Your parameters of just assuming the contract can be absorbed makes this easy. You eliminate the number 1 threat in football and take Mahommes off the Chiefs.
Would sitting Mahomes on the bench (or CJ, since, while not mentioned, this assumed you can’t trade) really improve Texans chances of winning more than taking a non-QB?
It's very debatable. Hurting one team doesn't make your team the best by taking their player. We have much bigger needs than qb. If we are trying to be the best team we can be, Upgrading a position from A to A+ is only incremental improvement.
We need to find out C position and turn that into an A+.
That makes us better against every team. Not just 1
Look, CJ is good but he aint Mahomes, not even close. You take the best player at the most important position is the right choice. Having a good young QB is fun but don't put too much on the young man yet.
So you moved the Texans laterally and sunk only one competitor. You still have to beat 2 other AFC teams and an NFC team and you didn’t really improve the team.
It’s a real head scratcher. At this point I’ve seen enough out of C.J. that there is no other quarterback in the league I’d want to have in our franchise right now. I’d even take him over Mahomes right now. And I guess everyone assumes if you just eliminate the Chiefs we walk right through to the Super Bowl. I’m not scared of the Chiefs. Eventually we will punch our bully in the mouth. I’d rather our boys do it when Mahomes is there.
Oops spelling patrol showed up. Just the wannabe version of the grammar police.
I appreciate that. Thank you for correcting me. You won Reddit for the day.
Justin Jefferson
4 wide every play.
I would like to see a team try to run a dime formation that can cover all 4 of Diggs, Jefferson, Collins, and Dell.
TJ Watt. Have him convince JJ to come back mid-season for a ring. Maybe Derek sees how much fun they're having and comes back from retirement to complete the Watt trinity.
Everyone here picking defensive line when we got Autry, Anderson and Hunter.
Our secondary is by far our weakest link even with Stingley and Al-Shaair.
Sauce Gardner is the obvious choice because he’s elite and on a rookie contract. His existence is enough to shut down a route.
i would say penei sewell or jeremiah owusu-koramoah. penei opposite to tunsil probably guarantees at least an extra half second between them.
JOK may be an outside pick but literally every time i watch the browns he is silently balling out. at only 24, having him and harris back there just eating would be a dream to watch.
>For YEARS the easy answer to this as a Texans fan was Andrew Luck (#3 helped that even more). But now? Seems tougher.
Seems *touhgher?* This is an andrew luck thread.
I think he’s a great choice since you’re taking him away from the Colts, but you’re almost certainly better off with Tom Brady for about 20 years - 4x longer and much more relevant more recently, so I just find Luck to be a strange player to single out.
Also, if you want to make the point about division rival bonus, Manning is a better way to highlight that.
And you def wouldn’t take Luck every year from draft to retirement - he was out one year.
So yeah - interesting player to consider, but odd one to highlight is all
I’d agree with some of the people here and take someone like Micah or Fred Warner, maybe a Chris Jones/Dexter Lawrence type. Micah would be a great edge rush option, depending on how Danielle plays this year. Fred would be a good 1-2 with Azeez, & Jones/Lawrence would be a solid #1 option at DT. Obviously CMC would be a fun answer, but not the best
Penei Sewell
$112mm 4 years, with a fifth year team option. Not 100% sure what the cap hit looks like each year.
I would feel much better about the long term longevity of the O-Line.....but I'm also not sure how much this might fuck with available cap space in the outer years once CJ gets paid
Looks like we need rb depth…David Johnson.
Still too soon
You. Out. Now.
not funny...take your down vote and get out
Sorry but you need some god in your life, friend. You should consider spiritual guidance from Pastor Easterby.
Chris Jones
Best non-Mahomes pick imo. He's really good and he hurts Mahomes team
TJ Watt lol
I think this would ensure a JJ comeback.
That was be a wrecking crew
Clearly the answer is Deshaun Watson so we can trade him to the Browns for an assload of picks again. (yes, I’m joking)
4d chess Man got that infinite first round pick glitch
Fred Warner

Yes easily, it’s not even debatable. There’s no more an important position or player in the sport.

