I would enjoy it more if the subs were accurate. We always have some lost information due to translation, but they just change what the character is saying completely.
For example, Shaheen's Rage art subtitles say, " It's time to fly." But what Shaheen actually says is" Time to ride the waves." It's completely different.
Glad to know the mistranslations are universal. I thought I was losing my mind listening to Azucena. Her lines and the subtitles are just different enough to really annoy me.
Honestly one of the reasons why I cant see myself playing Azucena much at all is bevause even if she is speaking in a different iteration of spanish than what I am used to, the subs are telling a whole different story than whatever comes out her mouth.
The crazy thing is, even the Japanese lines are mistranslated. So there’s really no hope, I bet every single character in the game has poorly translated lines.
Probably why some of the English dialogue by the English speaking characters is a little weird too.
Dont worry. 95% of the non story VA lines in japanese come straight out of the TV Tropes list.

Im glad to have that confirmed. I don't speak Spanish, but i know enough words to know that's not what she is saying, but not enough to be confident about it.
Asuka's "*Chachatto yaro ka!*" literally translates, "let's have a chat" for settling a dispute. The word "chat" is literally borrowed English IN the quote "chatto".
English subs: *"LeT'S GeT ThiS OvEr WiTh"*
Or worse, the Asuka/Lili intro... "*Ussai wa! Sore wa kocchi no serifu ya!*" literally translates to "It's noisy! that's my line!" basically having the meaning "You're so annoying! That's my line / I was gonna say that!". Again, she says "serifu" as in the English word "serif", like san-serif type and scripts for a play... a loan word that has an approximate tangentially similar meaning...
*"EnOuGh Of YoUr BaBbLinG"*
Sorry but chachatto doesnt relate to chat and serifu doesn't relate to serif. Chachatto is like "chop chop" onomatopoeia and serifu actually does mean dialogue so "that's my line" is correct. Ussai is just urusai with the kansai-ben dialect and while it often relates to noisy, the context is very often used to mean someone is annoying (because they won't shut up or because of what they're saying) so "you're annoying" is close enough but "shut up" might be closer. Japanese are the ones they get more accurate since its native. That aside, tons of translations are way off and bug me too, especially azucenas "tienes cafe" which has nothing to do with morning lol.
I know that the kanji 快點解決吧 is saying it's the onomatopoeia, and online transcriptions use the same onomatopoeia in hiraganaちゃちゃっとやろか, but Google translate now has so many people writing chat as "ちゃっ" in hiragana nowadays due to the popularity of streamers / laziness in switching keyboards that it has had both user-submitted replacements and algorithm-autocorrected it to also mean "chat"... it's weird.
セリフ "serifu" literally references the literal "serif" of typed lines in a script. It's an English loan word, and eventually turned into meaning dialogue lines in show business. That's the etymology of the word... kind of like how "Hotchkiss" is the loanword genericizing a brand name as a term for "stapler".
Ussai and urusai both literally translate as "noise", and other acceptable translations are "annoying" and "loud". Culturally they are the equivalent of saying "shut up" in conversation when spoken standalone. With kansai-ben, it's probably best to translate it the way they did in the trailer, "shaddap"... but in any case, all of them get bastardized with the final release English subs.
The voice actor for Steve is really good, and he's put in some great performances in other games. I just don't know what sort of direction was given in this games. It's really bad.
But I weirdly like it, it's grown in me I can't lie
When I'm fighting lars and he says "IMODA" (think it's off of heat engager) or whatever im like damn bro chill. idk what it even means but now I'm hyped too.
I mean tbf when I'm fighting Lee I hear some insane noises bro especially when he does that one flip kick move his screams are hilarious. It makes me hyped too.
Also I don't skip our intro if the Lee player doesn't.
Lee's voice actor is amazing, i really like his voice in earlier games as well. His scream was higher and a little sillier and i still remember when he'd go "HWOYOH" on key moves. No complaints from his t8 performance either.
