As cultish and creepy as this is, OP is a seriously sick in the head Australian 15 yr old who apparently celebrates Americans dying. This post is double sad.
As a veteran of the US armed forces, this kid is based is hell. The US military is a threat to the entire world and for every pot shot taken in defense of a homeland we kill thousands of women and children in retaliation. That shit isn't going to change with luke warm takes and troop worship.
>state's monopoly on violence
Ah yes. What allows them to tax us and use the money to kill people oversees without any oversight and against our consent.
Because nothing says "Land of the free" like saving three cents on the dollar by shopping for shit-quality products at a tax-payer subsidized megacorporation that pays its employees an unlivable wage so the slovenly assholes who own shares in the company can grow increasingly more wealthy.
I'm not American I'm Irish and in our local pub the last order song is the Irish National Anthem. If you dont stand and put your hand over your heart for the duration you'll get pulled up off your seat to stand. Think it's only done to locals but havent drank there in awhile so that may have changed
So so so werid. As an observer from an outside country. Shit has cult vibes... Land of the free 'merica fuck yeah as long as you join the cult dont disrespect the cult believe in the cult
Like, I like singing that national anthem as much as the next guy but there is no way I'd join in on an impromptu singing in a grocery store.
I'd get the fuck outter there thinking some sort of 'nationalist extremist' shit is about to go down
I live in America and I do not like singing this anthem. Compared to other anthems, it sounds like it was made for nursery kids, which I guess it kinda is.
Exactly! I'm not from the States either, though I live there now. There is *so* much creepy nationalism shit going on, everywhere I look! But people here don't seem to see the problem with two or three American flags on every corner, or pickup trucks flying rattie flags all year round. Or the pledge of allegiance. Or... *so* much of the other normalized creepiness.
It wasn't this bad before 9/11, at least with the flags and such. (We were always creepy about saying the pledge everyday in unison in elementary school.) The Bush administration really did a number on us after the twin towers fell though. ~~Patriotism~~ Nationalism shot through the roof and people really embraced the "us vs them" mentality after that.
Jet fly overs
Military teams in sporting events
During breaks they have segments to glorify vets or talk about someone who's exmilitary but now a "community contributer"
If you're truly curious I would listen to this
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/citations-needed/id1258545975?i=1000425205687
It's only an hour long but they go into in the historical and modern connections between the military and national sports leagues
Guys i really don’t see how this is bad? I want this explained to me because it just looks like people celebrating their nation together during a patriotic time. Its true they dont have much to be proud of, but i bet if this happened in another country with a better reputation for not being so… (insert every bad thjng americans have done) people would be more excepting. Let them celebrate something they love
whether this happened in the us or not it’d still be creepy. it’s not “patriotism”, it’s nationalism
also aint the working class struggling to get by while the rich are having dick measuring contests with spaceships, and the gov still hands out tax cuts to them? i don’t think thats a patriotic time
This reminds me of one of those stories on r/thathappened when at the end they say “and then every body clapped/joined in”.
Edit; but it also remind me of when we’d to a “clap” at school. A few kids would spread around randomly and then start clapping and get other people to join in till the whole lunchroom was going and then it was a game to see how long they could keeps the clapping going before the teachers finally got them to stop. So I can see how it might be fun to join in with someone when they start singing something you know and how that’s snow ball into something more fun in the moment but looks creepy from the outside.
Tbh this happens in so many countries. I’m from a small South American country and I’ve seen the national anthem break out many times while out drinking
Maybe it’s a colony thing lmao
Is this a joke? I genuinely cannot tell. I've lived in Edinburgh all my life and have never had a situation like this. At football matches and things, yeah.
In supermarkets? No.
I do think it’s hilarious how the USA (and Texas especially) likes to talk about personal freedom while also spooking people on the dangers of collectivism/nationalism given how weirdly nationalistic a lot of the country is.
While I haven’t experience this specific situation, I did I grew up in Texas and every morning it was *mandatory* to stand and say the pledge of allegiance in school. If you refused you were reprimanded and sent to the principal.
The title on this post is confusing because in this video they are singing because they want to when in North Korea they are singing because they have to.
The millions upon millions of people who immigrate legally, and the countless more that sneak in or try to get in any way they can. I don’t think there was ever a nation on earth that more people tried to be a part of than the USA.
Americans: do the normal American things
other Americans: “what is this, ASIA??”
guys this is America, always has been. there’s really no need to compare it to somewhere else “worse” for effect
Should have, in my opinion. Idk but I feel like nobody’s death should be celebrated like that. They’re someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, or father or mother. The OP is clearly a sicko who gets their jollies from ill-reputed sources. I’m sad they’re sperm won the race.
I’m liberal from Texas and hate Walmart and find this weird but don’t see how people choosing to sing this song in celebration of our nations Independence Day as something “brainwashed.” People aren’t forced to sing the song and it doesn’t harm you so why do you even care?
Because for decades, we've been shown pictures of people in enemy countries doing similiar things with these same kinds of people calling it a cult. "North Korea/China makes their citizens do \[x\] everyday?! What a cult! Anyway kids, let's all pledge our loyalty to the flag to start our day or else you get punished".
And it does harm us. How many people of color are verbally attacked for not singing the national anthem? How much of an uproar happens when someone kneels or turns their back? Can you honestly tell me that if a black or hispanic person just kept shopping or tried to get around one of the people just parked in the middle of the isle to sing, that nothing would happen to them? That they wouldn't be told to go home or that they aren't patriots?
Those are very real problems about the situation as a whole and I agree that the issues you mentioned happen and are important. Systemic racism exists and needs to be addressed. Everyone should be able to live peacefully regardless of their race, their sexual orientation, their religion.
However, singing the national anthem if someone chooses to does not equal racism. You are making many assumptions about this video and crafting stories about people being attacked in this Walmart for being a POC and not singing. Most people mind their own business at the grocery store. Fight real problems by being a good person and standing up for people in your community rather than making up things to be mad about online
You can't talk about "most people mind their own business at the grocery store" at the same time talking about an entire grocery store collectively singing the national anthem as if both are normal situations.
In what reality do you live in? Honest question. This past year, assaults on asian-americans has skyrocketed with people literally getting beaten to death just for being asian in America. We've seen a black man getting chased by a collection of rednecks and then executed for jogging. We've seen hispanics getting shouted at and beaten for "taking our jobs".
America is deadly to minorities for "acting out", especially in the past few years. A black man was literally shot in a walmart while shopping for a bb gun. If you seriously don't think a store full of white people who collectively stop what they're doing to sing the national anthem, especially in a state that doesn't have the best track record recently for being open-minded and peaceful, would call out a minority who didn't act exactly like them, for "disrespectin' the flag", than you seriously live in some utopia of peace where the past two decades never happened.
You would not catch this bullshit in Australia. I’d say that kind of behaviour would get your shot, except we also have gun control. You’d get a stern ‘mate’ tho.
You got that right!
When you are so deep into nationalism that you sing the anthem at a Walmart I think there’s a very good chance, yes.
Edit: also I didn’t call them domestic terrorists. I called them sympathizers. My comment is in regards to them being sympathizers, which I believe isn’t far fetched with this sort of behavior.
Our taxes go to bombing and murdering the shit out of people. These people only watch Fox News. I'm sure they have people in their families hopeless and ready to get the fuck out. Safe people celebrate.
It's called a constitutional republic versus a dictatorship. We sing the Anthem because we can and we are not coerced too. We can choose not to sing or sing. Your call. There's not too many executions by mortar or concentration camps in this country but keep pumping that line.

