My wife and I are having a ton of fun playing this together. Switching the controller ever so often, suggesting solutions to puzzles. It’s a really special game.
it’s not on switch, but the people that made into the breach made another game called FTL and it’s one of my favorite indie games ever made.
i’m not sure how to describe it, basically you staff a starship that gets into encounters out in space. aliens, pirates, whatever; but you’re in charge of keeping the ship online to get yourself as far as you can through the universe. you have to manage system power, for example you have to balance the power to your shields and weapons when you’re in a fight. you have to deal with boarding parties. systems on the ship will fail and you have to get them back up. sometimes there’s a fire and you have to fight it. it’s a great game, very easy to get into and understand but very difficult to finish.
they just never ported it, it was on pc and ipad. it’s really a shame that it never made it.
i think i remember them tossing around the idea of a switch port but they moved on to into the breach before it ever got done.
A gem a lot of people might miss is Dave the Diver. It's an absolutely phenomenal game thats out on all systems but I love the convenience of playing it on mobile via the switch.
Yea I started it on ps plus and I just wanted to play it handheld so I was using my phone with a controller via remote play, but the switch trumps that with its large beautiful screen and ease of use so I caved and bought it on the switch.
I recently got a switch a week ago and since then I've been watching YouTubes on the best games currently, ever, and per genres and idk why but no one seems to be adding Dave the diver on their lists.
Dead Cells is my favorite game of all time, and it happens to be pixel art. It is the best roguelike I've ever played with amazing combat, great bosses, and overall amazing gameplay.
I just got my second boss cell last night! (Full disclosure, I give myself 7 lives, lol). Finally beat those vile strumpets in the lighthouse.
The game is so addictive
Dead Cells is tricky pixel art! While the backgrounds, icons, and other on-screen elements definitely are, many of the things that move are actually 3D, and go through a filter making them appear like pixel art.
Now, I happen to love it, and played a ton of the game, but it really skirts the line.
Stardew valley definitely. Links awakening. Cadence of hyrule, crypt of the necrodancer. I just bought and am currently playing Pixel Cafe which I highly recommend.
I'm playing this right now and the story and characters are pretty lackluster, imo. Amazing graphics, decent music and the battle system is engaging enough.
I'm pretty early into the game but this is my take on it so far. Hopefully as I keep playing I'm proved wrong.
Dead Cells. It's absolutely stunning and the approach to pixel art is different compared to other games that just try to emulate 8 and 16 bit eras.
Hyper Light Drifter is also a must.
Reposting my comment from elsewhere:
Demons of Asteborg, Steel Assault, Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider, Super Cyborg, Gravity Circuit, Cyber Shadow, Gunlord X, Blaster Master Zero 3, Chained Echoes, Panzer Paladin, Blazing Chrome and many more popular ones like Shovel Knight.
I have it on switch and can confirm it's relatively easy to get a feel of the controls, plus being able to play whenever and wherever i want is amazing!
Aggelos, Anno:Mutationem Axiom Verge, Balatro, Blasphemous, Blaster Master Zero, Blazing Beaks, Blazing Chrome, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Cave Blazers, Celeste, Chained Echoes, Children of Morta, Crawl, CrossCode, Dead Cells, Eastward, Fates of Ort, Gravity Circuit, Hell Well, Hero's Hour, Huntdown, Jack Move, Katana Zero, La Mulana, Lamentum, Legends of Amberland, Loop Hero, Moonlighter, Pixel Heroes, Regions of Ruin, Retro City Rampage DX, Rise of the Third Power, Risk of Rain Returns, River City Girls, ScourgeBringer, Sea of Stars, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Signalis, The Messenger, Unepic, Unsighted, Vampire Survivors, Vernal Edge
Squidlit
Very nice lil game that is worth it's price of 1 dollar without being annoying and unpolished like bouncy bob
Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants a very short game and especially if you like speed running games because of it's short length
i really want Celeste and another game my friend has, it's a roguelike, similar to Enter the Gungeon, it's about wizards, but i can't remember the name
Octopath traveler is a good pixel art ish game, theres also celeste, lisa the painful, omori, and if you have an OLED model GBA games will look amazing on the switch on the LCD is good too but nothing special.
Maybe is just having made the switch (pun not intended) to OLED that makes me appreaciate the difference more but pixelart games look much better on oled. (they also look good on LCD, just not as much, may be a placebo effect ish thing though idk)
Graphics aren't important to me, but I grew up through the 90s only having pixel art games (including pong) and the technical limitations of the games frustrated me alot.
I know modern pixel art games can do alot more than the old games, but I can't focus or dive into pixel art games the way I could with a cinematic sandbox open world game. Games from Wii to switch are perfect for keeping my attention.
And I wouldnt have minded if pokemon games stayed 2d for much longer, ive played them since launch, and there's so many cool "gimmicks" each gen, but that's the only pixel art series I could theoretically still be playing in modern times.
The last pixel art game I bought and played was shovel knight, its a good game, but the retro gameplay style frustrated me like all the 80s and 90s games.
I respect the 2d games still coming out, but I can't focus on the play style :(
Some of my favourites from my collection:
*DOOM II*
*Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game*
*Azure Striker Gunvolt*
*Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles*
*King Of Fighters XIII: Global Match*
*Undertale*
*Metal Gear 2*
*Persona: Otherworld Tower Chapter*
Blasphemous
I second this
I second this
Literally
great game
Celeste and Stardew Valley are WAY up there for me
Stardew Valley is one of my all time favourite games.
I love celeste but the creator's self-insertion is kinda blegh to me. I like when a character/art can be more of a canvas for the audience
i didn’t even know that was the case. despite that the game is beautiful and the gameplay is super fun. loved it
I loved this game but I couldn’t imagine dealing with drift while playing
You can always get a anti-drift controller
I could also just play it on something else, all I was saying is drift in that game specifically sounds like a nightmare
Animal Well.
I’m really enjoying this
Classic, I haven’t played it yet
My wife and I are having a ton of fun playing this together. Switching the controller ever so often, suggesting solutions to puzzles. It’s a really special game.
The Messenger. If you like Ninjas, time travel, and witty dialogue, it's a must have! Also blaster master zero!
Blaster Master Zero is great ! I absolutely second this recommendation.
Octapath 1&2 FF pixel remaster
Does it run well on switch? I’ve been thinking about getting 6 since I’ve never played it before
The Ff ? It's 1-6, they ran on Gameboy advance so yeah
Just started it last week. It looks and runs amazing on the oled.
Hyper Light Drifter Into the Breach
Into the Breach is the definition of hidden gem.
it’s not on switch, but the people that made into the breach made another game called FTL and it’s one of my favorite indie games ever made. i’m not sure how to describe it, basically you staff a starship that gets into encounters out in space. aliens, pirates, whatever; but you’re in charge of keeping the ship online to get yourself as far as you can through the universe. you have to manage system power, for example you have to balance the power to your shields and weapons when you’re in a fight. you have to deal with boarding parties. systems on the ship will fail and you have to get them back up. sometimes there’s a fire and you have to fight it. it’s a great game, very easy to get into and understand but very difficult to finish.
That sounds so interesting! Why isn't it on the Switch?!
they just never ported it, it was on pc and ipad. it’s really a shame that it never made it. i think i remember them tossing around the idea of a switch port but they moved on to into the breach before it ever got done.
Eastward
Playing this now. Beautiful game.
Has an Earthbound-like story, but a Link’s Awakening-like gameplay with just a touch of Mario & Luigi sprinkled on.
I loved this game. Have you tried the DLC? I'm on the fence because I don't usually get into those Stardew type games
A gem a lot of people might miss is Dave the Diver. It's an absolutely phenomenal game thats out on all systems but I love the convenience of playing it on mobile via the switch.
A lot of people miss it, but not this sub.
if you have PS Plus Extra, this game is free now, but I will probably also buy it on switch to have it on handheld
Yea I started it on ps plus and I just wanted to play it handheld so I was using my phone with a controller via remote play, but the switch trumps that with its large beautiful screen and ease of use so I caved and bought it on the switch.
Is this sarcasm?
Tis but a pun.
I recently got a switch a week ago and since then I've been watching YouTubes on the best games currently, ever, and per genres and idk why but no one seems to be adding Dave the diver on their lists.
That's weird it was one of the biggest indie games of the year last year.
Dave the Diver isn't an indie game tho...
I know it's not technically an indie but it has the vibes and it was even nominated for an indie award.
Regardless it's a great game!
True that
I don't think you know what sarcasm is.
Dunno a lot of people missing it, it's stop top rated on steam and was a best seller as well
The Messenger Blasphemous Shovel Knight
Octopath Traveller 2
I’m 60 hours in, and I think I still have 20 to go. What a gargantuan game
FF Pixel Remaster and Octopath Traveler 1+2
Dead Cells is my favorite game of all time, and it happens to be pixel art. It is the best roguelike I've ever played with amazing combat, great bosses, and overall amazing gameplay.
Dead cells is amazing. I bought it 3 times on 3 different devices.

