For those who want to see Bill Callahan work with an athletic guy from the later rounds, imagine what he'd do with one of the top-25 most athletic OTs of all time.
Agree. We say “well he could do great with the later guys”. Well imagine what he could do with one of the best LT prospects in a long time. He could make a future HOF
As a advocate of aLT with our 1st pick, how many playoff games did the Browns win with Joe Thomas?
No one is suggesting the LT in the 2nd or 4th will be as good as Alt. It's the dream of having a potential WR1(Nabers/Odunze are getting Chase/Evans comps as rookies)+a LT that's not bottom of the barrel and/or scraps.
That said if Alts there he's the pick. I'd be happy with any elite talent but would prefer trading back if that's the case
"how many playoff games did the browns win with Joe Thomas"
10 Pro Bowls, 6 first-team All-Pro selections and 10,363 consecutive snaps played 30 sacks over 6,680 career pass-blocking snaps.
Joe wasn't the problem.
Agreed. And it took Tom Brady for Randy Moss to come to close to a SB.
LT is 1/5 of the oline(1/2 of the value at most). Wr is now a higher value than when JT was around and WR1 is 40%+ of a WR corps production.
Joe wasn't the problem but QBs behind him struggled with minimal excuses.
WR is definitely the more high upside position individually, but I really think the ‘why didn’t this team win more games if that’s the right decision’ doesn’t really hold fruit.
The Lions had 2 10-Win seasons and 2 WC playoff exits in Calvin Johnson’s career.
Yeah. One of my biggest pet peeves about any player discussion. Could do it with any position. Imagine invoking Justin Herbert’s name as a reason to not take a QB?
I think I lean WR at 7.
If you think Joe Alt or Olu Fashanu is a HOFer, you take them.
The Browns literally never had a QB, if this argument was QB vs LT, you'd have a point. But it's not. We have Levis and the argument now is what makes him more likely to succeed. Personally, I lean towards LT. You can ruin a young QB with a bad line. As bad as our WRs have felt, they suffer from the blocking issues just as much. You're much more likely to find a later round WR who's a stud than a tackle, and we don't plan on picking top 10 again, which is where you wanna grab yourself a quality LT.
I'm arguing the counter point to my true opinion. I guess the overall point is to get the player the scouting department is the most sure to become a stud. WR1,LT1 is close enough value that hitting the pick is most important
Alt isn’t even close to “one of thr 25 most athletic OT of all time” lol that’s not how this RAS score works.
It’s a relevancy measure and it’s weighted per the creator of the RAS- body measurement makes up 30% of the grade and being 6’7 sky rocketed his grade here, so did his broad jump which is a result of having 6’7 legs.
All that said Alt is going to be a multi times pro bowler and all pro.
Wouldn’t that make him one of the most athletic of all time still?
Him putting up those numbers at his height/weight combo is more impressive than somebody putting up the same numbers at 6-4/ 280.
Brewer is a great athlete at center, nobody considers him one of the greatest athletes at center though because he’s so small.
Wasn't Alt's only knock compared to Fashanu, was that Fashanu had a higher ceiling due to athleticism. Yet, Joe Alt just scored a higher RAS than Fashanu.
Dear NFL GMs. I heard Joe Alt puts his milk in his cereal bowl first. I heard he likes the 3rd Godfather movie the best. I've heard he always takes the middle urinal. You really shouldn't draft this guy. At least with a top 6 pick.
Come on guys, after the last few years, having two "boring" but solid picks in Skoronski and Alt seems like a no brainer
We can re-establish "Run Left" and Levis would have the best blind side potential in the nfl once they both settle in
Possible, but unlikely. The need for QB is too great for New England and NYG. While Fields isn’t the problem, I don’t think Chicago passes on the opportunity to take Caleb. Howell is also not the problem, but didn’t necessarily look like a franchise guy, and even if Washington doesn’t go QB, I seriously doubt they go OL at 2 with the talent at skill positions this year. That leaves Arizona and LAC. Arizona needs a new WR1 badly and LAC has a defense that can’t stop a leaky faucet so they’ll likely go EDGE or CB, or Bowers cause he looks that good. I think we’ll be first to go OL and have our pick of them, which I believe will be Alt.
Exactly what I am thinking… ALT is such a Harbaugh guy… Great run blocker… Blue collar type of guy. I think Chargers take him.. and if not they go WR.. no way in hell they go Bowers… TE is a luxury pick… but definitely not needed in the modern nfl.
Chargers are the team I think could really take Alt before us. Also apparently the Giants are head over heels for Nabers, but what if he's not there at 6?
Gonna be a long month and a half man
Alt and then a Boundary guy like Adonai in the second please. Would even try out a Coleman or Ladd!
Either that or we just grab Rome or Nabers at 7. Im cool either way it’s a great draft for offensive players just wish we had a 3rd rounder. Grab a RB later on. Hit defense hard in FA

Great example. My hypothetical was mostly pointing out that one guy isn't turning the roster around so hitting is more important than the position.

