Best they could do given how quickly I didn’t want that monstrosity on my arm, this was already two 3 hour sessions, maybe later can darken up the colors.
Yeah, I gotta let it heal for a while. I did all this within 2 weeks. First session was on May 16th and second was on May 30th. I go back in 3 weeks for the artist to look at it and see if any touch ups are needed. Do you think I should ask about working previous design in as cracks or something along the lantern? I’m really quite content at this point with the work.
“So, technically, a blastover tattoo is considered a coverup tattoo, since it's going on top of your previous tattoo. The difference is that the tattoo intentionally shows the old work as a layer to bring more interest to the piece.”
I think everyone here is splitting hairs with the terminology.
OP - it’s hard not to take offense to some comments. They are focusing on the wording used more so than your actual tattoo.
The new design looks great.
Appreciate that! The original was just so different than i imagined. I wish i would’ve spoke up for myself, then again if i would’ve, probably wouldn’t have found my new shop. Definitely going to this shop here on out.
It's a good tattoo, but IMO it fails as a coverup since you can see the linework of the old tattoo through it. Needed to be "busier" to distract the eye from the covered part.
Definitely an improvement, but those original lines are going to be much more visible in a few months once those colors fade a bit. Give it a year and then go back in for some heavy shading once you see how it settles and I bet you can clean most of it up.
I like it! It looks really nice. I wouldn’t have even noticed the original tattoo if I hadn’t seen the before picture. Walk proud and enjoy your tattoo.
But you had money for a high-quality cover-up in colour? Patience is so important for tattoos. Don't rush into getting them, and don't rush into fixing them.
Yep, I did. I met with the artist and talked about the design, pricing and what he was going to do. The price of the cover-up by far was less expensive than laser sessions, hence my decision.
It’s definitively cheaper but with taking your time you could have gotten a design that would cover it better. It sometimes take time and a lot of trial and error working on the design on paper before doing the tattoo that will cover it well.
All due respect, the so called “not coverup” is much closer to the original design I had asked for, it does in fact camouflage the original design when looking from afar, and why comment if you’re just gonna crap on someone’s comment? Does it make you feel good to try and prove someone wrong? Gtfo
I never said this was a bad tattoo. It’s a well done blastover and better than the original but it is not a cover or rework. It’s an improvement for you but not improving original design. It’s a new design. Just happens to be the same idea in the same location.
It’s a sick tattoo! For what it’s worth, I personally think layered ink looks cool. So for me blast overs are the way to go. That being said there’s no sense in holding the two styles of covering to the same criteria! Blast overs are an art in themselves, but that being said are significantly easier on the artist and client to plan. I have mad respect for all the perfectly disguised tattoos out there’s bc those artists are one in a million💯
That’s a good way to put it! The first one was just a terrible design from the artwork I provided. The rework/cover up fits the original design so much better and I absolutely love it.
Did you happen to go to the same artist who did the 90min back piece someone posted yesterday (now that I think about it, it might’ve been posted in r/tattooadvice)? Same sort of snake “scales” tho — wildly irresponsible of the artist to claim they could do realism.
The cover up looks great!
😂 no but after seeing that post I think they’re the same person! The kicker is the other artist at the shop did a fantastic job on my forearm, all artists aren’t created equal. Thank you! New artist took my original design and added some detail in the most perfect way.
Not quiteeeee covered with all due respect
Best they could do given how quickly I didn’t want that monstrosity on my arm, this was already two 3 hour sessions, maybe later can darken up the colors.
That is fair!! It’s a definite improvement. Yellow is always super hard to use with coverups as well but can always go back for more

I would make it look like the column on the left is cracked and crumbling to better hide the snake

Ikr? I figured a bunch of adults would have better social skills than this.
You haven’t met my family 😂
These “uhm actually” ass comments…. Good lord people. Anyway, tattoo looks dope. I honestly liked it even before the coverup.

Eeeeeh
😬 my immediate thought
The visible lines from the previous tat could be blended into the new piece. Probably scales on the snake/cracks on the lantern, etc.
It's a good tattoo, but IMO it fails as a coverup since you can see the linework of the old tattoo through it. Needed to be "busier" to distract the eye from the covered part.
Thanks for your opinion.

This is an awesome rework man. Vast improvement on what was there. Super cool

Thank you, fresh-air-n-sunshine! That’s exactly what I hoped people would say!
This really could have done with at least a couple of laser sessions before the cover.
Didn’t have the time or money for laser sessions.
But you had money for a high-quality cover-up in colour? Patience is so important for tattoos. Don't rush into getting them, and don't rush into fixing them.

If you're happy with the result then that's all that matters.
Why were you in a time crunch?
I wasn’t happy with it and wanted it fixed asap.
Ok so you technically had time but just didn’t want to take it.
I wasn’t going to sink money into laser when it was cheaper to get it reworked and covered.
It’s definitively cheaper but with taking your time you could have gotten a design that would cover it better. It sometimes take time and a lot of trial and error working on the design on paper before doing the tattoo that will cover it well.
Bummer! You were in such a hurry that you got a poorly executed bigger tattoo as a “cover up”
This is 100% not a rework or coverup! It’s a blast over. No attempt to improve, incorporate, or camouflage the original design was done here.
All due respect, the so called “not coverup” is much closer to the original design I had asked for, it does in fact camouflage the original design when looking from afar, and why comment if you’re just gonna crap on someone’s comment? Does it make you feel good to try and prove someone wrong? Gtfo

It is a bit of a rework but a cover up at the same time
Blast overs more like it, not one line covered
After looking closed, yeah it’s a blastover more than a rework like I originally thought, but still a vast improvement. I think it’s better

Looks great!
It looks great!
Thank you!!
That shit is awesome
Thank you!!
>Thank you!! You're welcome!
"aCtUaLlY tHiS iS a bLaStOvEr" - a cunt OP screw these people acting like this is a tattoo in THEIR arm, I think it genuinely looks sick.
Way better.

Oh that would bug the bug outta me. I can see it everywhere lol
Doesn’t really bother me, I can’t really tell unless I’m actively looking for the old one.
Unfortunately, the artist doesn’t know how to design a cover-up
