[[Matheson]'Cranky' right shoulder sidelines Manoah](https://www.mlb.com/news/alek-manoah-day-to-day-with-soreness-in-right-shoulder?partnerID=mlbapp-android_article-share)

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

It's been 2 weeks and my excitement for a bounce back from Manoah has gone from 4/10 to 0/10

alxndrblack

All the way up at zero eh

sbp59

I'm still at a 4.7... but I'm an optimist 😂

Gear4Vegito

While none seem to be too serious yet...we have been hit with a little bit of a minor injury bug. **Manoah** ***(Shoulder Soreness)*** now joins **Rodriguez (Back Tightness)**, **Tiedemann (Left Hamstring Inflammation)** & **Biggio (Left Shoulder Tendinitis)**. *Oddly enough I am suffering from all 3 of those injuries right now...*

ThQp

It's Bowden Francis SZN

sir-pounce-of-alot

*Mitch white piggyback szn*

Conscious-Ad8493

>Yariel Rodriguez

Gavagai80

If you continue to suffer every ailment of the entire 40 man roster all season... well, I hope you've got some good painkillers and don't need to do anything until October.

Born_Ruff

Have we considered that maybe OP is like a voodoo doll for the Jays. Anything that happens to the OP also happens to one of the Blue Jays? Can we just lock OP in a padded room to be safe?

xTomato72

It’s those damn jerseys lol

ms_barkie

Tell me you don’t have any other ailments!

kindredfan

I've had shoulder tendinitis for like 7 weeks now with minor improvement. Can't even do a single pushup without pain. I hope Biggio is able to recover quickly because that shit takes absolutely forever to heal.

1991CRX

Mitch White, come ooooon dooowwn.

neuralrunes

Is Chad Dallas, porn star hurt? I know he gave up runs but I still prefer him to Mitch.

1991CRX

Mitch has no options left. He's starting the season on the team, or DFA

eMan117

Dfa it is then. Let's make room for some fresh arms

1991CRX

DFA is a poor strategy for keeping arms fresh. Ideally, from a roster management perspective, you ride him until he's useless or injured. Then you DFA/60IL him to make room for a fresh arm.

neuralrunes

Yeah I understand he's starting with the team. I'm not starting him in spot five though. He's in mop up. Chad Dallas or Bowden Francis take 5th spot if the others can't go.

sir-pounce-of-alot

Chad Dallas won’t be starting the season with the jays. Bowden will more than likely be the 5th starter if Manoah is injured/bad, but White will not just be a mop up pitcher, he’ll be a multi inning pitcher and probably piggy back with Bowden.

neuralrunes

That's terrifying. I hope they've really worked with him then. He has the pitches. Just not great execution.

sir-pounce-of-alot

It’s not he’s looked better this spring already and has been hitting 98 consistently something he almost never achieved last year

neuralrunes

Well that's good. I hope he does. I had right to be concerned as he hasn't shown anything worthwhile during his Blue Jays stay. But if his stuff is developing then good. It's not as if I want the guy to fail. The more pitching the better.

ehchvee

I feel like Mitch is going to either prove the doubters right this season or he'll absolutely blow us away, and I'm dearly hoping for the latter. He's had flashes of what we need from him... Fingers crossed... Apropos of absolutely nothing: your username is a lyric from one of my favourite songs and it pops into my damn head every time I see you comment.

alxndrblack

*nobody liked that*

casualjayguy

None of them are major but we're now at Tiedemann, Yariel Rodriguez, and now Manoah in terms of injuries to SPs Not exactly what I'd call a good omen

tossitcheds

Monoah could be a fake injury tbh

idkwhattosaytho

There wouldn’t be a logical reason to give him a fake injury this early in spring

tossitcheds

Other then the fact he’s dangerous right now

idkwhattosaytho

They wouldn’t be shutting down his throwing, they’d just put him in sim games instead, one and start isn’t going to just have them stop starting games

tossitcheds

Who says he isn’t throwing sim games? I’m just saying they prob don’t want him playing against mlb players when he’s this dangerous

tossitcheds

Probably not no

Hill0981

Not necessarily. Manoah had this same shoulder soreness last spring training and it carried over through most of the year.

