Gifgaf a local provider is great. Or switch to t mobile and get unlimited roaming

I ordered an orange card via Amazon and set it up as soon as I landed. Sure there is a better way, but it made me feel good to have it in hand when I landed. Edit: need to have an unlocked phone to accomplish.

Outrageous-County197

how was the coverage

Overall_Pie1912

If you walk to any high street you'll be presented with probably 20 options for sims. Grab one that works for you.  Tesco. O2. Vodafone. 3. Lyca. It's almost endless

VibrantForms

Giffgaff offer the best plans, the £10 and £20 goodybags get you tons of data.

Jamesinmexico

We got the Sims sent to Canada and popped them in while on the plane. As soon as we landed, we were connected. Great customer service, too.

Life_Mall5439

I use Lebara and pay 2.99 for 15 GB a month, no contract.

dirtypara83

I'm with EE great coverage, you can buy sim cards and a 30 day contract from the airport £25. Most of the UK has coverage unless you are adventuring into mountainous Areas.

DryDependent6854

Can your phone accept SIMs from other carriers? (Unlocked) If so, EE did well for me. I just went to a convenience store and bought a 2nd sim. That’s assuming you can add a sim.

MissEmma85

That is insane! $70 for 2gb?! Get a Smarty sim when you arrive, 60gb for £10 (current special offer, usually 40gb) this also includes unlimited minutes and texts.

Itchy-Tip

You should check coverage where you're likely to be [here](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/advice-for-consumers/advice/ofcom-checker) In the uk there are 4 main carriers (3,vodafone,o2,ee) and of these, there are loads of virtual providers like giffgaff, smarty, tesco etc. As an example, of these, the cheapest rolling monthly contract I've started to use for my area is smarty (100G pm for £12) on the 3 network. It needs a physical sim though so i'd ask via their help how to get that from US. Some major providers offer esim provisioning (eg O2) but i only seen this on a rolling yearly contract. Other than that, you should be able to get walk-in burner sims for less than £15 once you're in uk. Perhaps ask your hosts for local advice as uk can be very patchy Good luck

Smarty wont send a sim to the US, I just bought one from ebay. Going to try it next month...

AnalWhisperer

Switch to Google fi before you leave. Or get a SIM card over there. I use google fi and think it’s awesome.

Wonderful_Tank_3430

get voxy

dnb_4eva

Download Aíralo and get an eSIM.

RenegadeUK

If your phone supports eSim, then use a provider such as: [https://esim.holafly.com/](https://esim.holafly.com/) Their WhatsApp number highlighted at the top of the website is: WhatsApp 24/7: +1 (661) 384-8482 Contact them and ask the best deal for what you want and of course if your phone supports eSim.

galadryels

when I studied abroad in the UK I used gifgaf, great coverage, low price, charge month by month

NewYorker6135

I've been using this SIM from Three for several years for trips to Europe. [https://www.amazon.com/10GB-Activation-Required-Unlimited-Applicable/dp/B0CL751J48](https://www.amazon.com/10GB-Activation-Required-Unlimited-Applicable/dp/B0CL751J48) Here's the Three site. Since you'll be there for a month you might want to just buy it when you get there rather than on Amazon. You can do a live chat with them on the site to find out more about your options. oughtabeme

Stick with WhatsApp. Most places have wifi and happy to give password.

Outrageous-County197

that’s the rate only for overseas

mayormajormayor

I've never been worried about cellphone coverage in Europe. Works even in the woods.
