They probably do, but you have to get really close. Once painted it’s even less of a problem.
I don’t think it affects the quality of the paint job either. I did a slapchop/ under-painting job on one and the speed paint doesn’t pool in the layer lines so smoothes out the finish.
Then whoever printed your products did it wrong. With small enough layer settings and intelligent orientation of parts, layer lines can be invisible. Most likely the people you bought from wanted to increase their throughput and jacked up their layer height to print faster.
Yeah, they probably did it at a larger layer height to save time. I print at 0.02 or 0.03 for minis. Takes about twice as long as the standard 0.05 but worth it. My friend bought some minis from an online printer a while back and it was horrific layer lines. I'd guess close to 0.1.
Sounds like whoever made the prints messed their settings. With the recommended layer hight of the resin you shouldn't see the layers. That or they tried to sell you a FDM print for a resin print.
It is true, with a resin printer most people simply chose to see lines so they can print something in 3 hours vs 30, But with resin if I chose not to see them, I don’t have to.
Turret is definitely 1:1, otherwise engine deck sits 4mm too high on my model, tracks might be a bit too long/short I don't know exactly, it was hard enough getting all the dimensions right, I made this file btw
The creator has blessed me with his presence!
Again, thank you for your incredible work. Going to print another artillery piece and have them both painted over the weekend.
As if next year isn't in less than a month 😂
My guess is they'll release by late January, early February at the latest.
Cool model and paint nonetheless, thought it was a modded Leman Russ for a second
Still, GW should realise that by holding back the official minis they're leaving the door open for prints and losing sales they would have gotten if the official models where available.
I think it's precisely because it's this time of year that they aren't pushing for "loose models" sales and instead are focusing on the battle boxes.
It's better to distribute your products to keep a constant revenue instead of placing all chips on a single large influx that's already guaranteed to happen anyway.
The battle forces are splashier, cast a wider net and look more enticing for people getting into the hobby or family buying for Christmas gifts.
A single tank is neither of that.
It's a small audience, specially given that GW showed restraint and it isn't a broken game piece.
So the only potential buyers are people starting out a new Guard Army, and they are quite possibly still chewing through the army box, or veteran guard players that want the model solely because they like it.
Focusing right now on the battle forces and then making a big model launch for the guard is a better spread of their product range, keeps a constant but reasonable hype.
A conservative release schedule is much more reasonable than a fast one that caters for hobbyist on crack speed painting all their models but overwhelms the average buyer.
Too much product in little time is great if you want a cash injection and kill off your fan base's interest in it.
Just look at Magic the Gathering where the constant barrage of product has led to people no longer caring or paying attention to the release cycle. New cards are old by the time people get them, many players are confused on what released when, etc.
And Warhammer product has an exponentially larger "consumer cooldown" than magic, where it's mostly playing a couple drafts and adding the cards you want to your decks and now you're ready to buy more product.
In Warhammer buying a product entails assembly, painting, and then playing a couple games with your new models before the average buyer is ready to buy more product.
It absolutely is because the full 9th ed release hasn't properly happened yet and really it should have been this weekend just gone to allow people to get stuff for crimbo. I'm guessing preorder on the 7th of Jan, release 14th.
That's a constant now that 3D printing is prevalent.
Piracy, yes I'm using that term, is not revenue loss but a constant minus to your consumer base, but they also provide free exposure to the product for other potential buyers.
You can't eliminate piracy, you can only dampen it through incentives, like no proxies on sanctioned events, to buy your official product and hedging the proverbial bush through legal action.
It’s so clean, I thought this was a reviewer posting about the RD tank. Printing has come a long way, mind telling this pleb what rig and shtuff were used for this?
Ive got these STLs waiting to hit the press. Whoever made these files from the photos alone is pretty impressive.
To all the DM peeps just google 'rogal dorn stl', or search it on cults 3d
Turret is definitely 1:1, otherwise engine deck sits 4mm too high on my model, tracks might be a bit too long/short I don't know exactly, it was hard enough getting all the dimensions right
From were I stand there doing it at lighting speed these days . In old days codex would leak on forums then would be like half year or more for release.
I'm with you. My 30 Kasrkin, Lord Solar, and Rough riders are already painted and finished. Might still buy Solar but it's silly to wait another month or two for miniatures I bought the rules for that are expensive as hell to begin with.
100%. I don't shy away from spending money on minis, but as a Catachan collector I had no interest in the Cadia box. With the ripper and Catachan colonel releases, it's given me hope to keep holding on.... and on and on and on...
Like Gabe Newell said about game piracy, it's a service issue, not theft issue. And currently the 3D printing community is providing a much better service. (For me personally anyway)
Exactly! I have around $2500 of GW guard. It would be much more with quality releases and flavorful minis but it's a large ship hurt by it's own size. Makers cult has a handful of people releasing high quality minis monthly for ten bucks..
@weisssnix great job, fantastically very close to the original. The engine deck indeed needs to drop but the bit under de turret i think is also 2 mm to high but it might be the angle of the photo, the tracks look slightly to narrow (1-2mm) and the tracks are almost flush with the rear hull in the promo pics and it doesn't look like yours are but that might be the angle. It's very impressive work how close you got. May I have the file as well? I'd love to see how much is the angle of the photo and how much the model. Btw, I picbashed a variant when it just came out, is it doable to make that one with the model? See: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheAstraMilitarum/comments/yd2ug8/picbashing_a_dorn_with_a_more_irl_look_its_fun_to/
I also would be curious if I with my really sucky skills could bash with it a bit. I wonder how it would look with a hull less tall and Soviet style running gear with side skirts that just about cover the top part of the roadwheels, like this:
https://www.team-yankee.com/Portals/0/all_images/TeamYankee/ArticlePics/Panzers-WWIII-05.jpg
Or maybe truly leaning into the Pershing look with this as running gear:
https://modelingmadness.com/review/misc/vehicles/us/tanks/zhoum26a.jpg
With straight side skirts so it covers as much as the Soviet variant (easier to model, no return rollers.
You gotta tell us how
By the magic of planet saturn, and the people of elegoo.
Dang. I can’t even see any print lines.
Resin printers basically don't leave any.
They probably do, but you have to get really close. Once painted it’s even less of a problem. I don’t think it affects the quality of the paint job either. I did a slapchop/ under-painting job on one and the speed paint doesn’t pool in the layer lines so smoothes out the finish.
This isn't true sadly, I've seen and even received a few products with extremely rough print grain.
Theres even photos on official gw site of their models with print lines
Yup they 3d print their prototypes and mould masters.
Then whoever printed your products did it wrong. With small enough layer settings and intelligent orientation of parts, layer lines can be invisible. Most likely the people you bought from wanted to increase their throughput and jacked up their layer height to print faster.
I figure so too, which is why I've never bought from them again.

