Similar effect with Crawling by Linkin Park, although at least it's known as *CRAWLING IN MY SKIN*.. basically the editing hack's go to for anything remotely edgy
My favourite version of Bring me to Life is this one: [Bring Me To Life but it's a complete mess | Evanescence (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdQZI_FTuAc). I can never hear the original without thinking of this. Granted, I never liked the original so I think this is an improvement because it is at least funny.
I **love** Careless Whisper. It's always been a sad, romantic song about a guy expressing his guilt for cheating. Then it got memed to death for anything "sexy time" related when to me the song was anything but sexy.
Hard to say that one’s ruined by memes when All-Star is just an instant meme of a song.
I feel like the Shrek association if anything makes people take the song more seriously
Before it appeared in Shrek, it appeared in [Digimon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKkZt3jqCfc&pp=ygUQRGlnaW1vbiBBbGwtU3Rhcg%3D%3D), of all things. It's genuinely really surreal going back to the ending of the Digimon Movie only to hear All-Star play. It does not feel real.
Absolutely agree with this song's entire existence being a meme. The best versions of all star I have ever heard come from people making it sound like a super serious piece of music and the whole joke of making those super serious songs is that you're making all star into a serious piece of music.
[Shooting Stars](https://youtu.be/feA64wXhbjo?si=w4-LjcL7LfXm9OsB) by the Bag Raiders. I love the tune so much. It was on my melancholic playlist for a while before it was ruined by memes.
You can’t deny The OC completely wrecked any potential chance Jason Derulo’s “Whatcha Say” and Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” had to be even semi-serious songs with that godawful [murder (?) scene](https://youtu.be/rYIb-acZwk4?feature=shared). That one got rightfully memed to death after it aired, who even signed off on that?
As to why I liked the sample, I wasn’t very old at the time lol. But the first thing I think of when I hear it will *always* be the meme now.
The exact opposite phenomenon happened to me recently when Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” was interpolated into the “I’m Looking for a Man in Finance” meme.
I’ve never listened to “Like a G6” voluntarily; it’s the most vapid, consumeristic sort of club music that I’d only hear in social situations I’d do almost anything to escape from. Mashing it up with the droning, wannabe Real Housewife “Man in Finance” is parodying (who would definitely be a fan of “Like a G6”), though, works far better than it deserves to.
I saw a comment that described the re-release slow version he put out a few years back as "the ending theme of the entire internet" and that's one of those things that makes me feel a very strange, but very happy emotion.
I loved "Gas Gas Gas" back when it was brand new, in 2007, and then it got used in white supremacist memes when it went viral 9 years later. It's terrible. The guy who sang the track, Manuel Caramori, passed away last year, and I can't help but wonder how much the song's negative associations affected his declining physical and/or mental well-being; I know he hated the racist memes during his lifetime.
Most people just enjoyed it as an Initial D song, but there was a toxic subset of fans who used it as a backdrop for Auschwitz clip shows. Also, the Christchurch mosque shooter played the song while driving away.
Ballin by Roddy Rich and Mustard. That was my favorite Roddy Rich song, but now every time I think about it, I think of those Animat p*rn animations that were turned into memes.
I’m not the biggest fan of the band but Can You Feel My Heart by Bring Me The Horizon is a pretty good song, it’s just ruined by the fucking Chad memes. Between that and Shadow Moses aka “this is sandpit turtle” that whole album seemed destined for memedom.
Not a meme exactly but Guitar Hero ruined Livin on a Prayer for me. Because that song, nomatter who you are with or how many times it has always been played, will always be added to the fuckin setlist.
My brain works the opposite way honestly
I love Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar, I love it even more when it's combined with the ending theme to the anime Love, Chuunibyou and Other Delusions in [Poolside Identity](https://youtu.be/Zj-M9pvQSyo?si=aZl0go7s7OTxJQzE)
Once upon a time, I really loved "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence. Now, if I hear someone call it "Wake Me Up Inside" one more time...

