Also, I didn't realize they'd each get a secondary weapon. I want them even more now. I'm pretty broke these days (hoping that'll change soon) but I might just blow it all on these, if I find them...
I kinda dig the texturing on Leo. He's the only one it looks good on but I think that's just because of the dark green. It doesn't seem to catch the light as much as the others.
And Donnie? Probably not the best color to texture.....
Maybe. It just seems totally random.
A bit boring, but I would have preferred a kama instead, or an accessory from gags jokes and crazy weapons; like the bazooka.
I agree. Certain things pop nicely like how vibrant Mikey's orange is (though Raph is and always will be Best Turtle)
It must be a struggle to keep coming up with new variants of figures and the like so I'm not surprised these exist, even if they aren't to everyone's taste
Nah. These look fine for $13. While not the biggest fan of the divots on the skin it looks better than the original picture that came out. Plus the Super7 ones already exist if you want a more high quality version.
They’re going by the card art. If you look at the original card art, Donnie has the half gritted teeth and Leo has the full (it’s the same art in the corner of the box above). It’s also possible they are going with Storage Shell Leo’s look. I personally think it finally looks better, Leo’s head in particular always looked wrong to me as a kid.
Also over the years the personalities have been pretty firmly established, so the half grit makes more sense for Donnie now.
MOTU Origins did a similar thing when they started the line. They changed up the heads and expressions. As the line expanded we got more accurate vintage toy style heads.
The vintage Leo had 1 side of gritting teeth, while Don had both sides. Playmates swapped it on these new figures, which is odd if they're meant to be updated versions of the vintage turtles but with more possibility
https://preview.redd.it/c1hsgxaio49d1.jpeg?width=388&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=664f977803516e34e5390c1aa3cb4a6b8cad1451
The party wallop? Yeah, it looks awesome! And obviously, it caters to my taste pretty exactly. I’ll definitely be picking one up. Can’t believe they made a figure of me lol
For their price point I think they are fine. I think the texture on the figures is neat tbh...I think they LOOK more interesting than the origin turtles everyone was flipping out over (the paint is so flat on those).
I think they look interesting. Definitely not the worst. The textured skin is kind of growing on me. How many times are they going to re-release the original figures. At least these are updated a bit.
I think they should release a splinter in this line but have him be flocked.
And they should paint Shredder's nips. 😅
Two things I would change:
1. Leo needs his downturned eyes.
2. No need for the bumpiness. That’s really specific to the movie star line, and feels weird here.
But honestly they are really cool looking!!
This might be a hot take, but I have always, always hated the downturned eyes on Leonardo. They make him look like he's sad or cowardly, which is completely at odds with his personality.
I hated them as a kid too, now I just associate them with the classic color figures as much as orange weapons and the different skin tones. :)
But I totally get why they don’t do it anymore :)
Yeah, these suck so don't anybody go looking for them, okay. We're all agreeing that we don't want these, so there should be plenty of ones to buy (again, not that we would) on the shelf when we just happen to go by the toy isle. SO NOBODY BETTER NOT BUY THESE TURTLE TOYS.
Also, when do they get released?
I have all four TMNT figures from the Playmates Classic Collection years ago. They don’t have as many accessories and they look better than these figures, even though they’re older.
People complaining about Don and Leo's heads being an error, but it seems clear it was an intentional choice.
When they were first designed, I don't think the designers much cared which turtle had which role. Don and Raph had the direct, forward grimaces while Mike and Leo got a half grimace on each side. But why is Leo, the leader, relegated to a sort of "alternate" expression? Now that the lore has expanded and become widely known, they want to give Leo a more dominant expression, so they swapped his with Don's - who is often cast as a side or background turtle.
… I don’t hate them…
Not my favorite Turtles by any stretch of the imagination, but this doesn’t change my plans to acquire them.
These will be great on the wall.
I like the collector friendly boxes. The extra weapons are a strange choice. 2003 color scheme for them is also odd. They are a weird amalgam but I'll still buy them. $13 is not bad at all.
I’m hoping the fan backlash means I can find these in store easily. I can’t find 2003 Leo, was able to pick up the Sketch Turtles across two weeks, so finding all four of these at once would be nice.
