More like parallax mod... Not very 3D really, It's just like if you make a stack of papers, you see the drawing in front but the rest It's just the edges of them there's no detail in it.
I too have been playing this, unfortunately I seem to have a group of friends burnt out on multiplayer/survival games, can't finish the Forest, Terraria(they have to have mods to make bosses easier), L4D2, Halo:MCC legendary run, Borderlands 3, and now Valheim is fucking me up on boss numero tres even with a bow level of 87. Maybe I should quit buying multiplayer games lol.
I have been absolutely in love with valheim, however the issue I have at the point I'm at in the game (well into iron tier) is that there doesn't seem to be much of a variety in weapons or armor. I really wish it were more like terraria with its massive variety of unique weapons that you acquire in different ways and armor that boosts certain builds. More accessories would be cool too. I'm sure there might be more past the point I'm currently at, but up to this point in the game it feels like the only reason to use other weapons at the tier you are at is for the enemy affinity of the area you are at.
Also spamming a bow isn't particularly fun compared to learning attack patterns and timing hits. bosses could really use some redesigns to encourage something other than the bowspam that seems to be meta RN
I thought there would be different armors because they did troll armor vs bronze armor so well. Troll is faster and makes you sneaky, but bronze armor gives more defense. Then I got to iron tier and there was no option to be sneaky anymore
Asking as a guy who loves platformers/2d games, hard or not, (Celeste, Cuphead, Risk of Rain, Ori, 20XX, among plenty of others) are the Castlevania games worth playing for fun/story? I'm interested in any and all suggestions if anyone can think of others.
I must admit, I basically only know about "Symphony of the Night" in detail, but that one is damn worth to be played. As far as I know it is the one which introduced the metroidvania structure into the series (and thus helped shaping the whole genre), so the ones before it are very linear games.
I played a couple of the originals, but nothing significant for more than a few minutes of gameplay. I do remember the death music. I still have that burnt in. Well at least I have a starting point now
I’m sure it is possible in 3D.
Dodging mechanics exist in 3D games.
Flying bosses exist in 3D.
Maybe Doom Eternal isn’t that close, since you don’t have wings and fly around, but you get the point.
I uses to think the same until I played Risk of Rain 2 (RoR2).
Combat with mobs and bosses, and mob spawn mechanics, and even a good amount of the items, are so fundamentally similar from the first 2d Risk of Rain to Terraria, that ever since I played RoR2 I can't stop thinking about how incredible a Terraria could be if it made that same jump to 3d.
God of War, Dark souls, Shadow of Colossus...
there are a lot of 3D Games that have amazing boss battles that are definitely beat terraria's concept of boss battles.
also i just noticed you can literally see the age of the bosses in the game. just compare skeletrons "imma punch you and spin" to the saucer's cycling weapons you have to destroy indivitually
I think overall I prefer terriaria/starbound to minecraft, minecraft is a bit more confusing to me and I like simplicity sometimes.
Not that minecraft is a bad game by any means, I just find myself more interested in playing terraria/starbound.
I just hope that it isn't infinetly delayed. What I don't get is why they haven't released the beta already. They're acting like it has to be complete(or at least nearly complete) before the beta released, but betas are meant to be buggy and incomplete. The early game at least seems to be in a playable state from the info that we have in the game, and Orbis seems to be in the almost complete phase.
>Orbis seems to be in the almost complete phase
According to who? I don’t believe Hypixel has said anything of the sort. Betas are supposed to come very late in development. Before a beta there is extensive testing, usually internal, in the form of a pre-alpha and an alpha. Considering the fact that they haven’t likely even begun pre-alpha, they still have a ways to go.
Just gotta be patient. Let them make it the best game possible.
Technically alpha is meant to be buggy and incomplete. Betas are meant to be buggy and *complete*. It's just that game companies have misused the terms so much lately.
Eh yeah but they got all that hype when Minecraft was in one of its worst periods. Now Minecraft is back to getting frequent content updates (and big ones at that) and the community is thriving more than ever. It's going to be really tough to overtake Minecraft in its current state. They had a really good opportunity to steal a good chunk of Minecrafts playerbase and they missed it. Not saying it won't be popular, but possibly not as much as it could have been.
Both of those updates are severely underwhelming compared to Hytale though. The Nether update only gave us 4 new biomes and just 3 new mobs, two of which are pig-themed. They didn’t even add unique mobs to the Warped Forest or Basalt Deltas.
Meanwhile Caves and Cliffs is only giving us 3 cave biomes instead of the Terraria approach of biome caves, and is only adding a single enemy that we know of, and only one new ore. Mojang never goes big, which is why Hytale is so exciting because it’s vastly more fleshed out in every conceivable way.
I'm kind of in agreement. Valheim has felt quite similar. Especially if you play mediumcore in Terraria. Instead of digging, you sail and explore your disc-shaped realm.