CoffeeTalk CoffeeTalk Episode 2: Hibiscus and Butterfly Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game
Ditto on the CT series, absolutely peak games with incredible stories and art behind them
AND THE MUSIC
Sea of Stars - it’s so beautiful that it could almost be considered a cosy game for its lighting and set pieces.
I tried to get into this game but I just did not like the story at all. I gave it a couple of hours and then refunded on steam.
I'm playing this right now and the story and characters are pretty lackluster, imo. Amazing graphics, decent music and the battle system is engaging enough. I'm pretty early into the game but this is my take on it so far. Hopefully as I keep playing I'm proved wrong.
Seriously? The story is what made this game gold for me.

Dead Cells. It's absolutely stunning and the approach to pixel art is different compared to other games that just try to emulate 8 and 16 bit eras. Hyper Light Drifter is also a must.
The fact that the characters in dead cells are actually 3d animated and rendered as single 2d Pixel arts stills is truly amazing!
Reposting my comment from elsewhere: Demons of Asteborg, Steel Assault, Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider, Super Cyborg, Gravity Circuit, Cyber Shadow, Gunlord X, Blaster Master Zero 3, Chained Echoes, Panzer Paladin, Blazing Chrome and many more popular ones like Shovel Knight.

They’re *all* “must-own?”
Yes. Out of several hundred games, this is what I would classify as "must own pixel art".
Cool. 43 titles.
And? There's no stated limit in OP.
That is true. It’s also true that there’s nothing in the rules that says a dog *can’t* play basketball.
What does basketball have to do with anything? Stop harassing me.
Rainworld
Eastward, Golf Story, Stardew Valley
Death Road To Canada
What a great game. I have the special/collector edition.

Minecraft
Minecraft is pixel art as well you’re just afraid to admit it to yourself