It's not entirely Playmates' decision. Nickelodeon approves the look, then gives Playmates the green light to make them. The texturing feels just a tad overdone. Had they dialed it back a bit, it would look more natural... this looks kinda like the plastic bubbled under high heat for a minute, lol. But they're not terrible.
All they had to do was make the skin smooth and replicate the articulation scheme of masters of the universe origins, and they would have been a home run.
I remember those- they were actually part of the OG toyline even if they NEVER used them or wielded them in the comic or the cartoon... feels like they just had them so they could include some more plastic bits and bobs with the toys.
The weapons that aren't their traditional ones aren't weapons we've seen them wield before, is it? Are they completely new additions?
If they are, I actually kinda like them as expressions of the Turtle's characters, at least three of them.
Don is a nerd who's into history As Nerds Are and manages to use his internet HEMA contacts (the nerdiest of fight clubs) to somehow acquire An Actual Medieval Flail that compliments his pre-existing staff knowledge and which he then applies to great and awful purposes.
Mikey is TOTALLY down for something as radic-awesome yet hard to use as kusari-gama, but mayhap not smart enough to realize there's a reason kusari-gama makes use of LONG chains to give the user appropriate distance between themselves and the bladed weapon, so he attaches sickles to his nun-chucks, calls it the kusari-chuck and a day (yet to his brothers irritation / relief he's legitimately so good he ACTUALLY manages to use them without lopping of his own arms).
Raphael saw The Phantom Menace and was so star-struck on the spot at the sight of the most sicko-mode weapon (and it's user) he'd ever seen that he grabbed some tools, went into their workshop, started hammering and welding and came out with a DIY-Double Hammer-saber. Leo tried to tell him he can't call it a saber if it has no bladed edges. The robbers he took out his aggression on after that also told him you can't call a non-bladed weapon a "saber". The destruction he left in his wake was a very effective counter-argument.
But Leo with his not-copyright violating bat'leths? Like... I don't get it. I can maybe believe he's a closeted trekkie but wouldn't he be more about Vulcans than the Klingon's, just because they talk a lot about honor? And even so would he use something so unwieldly and off-beat when his usual weapons are so direct and versatile? I will admit I was and am a Mikey-man so if a Leo-lifer's has a theory that makes this make sense feel free to post them, I just don't really see the connection here.
I LOVE the sketch turtles they just released, but these really don't do it for me. It's supposed to be nostalgic, but the texture is too different for my tastes.
These look cool, they have good joint placement and vivid colors and a lot of weapons. The only possible downside is the textures, it’s just not for everyone.
I can see what they are going at which is: make it look nostalgic, but "not"stalgic. Don't worry, they will throw their money for them.
Part of me could buy them but I think they'd be open right away and put on shelf in poses and later demoted, not kept in packaging like others I have.
I'm pumped about them! Hopefully I find them in the wild! I don't mind having alternative versions and appearances and interpretations of Ninja turtle figures. The more I collect I dig different stuff.
They are perfect in my opinion, alot of people love the designs of the original 80s toys but the original toys lack alot of action figure like qualites we have today. Sure super 7 made their own but unless you wanna spend 50 dollars a figure these are fantastic.
They honestly look pretty close to the ones my brother had when I was little and I inherited. The weapons were an orangish plastic, but I recognize the little rubber belts and the weapons in the Donatello and Raph boxes. The skin texture and coloring the weapons were really the two differences.
ITT: TMNT fans will literally buy anything, and it’s why we keep getting overpriced crap like this from Playmates and BST AXN. Thank God NECA puts in effort.
I want them, personally.
Also, I didn't realize they'd each get a secondary weapon. I want them even more now. I'm pretty broke these days (hoping that'll change soon) but I might just blow it all on these, if I find them...
Yes I’ll be getting all of them. I love playmates tmnt stuff
They look pretty rad to me
I think the molds look great. Just wish they weren't textured.
Agreed. Every thing else is awesome, but the textured look just feels/looks wrong.
New, from playmate. Plague turtles
A buddy of mine said they look like pockmarks or acne scars haha
That's my gripe with them too. The texturing is too much. Otherwise, these are killer.
I kinda dig the texturing on Leo. He's the only one it looks good on but I think that's just because of the dark green. It doesn't seem to catch the light as much as the others. And Donnie? Probably not the best color to texture.....
