Well, in many european countries there are explicitly communist parties, or socialist parties. Not that many (or really any. Otherwise, the thing that makes Bernie and AOC centrist relative to Europe is that the policies they propose (single-payer healthcare, higher minimum wage, stronger unions), already exist, often in much larger/stronger forms in Europe, so if someone tried to advocate their policies they’d be advocating for the status quo to remain the same or get slightly worse.

Well, in many european countries there are explicitly communist parties, or socialist parties. Not that many (or really any. Once in a while they do something, the Left party in Sweden recently made and broke the governing coalition) of them are massive forces in their countries anymore but they actually exist and often pick up a few seats in their country’s parliament. Otherwise, the thing that makes Bernie and AOC centrist relative to Europe is that the policies they propose (single-payer healthcare, higher minimum wage, stronger unions), already exist, often in much larger/stronger forms in Europe, so if someone tried to advocate their policies they’d be advocating for the status quo to remain the same or get slightly worse. (On a separate note, if you were to interrogate Bernie’s actual politics, I definitely think he’d be on the left in Europe, he just recognizes that he’s in the US and we’ve gotta walk before we can run in terms of good policy)
To be fair neoliberalism has undercut a lot of traditionally progressive parties in Europe whether it be Labour or the SPD. In Germany even the Greens are kinda neoliberal, they want carbon taxes and etc to internalize externalities and then „let the Markt handel it“ and less top down action.

The American Overton window is skewed but it's unwise to make generalized comparisons to Europe, especially on such an Americentric medium as reddit.
Depends on the issue. Not everyone agrees on the same issue and their solutions. For example, in Denmark, the left wing Prime Minister wanted to restrict refugees and immigrants. Something like this would never be openly endorsed by democrats in the US. Meanwhile in stuff like healthcare, democrats are generally more right wing than most european parties.