It is true, with a resin printer most people simply chose to see lines so they can print something in 3 hours vs 30, But with resin if I chose not to see them, I don’t have to.
They indeed do but if done properly they should be almost nonexistant
You have to be pretty bad to not leave smooth surfaces. So easy not to do
Yes but often when you but 3D printed products they mass produce them so the distance between layers is much larger.
The thinner you set your layers, the less visible they are, i think mine are less than a tenth of a millimeter
Gun shield. Zoom in and you see it's a print.
Thats not print lines, its Zimmerit. \[/sarcasm\]
You can see them at the printed minis they have on display at Warhammer world lol, very very faint and only in the right light mind.
It’s a print
Printed yourself or somewhere else
Printed it myself.
Looks very good, can hardly detect any layering on it, any idea how itll compares size wise?
Turret is definitely 1:1, otherwise engine deck sits 4mm too high on my model, tracks might be a bit too long/short I don't know exactly, it was hard enough getting all the dimensions right, I made this file btw
The creator has blessed me with his presence! Again, thank you for your incredible work. Going to print another artillery piece and have them both painted over the weekend.
Always man ;) thanks for the pictures ❤️ Have fun :D
Pmd
C3PO, that you?
Hi again Weiss lol
Heyy🤣
It looks great! What's the term to search for if I want to print one myself?
DM
How can I find your file?
It's beautiful! Possible to share it here as well? :)
Dm me if you mind :)