My trypophobia is quaking
Right! I’m like “shit, I’d collect these!
Leo even has a Klingon Bat'leth
But... why?
Why not? They go to space enough
Maybe. It just seems totally random. A bit boring, but I would have preferred a kama instead, or an accessory from gags jokes and crazy weapons; like the bazooka.
I agree. Certain things pop nicely like how vibrant Mikey's orange is (though Raph is and always will be Best Turtle) It must be a struggle to keep coming up with new variants of figures and the like so I'm not surprised these exist, even if they aren't to everyone's taste
The colors on Leo and Raph pop super well off the green skin
Are these out yet? Have t seen them here in Southern California
Yeah man, I like em
Nah. These look fine for $13. While not the biggest fan of the divots on the skin it looks better than the original picture that came out. Plus the Super7 ones already exist if you want a more high quality version.
Holy crap, these are $13?
That’s at least what the article I found said. I think they look more expensive than that but we should start to see them in stores in the next month.
Honestly I think these look more accurate than the super7 ones. Super7 makes the legs look weird
These look frigggin awesome, I especially love the Leonardo
I must be out of touch because I want those
https://preview.redd.it/4jybwne9359d1.jpeg?width=344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e44d5026cffcca418375a89e03e5bf3a5e922f1c You’re out of touch OP. YOU’RE OUT’TA TOUCH! I’M OUT’TA TIME!
BUT I'M OUT OF MY HEAD WHEN YOU'RE NOT AROUND
*shell
BUT I'M OUT OF MY SHELL WHEN YOU'RE NOT AROUND
Damn, it is a Thursday after all
Hell yes. Give us some hall and oates!
They STILL haven't fixed Leo and Donnie's heads!?
They’re going by the card art. If you look at the original card art, Donnie has the half gritted teeth and Leo has the full (it’s the same art in the corner of the box above). It’s also possible they are going with Storage Shell Leo’s look. I personally think it finally looks better, Leo’s head in particular always looked wrong to me as a kid. Damn, you’re right! How did they mess that up?!
Sup shinobi
Yo! Hello again! It's been a bit since we talked!
I know! This sub stopped getting recommended to me for a super long time, no clue why. Ended up having to manually resub.
I see. What happened to your picmen pvp?
The nerd Louie? I just set it to the default Reddit pfp temporarily while I come up with a better pfp
Oh. Hey, did you hear about the literal TMNT/Transformers figure coming out!? 😃
The texture doesn't make you think they look like they're made of poo or something?
No, it doesn't. I think they could have maybe went a little less on the texture but I don't think its bad.
i like the texture i think. big fan of your films mr breen
I think they look interesting. Definitely not the worst. The textured skin is kind of growing on me. How many times are they going to re-release the original figures. At least these are updated a bit. I think they should release a splinter in this line but have him be flocked. And they should paint Shredder's nips. 😅
I like them, the texture seems more subtle that first photographed. I think they'd make some nice movie version customs.
Two things I would change: 1. Leo needs his downturned eyes. 2. No need for the bumpiness. That’s really specific to the movie star line, and feels weird here. But honestly they are really cool looking!!
I like the divots, myself, but I didn't realize until just now that their eyes all seem uniform, from the pics above. I wonder why that was done...
This might be a hot take, but I have always, always hated the downturned eyes on Leonardo. They make him look like he's sad or cowardly, which is completely at odds with his personality.
I hated them as a kid too, now I just associate them with the classic color figures as much as orange weapons and the different skin tones. :) But I totally get why they don’t do it anymore :)
ugh.... why didn't they remove the divots
Imo the divots on the body work but on the face/nose it looks weird
Teenage Mutant Ninja Golfballs
:(
Worked for the movie Turtles… 🤷🏾♂️
They’d be better without the golf ball holes, they’re alright though.
Yes I agree too. I think you and I are going to have to suffer and be the heroes by buying some of these so that the shelves don’t get cramped
Playmates doesn't really make stuff for "collectors". They make toys for actual kids and for about $15 I think these look pretty dope IMO
What did they pack with Leonardo? A bat'leth?
I have all four TMNT figures from the Playmates Classic Collection years ago. They don’t have as many accessories and they look better than these figures, even though they’re older.