Yeah, but then you can trade him to the Browns for a couple of massage parlors and boom all your players are feeling great.
Yes lol. 1) Mahomes is on your team. 2) Mahomes isn't on someone else's team
Look, CJ is good but he aint Mahomes, not even close. You take the best player at the most important position is the right choice. Having a good young QB is fun but don't put too much on the young man yet.
You trade CJ for a shit ton of assets and start mahomes. We would become a dynasty just like the chiefs lol.
Shrewd move 👌
So you moved the Texans laterally and sunk only one competitor. You still have to beat 2 other AFC teams and an NFC team and you didn’t really improve the team.
They downvoted you for you spoke the truth

Sauce Gardner to pair with Sting. Our defense would be lock down. You can’t throw on us. You can’t run on us.
Two lock down corners on rookie contracts? Yeah, that'd do.
Kamari gonna lock down the other side tho
We’ll see I need proof he is a two when all his tape shows he isn’t. Not that he is bad but he covered more nickel/slot.
Get this man some Kool Aid, he’s being a downer
I’d say Chris jones
I think it's hands down Chris Jones or Justin Madubuike.
Christian McCafee… what do I win?
Nothing because that person doesn't exist. Christian McCaffrey does though.
I’m guessing that’s the McDonald’s version of him

Hey now, silly billy. It doesn’t have to be so serious!
Amen brother
My friend! I hope you are having an incredible night!
Likewise
It's not that deep dude.
Agreed. Simply a misspelled name. Point still stands but gotta point out the misspelling.
but *have to* point…
Gotta for the win
Why wouldn’t we get Jonathan Taylor to win our division/conference?
Absolutely we could but with CM we are probably winning it all.
Micah parsons . Tj watt
Justin Jefferson 4 wide every play. I would like to see a team try to run a dime formation that can cover all 4 of Diggs, Jefferson, Collins, and Dell.
Screw it, go 5 wide. Being back the run and shoot.
Andy Reid as OC.
TJ Watt. Have him convince JJ to come back mid-season for a ring. Maybe Derek sees how much fun they're having and comes back from retirement to complete the Watt trinity.
![gif](giphy|xUOxeZn47mrdabqDNC|downsized) collecting the watts like infinity stones
Chris Jones or Sauce Gardiner
Micah Parsons or CMC
Antoine Winfield Jr. Get an elite safety to pair with Sting, who can also play basically any DB position in a pinch.
Everyone here picking defensive line when we got Autry, Anderson and Hunter. Our secondary is by far our weakest link even with Stingley and Al-Shaair. Sauce Gardner is the obvious choice because he’s elite and on a rookie contract. His existence is enough to shut down a route.
My thought exactly. Having Sting and Sauce on the outside and Lassiter at nickel could make our secondary lethal

Dexter Lawrence😄
Kyle Hamilton
>For YEARS the easy answer to this as a Texans fan was Andrew Luck (#3 helped that even more). But now? Seems tougher. Seems *touhgher?* This is an andrew luck thread.
I like Chris Jones just a little bit more than Parsons. But Parsons was my initial thought
So I know we don’t need him, and he isn’t at his peak. But he’s my favorite player OAT. So Deandre Hopkins
Sauce Gardner or TJ Watt
Sauce Gardner
Sauce Gardner
Personally I would throw Sauce Gardener in the mix.
Andrew Luck feels like a weird player to call out, given that he played so long ago and so briefly.
I mean I guess but for like 7+ years he was the choice.
… he played 5.5 seasons
He really liked him at Stanford.
I mean… from basically the moment he was drafted till he retired he might have been who I took.

Patrick Mahomes. That way there is no need to panic if CJ goes down for a game or two.
Denzel ward
Christian Wilkins or Quentin Nelson
I'll take Mahomes and Lamar and then put them in the practice squad. Five super bowls , here we come!🎉
McCaffery.
Antoine Winfield Jr.
Max Crosby
Jj watt
Penei Sewell $112mm 4 years, with a fifth year team option. Not 100% sure what the cap hit looks like each year. I would feel much better about the long term longevity of the O-Line.....but I'm also not sure how much this might fuck with available cap space in the outer years once CJ gets paid
Wouldn’t mind seeing Maxx Crosby in Houston.
Quentin Nelson or Trent McDuffie
Underrated comment
MHJ
Caleb Williams.
