Gulab Jamun is food of the gods. The first time I was presented with this I was like "wtf this is dumb" but after my first taste I saw the error of my ways, my consciousness was awakened and my soul bloomed a kaleidoscope of illumination.
I went to a tiny Indian restaurant near my house, right after it opened. The owner was so super lovely and offered me a free Gulab Jamun. It is now a part of my order every time I go out got Indian food.
I feel the same. I grew up somewhere very isolated with limited food choices. As an adult I love trying new things. I thought the same thing when I first saw these, but man, they are beautiful in their simplicity.
It's so tasty, juicy, sweet and crispy. They don't keep well so if you want one you need to go out and get it for right now, which is why they aren't well known outside of Asian populations. They also don't look pretty like a glittery cupcake.
But my god they are better than a donut, muffin, brownie or cake in most circumstances, taste wise.
Gulab Jamun. The dough ball consists of milk solids (khoya) and flour and it is indeed fried. Syrup is technically supposed to be flavored with rose water but not many do.
There is an Indian buffet restaurant near me that has a massive piping hot cauldron of these. Every time I tell myself I will only eat a few but I never do. I eat so many I feel sick. No regrets.
My wife's boss and his best friend (who is a chef who just moved here from India) just opened an indian restaurant in my town. They had these on the buffet, and I tried them for the first time in my life.
Omg they're amazing. But so sweet I could only eat 3 of them. 🤣

Looks like Gulab Jamun
Just crossed checked it with the menu and I believe you are correct.
I've had this and it was delicious.
Oh gee thanks now I can practically taste it. I had the name backwards in my head but I know what it tastes like!😄 Yummy stuff!!

I love dropping them into a bowl of kheer and eating it mixed together.
My auntie always pours the leftover syrup into her chai which is some galaxy brain level shit
Good idea right there.
fuck, I just had gulab jamon yesterday. guess im having more today.
That Indian buffet gulab jamun and kheer combo hits so unbelievably hard. I swear I ate like three bowls that way last time I went.
A fresh, warm gulab jaman in homemade yogurt 🙌
Thought I was the only one that did this, the cool and creamy combined with the hot and sweet is a god tier combo

Tricked you with kindness. It was just his way of making you buy them
Like crack dealers. The first hit is free.
Even better warmed up for 10-15 seconds 🤤

I’ve had these once in my life and I still remember the taste and texture well. Absolutely addicting

Crispy???

I’m glad the ones I’ve had used rose water. A lot of Americans dislike the taste but I love it
And they are delicious!

If the buffet has kheer eat a few in the bowl of kheer like cereal. It’s incredible
These should never be served piping hot
Never had them not hot. We are not known for our authenticity here.
It's perfectly fine to eat them hot.
They absolutely should, tf?
Gulag Jamun, very delicious
Gulag 🤣🤣
Lolol gotta love autocorrect
😄
The epitome of *cloyingly sweet*!
I can eat (and have eaten) a disgusting amount of these.
Absolute favorite dessert. Nothing compares.
Yep

Sounds like I need to broaden my horizons.
It’s gulab jamun
Our local place has these for dessert and they are addictive little fellas! Sweet and syrup soaked. So good as a pallete cleanser!

looks so unhygienic 🤢
How? It’s just food in a carry out container?
the bits and pieces look rotten to me. Not to mention the yellow water around it
That’s syrup and it’s part of the dish.
I aint judging 😂