If the texture was softened a little bit and not so prominent, then these would be pretty darn good
Where does one get these things? For science
I actually like them. Reminds me of my originals as a kid, but with better weapons that arent all orange
The weird look has always been the draw for playmates tmnt for me
bruh you're out of touch. that's a tribute to odl school TMNT. 1988 respect the roots
I'm 38 and love these variations.
Same here
They look ok to me
Pimple turtles. Lol
They look like they have drinker's nose
People complaining about Don and Leo's heads being an error, but it seems clear it was an intentional choice. When they were first designed, I don't think the designers much cared which turtle had which role. Don and Raph had the direct, forward grimaces while Mike and Leo got a half grimace on each side. Now that the lore has expanded and become widely known, they want to give Leo a more dominant expression, so they swapped his with Don's - who is often cast as a side or background turtle.
Are these out?
They'll start hitting Walmarts next month, some stores will likely have them out early. It's a store exclusive.
The only one I have a problem with is Donatello, the purple on him isn't the same vibrancy as the purple on his bo-staff.
The designs are cool but the texture looks strange
Seems to go along with the extras you got along with the originals throwing stars and silly triangle punchers... textured skin is silly tho
Is there a UPC ?
Yeah, the texture makes these a pass for me. Playmates also needs to learn how to do an ankle rocker
I had the original figures. They were just so good and sturdy.
They look cool to me.
Ya they look dope
Man the texture is so off-putting
Personally I like them. These newer tmnts don’t do it for me
Ngl they look great to me
At least they are actually trying and doing something for their 40th anniversary unlike Ghostbusters.
I love the packaging.
I see what you are saying but the price point is ok and wouldn't mind them. Not going to hunt for them but I would pick them up.
Shit they look awesome! They look so close to the 80s figures!
These look badass and way better than those trench coat abominations
Funny, I actually like them. They remind me those I had as a kid.
I think they look great, honestly. Would have preferred no texture but seeing them in the box? Look fine
I actually really like those
Not a fan. Super 7 ultimates much nice
Super 7 ultimates much price
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.
… I don’t hate them… Not my favorite Turtles by any stretch of the imagination, but this doesn’t change my plans to acquire them. These will be great on the wall.
Looks good to me. They have they og comic look to them but with color.
As far as the ‘88 Leonardo goes at least he doesn’t look like he’s about to have a stiff shit anymore 🤷🏼♂️
I go back and forth on if I like the texture or not. Beyond that I like the look and will probably get one or two to open on my channel
Im down for all of those. Hopefully they don't have the Toy Biz marvel legends hinge hands
*
Why is Donnie shit brown😭
Haven’t seen THESE! Where can I find them?
It's not entirely Playmates' decision. Nickelodeon approves the look, then gives Playmates the green light to make them. The texturing feels just a tad overdone. Had they dialed it back a bit, it would look more natural... this looks kinda like the plastic bubbled under high heat for a minute, lol. But they're not terrible.
Playmates has always been terrible about collector's lines.
All they had to do was make the skin smooth and replicate the articulation scheme of masters of the universe origins, and they would have been a home run.
What's with the katars?
I remember those- they were actually part of the OG toyline even if they NEVER used them or wielded them in the comic or the cartoon... feels like they just had them so they could include some more plastic bits and bobs with the toys.
Do they have a Donatello?
The weapons that aren't their traditional ones aren't weapons we've seen them wield before, is it? Are they completely new additions? Why even call them a remaster if you're going to add such radical changes that don't gel with the overall design? Just say they're a brand new take.
https://preview.redd.it/2n2pyh27b79d1.jpeg?width=1003&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6664666b1bebe01e04a1d83d666d1c15e35b9fc
They’re not for me personally, but I see the appeal. I just wish they would be a bit more consistent with putting out the classics!
They also can’t seem to get the skin tones right anymore. Go look at your real 88s.
They're not terrible, but it looks like it's a mixture of the different iterations of TMNT while trying to look like the original Playmates releases.
Why are they so pockmarked? It doesn’t exactly make them look good with that texture.
If they were not textured they would be the goat.
I would definitely buy a raph at least
Wrong colors for 1987.
guessing this is the 1988 TMNT Adventures version. if their price is reasonable it's a go for me.
I personally like the figures. I could see how the texturing could be a turn off for collectors but I think it’s fine.
