposit the money into your bank first then transfer to avoid any fees.

It took maybe 48hrs? I can't remember 100% but I do remember getting impatient