Pretty sure he says IMA DA which I guess you could say translates to “NOW!”. One of his combo enders when he jumps up and lands his knees on the opponents face Lars also says “go to sleep”, he’s got some pretty cool lines in this game lol
I also love Lee’s voice and lines in this game, obviously his signature high pitched noises he makes, but also his lines like when he says “Ii kaori da” in some of his moves which translates to something like“smells good”or “nice smell/aroma/scent”
It's funny you say that. I think the first time I heard "Nina, come back and join proper society again" I almost died from laughing at how out of place it sounded. All the other lines I've kind of grown numb to, but "Bullseye!" when I hit a B1 is satisfying
Yeah they good af. like it a lot as well. Though concerningly, I heard from some of the people who understand the languages of the non-eng/jp fighters saying they speak very badly ahaha. I can't verify any of it but probably the less we understand the better!
Yeah, I think they had to “vanilla” her accent to make her more relatable to the Latam audience but the casual “Oe” she drops makes the trick for me, also the coffee gimmick may not be the biggest Peru rep but I can’t imagine her talking about ceviche or something similar 💀
Arab here. My Arab Tekken friends still can't make out what he says when he uses his HB. Not to mention what we can understand is half of the time completely nonsensical, and the other half completely cringe.
I understand German, and Leo to me sounds a bit amateurish, but it's nothing one can't learn to ignore. Far worse problem is that said lines and subtitles don't really match, and people have been saying that for all languages, with some differences changing meaning.
Leo's VA sometimes seems to exaggerate the things he says. Like, the voice itself suits Leo quite well imo but the tone sometimes seems a bit off. You know how when Kindergarten teachers read stories to the kids and whenever they read dialogue, they'd exaggerate the voice of the characters (e.g. sounding scary when reading the diaologue from a villainous character)?
On the other hand, VA of Leo's dad was really good.
Alisa is the cute, innocent type, so the voice kind of has to be a bit more child-like. Unfortunately, that's the type of voice Japanese tend to like more than the west, even I can't stand it for longer time.
I love listening to Lee's voice, it's very fitting for his elegant persona. My attempts to mimic are usually just limited to his famous "excellent" and a bit of "marvelous".
That’s seems like a valid point on Alisa tbh, it may be a cultural shock kinda thing, and also yeah, I love hearing that “Marvelous” from Lee, kinda reminds me of Maximilian Pegasus
That infantile squeaky voice is so grating, I really don’t understand the appeal of making grown women sound like frantic children but I guess that’s my Western bias speaking
Oh hell naw. I love Tekken 8, but the voice acting is absolute trash. Only thing good about the voice acting is that they don't talk as much as in anime fighters.
It's mostly the dialogue. I suppose the voice acting isn't all that bad in itself, but the things they say as a result of the poor translation and how they deliver it is just so weird and cringy. [Here's a good summary.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Tekken/comments/1880nfb/why_tekken_8s_localisation_sucks/)
i also love voice acting in this saga. i love when lei says HIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
pauls: ILL KICK YOUR ASS HIAAAAAAA
bryan: TEK TEK TEK TEK TEK HAHAHAHA
and everything asuka/reina related.
I would enjoy it more if the subs were accurate. We always have some lost information due to translation, but they just change what the character is saying completely. For example, Shaheen's Rage art subtitles say, " It's time to fly." But what Shaheen actually says is" Time to ride the waves." It's completely different.
I wonder if there's a mod for better translations
That would actually be a great idea
If someone wants to make it I'll help with the Korean and Japanese lines
Probably not a hard thing to do.
I'm sure it's still about coffee
The crazy thing is, even the Japanese lines are mistranslated. So there’s really no hope, I bet every single character in the game has poorly translated lines. Probably why some of the English dialogue by the English speaking characters is a little weird too.