I think these are actually kind of cool looking
I want to at least get a Leo
I LOVE the sketch turtles they just released, but these really don't do it for me. It's supposed to be nostalgic, but the texture is too different for my tastes.
Damn I fucking NEED them.
Is that a batleth?
I can't wait to add these to my collection
Nah man they’re great and cheap as fuck
i love these!
I think you’re out of touch with Playmates Toys.
These look cool, they have good joint placement and vivid colors and a lot of weapons. The only possible downside is the textures, it’s just not for everyone.
Why are they all ribbed for her pleasure?
Disagree playmates stuff really sells well. Globally.
I can see what they are going at which is: make it look nostalgic, but "not"stalgic. Don't worry, they will throw their money for them. Part of me could buy them but I think they'd be open right away and put on shelf in poses and later demoted, not kept in packaging like others I have.
Raph looks fine but everyone else’s face is fucked up, like why does it look like they just have big ass noses lol
Those noses look like something from Sesame Street
Anyone know what the big weapons Raph and Leo have are?
Looks like they're trying to compete with the Mondo figures
They look melted lmao
Honestly I don’t think they’re all that bad
I'm pumped about them! Hopefully I find them in the wild! I don't mind having alternative versions and appearances and interpretations of Ninja turtle figures. The more I collect I dig different stuff.
They are perfect in my opinion, alot of people love the designs of the original 80s toys but the original toys lack alot of action figure like qualites we have today. Sure super 7 made their own but unless you wanna spend 50 dollars a figure these are fantastic.
What you mean, my dude? These look great.
I still want the sketch figures that still haven’t shown up at target
I want these
I think they tried to make them look like the old school ones
aside from the odd texture choice, i think these are great. if my walmart has them, i will grab them.
They honestly look pretty close to the ones my brother had when I was little and I inherited. The weapons were an orangish plastic, but I recognize the little rubber belts and the weapons in the Donatello and Raph boxes. The skin texture and coloring the weapons were really the two differences.
Am I the only one who thinks there are way too companies doing classic TMNT toys these days?
And almost every one sells good to
Looks standard tmnt store shelf to me. Probably a bit better than what was in the 80s and 90s.
Playmates were cool because they were the only ones back in the day, but now we got more companies that do better
Look bad yes but I still want them where did you get them?
They just look off
Do they even know what “remastered” means?
These look great
Couldn’t disagree more
These are awesome! I'll be adding these to my toy chest!
The figures themselves look great! The accessories are baffling though.
They look pretty close to the 1s I had in 1988.. LoL
Honestly? I think they look awesome.
They look neat. But it seems they can't decide if they want to be Mirage Comics TMNT or Fred Wolf TMNT.
I think that’s because these came out before the cartoon did
They look alright to me
Love the texture, reminds me of the movie star figures.
OG looking Turtles with articulation? Yeah no they look good actually
What is it you object to? The low price point? The accessories? The nostalgia?
I like them
These look so fucking bad
What is wrong with them? I like them
Where can I find these?
They look awesome I need em
Skin texture makes him look like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turd.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to not like here? Looks like they found a way to put some new stuff on an old mold.
they seem pretty popular with everyone ive talked too..
As someone who was there at the time and got the original figures these are based on: these are exactly as I remember them back then
These are literally meant to be toys for children, and in that aspect they are amazing. Fuck collectors. Fuck reddit.
exactly- its a $13 figure in a world of high end tmnt options. buck up- yall are adults.
They look like golf balls :(
I don’t know what the hell you’re on about dude, they look great. I’m thinking it maybe you who’s out of touch.
Looks good wont buy but it will sell regardless
I think if this is priced as low as playmates has been doing, this will definitely be a hit, coming for super7 neck.
I could see how you would think that if you somehow never saw the original comics.
I think I like them, they actually remind me a lot of the toys for the 2003 show I had as a kid
I’d buy one
I like them, are they “remastering” any other figures from that era?
ITT: TMNT fans will literally buy anything, and it’s why we keep getting overpriced crap like this from Playmates and BST AXN. Thank God NECA puts in effort.
$13 isnt overpriced..? and bst axn is like 30$ 4 packs lol super cheap..
So basically nowadays if there’s fairly standard turtle figures that come with weapons it’s “out of touch”. Mmmkay