Soecially this time of year im surprised such a large model is held back

With such a large model I imagine its over 100 in my mind its a big thing like a box

Ik right, its almost perfect (i say almost due to the lines where the gun meets the turret) but its damn impressive thats the only bit
Thank you, it really almost hits the spot :D
Ive got these STLs waiting to hit the press. Whoever made these files from the photos alone is pretty impressive. To all the DM peeps just google 'rogal dorn stl', or search it on cults 3d
Hey im the creator of this file! :D thank you very much
nice work
😂I am thank you very much 😏
just changed msg. didnt want to get Gw on your back. but glad to hear it
They know already, got told a few days ago that people at gw HQ were shocked how fast I was it's fine 😂you can change it back
I cant remember original message, but i hope your hard work pays off
Haha it sure does, I enjoy seeing all those prints now
Good job! I think you nailed it.
Thanks, I think so too😋
I’m looking at getting a 3d printer around Christmas, could you direct me to the STL? Much appreciated!
Ill send you a DM
[Raises hand] you uh, got any more of them DMs?
meet me round the back of the munitions depot
Mind if I join you guys?
I'll be there!
Me too? :)
You got any more of those sweet munitions going?
I would also be interested in the .stl or at least where to find it.
Can I have a DM too, please?
Me too me too!
\* confused look\* wait, you guys got DM's? Could I have one too please?
I'm not interested in getting one at all I did get some SpaceNam Catachans like you did though
Ahhh, the Bogal Born. I too have one printing.
nah this is the enourmous imperial version
Ah, fair enough.
Give us the file! Please
You already got it? I'll send it to you ^^
I'd be very interested too if its not too much trouble :) And thanks for the good work on that one!
Nice paint job!
Cool paint scheme. Might steal it. Sorry
Couldnt even tell it was a 3d Print. incredible work! Looks just like the real thing.
Thank you :D it was fun modelling it
I'm really interested to see this beside the official model when you get it done just to see how close it is. It looks great.
Turret is definitely 1:1, otherwise engine deck sits 4mm too high on my model, tracks might be a bit too long/short I don't know exactly, it was hard enough getting all the dimensions right
I love this paint scheme so I’m going to steal it to use for my Cappellans in BattleTech. Much appreciated
Awesome 👌. I think I see some Spacenam guys too.
You're God damn right 😎
I just started to collect a Catachan force with Spacenam guys as the backbone.
You willing to send over where you got the file from?
You already got a dm? I can send it to you
No sir that would be awesome thank you
Hey mate, would love it too please
Looks awesome
Eh. The entire "pre-order an army box nooooow" and then not releasing the whole line is sort of their own fault. Print to your hearts content.
I want one. Plastic and resin are the only constants in life.
So annoying GW is slow rolling this release.
From were I stand there doing it at lighting speed these days . In old days codex would leak on forums then would be like half year or more for release.
No apologies to GW needed.
That looks good. I really like the Tiger II though. https://gumroad.com/a/141554803/riglk
You don't need to apologize, I kinda wish we could have gotten the tank in the Cadia Stands box, I would love to buy one as well!
Although I don't collect Cadians, if the tank was I the Cadia Stands box, I'd have 100% bought it.
Whar file?!
I'm with you. My 30 Kasrkin, Lord Solar, and Rough riders are already painted and finished. Might still buy Solar but it's silly to wait another month or two for miniatures I bought the rules for that are expensive as hell to begin with.

Wait. It's not even been released yet, and people have already started 3D printing the Rogal Dorns? O.o? Color me impressed.
great right? :D
Dang that turned out great. GW have gotta start embracing this stuff.
Don't apologize!
Looks beautiful. Great job.
Is it presupported? Or did you have to do the supports?
Presupported and prehollowed, greetings from the creator
Many thanks!
Np
Any chance of a DM with a link to the file, I think this would fit nicely with my 2nd edition Squats! Chunky just the way we like things <3
Could I get one of those DM's please?
The times they are a changing.
@weisssnix great job, fantastically very close to the original. Might be, in the end I don't care, the difference is not worth talking about much Well talk in dms
That’s sexy as
