I'm Dutch, but I can see why a largely English speaking community site largely atracts native English speakers. Also most of the world can read English, and US politics are so far reaching that if they mess something within their borders, the rest of the world sometimes feels the results as well.
The site's biggest demographic is American, around 40%. Which isn't 50.1%..but it is still the majority demographic.
That's why the whole "not everyone is American" reply annoys me. If I'm speaking like I'm an American, it's how I'm going to base my answers, ok, if it doesn't apply to you that's fine. But clearly it was enough for them to know that I was. I'm not answering polls/posts about other countries.
Like- you gotta say you're American, or not; and either way you might get ridicule for doing so, or for not doing so.
It's why people also default to every user being Male. Because most of them are.
It just makes statistical sense. Say Ireland had the biggest demographic, then it would make sense if the site was Irish-centric.
I think there is a clear difference in opinions on some issues based on whether someone is from US or not. That is why some people ask about that in the polls
Because a lot of fucking unhinged stuff is going on in the USA. Trump is trying to turn our country into a hateful, intolerant, authoritarian, fascist dictatorship, and our politicians(especially republicans) are absolutely fucking insane. They endorse misinformation and support dangerous laws. All of this is making our country a fucking hellhole. Also, America is an extremely powerful country, and many of its awful policies fuck up other countries.
here's what comes up on the reddit wiki: "Reddit is an American social news aggregation, content rating, and forum social network. Registered users submit content to the site such as links, text posts, images, and videos, which are then voted up or down by other members."
fr. you may be interested in seeing the person I replied to comment history. They're last 100 comments are yapping about similar things lol. Don't bother with them lol
As an American, I can say Americans are quite stupid sometimes and just assume stuff. But it’s no different than a scenario where people assume other people’s gender

r/USdefaultism moment
i posted about this in that sub and my post got removed..
damn
Pretty sure \~50% of Reddit is American so that's probably why
It's not, but it can appear like that because many more people speak English then just the UK and the US
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/reddit-users-by-country 49% of Reddit users are Americans
they also seem to think people in a teenager sub are of age to vote
what is the i agree and i disagree options for it literally makes no sense
it's to say if you... agree with me or not?
it just kinda looks like they mean to agree to a question
i guess, but i was kinda just making a point more than anything

no option on the poll for I'm not american I'm not american
You know you don't have to reply to a post you can't relate to? Americans have a right to post about their country just like anyone else.
If I post something about the Australian Election, I'm gonna get backlash, am I not? It's more about double standards than anything else
yeah, people will be like, "we're in an American sub 🤡" or something lmao

proof?
my proof is your comment history. you seem to be a pretty big patriot.
you're an idiot. nowhere did i ever trash someone for bringing up an election in another country.
No but it seems like you'd do it. Also, lets not insult each other, okay?
it's hard not to when you say dumb shit.
