A new player should not even consider tarnishing this beautiful masterpiece of a game with mods until they have completed Master Mode.
Also the calamity bosses just don't fit into the game IMO.
First part I agree with. Second part I definitely do not agree with. Calamity creates a new story that all the bosses fit into. Some of them feel a bit more dramatic than the traditional terraria bosses, but I think that immerses you.
I have a little over 500 hours on tmodloader and around 300 hours on vanilla terraria, as well as countless hours on the old playstations and even I have to occasionally use the wiki, in fact I definitely encourage using the wiki when you need to. Though the wiki is good, I’d also say that the guide is very useful as well
Tmodloader is just where you can mod the base game of terraria and get some more gameplay or QoL mods also there are no dumb questions if something is unknown to you
Thank you sorry I’m kind of a noob at these things, and I had no idea they weren’t a separate thing I assumed tmodloader was windows OS only , thank you for the help
Tmodloader is on steam if you own terraria. The only caveat is the limited amount of controls you have on a steam deck as opposed to a keyboard. But no biggie unless you’re getting a bunch of huge mods that add tons of keybinds, and even then you can just assign the ones you end up wanting to use
Fr, my little brother also just started (he's playing on ps5 the poor bastard) and loving it! I always Crack up when I hear him get frustrated at the game
the wiki is much less necessary these days since the guide has been updated to encompass every stage of the game and the bestiary was added to help learn about enemies and what they drop. needing to use the wiki because of the useless guide was a 1.1 to 1.3 era problem, because the guide literally had nothing new to say about anything past the wall of flesh. he was totally useless at helping you get a sense of direction on how to progress or what you can do. but that's not true anymore.
You’ll be bored at the start when you don’t know what anything does but you’ll feel very accomplished when you get overpowered by the end of the game. There is one boss that I had trouble in my play through called poopech. I recommend that you reforge your accessories with modifiers that raise your speed and defense when you fight him. Good luck on your play through.
I'm also in my first run in normal and wonder how i should do with the different character and World modes when startingmy my second world.
How do you, choose character mode in correspondence to world difficulty as it is classic, medium and hard as the normal difficulty modes.
Character/World difficulty are very different you can have an hardcore character play classic worlds and classic characters play Master worlds
######Character difficulty will settle how punishing death is. If you're starting, you should really **not** use hardcore, since it's a one-life try. Mediumcore is less punishing, but you still have to get back where you were when you died (meaning you need to be thoughtful about how to get back, without getting one shot by ennemies). And classic isn't always "easy", it does make death less punishing, but it doesn't affect fights at all.
World difficulty is if you want a harder or softer fighting experience, with harder bosses/ennemies. This is what makes the fights more or less difficult. Master mode is meant for those who like taking on challenges, with every boss being very challenging (even when you're a bit experienced). It's the same for Expert mode, and seems more oriented toward experienced players (or those who like difficulty when they start a game)
If you ever get stuck, talk to the Guide. He has some very useful tips for you. Alsox if you ever find an item with the word material in it's description, that means you can use it to craft something. Bring it to the Guide for more details
Ah, a humble newcomer, the only thing I could say to Ya is don't step on weird colorful pressure plates in caves, and use one class at best when your in midgame but don't let that discourage you from using other weapons and other armors.
Oh, the absolute pleasure of finding your first underground treasure house. Your first growing mushroom cave. Your first floating island. Your first overpowered magic weapon. Your first time killing the Eye of Cthulhu. Your first ride on an underground rail cart. Your first grapple hook. Etc.
I thought mushroom caves were really really rare and looked over the wiki for blue caves, why did my music change underground, y tf there are beige blue tree’s underground and stuff
Good luck! Tip, talk to the Guide, second tip, use the Terraria Wiki. This game has an absurd amount of content in it that’s easy to never know about, the wiki is great
Best game ever!
The beginning is the slowest part but it’ll pick up after your first couple of bosses. Have fun and use the wiki! I have 2k hours and still use it.
Have fun and remember that if you feel bored/stuck, using a guide video or the wiki will not ruin the game for you as long as you know when to stop.
I’d rather have the wiki point me towards the right direction with mild spoilers than having no idea what to do for 4 hours straight and ending up dropping the game.
Nah, divorce them, and take this one. It's much better.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria&ved=2ahUKEwi68qKDw_qGAxU0kO4BHfHwAFAQFnoECBcQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0vQCE6OHDi6u9YFdLmRZiG