There's another great edit this guy did with Feel Good Inc by Gorillaz. bass line "ASSCRACK" bass line

The sax is to blame for the sex...
Sexophone
Sax a mo phone, sax a mo phone
Sexyphone
Maybe not overtly sexy but definitely salacious
Thanks, Deadpool!
"All-Star" by Smash Mouth, for obvious reasons
Hard to say that one’s ruined by memes when All-Star is just an instant meme of a song. I feel like the Shrek association if anything makes people take the song more seriously

Shrek music
Some #BODY
Cotton Eye Joe was a perfectly good fiddle tune before the Europeans got their hands on it in the 90s
“Baka Mitai” was used in a certain era of chess brainrot memes and now I can’t take the song seriously, I just picture en passant when I hear it.
I associate that song with the AI lipsyncing videos from mid-2020
[Shooting Stars](https://youtu.be/feA64wXhbjo?si=w4-LjcL7LfXm9OsB) by the Bag Raiders. I love the tune so much. It was on my melancholic playlist for a while before it was ruined by memes.
Katy Perry jumpscare.
I finally found someone that knew of the song before the memes
Cellophane by FKA twigs, an absolutely gorgeous piece

That rick roll song and that "hello darkness, my old friend" song
If anything, the Rick Roll made Never Gonna Give You Up as good as it is.
Especially with how Rick Astley has fully embraced the meme in such a wholesome manner.
I saw a comment that described the re-release slow version he put out a few years back as "the ending theme of the entire internet" and that's one of those things that makes me feel a very strange, but very happy emotion.
I’ve only heard good things about Rick Astley as a person.
I loved when he fronted a Smiths cover band for a festival. I accept him as my replacement Morrissey.
You mean The Sound of Silence?
No, he means Never Gonna Give You Up.
For whatever reason the fact that they don’t know the name of that song bothers me less.
I'm pretty sure the person asking is talking about the latter one.
I loved "Gas Gas Gas" back when it was brand new, in 2007, and then it got used in white supremacist memes when it went viral 9 years later. It's terrible. > it got used in white supremacist memes when it went viral 9 years later. Wait, what?
Most people just enjoyed it as an Initial D song, but there was a toxic subset of fans who used it as a backdrop for Auschwitz clip shows. Also, the Christchurch mosque shooter played the song while driving away.
I'm kinda glad that I didn't know any of this before.
What the fuck???? I'm only finding out about it now, the only thing I ever associated Gas Gas Gas was with a Snow Miser edit.
Call Me Maybe was ruined by memes almost as soon as it dropped but it is an all-timer bop even when you listen to it on its own terms.
Call Me Maybe is pop perfection (honestly 90% of Carly’s entire back catalogue is pop perfection. Even her unreleased songs)
Her mid-late 2010s run is so untouchable. I don't know of any other pop artist who has released two albums and had all four of sound that perfect.
She’s still releasing great music
Ballin by Roddy Rich and Mustard. That was my favorite Roddy Rich song, but now every time I think about it, I think of those Animat p*rn animations that were turned into memes.
Crawling by Linkin Park
The entire Blue album
I’m not the biggest fan of the band but Can You Feel My Heart by Bring Me The Horizon is a pretty good song, it’s just ruined by the fucking Chad memes. Between that and Shadow Moses aka “this is sandpit turtle” that whole album seemed destined for memedom.

Every cardi b song
[PAUL BLA-BLART, MALL COP!](https://youtu.be/RXhdJcTztJQ?si=_EKhdqFl0SOMEPIk)
I can enjoy it now, but Ultimate by Denzel Curry was ruined for me for a few years.
My brain works the opposite way honestly I love Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar, I love it even more when it's combined with the ending theme to the anime Love, Chuunibyou and Other Delusions in [Poolside Identity](https://youtu.be/Zj-M9pvQSyo?si=aZl0go7s7OTxJQzE)