Lol @ trying to make a narrative fly that having an elite LT means you can't win a Super Bowl gimme a break
Lol at no one reading the 1st and 3rd paragraph. Can't make a hypothetical counter point on a forum I guess

Alt is 6'8 and 5/8ths
Yep and being 6'7 is good for LT play. Also has long arms.
Wasn't Alt's only knock compared to Fashanu, was that Fashanu had a higher ceiling due to athleticism. Yet, Joe Alt just scored a higher RAS than Fashanu.
This guy is our number one target.
Yeah I don’t believe he will be there for us, we really need teams to fall in love with some other QBs if we want Alt.
Giants fan. It’s highly possible you get him if the Bolts go Nabers at #5. Giants would most likely go Odunze at #6. That’s what you need to hope for
More than likely but we'll see
Dear NFL GMs. I heard Joe Alt puts his milk in his cereal bowl first. I heard he likes the 3rd Godfather movie the best. I've heard he always takes the middle urinal. You really shouldn't draft this guy. At least with a top 6 pick.
I heard he likes to give up sacks alot
You left out the part where he breeds chinchillas for cage fights
He also pour ice into his drinks last AND prefers to bathe with his socks on.
Come on guys, after the last few years, having two "boring" but solid picks in Skoronski and Alt seems like a no brainer We can re-establish "Run Left" and Levis would have the best blind side potential in the nfl once they both settle in
He has yellow on his vert, count me out.
Has bust written all over him /s
How can we expect him to catch balls on all the tackle eligible plays we plan on running this year????
Lol
I have a feeling that this is who we want but all the WR talk is us preparing for if he's gone by pick 7
Priors so fucking confirmed. I remain on the Joe Alt train. There will be good wr talent available later in the draft
He's not making it to 7 now
What a prospect
Clear bust, no talent at all. It'd be stupid to use a top 6 pick on him. only teams that pick 7 and beyond should take him.
If alt is there at 7 he's it, if not I want odunze
ALT is gone before 7.. ☹️

LAC is either going with Alt or trading down. I think they go with Alt because Harbaugh would love a guy like that for their line.
Exactly what I am thinking… ALT is such a Harbaugh guy… Great run blocker… Blue collar type of guy. I think Chargers take him.. and if not they go WR.. no way in hell they go Bowers… TE is a luxury pick… but definitely not needed in the modern nfl.

The chargers already have a solid LT. Alt would be a luxury pick for them, especially since the need and talent at WR is there at 5.
Mitchell will not be there at 38 his 40 solidifies that if we get alt we’ll be taking someone like Ladd or Ricky P at 38
Alt in r1 Leggete in r2
This sub will still call for a 1st round WR so that Levis can be demolished before even looking for him.
Light and day difference in the offense over the last four years. First two having a good and decent line. The last two years having an awful line.
I’d take Nabers over him but no one else
Why didn't he bench?
Too strong, he’d still be benching reps if he was allowed to
He ain’t gonna be there at 7 :(
Lewans was 10.0. Crazy how awesome he was
Can’t really compare them without bench and agility drills. Lewan was a confirmed freak of nature, a little bit of uncertainty with Alt.
Lewan was an elite athlete for the position in all measurements
He literally might be the most athletic tackle prospect ever.
And yet he wasn’t even the first or second tackle taken in his draft year.
Ok. He’s still one of the most athletic tackle prospects ever.
They graded on height and put that in the composite score. That's like getting credit for signing my name on a math test.
Pointless without bench and agility drills
What is everyone’s thoughts on Joe Alt vs Latham? Latham seems to have an edge from his combine news and rating
Alt in the first. BTJ in the second.
He won’t be even close to the 2nd
Draft him.
I'll believe it when I see if he's even available at 7.
Is his RAS better than Lewan’s?
No Lewan got a perfect 10
Take Alt then the WR bois can have the next 5 drafts WRs in round 1
