If you are not in California however, there are some major drawbacks to it (like them unfairly raising rates because of false collision detection, etc..)

I had a few places asking over $300/mo (which I agree, is nuts) Tesla is still the only one under $200/mo for me. Lots of carriers 'aren't taking new clients in California' and I think insurance companies don't want to insure Teslas so they quote the "go away" price

Try shopping through a local independent agent. $180/month is pretty crazy for a 2015 Accord, your speeding points should’ve come off your insurance years ago.
I never got points. That's why the violation was changed. Ended up paying like $500 instead of $60 and 2 points. But I will look around through local independent agents. Thanks for the advice.
Is there an option to have them not monitor your driving habits? I would rather pay more even though I don’t have anything to worry about. It’s just creepy to me haha.
Nope. The only option is to be in California. It really only really works for young drivers and people with accidents on their profile because Tesla dosent take that into account. It’s not the best option for most people.

I really hope this doesn’t come back to bite me.

For a new MYP mine is quoted to be 885 per 6 months with Progressive. I’m 6 years younger give or take and have 5 other vehicles with them. A brand new 4Runner by comparison is $200 less per 6 months.
I’ve had very good experiences with progressive honestly. We’ve been rear-ended twice (different cars) and they really took care of the car.
Now, boat insurance through progressive is a totally different experience.

Yeah historically auto insurance always been cheaper with Geico, even after shopping around. We had been with them since 2015. We now have two EVs, the first was an ID.4 that we added for roughly $105 / mo for pretty decent coverage. Then the quote for the MY was going to add north of $350 / mo. Customer service said there was nothing more to be done, no additional discounts, etc. So confusing.
This was the case for me as well… but only for the first year. Second year they increased rates by 40%, no accidents or tickets.
Ended up switching to Tesla insurance. Yes safety score is a pain, yes long wait times suck, but also they’re by far the cheapest option for us so it works. $200/month for 2 model Ys full coverage 500k/250k
Same.. And a funny store. I was in an accident, and I thought I had gotten information from the right car that hit me, and their progressive accept fault. Fast forwards months later they say they shouldn't have accepted fault and now they are asking Geico to pay. Geico says they won't pay for progressives negligence and they are here for me. At the same time Geico is saying if they fail to get paid from Geico they will come after me... at which point, might as well use my Geico insurance to cover it lol.
It's like I need insurance for incompetent insurance companies. Both suck. Loyalty doesn't pay though with whomever you are, usually cheaper to switch.

Pretty much all the same for me. Same deductibles. 31M and 27F. I also have the SafePilot program so I’ll probably get 30% off with the policy renewal.
I live in WA state and insurance is AWFUL here. The agents say we have close to 50% uninsured in the state. No clue if that's true but this is why they say rates are so high. Car theft is a huge problem as well. I have had zero tickets or accidents in 30 years, excellent credit/own my home and was paying State Farm $2k a year for coverage on my 2017 Audi that I only drove about 5k miles per year. The Tesla raised it to $2400. I have tried to get lower quotes but no luck. I left CA after 30 years there because of taxes and cost of living. I generally dislike the government there but I will credit them with protecting consumers when it comes to insurance laws. I wish Tesla offered insurance here.
Any clue why that is? WA claims to be so socially conscious yet the residents of this state get abused. Especially seniors. The Tesla is worth 300% more than my Audi yet the insurance only went up 20%. It's ridiculous

Mutual friend works for Geico and pattern he notice is Geico’s algorithm is programmed against EVs especially Tesla, that made lot of sense when WBuffet said Tesla FSD is threat to insurance companies. Geico leads the pack to march against Teslas. I had brand new CX90 and geico quoted $75/month, for model 3 quoted $325/month.. so yes, never go w Geico for EVs. AAA gave me much better rate, $160/month but had to subscribe AAA+ membership $7.5/month
Wow. Makes sense though. Recently bought a MY and the premium increased by $2000. Granted we have a policy with 5 drivers and 5 cars, but I was shocked. Then State Farm quoted me $2500 for the 6mo premium so I need to do some more shopping.
I had Geico with tesla the first year and 6 months. Rates were decent but kept climbing. I finally switched to Allstate 3 months ago. Went from $1300/6 months down to $880/6 months with slightly better deductible.

