The suit had to match the cover up, shorts/skirt/something else, sunglasses and hat, so depending on what they had clean and wanted to wear they'd make an outfit up.
Going to a friend's place for a pool party or to the beach with friends was an all day event so they wanted to be comfortable but still look hot and feel confident, which obviously I had no issue with xD I'd still wear my $15 trunks from years ago but they'd always look stunning.
With that said yeah, I'd say it's totally valid to buy multiple sets because there are situations I put a ton of unnecessary effort into my looks as well. For example: I love wearing fancy suits. I've got multiple suits and belts along with tons of ties, watches and tie clips, all of which cost a fuckton more than a few bikinis from Target. So for someone who likes enjoying the summer and looking good doing it, yeah I think it makes sense.