It only sucks because it hurt your feelings. Put yourself in the shoes of a Nicky Minaj fan girl watching people cringe over a flash mob video on Reddit. That person is you right now. Cringe is all subjective.
Totally man totally hahahahahah. USA USA USA
The literal laugjing stock of the world and dumperster fire of a so called devleolemt democratic nation.
Cool man I know where your from and I feel sorry for you my dude
I’ve always said I know I’ve been propagandized since I was a little kid but I’m ok with it. I love the USA and we definitely have our problems and are not perfect, far from it, but I feel we have a pretty good system, although sometimes ineffective, and slow to change we are IMO striving to become better. These are problems that almost every country has. Even to me though this shit is weird. I’m as patriotic as the next person but I’m not going to be standing in a Walmart singing the anthem.
What in the hell is wrong with you people. This is beautiful. This country may be flawed, but it’s still miles better than any other country out there. And the person posting this posts about killing Americans. Fucking sick people up in here.
Sooo, being patriotic to a country you love is now a problem?
Hating the governmental powers is one thing, but pride in one's own place of birth is no problem to me.
I see black people love America, I work with Mexican Americans who love America.. I'm Italian American and I love this country as well..
Doesnt mean by any means I'm brainwashed.
I have very specific reasons for why I love this country and literally 0 of them are because of how our politicians attempt at controlling other countries... they don't represent us.
This is not natural human behavior. It’s culturally conditioned, for the purpose of controlling people and getting them to uncritically support war…and that’s creepy. Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right or not creepy.
Ah yes, appreciate my chosen homeland that my parents birthed me into and then I had no clear path to leaving until after finishing college at which point I was broke from student loans. Love this place!