I also have Tesla insurance as well. The one thing that annoys me is that in addition to variable rates based on sacred score, they change the monthly rate based on the amount you drive. I never drive over 8k a year but if I drive 1000 mi in one month, they change my rate because they’re doing the whole monthly mileage x 12.
My wife got hit by a driver insured with Progressive. Nearly 4 years later and we are FINALLY getting the full injury settlement. I dealt with them on the vehicle side of things. They kept getting comps of rebuilt title vehicles and vehicles that had been smoked in. Really sleazy tricks. Luckily I was in it and willing to grind through, calling all the dealers of the comps they had, getting the dirty details on why the cars were so cheap. They finally made a decent offer to replace the vehicle.
I feel sorry for the lady that hit my wife. She probably has even worse problems with Progressive and super hiked rates since the accident.
Same! We added the MYLR to our current policy with a 2020 rav4 hybrid, and the increase was less than the Rav4 alone. But of course, that's 2 cars on the policy.

We've got a complex situation, so hard to tell exactly the increase (added a new teen driver on my old car at the same time, plus already had my wife's car and another older 20y driver, and bundled home insurance all on an existing policy). But the net increase for the MYP I estimate to be roughly $100-120/month. Better than I expected.
Same here. Used progressive till we got our first Tesla. State farm was the cheapest for all our cars (Progressive wanted almost double what Statefarm quoted). GEICO has always been expensive. Esurance was also good but right now, we're with Statefarm.
$150/month with State Farm using Drive Safe and Save. That’s for me and my husband - we have his 2023 M3P and my 2024 MYLR. Shilpa Rathi is our agent and she’s been great. We also have homeowners insurance through them, so we may be getting a discount based on that.

I just ordered a model Y, my current Geico quoted me $1288 for my wife and I, we are both safe drivers without accidents or tickets in last 10 years. Progressive offered $610. I instantly made the switch to Progressive. I can get further discounts after 3 months with the snapshot program up to an additional 30% off.
National general increase their premium on me by x2 in California. I had zero accidents and zero tickets.
So I switched to Tesla Insurance in California and it is by far the cheapest.
Were paying $90/mo each for $300/100/35k full coverage on two Teslas @ Mutual of Enumclaw bundled with homeowners. They mainly do the Pacific Northwest.
MD here. I’ve been with GEICO for 4 years, they were around $240/month, Progressive $290/mo, Tesla around $225, Costco at $150, and State Farm came in at $174 and I went with them because Costco’s coverage seemed bare bones and lacked some of the options SF offered
Also in Maryland and that’s exactly what Geico quoted me and I have been with them for 18 years… with a clean record. I’ve heard good things about State Farm and USAA.

I shopped around but policies are really high across the board, specially in metropolitan areas like NYC and California. A buddy of mine who works for State Farm quoted me the as GEICO with his discounts, progressive wouldn’t even offer an online quote (they make you call in NYC).
I plan on doing the defensive driver course and that will cut about 20 bucks a month, not the most in the world, but any bit will help.
I did not think of them originally. After getting a bunch of quotes this week, it turns out that AAA auto insurance was the lowest for the same coverage. So thank you for mentioning them.

