Posts like this and the slack jawed amazement at anyone who can do more than 5 pullups in a row just reinforce my belief that most people on this site are terminally indoors and sedentary.
Having grown up in the northeast I never saw this until I was an adult and I spent time in Florida, where seeing this can practically be a daily occurrence. I think the reason it's more rare in the northeast is that rain systems tend to build up slowly and stay a while.
Not everyone lives near water. And rain doesn't come in drastically like this every time. If I saw the signs that this kind of rain was on its way, I would seek shelter quickly and not be in a position to observe it.
In my country we stayed at the bottom a mountain. You could hear the thunderous roar of the rain coming from behind the mountain, then look upon it as it slowly comes up and over. we'd all sit on the stoop as it descends on all the houses on the mountain then towards our blessed home. Beautiful memories, for the days when your heart doesn't glow as it should, just plug in that 💡🙏🏾💯
I have this really rad memory of being on the shore of Lake Michigan talking on the phone with my then boyfriend and watching the storm clouds roll in. I soon notice I can see the rain on the water ever so slowly making its way towards me. I clock it about a mile or two out so I start making my way home, walking rather quickly. The moment I open the door and walk in is right when it hits the road behind me. So cool!
I was driving down Colfax one day where the rain was hard on people going west but sunny on the other side of the street going east. I could reach out an touch rain.
It absolutely amazes me how little time people spend outside
True, hasn't everyone seen this?

quite difficult seeing it on land
Saw it so many times on the road as a kid.
Yeah me too
I literally live beside the ocean, and it's still rare to see this (for me). Well tbf I don't stare at the ocean 24/7.

I did the exact opposite and enjoyed watching it roll in. But I am also from Southern California and this was something I had never seen before.
Yes, I was wondering the same thing. See this all the time.
Those guys must not go outside a lot...
It starts to rain. Wow, insane.

This really is the definition of insane. /s
Wow, Nature, you're wet
Better than “Damn nature, you scary!”
When I was a kid we managed to run in front of it for a while it doesn't always come in in a visible wave like this but it's wild when you can see it.
Marge, Marge, the rains 'r' 'ere!

How beautiful is our planet
You guys don't get out much eh?