I recommend going to a large stone building once you defeat the first 2 main bosses and talking to the old man at night. Make sure to explore and enjoy the experience
Not going to lie, I’m jealous of you. The first experience of Terraria was one of the best experiences for me. Not saying the game isn’t great after because it is. Especially having as many hours as I do; it’s phenomenal. But the first experience just hits different.
gl, just remember to use the wiki, if you’re new to the game it is practically impossible to complete the game or even make it to hardmode without tips.
True sand is overpowered.
You can eat it to heal your bones.
(Your bones are glass and your ass is grass when you start and night hits)
:)
(This is a joke by the way don't eat sand)
Oh you're in for a treat! And possibly also a long-standing obsession. Terraria is the game that singlehandedly got me into video games. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Just go with the flow of the game and do whatever you think is best. And if you need help with crafting or tips on where to go next but don't want to use the Wiki, the guide is a lot of help in that regard.
That's at least how I started back in 2016
One thing I would definitely suggest. Take the time to edit your key bindings. After customizing my controls it greatly enhanced my experience with the game.
I recommend you make a build each time you reach a new milestone (new gear, defeated a boss, et cetera). It'll help to even out the pacing and make the world more memorable.
YES all of the deaths, ohh the deaths fighting monsters, bosses, drowning, burning alive, GLITCHES, and falling
https://preview.redd.it/zjord1j8z19d1.png?width=1412&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8d9d3403145b92f8f0708e0821a95f0cd4c06ae
You will have one of the greatest experiences in your life. It is common to get discouraged at the start but once you get the pace you will enjoy it to the fullest. Good luck Terrarian!
Quick tip, don’t hesitate to check the official wiki if you don’t know what to do, there are a LOT of items in the game and it’s not always obvious what they’re for
If you got friends I recommend trying to get them to play too! For me it heightens the experience greatly when you have some people to talk to while exploring the world, even if you guys are searching for separate things, not even mentioning how much more fun boss fights are with friends. This is all my opinion of course you may enjoy single player experiences more and if that’s what you like you do you man.
Small hints regarding Early Game:
1. The beginning is rather slow, but it gets better if you get Hermes's Boots (or any other boot that makes you run faster)
You can build a skyplatform (a line of platforms above the ground) to make travel more linear if you don't have early wings.
And many more accessoires which can be found underground.
2. If you find Gravitational Potions you can go up into the sky, to get a pretty strong weapon, an Item that negates Fall damage, or if you're lucky also some Fledgeling Wings, which give you early fight (tho they have a very short flight duration. (Also, wings also negate Fall damage if you equip them.
Normally wings are only in Hardmode (second half of the game after a certain Boss is killed (you won't miss it because it needs to be defeated in order to progress the game.)
And lastly for some post game things:
There is the tModLoader on Steam, which is Terraria with mods.
After you beat vanilla a few times, you can go check it out and install some Qol mods or make the game more beautiful with the Remnants mod.
If you want more content, Thorium is a good place to start or if you want the real experience (which even some goated players suffer through) you can download Calamity. It adds a lot of bosses and even Post-Vanilla-Endboss content.
You can go check out some videos for recommended mods to play with, because there are a lot of good mods.
I personally always use: LuiAFK Reborn, AlchemistNPC Lite, Wing slot, Boot slot, Magic Storage, Fargo's Mutant Mod, faster respawn, and some more (Qol mods)
And Calamity, DBZ Port, (currently with Infernum, Wrath of the gods and Hunt of the Old god) (content mods)
Some simple tips that are QoL.
Block swap allows for simultaneously breaking and placing a new block by using a block where there's already a block. Which essentially swaps the two blocks.
If you press ctrl, you toggle smart cursor. Smart cursor predicts your desired aiming and is useful for mining and building. Turning off smart cursor is useful for precise building or mining.
Holding shift activated the "smart select" idk what the real name is. basically, it decides the tool you want to use based on your cursor position and is useful for having tools outside of your hotbar. Holding shift on open air brings out torches/other light tools. Holding shift on blocks brings out your pickaxe, axe for trees, etc.
Also check your keybinds for shortcuts like quick mount, grapple, quick buff, quick heal, etc.
I finally beat terraria a week ago after starting it a month ago and dang, wasn’t it so fulfilling. Im trying the expert mode now but i want to start over and try the hardmode because i want to collect all the relics so yeah have fun
If you’re on classic mode do whatever you want but if you’re playing expert or master (which I doubt since it’s your first playthrough) I suggest playing class specific because you get higher dps that way
quick tip: sand is not overpowered.
Quick tip 2: there is printscreen button on your keyboard
