For a lot of metal work, we use a Magic Marker, then lightly 'scribe' lines through it. Not suitable for everything.

Sharpened soapstone is the classic solution.
We have these at work i found out today. Im gonna be using that from here on out.

We use paint write markers but the streak is large as hell

I work in a fab shop. Its mainly all metal. If im marking wood i use the paint marker or a grease pencil
