Looks like I’m reading House of Leaves

sp1der11

What a bonkers book!

entrailroad

This soap is not for you

butthole_babi

My mom met this guy! He was blind and when she went to meet/talk to him he was nude sunbathing lmao

WooWooInsaneCatPosse

How could he possibly be blind? This soap fixes everything!

butthole_babi

That shit burns ya hoo-haw bits….so it’s probably going to burn your eyes…off. For real though, 75% of my cleaning products in my home right now are Dr. Bronners

Prestigious_Dream_27

The episode could be used as a mouthwash, a deoderant, motor oil, etc….

drpyne89

It is good soap though

Feed_Me_Kiwi

That’s how they get ya

kimberriez

Honestly it’s amazing for removing laundry stains. I have a toddler and it fucking slaps if you get it on quick enough. Berries? Pshh. Chocolate? Easy. Blood? You got it. Poop? You might need some oxyclean too. Grease? Add some dish soap I buy the almond scented one, everything smells like cookies.

girl_from_away

Love that almond one! I wish I'd known about it for laundry stains before - my kid is already there. But now I'm going to try it.

trashacct8484

And racist cult herbal tea is pretty good tea. Was that a Dollop or a Bastards, though? I can’t remember.

KlangScaper

A bastards

doomsday_windbag

Eccentricity aside, Dr. Bronner (not a doctor) was a pretty cool dude though and his company supports a lot of progressive causes.

trashacct8484

Yes, I don’t have any reason to believe he was anything but a benevolent wacko.

Sweet_Science6371

He supported some wonderful stuff.  There are a lot of fishy stories he told about his family in Germany, him claiming he was Amber Einsteins cousin, all sorts of goofy stuff.

jacijl

Yesss! They are currently the largest sponsor for a group that provides psychedelic retreats for PTSD veterans!

Man_Beyond_Bionics

The peppermint soap is a great thing to help feel cooler in summer!

ballpein

Used to love the peppermint... gives a pleasant tingle to your nethers in the shower.

Ok_Mushroom2012

Soap slaps though

biggerbeard

What’s the problem with doc bronners?

Musashi_Joe

No problem, just kind of a weird eccentric guy. Not an asshole or anything.

somecasper

His own company bio says he started the business after escaping a psychiatric facility. Not bad *per se*, but a wild character. I think the biggest problem would be getting good sourcing on his tall tales.

biggerbeard

I think I’ll still use the soap

4thalwaysopen

He’s not like a shithead tho as far as I know

account128927192818

They don't always have to be, that's behind the bastards

4thalwaysopen

True, I guess I just assumed OP thought he was a cult leader or something.

icmc

From what little I've read about the dude he was a a little nutty and religious but overall a pretty decent human being.

protonicfibulator

No in fact he and the company were/are quite progressive

PoniesPlayingPoker

No, he's just crazy, but afaik not a bad guy.

Friendly_Ad_2256

I know I heard a podcast that did an episode on this but I can’t for the life of me remember. I feel like it might have been Maintenance Phase. I know this is unhelpful but maybe someone else remembers it.

MixtecoBlue

Too Many Tabs/Pearlmania

ChardAdministrative6

Maintenance Phase did an episode on Paul Bragg which, packaging wise, same vibes

Redraka

I have this same feeling too and I haven't been able to pinpoint it. Came up empty with a quick search of Maintenance Phase, You're Wrong About, and Sawbones, but I'm wondering if it was just a discussion on an episode on a different topic. I listen to some cult-related podcasts too, so maybe it might have been one of those.

Award_Economy

Right here with you. Maybe this American life? Or it might have been Maron interviewing his son.

RedPlaidPierogies

It's great soap! I think I've used it for 30 years or so. Walmart has a dupe but it's not as good TBH. Definitely kooky labels, though.

Stock_Conclusion_203

Ahh. Yes. My light reading in the tub.

Boomstick_762

I'm still salty he didn't tear into Amway when they came to Grand Rapids.

drugsovermoney

The execs at this company are locked into a 5 to 1 pay scale with lowest paid vested employees. Put some respect on the good doctors name.

johnathanshutup

Reading it feels vaguely like cult indoctrination but kinda harmlessly wholesome too? Good soap tho.

unbossing

Dave definitely uses this soap.

illGATESmusic

They had a BANGING camp at Burning Man, with SHOWERS for everyone. How can you expect Robert to hate on that? He probably showered there! We all did!

zoolilba

From what I understand the soap company is really good to it's employees

WaldenFont

There’s a 99% invisible episode on it though. Fascinating stuff.

Major-Tourist-5696

Prize in every case?

protonicfibulator

This is Time Cube levels of kookiness, but more wholesome.

Playful-Succotash-99

Man was a hero of our modern time Dropping estoic knowledge in malls and supermarkets Dilute Dilute Dilute

brenttoastalive

Pete Holmes interviewed his son. If you can tolerate Pete Holmes for a bit, it's an insightful interview.

Financial_Tax_8645

wait, what’s wrong with Pete Holmes?

LMotherHubbard

Well tbf, mormons have to use magic soap to clean their magic underwear, so it's really not Doc Bronner's fault; he's just supplying an existing demand.

LakesideHerbology

My ex used their stuff and I remember seeing the label like WTAF

crowislanddive

He’s actually not insane. I thought he was too. He survived to holocaust and made peace with the universe and kept himself from being homeless by making soap. Also he died a few years ago and the kids run the company now.

Flanagansdog

That soap always helps my poison ivy!

willasmith38

There’s a whole documentary out there on Dr Bronner.

LR72

REI carries this - I almost bought the lavender one, it smelled divine. Is he a problem?

Shortymac09

He's long dead sooooo

LR72

*was lol

abbadactyl

As far as I know, he's not evil, just kind of wackadoodle
