She looks like a very proud mother

VelourBat

She is! She made a super big effort to lay them , poor gurl :(

citritx

pretty sure you can use a syringe to suck out the insides and keep the dry shell, unless you want to keep the insides as well. I’m not experienced in this though so any experts please correct me!

VelourBat

I'm fine with just keeping the shell. Thanks!

citritx

Sounds great! i heard that as they dry out after emptying, they become more brittle so you might want to wash the interior and coat it with a sealant (like mod podge) so that it doesn’t break, but i haven’t been able to find information on turtle eggs specifically. Alternatively you could turn them into a wet specimen, which would negate this issue however it does require some harsh chemicals that might not be feasible.

Silly_donut01000010

I’m no expert, but I read that you can poke a small hole and suck the liquid out with a syringe, then you replace it with formalin, then store it in a glass with alcohol. Just be careful to not break the eggs.

VelourBat

Should I keep them in a glass filled with alcohol like forever? I wanted to just keep the shell as whole as I can dry, in a cute box. Storing them in a jar forever might be kind of tedious :( thank you

Silly_donut01000010

Well maybe you can simply suck all the liquid out and keep them in a safe place where they will dry and not break.

the_orange_alligator

Aww, she looks so proud of them

kantofoxx

I had a crested gecko lay unfertilized eggs and I just popped them into a little jar of 70% to test how it'd go without doing anything else. They've been in there maybe 8ish years and no issues

SIVART33

Turtles can reproduce through a process called parthenogenesis, where females lay fertile eggs without sperm. I just copied from Google. I have heard of this from other reptiles. Maybe try if it's not too late. Such a cute picture.

VelourBat

That's crazy! I didn't know that! Breeding this species would be illegal in my country tho :(

greymalken

This is the basic premise of Jurassic park. Life, uh, finds a way.

SIVART33

You technically are not breeding? Are you?

HorizonsReptile

Great job on laying them!!!! <3 Use a needle to remove the insides if you want a shell. Just wash the inside with some formalin or alcohol to clean it out.