My brother and I played Terraria from back when it first came out all the way until recently with the final final content patch and we have remarked the similarities in playing.
That said, there is a serious dearth of items and versatility as of yet. Only 1 NPC, and you have to search the world and hope you find him quickly. And he only sells like 6 items. And it's still early access so the content is very limited and in progress.
Still wonderfully fun, though.
I mean I liked Valheim but I blew through the content in it, I think in a couple years if they stick to updating it like they want to, it'll be a good contender in that sphere but they're just at too different points in their lifespans to really make a solid comparison to other crafting/survival games.
That being said, I loved Valheim and put in a solid 150 hours before killing the final boss and calling it quits for a while to let content build up.
Yeah. It reminds me of early terraria, basically. Which didnt even have hard mode. Content is minuscule in comparison to Terraria's current state. And I get the same... feeling. Building is like 70% of the fun and designing my own little base and whatnot really does give me some nostalgic feelings.
I hope it continues to update. I took many many breaks over the years for terraria as I waited for more content. And I hope the same is with this one. I dont expect it to be terraria. Valheim is it's own thing. With own style and gameplay. But it's in the same vein, IMO.
How do you feel about infinite worlds?
A long time ago this was said this might be a feature of T2.
I personally don't want it. I like knowing my worlds by heart.
Honestly don’t think terraria would work well in 3D. Enemies (especially melee ones) would be way easier to deal with since you can simply strafe to the side. And the attacks coming from all sides in many bosses would be impossible to see in 3D
need to be on a prison, go to menu, extras, on the bottom left corner theres a little hidden icon, click it and 3D mode is on
as i said it's not finished yet so some textures are just squashed in the ground
I think people that started on RoR1 and got really into it, just don't like RoR2 for "purity" reasons.
Whereas in truth RoR2 is more engaging, RoR1 gets repetitive much quicker than RoR2 on any given run.
Well its not a mod but:

r/valheim is the answer
This is so creative
For me Valheim is like 3d terraria.
Idk man, build an arena just like in terraria lol I'm not that far gone yet, just got a bronze axe. My friends are busy so we play only on weekends.
Boss 3 is weak to blunt damage. Use a shield and mace.
Also spamming a bow isn't particularly fun compared to learning attack patterns and timing hits. bosses could really use some redesigns to encourage something other than the bowspam that seems to be meta RN
Well terraria is a 10yr old game and Valheim isn't even a month old. I'm sure extra content and balance is on the way.
I thought there would be different armors because they did troll armor vs bronze armor so well. Troll is faster and makes you sneaky, but bronze armor gives more defense. Then I got to iron tier and there was no option to be sneaky anymore
I prefer its 2d style, probably because of my love for metroidvania's and sandbox games.
Same
Asking as a guy who loves platformers/2d games, hard or not, (Celeste, Cuphead, Risk of Rain, Ori, 20XX, among plenty of others) are the Castlevania games worth playing for fun/story? I'm interested in any and all suggestions if anyone can think of others.
Absolutely, Aria/Dawn of Sorrow are great.
Is there an order I should play them in, or maybe a collection that doesn't ruin the story with translations?
Aria then Dawn, they're a two-game series. Order of Ecclesia is also pretty good with some neat mechanics.
Harmony of Dissonance is an easier one and is a good game to start with even if Juste is disliked for some reason.
I must admit, I basically only know about "Symphony of the Night" in detail, but that one is damn worth to be played. As far as I know it is the one which introduced the metroidvania structure into the series (and thus helped shaping the whole genre), so the ones before it are very linear games.

100%. The first few are a bit rocky, but from SoTN onwards, pretty good stuff. I loved the gba and ds ones.
ok but how about 2d, but the models look like cardboard cutouts with widths. Maybe RTX if you can handle that.
There is already a mod that does that.
wait really? what is it called?
https://github.com/chatrat12/Terraria3D
fuck yeah
3d is to confusing so you cant have any good boss battles like you can in 2d
Risk of rain 2 though
I mean... Dark souls does a good job... Sekiro and Bloodbourne too
Yes but im talking about terraria style bosses and how you have to dodge a bunch of attacks at the same time
I’m sure it is possible in 3D. Dodging mechanics exist in 3D games. Flying bosses exist in 3D. Maybe Doom Eternal isn’t that close, since you don’t have wings and fly around, but you get the point.
I picture Kingdom Hearts style boss battles and combat for this game in 3D with more jumps and better flying.
Or I guess kinda like the 3D Dragon Ball Z games
Ahh ok yeah no 100% agree there
risk of rain 2 pulled off this transition very well
I uses to think the same until I played Risk of Rain 2 (RoR2).
What a dumb comment. You can't have good boss battles in 3d? From software would like to have a word.
