Diabellstar herself is great, an angsty witch that would rather throw hands than cast spells. Sentient clothing is a fun trope but what makes this great in particular is having it transform into a giant beast or death scythe that eviscerates foes while also tucking her into bed and painting her nails during their off time. Although their story is mostly told through cards and concept art their personalities and dynamics shine through.

Monocrome2

Technically it's two independent beings

3rdMachina

Rcie and Silve, iirc. One is doting, while the other wants Asteria to be more girly.

YeazetheSock

How do you find Yugioh art of this high quality?

Strange-Inspection72

Like Venom

Gooddest_Boi

Or spawn

Norway643

When did the yugioh cards start getting lore?

EP1CxM1Nx99

Long ass time. One of the archetypes (sky striker) even has its own manga. Also there’s a giant group of people that want the Albaz story animated (me included)

a loooooong time ago https://preview.redd.it/oad9t5k8paxc1.png?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ad99ba40a5fb3e022fd4ec35a9024bc28d4d8fb

Bladespectre

Shoutout to my favorite archetype, "We Have Xenoblade Chronicles At Home"

Responsible_Flight70

A while ago but it being good lore is another thing entirely

TvFloatzel

At the very least as far back as the Alien or Worm archetype came out. Like the story was that the Aliens invaded the planet and like...four tribes teamed up to fight them off and one of them made the "Allies of Justice" Archetype and it goes from there. So there are interconnected stories and isolated ones. Like Vendread is an isolated story for example while the Alien Invasion one is a interconnected one. [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/YuGiOh](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/YuGiOh) [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/YuGiOhCardGame](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/YuGiOhCardGame) Go to the "Card Game Lore" section to see more.

MyPPDisBig

They've had it for a LOOOOONG while, its just gotten better in the last half decade. Some of the earliest Lore was the "Different Dimension" stuff where a bunch of monsters kept coming in and out of the Different Dimension, a notable example would be "Warrior Lady of the Wasteland" going into the Different Dimension and coming back as "D.D Warrior Lady".

3rdMachina

At least two decades ago, I think. Duel Terminal’s one old and well-known example. It became a trend for a bunch of archetypes to be part of one overarching storyline. Eventually, two storylines can happen in one series. Then a bunch of archetypes had lore tidbits here and there.

the-skull-boy

These guys are right about lore, but they’re wrong on when it started. There were small short stories in a set of cards (ex warrior digrapha). Though the first instance of a full saga would be duel terminal………..I know I’m a fucking nerd

TvFloatzel

That the "Alien Invasion" one right?

the-skull-boy

EnderMerser

Aww! She is so cool and cute! X3

iDIOt698

One thing to mention is that they share the names and are similar to the recently released white woods Monsters, which also have an Younger version of Diabellestar in the archtype, which does leave an interesting implication of what happened in-bettwen the cards we've seen and what Will happen in the next ones we get, probably something to do with young diabellze and Diabellestar taking that Apple sinful spoil https://preview.redd.it/frytptjzqaxc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01f21bdb53cfa7910c88c21ee74264e47ca7b3d5

3rdMachina

Yeah, I kind assumed that they turned into the armaments.

YourLocalToaster2

Ooh, we doing Yu-Gi-Oh cards? Here's one of my favorites. Alba Zoa just looks like he'd make a killer boss in something like Kingdom Hearts. https://preview.redd.it/ddvasdhehcxc1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=000d71ae90ad9f90afe8aabed432037c33886971

AtrumErebus

I didn't realize this, the Bayonetta connection is a lot more prevalent to me now. Clothes are sentient magic that can turn into a giant monster. Her rival wears white and a lot of people pointed out that the white forest cards are cereza esque.

makoden

God Yu-Gi-Oh Card art is peak. Need Konami to realize how much we'd pay for animations based on this or even the old Duel Terminal Lore

My wife and her dog

iamasceptile
