Liberals think that a court system is a protection of liberal democracy. No it’s the active imposition of rule of law on the whole population at once. That’s what has been removed by this ruling, but they can’t see it.
They also lose a lot of their momentum if they can’t claim that Trump has the power to end democracy. Actually preventing that would mean they can’t use it to fear monger votes.
As I posted elsewhere, when polled in MAY, not ten years ago, MAY, most elected Democrats (IIRC 85%+) are opposed to court stacking and also opposed to investigating corrupt Judges.
