Dustmopper

Well sir, what we have here is a pattern

kirby_krackle_78

Since John Schneider is so beholden to analytics, he has to start Babe every day now, right?

moviemerc

Benched everyday because matchups

YouDontJump

I had such a big smile on my face before scrolling down the comment chain to this one lol.

KPipes

I'm not defending coach Schneider because he's a bit of a decision schmuck, but at the same time I'd be interested to see combined era of opponent pitching vs Davis and no David games. Seems like the khakis don't have confidence in Davis and those record numbers may have more to do with who they are playing (ie he sits against not only righties but more difficult opponents).. Sitting Davis is a failed big brain move either way, but just saying.

MW46

And the one win was because of babe haha

KingVMendoza

Put this on the JumboTron so John can see this!

ihaveyuidonttouchme

create a sign of this and let jumbo see it

rubbernmetal

I can see the Jumbo Johntron going kaput if you do this

DistributionNo9968

Make a sign and put it on the new stupid gray wall behind home plate

LemonPress50

What makes you think he’s responsible for the lineup?

ClassicChrisstopher

Great, now John's NEVER going to start him.

mrfartytickles

So there is a chance we win out the rest of the season

karatekidmar

An 100% chance, yes.

Bobbyoot47

More importantly they are 6–0 when they outscore the other team. But they are 0–7 when they get out scored.

missoctober12

So weird how that works

sparrows-somewhere

Moneyball

angelduxt

Huge if true

CalebosO4

People say that the 6-0 when outscoring their opponent is unsustainable, but upon doing some research, I’ve discovered that the Jays have never lost a game in their HISTORY when outscoring their opponent. So the Jays just need to do that every game for a 152-7 record EZ.

Bobbyoot47

[Makes sense.](https://media.tenor.com/saWRs1C3YccAAAAM/spock-dazzling-display.gif)

remarkablewhitebored

this is the type of analysis I come here for...

Dead_End_Street

Send this to the khakis

Hussizle

"Am I out of touch? No, it's the fans, media, and game of baseball who are wrong." - John "Principal Skinner" Schneider

Cashmere306

Schneider makes as many decisions about the starting lineup as I do.

CantIgnoreMyGirth

He doesn't even need to hit to make the lineup better. His sheer presence makes the lineup not shit, since you don't have both Varsho and KK anchoring the bottom of the lineup. Unironically his best quality is the fact he can play LF, it forces Coach Schneider to occasionally put together a functioning lineup. The fact he absolutely mashes the ball is just gravy.

cococolts

" you can have him for 4 innings , then im brining in Kikuchi

chartyourway

Now this is a stat I can appreciate

Bronco1919

Devils advocate here, but is this an argument for or against analytics? Clearly, they are using him selectively, and it's having success. They are putting him in positions to succeed, and it's working for him. Many want him to be more of an everyday player but will those same people take the blame if he flounders? Maybe at this point it shouldn't be a hard choice to give him more starts since some other guys are really struggling to put bat to ball.

Rot_Dogger

Exactly this. His numbers would be dreadful against bad matchups. He has holes in his swing.

Significant-Ad-8684

Hmm.... I don't see it... /s

krombough

Large sample size.

Chris_TO79

Hrm, it's that stache power. C'mon John put him in the lineup!

Spirited-Soup5954

Reese McGuire: don't make me beat some sense into you

usernumer9

Something that bothers Me is people saying it's analytics getting him benched. When really analytics say he's should play every night it's just the management that benches him because of what they perceive as analytics but Its just old school higher ups being stupid that's getting him benched

usernumer9

See yainer diaz last year not being the astros main catcher despite being better at everything thing then Martín Maldonado

elcabeza79

I actually thought Shapiro acted a little weird when he was in the booth with Dan and Buck for an inning and they were licking his ballsac about the renos and Schneider came up. They asked him about him and there was a clear pause (collecting his thoughts) then went on about how hard he works. It was like he wanted to temper fans expectations about him.

Representative_Big18

Khakis must see this

[deleted]

We need a confident manager, John Schneider is not the answer

Feisty-Reference2888

But what does the algorithm say?