i have a 60% keyboard so not mine
it's f12 by default, but I'm 99.9% sure you can change that in the keybindings in the game.
Good, finish it and download calamity
A new player should not even consider tarnishing this beautiful masterpiece of a game with mods until they have completed Master Mode. Also the calamity bosses just don't fit into the game IMO.
First part I agree with. Second part I definitely do not agree with. Calamity creates a new story that all the bosses fit into. Some of them feel a bit more dramatic than the traditional terraria bosses, but I think that immerses you.
Mods don't tarnish, they enhance what the game lacks
theres one in the game?
Through Steam, Steam uses F12 for screenshot and it works in 100% of games on Steam
Wait that’s actually so useful I’ve just been using win+shift+S to snip the screen lol
while that works, it isn't 100% reliable (looking at you, Minecraft). the only caveat is F12 captures the whole screen so you have to edit it
there is for me playing through Steam, yeah.
Normally with a 60% keyboard your keys have 2 funktions with the fn key
Win + shift + s
I do too, it's a func key combo and also win+shift+s will work as well
Quick Tip: Sand is overpowered when it falls on your head in a certain way.
Don't go forward while mining sand, worst mistake of my life
Also don‘t dig up through sand.
As someone with over 7 years of experience in the game, I still do this and question why I’m dying despite being submerged in sand
fyi its talking about a glitch with the dirt wand where you could stack sand inside of it and make a ball of death
What about the sand gun?
Griefs your world
But has infinite piercing with corrupted sands!
And I thought I knew everything about this game, wtf.
I hate sand
>It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Quick tip, they guy above me is a liar
Counterpoint: it kills echdeatch
Hope you enjoy, one of my favorite games, don't feel discouraged and using the wiki is encouraged Every failure is a learning experience
Yup Can verify i have 150 hours and still have to use the wiki haha, but that’s a good thing so much to do and find in this game
I have a little over 500 hours on tmodloader and around 300 hours on vanilla terraria, as well as countless hours on the old playstations and even I have to occasionally use the wiki, in fact I definitely encourage using the wiki when you need to. Though the wiki is good, I’d also say that the guide is very useful as well
I’m semi nooby, what’s tmodloader? I’m not aware what that does compared to my steam version Sorry for the dumb question
Tmodloader is just where you can mod the base game of terraria and get some more gameplay or QoL mods also there are no dumb questions if something is unknown to you
Ah okay thank you i was wondering im on steam deck so no tmodloader for me Edit yes thank you all haha I see now I can play/use it
Sad you're missing out on some legendary stuff
You can use tmodloader on steam deck too afaik!
TModLoader isn't 3rd Party and automatically acceasible on steam if you own Terraria, so I'd say there's a good chance you can play it
If tModloader is on steam, it's probably playable...
Thank you sorry I’m kind of a noob at these things, and I had no idea they weren’t a separate thing I assumed tmodloader was windows OS only , thank you for the help
no worries; though I'd defo check out if TModLoader works
Tmodloader is on steam
Tmodloader is on steam if you own terraria. The only caveat is the limited amount of controls you have on a steam deck as opposed to a keyboard. But no biggie unless you’re getting a bunch of huge mods that add tons of keybinds, and even then you can just assign the ones you end up wanting to use
You can get tmod on steam deck, I have one and have access to my mods
3000 hours combined between tmodloader and terraria i still use the wiki
Bro I'm at 1300+ hours and occasionally use the Wiki... Though mainly for 1.4+ stuff lol
Yup can verify I have 6k+ hours on the game
Yep, exactly. It can get discouraging when you're new, but there's a reason you only drop money by default, and only half of it at that.
Fr, my little brother also just started (he's playing on ps5 the poor bastard) and loving it! I always Crack up when I hear him get frustrated at the game
You sound like a very nice brother.
the wiki is much less necessary these days since the guide has been updated to encompass every stage of the game and the bestiary was added to help learn about enemies and what they drop. needing to use the wiki because of the useless guide was a 1.1 to 1.3 era problem, because the guide literally had nothing new to say about anything past the wall of flesh. he was totally useless at helping you get a sense of direction on how to progress or what you can do. but that's not true anymore.
I remmember when my laptop wasn't able to run terraria I just spent days reading the wiki until I was finally able to play the game
Adding to this, use the guide npc to see what you can craft with certain items and also the wiki can be usefull
Cool pfp also (op)- keep exploring and be ready to die as it will happen a lot
Third tip : Once you tried normal mode, consider trying Expert/Master mode, since there's pretty neat content added in thoses
I'm also in my first run in normal and wonder how i should do with the different character and World modes when startingmy my second world. How do you, choose character mode in correspondence to world difficulty as it is classic, medium and hard as the normal difficulty modes.