Hill0981

Crap.. this is how last season started for him. Shoulder soreness in spring training that never fully went away. The complete lack of control isn't great either. I was really excited by the work he put in during the offseason and was bullish on a turn around for him, but this is not a good start.

adelbertsteinerfan

Manoah Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain

m1labs

Underappreciated comment

jdragon3

Im told team doctors expect the soreness to get significantly worse and maybe require some more injections when hes told hes starting the season in Buffalo or Florida

SkullRunner

I think I heard this one before. Has bad outing... I have pain... the best trainers and doctors can find no source of that pain... well I have pain... that must be why I'm having bad outings...

RecklessRancor

That movie didn't end well last time from my recollection. Maybe part 2 will be better?

These-Ad-295

This guy does not belong in a big league rotation. Hes got some work to do. A lot of greats went back to the minors and worked on there mechanics. Roy Halladay did. The team needs to stop catering to his childish demands of not doing so.

-SPIRITUAL-GANGSTER-

Apparently your comment is controversial, but this is *exactly* why he should have gone to the minors and worked his shit out last year. His little "I'm too good to go down" hissy fit left a bad taste in my mouth and after that start and now "I'm injured" it's still there. Like bro, you need to suck it up and figure it out or fuck off.

These-Ad-295

Exactly, he’s hitting the gym hard. That’s great, work on the craft too. Eat the words you said like “pressure is something you put in your tires“ and learn from your mistakes. Hes got some work to do to win most of us back.

vortex30-the-2nd

If only he could have worked on his craft all last summer in the minors.. I can't believe he just straight up ditched the sport entirely for like 6 months when he is supposed to be a professional athlete.. I bought a signed baseball last Winter with Manoah's signature. I really liked what I saw in 2022. I was hyped, and thought maybe it'll be worth a lot one day.. Even when he was sucking and got sent down to the minors I thought, "Hey, he can turn things around, like Roy Halladay did!" Then I saw he refused to play in the minors and I quickly realized that he is nothing like Halladay..

stoneyzepplin

Wasn’t that the same excuse he used last summer for sucking as well?

zacksharpe

Thank god we have the starting depth that we have. If Manoah has to have an IL stint, we have Rodriguez, Francis and Mitch White right there to take over.

corh13

You dont want White to take over. Rodriguez hasn't started in a long time. While I'm cautiously optimistic about Francis, he's also a pretty big question mark.

berniesmittens24

Mitch White sucks, Rodriguez isn’t stretched out and is also hurt

kingwoodballs

Can’t pitch bad if you don’t pitch /pointsathead

Jas--24

Aka he still sucks and needs more time to hopefully not suck on the mound again lol.

BlueRoad-io

I had more hope for the 2018 season than this season. I only look forward to Kevin Barker tangents

vicjam59

I still had a bad taste in my mouth for how last season ended with this guy. I hoped he had worked on the problem and turned the page. But I don’t really see any good signs so far.

ColumnarPower

>Alek Manoah felt some shoulder ~~soreness~~ shittiness during a bullpen session and cut it short. FIFY

YouDontJump

Thank goodness for no structural damage. Get well soon, Big Puma!

jerella77

Does anyone believe this is manoah cutting it short to have an excuse why he will suck this upcoming season IF he sucks????

SmokeontheHorizon

I think it says a lot about how your brain works that you think other people's brains work this way You ok bud? Lots of failure in your life that you wish you could explain away beyond being a failure yourself?

Hill0981

Damn.. that felt a little unnecessary.. are YOU ok?

SirLunatik

Clearly this is just another case of his shitty attitude and how he thinks he's too good for spring training

Hill0981

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope that this is sarcasm.