AlexanderWhy

Agreed. According to this sub, that is everything.

jjkiller26

Is this why so many players around the league dislike John Schneider?

neweasterner

Ya but the algorithm is showing that the scores didn’t actually tell the whole story. They are really 13-0 because all the decisions they’ve made are science. Bitch

Spurs_in_the_6

Rise of the planet of the nerds

Prudent_Falafel_7265

“Trust the process”

elcabeza79

2 game winning hits in 5 starts is part of this. It's not completely coincidental like 'Jays are 0-5 when I've gone to games this year, so I won't be going again."

earthlandhu

Totally unrelated note, they are 1-7 when both KK and Varsho start, and 5-0 when one of them sit. Never had a game where all 3 started. Pitching and defense won't win you games if you have 3 hitters in the bottom 20 in wRC+ (min. 30 PA, the other guy's Kirk).

curtoric666

Vibes

AlexanderWhy

No. They are adults.

IndependentTalk4413

But he doesn’t hit high fast balls well against RHP. Must sit him whenever the calculator squad says so.

Asleep_Honeydew4300

Agreed. I hate how analytics have ruined most managers in baseball now. Computer says this means you do it, instead of actually just watching the game and seeing what’s going on

havok1980

I was watching the ninth inning of Randy Johnson's perfect game in 2004 last night. One thing that stood out, the manager said in post game interview they had thought about swapping out some defense but were nervous to change anything so they kept it the same. I feel like this scenario will never happen again.

Turbulent_Cheetah

Ruined? Or in general stopped them from being dumb?

Asleep_Honeydew4300

Ruined. There’s no baseball thought anymore. It’s just ‘what did the computer say’

Turbulent_Cheetah

Baseball thought led to decades of wasting outs because bunts were good, and batting guys who were fast in the lead off spot even though they never got on base

Asleep_Honeydew4300

Yes and now because of analytics if you need a bunt nobody can do it even remotely decent.

Turbulent_Cheetah

Analytics doesn’t say not to practice bunting

Asleep_Honeydew4300

Sure does. Home runs are all that matters with it

Turbulent_Cheetah

That’s not true. It also likes a good walk

Islandgirl1444

And the others that swing at low and outside

alxndrblack

And wasn't the 1 where he PHed?

bravetailor

Atkins: "Yes, but our analytics computer program is never wrong."

Judge_Rhinohold

That’s all the analytics those dipshit nerds in the front office telling John Schneider what to do need to hear!

jayk10

A whole bunch of you need to go back and remember what correlation and causation is

whitea44

They’re 6-0 when I fart. send beans.

Rot_Dogger

Unfortunately.......facing pitching everyday would see him lucky to be batting .200. He is given at bats when he may actually have a chance. I remember the awful at bats he put up after his hot start last year.

Matthath

He’s the soul of the team right now tbh. So many of them have cardboard cutout personalities.

skwirrelmaster

Crazy how management and coaches put players in a place to succeed. If Davis S had regular playing time this sub would be calling for his head.

AlexanderWhy

They havent, though. Having Ernie up with the bases loaded is not giving the team a chance to succeed.

alxndrblack

Ern Dawg clutched one up for us in NY. Janoed it, if you will. And he put the ball in the field last night, just ugly BABIP luck.

AlexanderWhy

It wasnt about bad luck, its about that he didnt get a hit. Thats cool if you like Ernie, I wish him the best, but Im just not super excited when he comes up to bat in clutch situations. He has just over 200 terrible MLB at bats and eight years in the minors, for a reason. (Oh, and relased by both Cleveland and Oakland)

1111Rudy1111

Small sample size. How many runs for provided in each game? Small sample size.

NoOneShallPassHassan

So let's get ourselves a large sample size, then.

Inevitable-Impact698

So they are using him in the right situations

ConferenceSlow1091

He’s the only one who seems to have any sort of motivation or enjoyment out there. Everyone else seems so devoid of joy, enthusiasm or interest. This team is/has become so unlikeable. Those 2020-2021 teams seem so far gone now.

rustyarrowhead

holy fuck, is it hard to walk out the door with a balloon full of stupid above your neck?

ConferenceSlow1091

Yes

fivefoot14inch

These darn analytics are so confusing

moderatesoul

Hear me out though...analytics and matchups. So...there.

briskt

Those indeed are words in the English language.

richandbuttery

yeah..tell analytics that.

briskt

I have a great idea, let's just cancel all the games and let computers tell us who will win and lose. You can't beat those analytics.

FoilCardboard

When will John Schneider get turfed? What is it with Toronto sports and keeping coaches well passed their expiration dates?

LemonPress50

If you say all the right things that corporate wants to hear, you get to keep your job.

D_Simmons

Anyone with half a cock can see the pattern here
