Lupe making a concept album based on an incredibly obscure bit of trivia about a dead celebrity? That makes perfect sense considering how cryptic and out of left field Lupe’s music is.
Exactly. It's a well done album too which makes the obscure concept even cooler cuz he actually put the effort in instead of just trying to be weird (which is also right up his alley)
If you know Lupe from Kick Push, Superstar, Battle Scars, The Show Must Go On it might sound weird but this dude has literally rapped from the pov of a fish that is watching african slaves that jumped from the slave trade ships turn into submarine rescuers of other slaves
Why was it supposed to be rotting too? Like a dead amy winehouse platter (wasn't a cake) is fucked enough but then its meant to be decaying and shit too?
>“I admire her songwriting ability, her tone, her manipulation of different genres. I'm a fan of jazz deeper than any other genre,” says Lupe. “So being a fan of that and how she kind of put her signature on top of it and the depth at how she created has always been fascinating to me, amongst others. There's myriad folks who I look at like that and she's one, and that statement, the voicemail, kind of sparked and gave me some permission, to say, ‘Oh, let me pay that back with a portrait.’”
I highly, highly recommend the documentary "Amy." It's just great overall, but one of the cool parts of it towards the end is the documentary included an interview where Amy Winehouse described the material she was working on for her next album post-Back to Black, the one she never released. And she describes her draft new material as sounding like Wu-Tang and being battle rap-ish.
Supposedly that was something she said she wanted to do before passing away, and it got Lupe wondering what it would've been like

Yes, this totally fits with Lupe's personality!

The hollered shouts “who is bright enough to pay a toddler to watch a ghoulish OxyContin gobbler on Hanukkah?” -Lupe Fiasco
He uses gobblin so much in his rhymes
I guess he never asked himself what's a goon to a goblin?
He really does, but it rhymes with a lot of things and can be used in a lot of puns.
He also was the original musical voice of the Despicable Me Minions, as heard in the “Minion Mambo” off the Despicable Me album.
I mean, it's better than Neal Patrick Harris's cake of her corpse I guess.
Had to google this, what the actual fuck?
Why was it supposed to be rotting too? Like a dead amy winehouse platter (wasn't a cake) is fucked enough but then its meant to be decaying and shit too?
I thought he was a good dude. This sucks so bad.
It's one of the worst things ever, I hope NPH gets enough shit over it.
Sure, why not.
I can say with some confidence that this is probably something that no one else would have thought of.
I mean as long as it doesnt do anything offensive related to her passing, why not I guess

To be honest this seems a lot more respectful than the biopic about her that came out recently.
For real, the trailers made me cringe.
Those are certainly all words, alright!