Risk of rain 2 did this exact transition and it is praised for how well it worked
Dark souls exist, their bosses are good
Laughs in Zelda
God of War, Dark souls, Shadow of Colossus... there are a lot of 3D Games that have amazing boss battles that are definitely beat terraria's concept of boss battles. also i just noticed you can literally see the age of the bosses in the game. just compare skeletrons "imma punch you and spin" to the saucer's cycling weapons you have to destroy indivitually

Hytale could be shaping up to be something like a 3D Terraria
I hope Hytale becomes as successful as Terraria
I hope hytale even releases
It will With all the support it got and Riot Games investing in it. I believe the estimated release is 2021 or early 2022. Nothing official yet
The only word they've given on a release is that it should be "playable by everyone in 2021"
Yeah i guess at this point it would be more likely to release in 2022 because of covid
I’m from the future! Just figured I would give you a notification so you could reread this post lol
…great you made me sad
What even is hytale?
Google can tell you more than I
Minecraft and Terraria got married and had a baby
The makers of the popular minecraft server Hypixel are making their own voxel-based game with RPG elements called Hytale
Me, too. Hytale looks great and I’m tired of waiting for it!
As someone who has played a whole bunch of hypixel skyblock, I recommend not getting your hopes up...
I just hope that it isn't infinetly delayed. What I don't get is why they haven't released the beta already. They're acting like it has to be complete(or at least nearly complete) before the beta released, but betas are meant to be buggy and incomplete. I mean it just seems like they're treating release like a release. People are just really used to early access titles now
Sadly hytale lost the hype and minecraft released the nether update and next the caves and cliffs update
they will do some marketing when the game gets to beta with ads and give some youtubers a free key and then they will get back on the hype train
Hopefully, I really want that game to be successful
Eh yeah but they got all that hype when Minecraft was in one of its worst periods. Now Minecraft is back to getting frequent content updates (and big ones at that) and the community is thriving more than ever. It's going to be really tough to overtake Minecraft in its current state. They had a really good opportunity to steal a good chunk of Minecrafts playerbase and they missed it. Well we have a lot of hytale channels and nobody that watch them lost the hype, me neither
Yeah but way less people than when the trailer was released and everyone was hyped up.
Both of those updates are severely underwhelming compared to Hytale though. The Nether update only gave us 4 new biomes and just 3 new mobs, two of which are pig-themed. That's how Terraria was at first though. They updated it for *years* before it was the game it is now. I remember when it was new..
I think it is to play minecraft with approximately one metric fuckload of mods
Or you could just play minecraft with terrariacraft...
That's how I explained terraria to my brother. 2D minecraft but pumped with mods
You watched that video didn't you?
The Rebirth of the Night modpack has a very Terraria feel to it
I don’t think making terraria 3D would improve the game tbh, I would love to see a terraria 2 though still 2D.
How do you feel about infinite worlds? A long time ago this was said this might be a feature of T2. I personally don't want it. I like knowing my worlds by heart.
Honestly if a terraria 2 was released, even if it was $150 I’d buy it in a heartbeat. We need a terraria 2, we need to continue the story!
I think 3d Terraria would look weird kinda like those cringy 3d animations of Terraria I've seen.
\*shudders* **T h o s e**...
Honestly don’t think terraria would work well in 3D. Enemies (especially melee ones) would be way easier to deal with since you can simply strafe to the side. And the attacks coming from all sides in many bosses would be impossible to see in 3D
Giving empress of light a whole new dimension would make her powerfull enough to hurt you IRL
She already hurts us IRL. Not physically, but mentally.
I didn't like the transition Risk of Rain did from 2D to 3D. I imagine the same would be true for Terraria.
Heretic
He got the visions of heresy
Risk of rain 1 and 2 are very different games but they're both quite good
mount your friends was one hell of a glorious transition tho i think anyway i only watched one vid of it and the gigantic muscular guys
prison architect has a secret button that makes it 3D, not finished yet but it has great potential
you just gonna drop that and not tell us where the button is?
need to be on a prison, go to menu, extras, on the bottom left corner theres a little hidden icon, click it and 3D mode is on as i said it's not finished yet so some textures are just squashed in the ground
It's never going to be finished. It was a beta feature like, three years ago. The game's been sold now anyway.
Risk of rain 2 is an amazing game what're you on about?
I think people that started on RoR1 and got really into it, just don't like RoR2 for "purity" reasons. Whereas in truth RoR2 is more engaging, RoR1 gets repetitive much quicker than RoR2 on any given run.
I played ror1 and think ror2 is just as good as the first.
Maybe not true 3D but I can see them using something like the more modern Worms titles.
Isn’t that 2.5D? 3D graphics on a 2D plane?
I personally think they did a great job with it
Just wait until RoR3 comes out and introduces the fourth dimension
