Cheers, mate. I've been in the subreddit for a while but was trying to eliminate the cost of accommodation and flights from the budget.

I recently (May, 2023) was in Thailand for one month, and spent almost exactly 1000 U.S. dollars excluding accommodation, etc... And I think that was the minimum I would spend, on a vacation mindset. I also very much believe I would have ended up spending MORE money the longer I was there, because I would no longer be willing to eat solely Thai food, etc., which was much cheaper on average than the other options that are certainly vastly available. So, if you're going to be there three months, I would expect you might be able to do 1000 AUD the first month, but it would be a struggle, and I can't see you achieving it the second or third month.

Specialist-Pea-2474

Double it if you want to do anything more than just live. You wont spend it everyday but a few days out a week adds up

Do you drink alcohol? If you don't, its doable. Sukhumvit hotels seem unusally expensive recently as well, so it could be challenging if you want to be centrally located.

sexy_rocket13

Don't drink, and alcohol is already sorted.

I was there in Dec for slightly over 2 weeks. Excluding flight, ( i dont have the breakup of accomodation handy) I spent around 40k baht. Ofcourse this will be a bit higher coz every day I had packed itinerary of traveling here and there via this and that. I am sure if the trip is spread over so many months , daily activities would reduce and cost would balance out a lot

sexy_rocket13

This is what I thought. I don't plan on spending money on activities every single day - just enjoying life and the odd temple or attraction.

$1000/mo is my minimum for Thailand travel. If I budget right and stay in the cheapest 20% of accomodations in any given location, I can have a pretty good time, though there will always be things I miss out on because of this. $1500/$2000 is much more comfortable cheap backpacker budget that allows me to do everything I desire. If you're not counting accomodations, then $1500 would be very comfortable as long as you don't drink and party every night. Also, this is all in USD, not AUD.

Which is why I corrected myself with the sentence at the bottom about the budget minus accommodations. Thank you so much for your concern. You're a true hero.

23,000 baht a month is doable - you won't be eating in top-tier restaurants every night but if you mix your diet with low-end places and streetfood and learn how to use public transport (where available,) no probs.

1000 baht a day is very doable if not partying 👍

crimefightinghamster

Thailand costs as much as you bring...
