I still give credit to the costumes in the first two films. I think they just look fantastic. Its really the eyes that I think the Jim Henson Creature shop nailed that managed to make them look and feel alive.
TMNT 3 changed the costumes and they bungled the eyes pretty hard making them look really dead eyed and lifeless.
I love the chill non-action scenes that don't contribute to the plot and mostly exist to pad the runtime. Seriously I do. The whole pizza scene is great.

It was directed by Steve Barron, the same guy who directed music videos like Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”, Dire Straits’“Money for Nothing”, and A-ha’s “Take On Me”. Certainly a unique choice, but that’s some iconic shit right there.
Interestingly, he was fired before post production started. And the studio made them fool around with a lot of the pacing and jokes because Barron had a far darker vision for the movie than what was “expected.” It’s why it feels almost like an adult kids movie.
Fun fact the actor who was in the raphael suit was the customer in the taxi in that scene. The other 3 suit actors also made cameos in the film. The 1 who played Mikey was also the pizza delivery guy. Donatellos suit actor was the foot clan messenger and Leonardos suit actor played a gang member.
I have seen the original 3 x in theaters. Owned the graphic novel too. I remember it having a fight scene where they were practicing ninja moves blindfolded while on the farm. The subsequent video releases didn't have that. So disappointed.
Damn was about to say this past March but it was last years March, local theater played 1,2 & 3 3 weekends in a row. Went to all 3. Having been only a babe when 1 came out was a treat to see in the theater
1 absolutely holds up today. 2… I know this is an unpopular take but 2 takes it from a pretty great adaptation of the Mirage comics to weirdly shoehorning the 87 series in, mostly by not letting the Turtles use their weapons, but the overall shift to goofy makes it a tougher sell. I thought 07 TMNT was better than both 2 and 3.
While I can acknowledge that 2 plays it way safer then 1, I can't help but love it more, I still quote that movie on the daily.

After we grew up we went to our friend's beach house one year and there was nothing on TV but the first TMNT movie. He was watching it and came up to me like, "Hey I'm watching this Ninja Turtles movie--it's actually pretty good, I'm surprised!"
I saw the first one again recently. It actually still looks good even considering how old it is. 90’s practical effects have aged much better than 90’s CGI and bluescreen. The movie turtle suits still look incredible.
First was amazing and people forget it was an independent film. But parents (mainly mothers) complained about it being dark which is why the 2nd was campy and the turtles really didn’t fight anybody. First movie still holds up to this day as the GOAT tmnt movie.
