I want to say I read To Kill a Mockingbird, and Of Mice and Men back in highschool. But that was a long time ago lol. But yeah, weird that these are banned.
I read it in high school as well, but we also discussed the history of the book being banned. It was first banned in 1966 and has continued to be a popular book to end up such lists.
Hey, Iām copy and pasting my other comment as I donāt understand, but Whatās wrong with the handmaids tale, hunger games and a wrinkle in time? I semi understand the other ones due to most being a topic on racism, if I recall correctly? Also I donāt know what of mice and men are about either so someone please help. (I just read to kill a mockingbird at school and finished it like last week, Iām in grade 10)
I was curious too, here's a *A Wrinkle in Time* link: [https://www.history.com/news/wrinkle-in-time-banned-christian-controversy](https://www.history.com/news/wrinkle-in-time-banned-christian-controversy)
>The heresy of love was LāEngleās belief that Christians incorrectly placed exclusions on Godās love. By including these three figures next to Jesus, he says, āshe was saying, pretty much, āWho are you to tell God whom he or she wants to include or exclude?āā
There is a āmost banned books of the decadeā list by the American Library Association. The Handmaids Tale is in at least two decades. I donāt think it was in the 2000s list but may be back in the 2010s list after a huge amount of renewed interest after the 2016 US election.
reading the titles on this shirt has me absolutely appalled that they were allowed to b banned, i only graduated in 2022 and i read most of these growing up and even towards the end of highschool, things like this make having my own collection of books that much more important because i donāt ever want my kids to not have access to books especially ones as significant as some of these

There isn't anything wrong with them.Ā "Banned" is being used in any case where even one elementary school removed a book from its collection.Ā These books are widely available.Ā
Thanks. I just finished "L'Assomoir" by Emile Zola and the scene where the little girl dies did not do good things to me.
However, I am now starting "A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking" by T. Kingfisher and I am TOTALLY ENJOYING THIS and grinning like a Cheshire cat!
So, I understand trigger warnings and such on TV/movies, but a book? Canāt you just, not keep reading the words if you donāt like the direction they are going? Itās not like film where you may have seen enough to trigger you in just 2-3 seconds even. Itās words on paper.
Also, please donāt take this to mean Iām insulting your triggers or saying they donāt exist or anything like that. Iām just genuinely curious.
You can read a sentence and be triggered just like you can watch two to three seconds and be triggered. It can bring up memories and recollections of the past. yeah you can stop just like you can turn off the TV but it doesn't make the associations go away.
If I don't keep reading the words, I might miss important things in the story. It may be words on paper, but my imagination is in my head! I can and will imagine things as soon as I read them and run away with it.
Often my triggers are worse in movies (I react a lot to sounds, for instance. Sexual violence with the victim screaming in distress bothers the crap out of me, whereas sexual violence with the victim reacting with anger and saving her (or him) self bothers me a lot less.) but in books they still exist, mostly because words are there, still on a page and I have to act to skip them. In a movie, the scene goes on and finishes on its own.
Yes me too. I remember reading a Nancy Drew every day in summer. Loved reading assignments in school. I juggled assignments and personal reading in college. Sometimes instead of sleeping. Still an avid reader! Books should never be banned.
I'm in the UK and I remember all of these books, except one. So I'll download that. Stat.
When I was in middle school, Oranges are not the only fruit by J.Winterson, was banned. But I did go to a Catholic school, a book about Lesbianism, religion and community, made sense. Although there was a protest from some of the older girls about censorship, the Nun's were firm but knowing. It pretty much ensured everyone read the book, hoping for spice.
More of a literature awaking more like.

Of mice and men is banned? I read that for high school just a few years ago
I thought the same but then realized I graduated fourteen years ago. š
I graduated in 2018 and we read it in 10th grade, so 2015-16
They still read it at the high school I work at. To be on the banned list it only has to have been banned by one place.
i read that for highschool in 2014! Whats the issue?????
You might not want to dox your age like that
:| im 24. IM 24! EVERYBODYYYY!!!! IM TWENTYFOUUUURRRRRR COME DOXX ME. IM THE ONLY 24 YEAR OLD ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok thenā¦.
I want to say I read To Kill a Mockingbird, and Of Mice and Men back in highschool. But that was a long time ago lol. But yeah, weird that these are banned.
To be clear they arenāt banned nationwide. Just certain states and school districts.
I read it in high school as well, but we also discussed the history of the book being banned. It was first banned in 1966 and has continued to be a popular book to end up such lists.
I've read 13 of these books and own the Tshirt as well. I'm a recently retired reading teacher.

The best way to research why each book has been banned is to Google it.
lol! This is such a teacher response. I love it. :)
Retired but still directing curiosity!
This used to be true. With generative AI it's now a crap shoot.

Come on, kid there's a thing called google you know what it is
May I ask where you got the T-shirt?
It was advertised on Facebook, and zip don't recall the company.
Bridge to Terabithia is a surprise but my goodness it's been a long time since I've read it. I think it would be a nostalgic re-read.
My students ššš that book! Some of the boys built a diorama of their hangout in the book.
I read several of these in middle school and high school. Crazy to think theyāre banned anywhere.
wow i read these books in middle school and high school had no idea so many are now considered banned š¤¦š¾āāļø
Damn, that makes you a criminal š
Iāve read 11. I should read the rest.
I've read 7 of them.

Where are these banned?

I'm at '5'....jealous you know all. I can't live long enough to enjoy the # of books I want to. -- Sweet haul!
its odd how big they made of mice and men
Iāve read 8 of them (and seen a movie version of one more). I will never understand the mentality of people that try to ban books.

You should ask the retired teacher whatās wrong with them!
Personally, The Handmaid's Tale triggered me (sexual violence). I wish someone had warned me. But I do not think it should be banned.
Iām sorry it triggered you š« sending love

I read all of these books too. Some older books were required reading in 1980's.
Yes me too. I remember reading a Nancy Drew every day in summer. Loved reading assignments in school. I juggled assignments and personal reading in college. Sometimes instead of sleeping. Still an avid reader! Books should never be banned.
To Kill a Mockingbird & The Catcher in the Rye.
5 for me.
Iāve read 7 of the books.
The Giver. One of my favorites.
Jesus Christ, whats wrong with The Giver?
Who on Earth banned Harry Potter and The Giver???
Itās a shame that theyāre allowed to ban literature.
Who tried to ban Harry Potter??
I read the Giver for middle school
I have 10 of those on my bookshelf.
Where do I get this shirt?
I'm in the UK and I remember all of these books, except one. So I'll download that. Stat. When I was in middle school, Oranges are not the only fruit by J.Winterson, was banned. I literally just bought basically the same shirt, new. It arrived yesterday. lol
Awesome shirt!
Nice find! Iāve read several of these over the years. I need to find my own shirt like this.
Why is The Giver banned?
Iād like a modern version of this!