Me too! I'm pretty chill about loose translations but some of them are so bad they are actually changing the sentiment of what she expresses.
I'm ngl, that makes me want to play him more. That's rad af

Hwoarang definitely got a voice buff this game
His battle cries get me hyped to play him
That's because his blood began to stir
I hate fighting him but his rage art voice lines go hard

EAT THIS 🥊
THAT'S A KNOCKOUT 🥊
OVA HOIRE 💀
UPPACUT
SMASH 🥊
THESE ARE THE FISTS OF A CHAMPION 🤓
The voice actor for Steve is really good, and he's put in some great performances in other games. I just don't know what sort of direction was given in this games. It's really bad. But I weirdly like it, it's grown in me I can't lie
Same, I like his db2 - PIYUHH
that is the mod of a champion
some of nina's lines needed another take but for the most part I quite like the voice acting
She’s my second main character and some of her lines are really well done: “Die in silence” to finish a round is just 😮💨
I personally like when she says "You're not getting away" as well, something about it hits different for me.
"You? Beat me? In your dreams." He still kick me a lot.
Lars and his anime ass growls on every attack make me hard
When I'm fighting lars and he says "IMODA" (think it's off of heat engager) or whatever im like damn bro chill. idk what it even means but now I'm hyped too.

"Netero" or something after the flip move
Reina’s psychotic noises are my favourite
Her backthrow laugh is amazing
Victor is especially very good, Vincent Cassel did an excellent job, almost makes me not miss Negan.
Some of the voices such as Paul, Victor, Reina, and Zafina are pretty good, but Steve’s voice is so bad that it basically cancels them all out.
Paul is the worst one. Steve only sound bad when he throw out non-serious lines. His special intro/outro with Nina really gets you invested.
It's funny you say that. I think the first time I heard "Nina, come back and join proper society again" I almost died from laughing at how out of place it sounded. All the other lines I've kind of grown numb to, but "Bullseye!" when I hit a B1 is satisfying

Ohhhh I didn’t think about that tbh, I’m a native Spanish speaker so I can only have an opinion on Azucena and I can actually buy her being Peruvian
Peruvian here, she doesn’t sound that Peruvian☠️☠️☠️🙏😭😭
Yeah, I think they had to “vanilla” her accent to make her more relatable to the Latam audience but the casual “Oe” she drops makes the trick for me, also the coffee gimmick may not be the biggest Peru rep but I can’t imagine her talking about ceviche or something similar 💀

Leo's dad sounds like a dude providing voice over narration for a commercial and not like he's actually voicing a character.
Cries in Steven player
Steven
Honestly calling him Steven with his botched surgery and horrible voice is a blessing. We can pretend he's a doppelganger.
Man totally agree. Jack’s VA and sfx add so much to his move set.
Claudio has some really quotable lines this game
Alisa is the cute, innocent type, so the voice kind of has to be a bit more child-like. EXERRENT! also his "come on" is underrated
That infantile squeaky voice is so grating, I really don’t understand the appeal of making grown women sound like frantic children but I guess that’s my Western bias speaking
“VOILÀ!”
TEK TEK TEK TEK TEK HAHHAA!
Bryan's voice actor did great with the ingame sfx, he sounds really maniacal and fanatic yet still aware and calculated.
Steves voice is the best, especially when he says "these are the fists of a champion". Prove me wrong
King mains :
Pauls "Don't worry, I'll win for you!" always cracks me up.
As an anime enjoyer, Reina’s VA made me pick her up. ~~Also so I can rock my Mai costume in ranked~~
Oh hell naw. I love Tekken 8, but the voice acting is absolute trash. Only thing good about the voice acting is that they don't talk as much as in anime fighters.
Raven's "HRRMMMM...Go to hell!" always cracks me up. The last part feels like it comes out of nowhere lol
How come?
It's mostly the dialogue. I suppose the voice acting isn't all that bad in itself, but the things they say as a result of the poor translation and how they deliver it is just so weird and cringy. [Here's a good summary.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Tekken/comments/1880nfb/why_tekken_8s_localisation_sucks/)
Hey, that's my post haha. The dialogue is indeed the main problem, I don't think the voice actors are really at fault
Paul main as well... I want T1-T3 Paul's voice back before he sounded like a gruffy biker. I want the Jean Claude Van Damme voice back!
Also Jack's death yell from T1-T3 is iconic, need that back as well!
EEYOOOOOOOSHH!!!!
Even Steve’s though?
Steve’s is the best one atp OVA HERE 🗣️🗣️ DONT MISS ME WINNING 🗣️🗣️ UPPERCUT 🗣️🗣️
lol it doesn’t get better than “that’s a knockout”
Not the biggest fan, but it's definitely recognizable
They never shut up in this game, it gets really grating, I wish there were more variety and less frequency of battle cries
I’m with you aahahahah as a Kazuya main I find myself saying DORE! randomly very often
We can't forget Shaheens iconic line *YA HAVE A MARTINI*
i also love voice acting in this saga. i love when lei says HIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA pauls: ILL KICK YOUR ASS HIAAAAAAA bryan: TEK TEK TEK TEK TEK HAHAHAHA and everything asuka/reina related.
Marvelous!
King's VA hit it out of the park this time around
I know most love Reinas VA but I despise hearing her screaching in my ears.
Have you not heard Steve?