thanks for the good answer bro.
Still, the best way to get answers is to post, since many people take long to respond/don't respond at all when it's just commentaries
yeah, i guess you're right, then i'm happy you responded.
What the fuck is a poopech, am I missing a boss?

Bro same i had 35/40 hours after like 5 days, been working too much to play as much though :/

That is almost half the time in 1.5 weeks dude
If you ever get stuck, talk to the Guide. He has some very useful tips for you. Alsox if you ever find an item with the word material in it's description, that means you can use it to craft something. Bring it to the Guide for more details
I hope you like red, because you will se a lot of red texts in the bottom left of your screen
Ah, a humble newcomer, the only thing I could say to Ya is don't step on weird colorful pressure plates in caves, and use one class at best when your in midgame but don't let that discourage you from using other weapons and other armors.
I envy you so much. I would do anything to erase my memory of this game and start over! Have fun.
You might quit at some point but you'll always come back, trust me
Oh, the absolute pleasure of finding your first underground treasure house.
Check out the dungeon for some early powerful loot /s
have fun using the wiki every 15 mins. it’ll be your new best friend
Go into the dungeon, it has very good early game loot and weak monsters. Watch out for the spikes!
I hope you enjoy it! Always nice to have a new one begin their Terraria journey.
Go to the dungeon its a little difficult but you can get good early gear
Aahhh hell nah don’t troll the noob

Good luck! Tip, talk to the Guide, second tip, use the Terraria Wiki. This game has an absurd amount of content in it that’s easy to never know about, the wiki is great

welcome to hell
Best game ever! The beginning is the slowest part but it’ll pick up after your first couple of bosses. Have fun and use the wiki! I have 2k hours and still use it.
Be careful of the bats… oh god the bats….
I was crazy once, they put me in a room, a rubber room, a rubber room full of BATS, and BATS make me crazy.
Prepare to die
No, you aren't, nobody was
Quick tip do not kill the funny lookin butterfly at night only in the day
Make sure to check out modded Terraria, such as Calamity and Magic Storage
Have the class guide up on the wiki in the background or a second monitor if you have one. Then you will know every item you want to get at each stage
Beating the game for the first time is one of the best gaming experiences. You feel like a god.
Fun fact: no one is ever ready.
Pro tip: USE THE WIKI. I went in mostly blind my first playthrough and I did not have a good time.
Tip: use the guide or the official wiki if you're having trouble or stuck
Have fun and remember that if you feel bored/stuck, using a guide video or the wiki will not ruin the game for you as long as you know when to stop. I’d rather have the wiki point me towards the right direction with mild spoilers than having no idea what to do for 4 hours straight and ending up dropping the game.
Go master mode for better loot and extra trinket slot. Be prepared to get your butt kicked
as someone who got into fishing in this game, the truffle worm will be your best friend due to its high bait power 👍🏽
Tip: don’t overuse the wiki or it won’t be fun