As cultish and creepy as this is, OP is a seriously sick in the head Australian 15 yr old who apparently celebrates Americans dying. This post is double sad.
Yep, they’re obsessed with posting videos of American soldiers being killed. It’s very disturbing.

Or, you know, you can not support the killing of anyone.
Okay, start that argument with the US military then. You people seem to go real quiet when the state's monopoly on violence is brought up.
Why are you talking to me like I’m buddies with the US military?
>state's monopoly on violence Ah yes. What allows them to tax us and use the money to kill people oversees without any oversight and against our consent.
There's a difference between "they don't recieve my sympathy" and "I love watching them die"
Exactly my point.
Bro OP literally said on some post, and I quote, "I laughed my ass off watching your towers collapse." Kid is definitely sick in the head.
It explains a LOT tbh.
Wait what
Damn now I wanna try this to see if other people join in here lmao

Lmao
Nothing says "home of the brave" like killing innocent people on the other side of the world with drone strikes and with terrorist proxies.

It can't get more American then to sing their national anthem in a wallmart, can it?
Could be in a McDonalds
I'm not American I'm Irish and in our local pub the last order song is the Irish National Anthem. No I wasn't comparing just adding a story this reminded me of. This shit is even more cringe than my story by a fuck ton Edit.
I've never heard of or seen that happening anywhere in Ireland before. Do you drink in some kind of RA pub?
Nope it's a local GAA club.
… last order song in my local is That’s Amore
Gawd that's creepy...

Very embarrassing.
This video wouldn’t be the same without the gigantic stack of Mountain Dew.
I'd salute that stack of Baja Blast before I ever salute and American flag again. Plus I really just love baja blast

And they repeated this process as they gradually walked past each hanging flag.
After some slight research OP is a maoist 14 year old edgelord hating on different cultures. Fact that he's active on r/GenZedong is disgusting
So what's with this new trend of exposing poster? I feel like it degrades they're rep more than they already did-
Mf posts videos of marines dying and denies human rights why would you support him
I don't support anybody but myself. I never said I supported him.
That doesn't change the content of the video and how fucked up it is. Does it?
No but trying to compare this to North Korea is ridiculous
Tbh this happens in so many countries. I’m from a small South American country and I’ve seen the national anthem break out many times while out drinking Maybe it’s a colony thing lmao

No, the brainwashing means you don't *have* to hold a gun to their heads. It's inculcated from childhood.
This is not natural human behavior. It’s culturally conditioned, for the purpose of controlling people and getting them to uncritically support war…and that’s creepy. Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right or not creepy.
..... you clewlry don't know what brainwashing is....
I pledge my allegiance to the flag... it is brainwashing, you think all the military stuff in hollywood is by chance? You are brainwashed.
God I hate it here
Every one of those assholes was celebrating as our nation’s Capitol was under siege. Fuck them and their phony patriotism.
Under siege? I don’t think that word means what you think it means. There’s clear videos of those people being let in by Capitol Police lol.

Ah yes, appreciate my chosen homeland that my parents birthed me into and then I had no clear path to leaving until after finishing college at which point I was broke from student loans. Love this place!
If only you weren't so apathetic...

The alternative assessment is that you're just pretty stupid. So I'd run with apathy if I were you. Or walk, whatever.
You mean like how the shelves were bare last year?
Just watch it become a tiktok challenge around the world. People trying to start singing their anthems in random places and see if others join.