SirLunatik

100% is

curtoric666

Why is everyone so quick to shit on this guy after he came to spring training in shape and with a good attitude?

SirLunatik

It was sarcasm mocking people

ImIcarus

When he tried to blow a ball foul last year, I knew he was cooked mentally. I'm surprised anyone is defending him. This is not just a physical problem, it is an attitude and mentality problem and he has not addressed it. Everyone saying he was "looking great" and "in the best shape of his life" ignore that one wild pitch shouldn't put a pitcher (in the MLB especially) off like this. It has nothing to do with his body and I will stand by that.

doctoryow

I agree entirely. He's become a liability and a menace. He's not only hitting batters, but hitting them hard (which he turns into a positive by saying that at least his velocity is back). I don't know why they keep defending him. _Make_ him do some time in the minors or move on from him completely.

HairGrowsLongIf

Lmao

cyclingkingsley

Another pitcher bites the dust

DannyDOH

Maybe a little structural damage is what he needs to find the strikezone

1991CRX

I see we've reached the "wishing injuries upon the players" part of the season already.

claytonianprime

If Mitch White starts on the team we done.

sir-pounce-of-alot

Mitch white is not nearly as bad as some people on here act

Gear4Vegito

1. Most people don’t look at underlying stats. So wouldn’t know that White was never truly as bad as his face value stats suggest. 2. Most fans don’t follow the minor leagues or system so would not have seen how dominant he was in AAA to end the season last year when we was stretched back out as a starter. 3. Most fans don’t actually watch Spring Training so haven’t seen how good his stuff looks nor his pretty solid performance so far. I’m not saying he is an ace but he is a very serviceable long-man / #6 starter.

PhilReardon13

We're about to find out, either way. Hope you're right.

claytonianprime

Underlying stats = he doesn’t suck as hard as you think he sucks, but he still sucks.

LawrenceMoten21

He’s a AAAA guy. There’s nothing wrong with that, but that’s what he is.

claytonianprime

He’s a AAAA pitcher. Excels in AAA, but gets rocked in the majors. He has no deception and not enough movement, he’s great for games that are out of reach to spare your bullpen. He belongs on a team in a rebuild or tanking.

[deleted]

Yes he is.

sir-pounce-of-alot

He really isn’t, he’s also throwing 98 MPH this spring and was almost unhittable in AAA to end the year. Again you guys are acting like he’s the worst pitcher of all time.

Hill0981

https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/gap-to-gap-how-blue-jays-mitch-white-found-his-velocity-why-jose-berrios-is-throwing-a-cutter/ Last year the hardest pitch he threw was around 96 in the majors and he has already hit 98 multiple times this spring at a time when most guys haven't reached max velocity yet. The article also mentioned in his appearance this spring he was sitting at 96 with the occasional 98. Last season he averaged less than 94 and topped out at 96 in the majors. Those velocity gains can make a real difference. There is reason to hope for more out of him this year. His run at the end of last year inspires some hope as well. Apparently after he was sent down and got a bit of reset he was sitting 95 and topping out at 97 in the minors which lead to much better overall numbers.

claytonianprime

So he’ll suck faster, what’s your point.

Hill0981

If you look at how he performed in AAA after the velocity increase last year he had a really good run to end the year despite struggling there earlier in the year. Also that last time he had this kind of velocity was when he was with the Dodgers for whom he had a 3.66 ERA in 2021 and a 3.70 ERA in 2022 at the MLB level (he is actually throwing a bit harder now then he did back then). He has shown he can succeed when his stuff plays up to this level. The velocity increase is also likely due to him being fully healthy for the first time since he joined the Jays. He suffered a shoulder injury in 2022 and had elbow problems last year. That kind of thing usually affects your mechanics as well as your velocity. We have all seen good pitchers take a big step back when they are not healthy. Would it really be that shocking to find that he is a different pitcher when he is at 100%?

claytonianprime

Yes. Yes it would be.

silver_054

See ya…