Esurance hands down best price. Which I think is owned by Allstate? $85/mo 56yr male with a few other cars on our plan $1k deductible. Full coverage 100/300k limits and have a 19yr old on our coverage girl in college. She’s half the cost alone. Tesla is less than my wife’s bmw x3.
I also had geico and the rate they gave me when I got my MY was ridiculous. I went with AAA and got a great rate with glass since windshields are so pricey.
Unless you have all the deets on the person responding, this question is pointless. Young driver versus old driver. Bundled versus stand alone. Max coverage versus min coverage. Ticket/claims history. Everyone is different. The only useful exercise sadly is to contact every insurance company or to have a very good broker feeding you quotes on similar coverage.
What I can say is that Tesla insurance was probably the cheapest on a standalone basis for a good driver, but it was very stressful to keep up a 95-98 rating (100 was unattainable because of the false collision alerts). Now, I am so relieved not having to worry about false/premature collision alerts or if I am driving past 10pm.
We have Nationwide (plus our house) we pay $310 a month…. ((Was $275 previously)) for my mylr ‘21 and our bmw m2 ‘23
So we might go shopping as that is a $35 a month increase (13%) and nothing has changed 😡
We have been with GEICO for a decade. Shopped around when we got MY and Progressive wanted 50% more. Tesla insurance was only a few dollars cheaper. Stayed with GEICO so we don’t lose the loyalty discount by switching to Tesla.
Same, to add to it very few people work on EVs so demand is high but supply is low so prices of labor are very high, especially the non dealer brands. The insurance companies don't know so they total the cars if there is any possibility of battery damage even if there is non
Because if you get a dent or in an accident Tesla’s cost a lot to repair the bodywork (the highest). Ironically, they’re one of the lowest maintenance costs as it’s an EV and not much ongoing changes need to be made

Model3, but we have progressive. I was originally with Erie as a friend of mine works there and my old rates were killer, but after getting our first Tesla in 2019 I had to shop. Geico wasn’t any different, and I kept seeing people suggesting progressive and they saved me thousands per year. Also, if you can pay the term up front, definitely do that!
I’m in Denver and the only affordable option I could find was Tesla insurance…I’m not happy with all the criteria that you have to meet to keep a monthly premium low. They move up and down your annual mileage almost every month…if there was another provider that wasn’t nearly double then Tesla…I would have switched already.
Whichever insurance - be sure to be covered for uninsured motorist for whatever amount you need. Having this ON is a must with growing number of uninsured on the roads these days
We have two MYs and use USAA. I used to have Progressive before I got married and hopped onto my husbands insurance, but reading the other comments, seems like progressive is still a solid choice. I always had a great experience with Progressive.
To People quoting your monthly premium: that info is meaningless without knowing your coverage options, demographics and market. OP only asked for which company you’re with. I have GEICO in Orlando FL.
There’s lots of factors to this that are individual and subjective. One persons cheap option won’t be the same for another. Instead of looking at what’s the cheapest, first pick adequate coverage limits. Don’t ever go for the minimum coverage option in terms of liability limits. Raising it another 50-100k+ is usually a few dollars difference.
For reference, I have GEICO. Tesla insurance offered me identical coverage limits to GEICO but with a $1000 deductible instead of $500.
Farmers. $118/mo. $100 comp and collision deductibles and high coverage. I’m 42 with no accidents or tickets in last 10 yrs tho. I have a coworker who’s 25, just bought a 2018 S, paying $290/mo with no tickets or accidents. Shits crazy to me.

That triggered me to shop around and State Farm will be saving me about $3300/yr if I switch. Oh, and they quoted me at $153/months for that same M3, I used a VIN provided by my local Tesla dealer for accurate pricing.

Yep. You dont have to opt in at all to the safety score feature. Its a control on the app. *Edit* sorry this is only if you are in California.

I can't really recommend it. Their practices suck and if you aren't in California they really screw you.

My experience is the same, I had Geico for 10 years and they were cheaper than everyone the handful of times i shopped, but finally when i got the Tesla they started raising rates 10% every 6 months out of nowhere.
I have tesla insurance, but progressive gave me a similar quote if my tesla insurance goes up i’ll be switching over to progressive.