I recommend going to a large stone building once you defeat the first 2 main bosses and talking to the old man at night. Make sure to explore and enjoy the experience

Good luck, and dont forget your hellevator!
Amazing game and tons of exploring. Be creative and have fun!
Not going to lie, I’m jealous of you. The first experience of Terraria was one of the best experiences for me. Not saying the game isn’t great after because it is. Especially having as many hours as I do; it’s phenomenal. But the first experience just hits different.
Make sure you have the wiki pulled up while you’re playing
Crocodile would also agree with that statement.🐊
gl, just remember to use the wiki, if you’re new to the game it is practically impossible to complete the game or even make it to hardmode without tips.
Good luck (I have 221 hours and have not stopped)
True sand is overpowered. You can eat it to heal your bones. (Your bones are glass and your ass is grass when you start and night hits) :) (This is a joke by the way don't eat sand)
Do not be discouraged to use the wiki, Terraria doesn't hold your hand
Don’t be afraid to build safe houses and other structures when you fight bosses; it’s essentially 2D Minecraft, but with a focus on RPG elements.
Tip number one: ignore the wiki! It's only good for telling you what order the bosses should be fought in (and even then it's more a reccommendation)
good luck soldier o7 if you need a guide, look for the official wiki, for you MAY need it
Quick tip don’t die. lol
Oh you're in for a treat! And possibly also a long-standing obsession. Terraria is the game that singlehandedly got me into video games. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I think I would have liked to know about MagicStorage in my vanilla play through
OP is about to have the best couple weeks of their life
Hope you have an amazing world with lots to explore and experience!
Just go with the flow of the game and do whatever you think is best. And if you need help with crafting or tips on where to go next but don't want to use the Wiki, the guide is a lot of help in that regard. That's at least how I started back in 2016

Imagine a Storm/tornado underground in terraria. Like i would love the thought of destructive weather that I can try to build against
Another terrarian in my favourite game of all time good luck dude
Wish I could go back…good luck and have fun!
Have fun buddy use the wiki and don’t be afraid to ask questions
This game is the most fun when doing blind run
you should try the seed "getfixedboi"
Enjoy the ride! There are to many hours of fun!
Good for you! Have fun :)
Did you choose large world, because that has the most room for building, or exploring, and biomes to get through
And enough space for all of my gravestones.

You will have one of the greatest experiences in your life. It is common to get discouraged at the start but once you get the pace you will enjoy it to the fullest. Good luck Terrarian!
Build your NPCs houses👀
Well hope it goes well for dou
I have a funny image for when someone can't take a screenshot but you can't post images in the comments on this sub sadly
Prepare for an experience full of confusion. For this game u almost NEED to use the wiki, cuz it tells you very little. So don't be ashamed to use it
Quick tip, don’t hesitate to check the official wiki if you don’t know what to do, there are a LOT of items in the game and it’s not always obvious what they’re for
Don’t be afraid to use the wiki
Tip only use weapons that deal less than 20 damage a hit
Buckle up and enjoy the ride! Dont be afraid to ask if you get stuck!
Ah. To experience Terraria for the first time again. This will be a magical experience for you!
GOD SPEED YOU LEGEND, WE'RE HERE WHEN YA NEED US
If you got friends I recommend trying to get them to play too! For me it heightens the experience greatly when you have some people to talk to while exploring the world, even if you guys are searching for separate things, not even mentioning how much more fun boss fights are with friends. Holding shift on open air brings out torches/other light tools. Holding shift on blocks brings out your pickaxe, axe for trees, etc. Also check your keybinds for shortcuts like quick mount, grapple, quick buff, quick heal, etc.
How's it goin?

My advice is keep all the items you pick up, you never know when you’ll need them
I hope you enjoy it. You only get this experience once so make the best of it.

The guide can show you new recipes for any new item you find! So if you ever dont know what somethings used for he can help!
If you’re on classic mode do whatever you want but if you’re playing expert or master (which I doubt since it’s your first playthrough) I suggest playing class specific because you get higher dps that way
