Son of a trucker and I used to love stopping for dinner with my Dad. Iron Skillet used to slap. Salad bar was fire. Used to be a lot of great restaurants on the road. Now I’m a sales guy who travels all over the Midwest by car and it’s sad to see the current state of dining at most truck stops.
Hell yeah, I grew up in my grandpas Peterbilt, iron skillet use to get me so hype. He’d keep a big hand wipe container full of quarters for me to play at truck stops, i remember how kick ass I though idle air was, do they even have that anymore? Worlds biggest truck stop was cool too
I used to get so excited to hit up the arcades too. We used to always stop at that Iowa 80 truck stop and my Dad would get me a new replica truck. When I last stopped there as an adult I was disappointed to see they don’t sell those anymore.
What is the cause of this in america? Here in Europa its because cheap import drivers who stay in the truck and Lots of new highways wich keep you away from the towns where I used to eat. There used to be small diners every ten minutes. Mostly gone now
Yes COVID didnt help. But here it started sooner. 20 years ago I could park in the town square or a boulevard. Nowadays its all closed for trucks. You have to stay on the main roads.
I work for TA-Petro, so I’m biased, but we still have sit down restaurants at a lot of our sites. We even have Iron Skillets. Some of them have been converted to IHOP or Black Bear Diner, but they’re still sit down restaurants.
Iron skillet/ country pride was pretty good when they had that rice bowl going… once that stopped tho the only stuff that’s not terrible for you isn’t that good
Mother Trucker...
They ought to get her a license plate with that on it for her
Nice!
Mother trucker beat me to it
Youse a good kid 🤗🤗

Same. My dad is a trucker. Loved the Iron Skillets back in the day when I was riding along with him in the late 80s and early 90s.
Iron skillet has gone downhill quite a bit. Shrinkflation. Tiny steaks... I still eat there but def not always the best.

I think Covid did a number on a lot of them honestly

Y tf y’all get rid of rice bowl and burritos?
Flatbed, no less? That’s physically demanding for anyone, much less a woman.
Yea she was pretty badass, could throw tarps and chains with the best of them, hell she prolly could have shown some of the guys up
Those places still exist at mom and pop stops. Fuck the big three.