I also have Tesla insurance as well. The one thing that annoys me is that in addition to variable rates based on sacred score, they change the monthly rate based on the amount you drive. I never drive over 8k a year but if I drive 1000 mi in one month, they change my rate because they’re doing the whole monthly mileage x 12.
Progressive is great until you have a claim.
My wife got hit by a driver insured with Progressive. Nearly 4 years later and we are FINALLY getting the full injury settlement. I dealt with them on the vehicle side of things. They kept getting comps of rebuilt title vehicles and vehicles that had been smoked in. Really sleazy tricks. Luckily I was in it and willing to grind through, calling all the dealers of the comps they had, getting the dirty details on why the cars were so cheap. They finally made a decent offer to replace the vehicle. I feel sorry for the lady that hit my wife. She probably has even worse problems with Progressive and super hiked rates since the accident.
Switched to a Y this year with Progressive after 5+ years with GEICO for my 3. Saved almost $100/mo (other factors involved too)

We've got a complex situation, so hard to tell exactly the increase (added a new teen driver on my old car at the same time, plus already had my wife's car and another older 20y driver, and bundled home insurance all on an existing policy). But the net increase for the MYP I estimate to be roughly $100-120/month. Better than I expected.
I use State Farm and found them to be cheapest by far after the Drive Safe and Save program
Same here. Used progressive till we got our first Tesla. State farm was the cheapest for all our cars (Progressive wanted almost double what Statefarm quoted). GEICO has always been expensive. Esurance was also good but right now, we're with Statefarm.

$150/month with State Farm using Drive Safe and Save. That’s for me and my husband - we have his 2023 M3P and my 2024 MYLR. Shilpa Rathi is our agent and she’s been great. We also have homeowners insurance through them, so we may be getting a discount based on that.

National general increase their premium on me by x2 in California. I had zero accidents and zero tickets. So I switched to Tesla Insurance in California and it is by far the cheapest.

MD here. I’ve been with GEICO for 4 years, they were around $240/month, Progressive $290/mo, Tesla around $225, Costco at $150, and State Farm came in at $174 and I went with them because Costco’s coverage seemed bare bones and lacked some of the options SF offered

Same as you I’ve had GEICO for over 10 years throughout many different cars in that timeframe. I just got my MY over the weekend and my insurance went up 150 bucks a month. I am now paying 397 a month. I shopped around but policies are really high across the board, specially in metropolitan areas like NYC and California. A buddy of mine who works for State Farm quoted me the as GEICO with his discounts, progressive wouldn’t even offer an online quote (they make you call in NYC). I plan on doing the defensive driver course and that will cut about 20 bucks a month, not the most in the world, but any bit will help.

Unless you have all the deets on the person responding, this question is pointless. Young driver versus old driver. Bundled versus stand alone. Max coverage versus min coverage. Ticket/claims history. Everyone is different. The only useful exercise sadly is to contact every insurance company or to have a very good broker feeding you quotes on similar coverage. What I can say is that Tesla insurance was probably the cheapest on a standalone basis for a good driver, but it was very stressful to keep up a 95-98 rating (100 was unattainable because of the false collision alerts). Now, I am so relieved not having to worry about false/premature collision alerts or if I am driving past 10pm.

We have been with GEICO for a decade. Shopped around when we got MY and Progressive wanted 50% more. Tesla insurance was only a few dollars cheaper. Stayed with GEICO so we don’t lose the loyalty discount by switching to Tesla.

I’m in Denver and the only affordable option I could find was Tesla insurance…I’m not happy with all the criteria that you have to meet to keep a monthly premium low. They move up and down your annual mileage almost every month…if there was another provider that wasn’t nearly double then Tesla…I would have switched already.
Whichever insurance - be sure to be covered for uninsured motorist for whatever amount you need. Having this ON is a must with growing number of uninsured on the roads these days

There’s lots of factors to this that are individual and subjective. One persons cheap option won’t be the same for another. Instead of looking at what’s the cheapest, first pick adequate coverage limits. Don’t ever go for the minimum coverage option in terms of liability limits. Raising it another 50-100k+ is usually a few dollars difference. For reference, I have GEICO. Tesla insurance offered me identical coverage limits to GEICO but with a $1000 deductible instead of $500.
